Upgraded from 10.3 to 10.4.6 - How to install X11 without DVD?

I originally bought my system G4 powerbook with 10.2 on it. I have done the upgrades and am now running 10.4.6.
I want to install OpenOffice 2.0.X but I don't own a 10.4 Tiger install DVD.
How do I get X11? Everone says it's on the DVD but that doesn't help someone who has an older system and upgraded to Tiger!

Because the only way to upgrade from Jaguar to Tiger is to buy a Tiger DVD (you cannot download an upgrade) that means you must have obtained an illegal copy of Tiger. The Tiger version of X11 is indeed on the Tiger DVD and is not available as a download from Apple. Therefore, you will need to purchase a Tiger package from Apple.
Assisting someone who has obtained software illegally would be a violation of the Terms of Use of these Discussions. Don't expect any assistance.
The proper solution is to purchase a legitimate copy of Tiger.

I upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.0 using a drop in DVD and now I can't log in...
This was on a G5 imac. I tried booting to the DVD and resetting the password but this did not help.
I did see the 2 user accounts still there when I reset the password so that gives me hope that my data is all there intact.
I need help getting past this login screen PLEASE!
The login name is blank and I've tried everything to get past it.
I heard from a tech that there was a problem when upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5.0 instead of the 10.5.3 or whatever, and it was a known issue when using the 10.5.0 disc to upgrade and he said that there was information on apple's site on what to do when this happens but I have not come accross this info as of yet.
I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me.
    Thanks!!!
    Tim

OK I finally got passed the above problem by just trying to type it in over and over and over and it finally took!
It seems as though I may have typed it wrong or misspelled something but I could swear I put it in the same way everytime!
    NOW...
when I type : passwd username
replacing username with the short name it says
    paddwd: Unknown user name 'username'
someone told me that possibly the home folder is still there and intact but the login may have gotten trashed and that i may need to recreate the user login. Does that sound like a possibility?

  • We are upgrading from 8.3 to 9.2. How can i get the table(record) structure changes between these 2 version

We are upgrading from 8.3 to 9.2. How can i get the table(record) structure changes between these 2 versions. I am not able to find it in Oracle support.

My guess is you want to upgrade HR8.3 to 9.2 - and that is not one jump upgrade. You will need to go HRMS 83 to 90
(PeopleSoft Enterprise HRMS 8.3x to 9.0 Upgrade (Doc ID 747333.1) and then 90 to 92 (PeopleSoft Human Capital Management 9.0 to 9.2 Upgrade Home Page (Doc ID 1536087.1)
Each these MOS pages contains the Demo to Demo Compare Reports that show the data structures changes between the releases.
    Hope it helps.

No, you only need the upgrade package. It will ask for the previous serial and then install the full version.

Hi, I have upgraded from a windows computer to a MAC, how do I change the platform for my CS5, thanks

You don't. Platform swaps only apply to current versions. You need to buy at least the CS6 upgrade and make the switch.

  • Upgraded from a nano to a touch..How do I switch/sync the new touch and get rid of the nano?

Upgraded from a nano to a touch. How to I switch the two on my computer to erase the nano, and use only the touch. I dont want it to think it belongs to someone else. But I dont want to start all over and lose the music. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just sync the media from your iTunes library to the iPod touch.
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.
On the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Syncing your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • I lost my history when upgraded from 3.6 to 4.0. How do I recover?

When I upgraded from Firefox 3.6 latest to Firefox 4 on March 22, my history disappeared. Looking at the places.sqlite file, it looks like it created a new one and renamed the older one .corrupt. The file wasn't corrupt in 3.6 - it worked fine! Even when I restore a backup copy of the file from last week, as soon as I start Firefox 4 it renames the existing file and creates a new one. If I'd known this would happen, I wouldn't have upgraded! Can this be fixed?

Extensions may need updates to work with Firefox. But your passwords, bookmarks, form data will be preserved between the versions.

  • I can't seem to upgrade from iTunes 10.3 to iTunes 10.5 after installing Lion

Does anybody know who to upgrade from iTunes 10.3 to 10.5 after upgrading to Lion.  It's not working for me.  Always stay at 10.3, can't upgrade iPhone to IOS 5.  Help!!

You need to use the combo updater in order to make the jump directly to 10.2.8. If you are using the incremental updater it won't work.
Instead of downloading the updater I suggest you use Software Update to update your computer. In addition to the combo updater you will probably need some additional updates. Software Update will list all the updates you need, download them and install them automatically for you.
Before you do the updates, however, be sure to do the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.0.6 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Do not update the computer until you have verified that the hard drive is OK and your permissions have been repaired.

  • How to install iPhoto an DVD  only from my iLife 09 disk

Following hard drive replacement I now have Snow Leopard. I tried to install iphoto and DVD only from iLife 09 disk but could not find a way to install them only.
The full bundle will use all the free disk space I have which is 4 gbs. Following install of SnowLeopard from new disk iphoto and DVD did not install.

You can do what you want
    BUT
you need a minimum of 10 GB of free space for normal operations so you need to find a way to reduce disk usage - 4 GB is not enough and will cause slow operation and possible damage to systems or data
You seriously need to free up disk space - moving your iPhoto library to an external drive may be the answer -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Should I upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite or go for a new install of Yosemite?

I just asked this, got an answer, but it shows as restricted. I can't access my question, so I'll repost. Dammit!
    Macbook Pro 15.4” Retina, October 2012, 500g, 8g RAM.

In anticipation of the release of Yosemite, I have been ready to back everything up, screenshot all of my apps, print them so I can pick and choose after the install from where I have acquired everything. I am on a business scenario, not a typical home user. I use five external hard drives, so I can get it sussed.

I am a Windows convert, I still Bootcamp Win 7 because of some Sony video software I need to use for business. Upper end Photoshop user. I will be installing Final Cut Pro X as a replacement for the video apps when everything settles. I have researched and see that my BluRay production will take a hit because I will have a learning curve and there seems to be a bug with Final Cut Pro X and BluRay production. I'm sure it will be resolved by the time I am ready to switch. No biggy. I will be cutting the Microsoft cord when that takes place. I'm just giddy over it. Seriously.

What I want to know, and this is a very noob question, is, I want to erase and format my hard drive to accept Yosemite when it hits the release date. I want to go with a clean install rather than an update.

To all of you seasoned and dyed in the wool Apple people, if you were two years into Apple as I am, would you install Yosemite, when it is released, as a stand-alone, fresh install instead an update install? I know it will wipe everything, but I want to build from the ground up as an OS install. Start over, as it sounds.

Do you people think it an imprudent act to wipe everything and start over or a better idea to update with the Yosemite release over/on top of Mavericks?

I know there will be bugs. I dealt with the Mail bug in Mavericks, then they fixed it. I know there will be issues, there always are.

    Does it even matter?

Thanks for your attention and for looking,

    Kelly J.

I had thought the fall release of Yosemite would be a release candidate (baked.) Am I wrong? I know it's hard to know.
Through my years as a Windows user, I always waited at least a year after their OS releases before jumping on them.
There is no good answer anymore. All of the responses you have had in this thread are excellent. But Apple keeps changing the plan. I say wait until the 2nd minor release of Yosemite. The first 10.10.1 will be a bug fix release, probably within 3 weeks. The second will be a security update two weeks later. That is the point where it will probably be safe to install. You'll have a good 8 months of usage before having to worry about upgrading again. Also, this strategy applies to all releases, not just major ones. Apple doesn't do "bug fixes" like you may have been used to in the past. Builds 10.10.1, 10.10.2, etc. will be designed not to break any public interfaces, but that is as far as it goes. Otherwise, Apple is liable to change anything. The old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it" simply doesn't apply anymore. Wait a week or two after each incremental update to see if there are big changes. Since you are a heavy Photoshop user, always check the Adobe forums before updating the OS.

  • Upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 directly to Snow leopard 10.6.3 (dvd)

After reading your advices I 've tried to upgrade my MacBook 2Ghz Intel Core 2 duo directly to Snow leopard 10.6.3 from the DVD. But it did not work ! The install program said it is not possible. Could you tell why and what I have to do ? By the way I can't find no more Snow Leopard in the Apple store ! I need this updated in order to active a new device and need to have the last version of I Tunes. So... Thanks for your help

Hello, BD Aqua many thanks for your prompt reply. It's a gray one. And the message is  "OSX can't 'be installed on this computer " or something like that. The installing program doesn't launch anything but just ask me the language I choice and after ...relaunching and relaunching ... nothing happens. However when I' ve called previously the Apple support they told me to upgrade directly in Snow Leopard. I want to be sure to have the possibility to install it before purchasing it and in which version ?
And do I have to erase my previous disk as somebody recommand it before installing the new OS ?

  • Upgraded from hp f2400 to oficejet 6600/6700 how to use HP solution center with new equipment?

I was using the HP F2400 all-in-one copier.  I just upgraded to the HP OfficeJet 6600/6700 all-in-one.  I want to upgrade the HP Solution Center or install another Solution Center for my new copier.  How can I make this happen.  My operating system is Windows 7.  To me the Solution Center is the best way to find/track all documents, scans, pictures and everything else.  Please help.

If you are done with the f2400, I recommend going to Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard > [your printer model] and uninstalling the software using the uninstaller in that folder.
    Restart your PC.
