Upgraded from Adobe Tech Comm Suite 3.5 to 5 without uninstalling first. How do I uninstall v3.5?
Upgraded from Adobe Tech Comm Suite 3.5 to 5 on Win 7 64-bit computer. V3.5 was not listed in Control Panel so I did not uninstall it first. Now I have duplicates of everything. How do I uninstall v3.5?
I figured out what to do on my own. I used the Tech Comm Suite 3.5 installer to install a component I was not using. Then the uninstaller popped up in Control Panel/Programs and Features and I used that to uninstall the v3.5 components (except Photoshop). Not sure if I should uninstall Tech Comm Suite v5 and reinstall it though. Seems to be working okay for now.

Adobe Tech Comm Suite Classroom in a Book or other books?
Hi everybody,
I noticed on Amazon.ca, Adobe Tech Comm Suite Classroom in a
Book is still listed as "unavailable" which at least would mean
that it is still in the works but not yet published.
Neverthless, on Amazon.com, the book seems to be no longer
listed. Does this mean the book is no longer going to be published,
or that someone at Amazon in the US delisted it until a firm
release date is supplied by Adobe Press? Enquiring minds want to
know!
Does anyone know of any other books related to
FrameMaker8/RoboHelp7 that are in the offing?
PeterThat's a good start, but the documentation that's really
missing/inadequate is how to interface FM and RH in the Tech. Comm.
Suite. What features in FM8 are supported when you transfer to RH7?
Which aren't? Even a list of best practices and the reasons behind
them would help.
What's the work flow? I'm slowly getting it, but I have a
*long* way to go and I'm beginning to be less optimistic that I can
truly single-source.
It would be much easier if I had organized and detailed
written documentation. -
Any idea when Tech Comm Suite will release?
I've got a print and help project starting in November, and
I'd love to start it using FrameMaker and Robohelp 7 from Adobe
Tech Comm Suite. My other option is RoboHelp for Word, of an
unknown vintage. So just when is pretty important to me. Anyone
heard any scuttlebutt? -
Thanks! The official release date is probably known only to a few
select people in Adobe. All we can add is that the release in due
shortly. It is a case of watch this space. I'm sure it can't be far
off. They are already taking pre-orders. -
Upgrading: RH7 separate product or Tech Comms Suite
Hi Everybody,
I'm at a point now where I'm looking to upgrade to RH7. I
also need a copy of Captivate due to some deadlines that have been
set against me. These are the main two products I'm looking at.
What I really want to know is who, on this forum, have upgraded to
RH7 as a separate product and who has delved in to the Tech Comms
Suite? Are there any gotchas?
I already have RH X5, which was an upgrade of an upgrade, and
Framemaker 6.0, which I haven't actually had a reason to use since
I joined the company. However, I was wondering if it's worth
upgrading to the Tech Comms Suite based on the Framemaker 6.0
product. What I can't find on the website is how does this upgrade
work? Would I receive a brand new version of RH7, CP3 and Acrobat3D
and an upgrade version of Framemaker 8?
The offer of all these products in one suite seems too good
to be true. What happens when just one product is upgraded? What
happens if I then decide that I have no use whatsoever for
Framemaker? Are all the products in the Tech Comms Suite full and
proper versions? So many questions... I searched for answers but
couldn't find any other posts relating to this, so if there is a
discussion going on elsewhere then please do point me in that
direction.
Can anyone help me make my mind up? Thanks!

Unless you have some pre-existing experience with Captivate,
you may find it hard to get all the way up to speed on that product
quickly. You may want to look at subscribing to Lynda.com for a
month and taking their on-line course. It's Captivate 2, but I'm
still finding it useful (as a total Captivate newbie).

As with RandiWrite, I upgraded from RoboHelp X5 (alone; I
didn't have any of the other products in the suite though I have
CS3 including Acrobat Pro) to TCS. I called Adobe Support for
confirmation that I was eligible before buying the product, and
they advised that I was. I had no trouble at all installing the
suite.

Essentially you just get a full install package with the
whole TC suite on it. I opted for the download from the Adobe store
rather than the boxed version since it was slightly cheaper and I
was impatient to get it. (Also, they don't deliver to PO Boxes
which is the only way I could get delivery since I'm seldom in one
place long enough for a courier to find me.) I think that the
install procedure checks that you have the existing programs on
there, then away it goes and puts the new ones on as well. It
didn't remove X5 on my computer; I could do that myself without,
I'm pretty sure, any untoward effect on version 7; I just haven't
bothered yet.
I seem to recall that when I upgraded to PhotoShop CS3 I had
CS2 on one of my two computers but not the other. (I think it was
on my notebook but not my desktop.) I was able to install CS3 on
the desktop without having to install CS2 first; as I recall, it
asked me for some kind of identifying code first to verify that I
was already a licenced owner of CS2. (Sorry to be so vague, it was
a while ago now.) My point is that Adobe has its act together (in
my experience) at letting you do upgrades from older packages.
HOWEVER, RoboHelp X5wasn't an Adobe product at the time and doing
the upgrade without having the X5 package installed may be more
problematic. This is academic in your case since it IS installed.

It's true; this isn't Microsoft we're talking about here.

You pay less, but you get less. But that's ONLY if it's ONE
product. Indeed, I found that it would have been more expensive (in
Australia at least, I don't know about the UK) for me to upgrade to
RH7 and buy Captivate than it was to upgrade to TCS. It's not dumb
marketing on Adobe's part, it's actually rather smart. By giving
you that value, it gets you to use more of their products (and lets
face it, while no software is perfect Adobe's is pretty good), and
consequently hooks you in for future versions. I know that RH has
imperfections, but I do love it. Same with Acrobat Pro.
quote:
What happens if I then decide that I have no use whatsoever
for Framemaker?
I don't, but I don't care. I may play with it at some point,
but the short version is that I still got the products that I DID
want (RH7 and Captivate) cheaper than buying them separately and if
anything else wants to come along for the ride I'll find it a room
on my hard disk.
quote:
Are all the products in the Tech Comms Suite full and proper
versions?
They are indeed. You can take them out in public or to a nice
restaurant and have no fear that they'll cause you embarrassment.

Tech Comms Suite (upgrade version)
Hi,
I am now the proud owner of the Tech Comms Suite upgrade
version 1.3. Reading the yellow slip of paper accompanying the box,
it says 'Adobe recommends that you uninstall any previous version
of Technical Communications Suite or any component of the Technical
Communications Suite... before you install Technical Communications
Suite 1.3'.
My dumb question is: if you uninstall FM or RH software, how
does the software know which is your upgrade product?
I was planning on installing the Tech Comms Suite on another
computer temporarily, until I get used to the new UI, and thought I
would have to uninstall FM (seeing as I want to continue using RH
on my own pooty) and install it onto the same PC where I want to
install TCS. However, now it seems I don't have to. Is it just a
case of entering a qualifying serial number somewhere in the
upgrade installation? Has anyone here upgraded to TCS and can shed
some light please?
Many Thanks,
LizThanks Peter and Vivek for your replies. When I bought it
from the Adobe website I chose the upgrade from one product option
(not upgrading from TCS v1.0) and I did indeed I receive two disks.
The install trundles through. At the end it asks if I want to
open an application. Of course I do because I want to play, so I
click on the relevant radio button that selects an application to
open, then click on OK, or Next, or whatever.(sorry cannot remember
actual name of button!).
I then get the screen where you choose to open the trial
version or enter the serial number. So I select the relevant radio
button and enter the serial number from the TCS box. I then click
OK, or Next, or whatever and then I get a popup error saying that
my serial number is not valid.
Technical Support have confirmed that it is a valid serial
number. I searched the forum and found there may be conflict with
Acrobat, but the computer where I installed the TCS did not have
Acrobat installed prior to installing TCS. I get the error message
when I enter the serial number for RH, FM and CP. I can open
Acrobat (as that didn't ask for the serial number) but I haven't
tried opening or creating a PDF file.
In other words, I don't get as far as entering the qualifying
serial number.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to try please? Has anyone
else experienced this when they upgraded from one product (not TCS
v1.0)?
Thanks for your help

I already have an Adobe account that is associated with my work email. We had purchased the Tech Comm Suite for Captivate and the eLearning Suite. Adobe is not offering Captivate 8 as part of an eLearning Suite, but I DO need to upgrade. I also would like to keep the other apps in both suites up to date, so we want to purchase a Creative Cloud subscription. I don't have a clue where the serial numbers are kept, and as far as I know, the serial numbers don't show up anywhere in the app anymore. Additionally, I cannot enter the billing information for my subscription because we have to make the purchase on a p-card owned by our administrative assistant. So what I want to know is how to purchase a subscription for both Creative Cloud and Captivate that is associated with my email account without giving my login information to the administrative assistant?
Is it possible to purchase a team subscription and add my email address to the team? I have to give explicit instructions to our admin.

Looking to upgrade from Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium to the latest.
I am looking to upgrade from Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium to the latest. We are running on an isolated network without access to the Internet. Looking for advise on how best to proceed.
As far as upgrading goes, you will not have that option for CS3 as it is not in the upgrade path for CS6. You will have to purchase the full version of CS6. I don't know if buying the disk is still an option, but if you have to you can download the installation file(s) and copy to a removeable media and install using that. In order to activate it you will have to perform an offline activation.
Here are some links that might be of help...

Does the Tech Comm Suite work differently/better then adding separate components?
I use CS4 everyday which includes Illustrator, Photoshop extended, InDesign, Dreamwearver and Flash. I now have a need to convert FrameMaker files into HTML and to create Help files using RoboHelp and Captivate. Do I need to get the Tech Comm Suite 2 or can I just add the RoboHelp and Captivate components and upgrade my FrameMaker to version 9? What works better and what is more cost efffective?
Thanks Jeff for the information about importing not linking outside of the suite. I do want to link to the FrameMaker source file.
I will have to check with Sales at Abode to see about the intregration with or upgrade price available for adding Tech Comm suite. -

thanks,
Kapil VermaA key challenge that Adobe is facing with FM and TCS, and that the survey did not really focus on, is platform strategy (other than cloud-based).
FM runs only on MS Windows today. MS has made a possibly fatal mess of Windows (and the x86 PC market) with Window 8. The nearly $1B write-off for Surface slabs, and the sad story on the Surface app catalog, strongly suggests that Windows has zero future on ARM.
For customers who insist on running an app locally, FM/TCS needs another place to run. The obvious candidates are MacOS, where FM used to run, and Linux, where FM briefly ran. Unix, where FM sort of still runs (FM8 is still available for Solaris) is probably out of the picture.
Mac might be the leading choice, as CS runs native there today.
A return to Linux probably would imply that whatever is ported also runs on Android. Adobe has their toes in that water, with Photoshop Express, but I'm not sure that Android is fully featured enough to be used as a desktop content creation platform.
But the real question is: what do the paying customers want?
The survey asked one incomplete question on that.
Whatever the platform, the whole of TCS needs to run on it, plus Photoshop. -
Hi I am just now downloading Creative Clouds :-) as an upgrade from an old Creative Suite 5.5. Before that I hade a Creative suite 3 etc. Is it necessary that I keep all these old programs etc on my computer to make Creative Clouds work or is it better that I uninstall them? Kind regards, AnnaReet
It is not necessary to retain the older installations. YOu might want to consider if you will have any need for them in terms of working with older files, but other than that you can probably uninstall them without missing them.

I am attempting to upgrade from Adobe Premier Elements 9 to Adobe Premier Elements 13 after using 13's trial version for a few weeks. I am unable to find where and how to do this without losing the project I have been working on. Please help?
Vere Clarke
Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and Premiere Elements 13 are standalone products.
So, you can have both on the same computer, but only open one for your work.
The classical recommendation is to finish a project in the version in which it was created since there
is no guarantee that a project from an earlier version will open in the later version. Probably will, but
no guarantees. And, when you do explore this, do it from a copy of the earlier version project. Once you
take the earlier version project into a later version one, you cannot go back to edit the later version edited
project in the earlier version program.
If you have both versions (9 and 13) on the same computer and you have not moved, deleted, renamed any of the version 9's files/folders,
right click the saved closed Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project file, select Open With, and then Adobe Premiere Elements 13.
(Your 9.0/9.0.1 saved closed project file should be found in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/9.0.)
Please review and consider. If any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Thank you.

Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion 23?
You may be able to do some work arounds with AA6 on 32-bit systems. You are probably out of luck with AA6 on 64-bit systems. (I got AA5 working with some workarounds on Win7, 32-bit) As for the upgrade, you can check at the Adobe store for the upgrade compatibilities. I think it is now at AA9, maybe AA8 for an upgrade. So, you are kind of stuck with buying a new version (no upgrade).
