Upgraded from Tiger - Lost all Calendars

I upgraded (Archive and Install) from Tiger where I had about 10 calendars. None of them appear in the new Leopard iCal. This is despite the fact I can see all the data files have been placed in the appropriate Leopard Library folders: Calendars and Application Support > iCal. (None of the iCal files remain in the "Previous Systems" folder that is created when one does an archive and install upgrade.) Though using the Spotlight search method advised by other contributors will work, it's too laborious to do for all my calendars. (The events that do appear for a given calendar are in a different color to what I'd previously used, showing that the preferences were lost - even though no iCal preference files remain in the aforementioned "Previous Systems" folder. There must be an easier way?

Question has been answered. To solve my problem I needed to log out of .Mac through my system preferences. From there, delete all mail accounts from Mail and close out Mail. Go back into system preferences, log into .Mac and check the sync settings. Then do a manual sync to sync everything to my MacBook Pro. This solved my issue because when I originally set up my sync settings after upgrading to Leopard, it never did sync all of my info. This time around it did.

  • Lost emails upgrading from tiger to leopard

I lost emails (although mailbox folders are still there, just empty) after upgrading from tiger to leopard. Please help?!

I followed these instructions the last couple of times this happened to me. It works so well that I've made a text file with these instructions:
I got it to work by deleting all the values in the defaults database associated with Mail and the Junk rules. In my case I did the following:
Remove the Envelope Index file (~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index) from your user account.
    Launch Terminal.
Copy/Paste this list into the Terminal window.
    defaults remove com.apple.mail JunkMailBehaviorHasBeenConfigured
    defaults remove com.apple.mail JunkMailHeaderFlags
    defaults remove com.apple.mail JunkMailInfoPanelHasBeenShown
    defaults remove com.apple.mail JunkViewerAttributes
    defaults remove com.apple.mail LastTimeJunkWasVisited
    defaults remove com.apple.mail NumberOfMessagesMarkedAsJunk
    defaults remove com.apple.mail NumberOfMessagesMarkedAsNotJunk
    defaults remove com.apple.mail UseJunkMailHeaderFlags
Watch the rapid execution of the text commands in the Terminal window.
    Quit Terminal.
    Launch Mail.
Follow the onscreen guides to import your mail and watch the mail database restore itself.
All mailboxes, drafts, etc., should be quickly restored. Mail launches and quits correctly.
You will need to start updating the Junk filter in Leopard from scratch as new junk mail shows up.

  • I have upgraded from tiger to leopard and seem to have lost Photoshop 7.0. how do i retrieve it?

I have upgraded from tiger to leopard and seem to have lost Photoshop 7.0. Is it possible to retrieve it

Photoshop 7.0 only goes as far as 10.4.11
If you have a drive, you can put 10.4.11 on it or a partition of it
    and save some money.
I am not convinced the upgrade is worth it,
but I just do simple things.

  • Upgraded from Tiger - Now no mail

Please bear with me while I type this. I want to be sure everyone understands what happened and I need to be sure I can explain this right.
I just recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. I did not backup any info from my hard drive prior to upgrading. Yes, I know, I'm an idiot. I lost power to my computer during the upgrade and it corrupted my hard drive. I did have a Windows partition so I was able to install Leopard on there and extract all my important stuff from the Mac partition. To make a long story shorter, I have all my photos, movies, music and documents. I formatted my hard drive to have only one partition and installed Leopard. Everything is working great and I love it. The only problem that I'm having now is that I have tried to get my mail many times but I can't get Apple Mail to connect. My internet works fine and I'm able to access my mail through the web on .Mac.
Could one of the reasons why this is happening is because I copied the Mail and Mail Downloads directory from my Library from Tiger and put it into the same spot on Leopard?
Or do I need to just delete all the info from Mail and start from scratch since all of my mail is still on .Mac servers? I'm sorry if this is confusing, I just want to get my mail back instead of having to go through the web browser to get to it.
Thanks to all that can help.

  • What will I lose when upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

I am relatively new to Macs and am concerned about what I will lost if we upgrade out Mac mini server from Tiger to leopard. There was a time when new Apple computers were not backward compatible, certainly Microsoft upgrades always have issues. Thus I have fear for performing an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard on our server without knowing what we are in for.
I looked at some of the discussion threads here and elsewhere. I see a lot of minutiae but none that would be an issue to me. Then again, no one seems to put out a publication (including/especially Apple) that say here are the possible drawbacks.
I guess our biggest concern in our existing data. Are there any types of document formats that we will no longer be able to read?
I assume Office, Photoshop and those types of programs will be fine as surely the publishers have issues the necessary updates. Is that correct?
Are there any mainstream issues that could come as a surprise to us and present serious problems?
    Thank you,
    Robert

I guess our biggest concern in our existing data. Are there any types of >>document formats that we will no longer be able to read?
Only if the applications which open those documents run in Classic.
And only if you do not have another program that can open them.
for example, Filemaker...I used FM5 (classic app)...OSX versions of FM were both overkill for my needs and cost prohibitive, so I never upgraded.
Lost access to all those files.
Fortunately, I was able to download a demo of FM9, open the files, export them to XLS format, then open them in either excel or numbers. Of course, lost the database functionality, embedded images were no longer there, and calculated fields failed, but at least the data fields converted.
The issue in photoshop, from what I understand, is saving to a network drive.
    (possible file corruption)
Save locally, then copy to a network drive, and pshop should work fine.
Are you already on Intel, or are you on PPC? you may find some other quirks if you are also upgrading to an Intel based system.
Things like QT and browser plugins that are not Universal binaries.

  • Upgraded from TIGER to SNOW LEOPARD

    Hello,
How can I uprade from TIGER to SNOW LEOPARD? Do I simply use the upgrade snow leopard to do so? Will that create any instability or issues?
    thank you very much.
    Alex

Yes, you can upgrade from Tiger to Snow by purchasing the SL DVD. Doing so would only create stability problems if you already have problems, so you should be sure you have a clean system before upgrading. See the following:
    System Upgrade and Installation Procedure
    Basic Caveats
    1. Disconnect all peripherals except the original mouse and keyboard.
    2. Quit all applications if this is not an installation from an Installer DVD.
    3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation you may have to erase the hard drive and reinstall from scratch.
    4. Once the installation begins do not use the computer in any way except to reply to dialog prompts or to restart when the installation is completed. This is especially critical during the installation stage known as "Optimizing the System."
    System Update Procedure
    A. Repair hard drive and permissions.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.2 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.
    B. Clone your existing system to an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Drag the startup or source volume to the Source entry field.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Check the box to Erase Destination. Skip this step if you've already formatted the drive.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    C. Decide upon an installation option (This does not apply to Snow Leopard.)
You have three upgrade options. If you use the Upgrade installation option be sure you have repaired the hard drive and permissions first and made your backup. If you choose the Archive and Install option then you only need to repair the hard drive.
Neither of the above options will erase the disk. Some of your software may not work with a new system. You will need to upgrade those programs. It would be best to do the upgrades to your software before upgrading to the new system version.
Personally, I would erase the hard drive and do a fresh install of Snow Leopard then use Migration Assistant to migrate your old Home folder from the backup. This may take some extra time but is less likely to have problems that may be the result of an upgrade installation.

  • Upgraded from tiger to snow leopard, can I go onto lion?

I have recently upgraded from tiger (I think) to snow leopard, can I go onto lion?
I have a imac 17" 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, I think I bought it in 2007, I don't use it for much but a bit of browsing storing photos and music and maybe a couple of documents.
I have been told by some that if I go to Lion it would be a risk and slow the computer down, so just wondering what you all think.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rossi

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.0-17-inch-spe cs.html
According to unofficial sources, you can upgrade to 4GB RAM. I've done the same in my late 2006 iMac 20" which is offically upgradable to 3GB, but I stuck 2 x 2gb modules in anyway (mainly as I had one spare from my MPB). It's dead easy to do, I'm in the UK and bought Crucial memory which I've always trusted.
I believe the Mac will still only use about 3.3GB of the available 4GB RAM, however some people have reported better performance as both modules are the same size and this helps.
Probably worth getting 2 x 2GB given it's not that expensive. You can always keep your old RAM incase anything goes wrong.
I'd do this regardless of upgrading to Lion or not, the extra RAM will help.
BTW, regardless of a lot of the negativity, I love Lion, it speeded up my other 2007 MBP like it was a new machine. The iMac seems okay, although that is showing a few signs of some graphics glitches, but I don't think this is anything to do with Lion, more about overheating.
Best thing to do, is to clone your existing system (using Disk Utility or SuperDuper or CopyCloner) so that you can boot off that or restore it at anytime without losing anything of your setup.
Then clean install Lion (there are instructions about on how to do this, and create a bootable USB key). You can then migrate back your user settings from your clone to the Lion install. Or just upgrade Snow Leopard. Depends on whether you believe in fresh installing everything.
If you don't like Lion, or it's slow or whatever, you can always restore your snow leopard system from the clone.

  • Upgrading from Tiger to SL or ML

    Hello all!
I have an old aluminium body MBP 17" Intel Core2Duo 2.4 GHZ with 2 GB of Ram.
It has a 160 GB drive and is a 3,1 model bought around august / sept. 2007.
Call me slow but I haven't upgraded my OS since I bought the machine. I'm still running Tiger (10.4.11) and since I'm going to upgrade my RAM to 4 GB and
harddrive (to 540 GB), I figured I'm also going to upgrade my OS.
As you can imagine having a machine this old, there's a lot of stuff on it I'd hate to loose. So I've
deviced a plan for upgrading my MBP.
    It goes like this:
    1. Back up my internal drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.
    2. Install Snow Leopard on an external drive.
    3. Replace the internal drive with the external one.
    4. Put the old internal drive into the harddrive dock.
    5. Migrate all my files from the now external drive to the new internal one.
Question is, will this work? Is it a fail proof way of doing it?
(The reason I'm upgrading to SL and not Lion is because Mountain Lion is coming out and I'm just going to install that on top of SL instead of going via Lion).
    Thanks!

    Hi!
Just wanted to say I've successfully upgraded from Tiger (10.4.11) to Mountain Lion (10.8) without problems!
So here's what I did: first I backed up my entire system using Carbon Copy. I did this on two different external drives (you can never be safe enough!). Made sure both booted nicely. Then I downloaded Mountain Lion and installed it onto an external drive 2.5" drive. I booted up to ML and it worked OK. I then swapped the external 2.5" drive with ML on it for my old Tiger 2.5" drive (this took some time but Ifixit had a great "how-to" guide.
Now I'm in the process of copying important files, documents and music while also having to re-download a lot of my old software (since none of them work properly in Mountain Lion). Oh well, that's the price to pay for not upgrading sooner!
Btw - maybe it's the wrong thread to ask in but I had a lot of stickies in Tiger (which I used everyday almost) - and I tried to copy the stickiesdatabase file over to ML but none of my Stickies show up?? I know ML wants us to use Notes instead of Stickies but since Stickies DO come with Mountain Lion, I wonder why I can't find the Stickiesdatabase file in Mountain Lion??
P.S - Have no idea why my username on this forum changed. Oh well.

  • Do I need to backup my files when upgrading from tiger to leopard?

Not sure if I need to backup all my files before upgrading from Tiger to Leopard (to use a Mac Box Set), have bought a Seagate 1TB FreeAgent GoFlex Home hard drive to back up on. Was told I wouldn't need a WiFi router but have now discovered I would need a dual Ethernet port to be connected to the internet and the hard drive which my Mac mini only has access for one, either the internet or the hard drive. So I ask do I really need to back up before upgrading? or can you get dual Ethernet ports?

Only if your data has any value to you.
If everything works perfectly, you should lose nothing.
If anything goes wrong, it is possible to lose data.
Personally I don't want to trust my data to everything working perfectly so I back it up.
As to the question of dual ethernet ports, you don't need them actually. If you create a LAN with a router then the multiple ports on your router will allow you to connect to both the internet and disk at once.

  • Will an upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard make me loose programs?

I have an old 2007 Macbook pro and I need to upgrade from Tiger OS 10.4.11 to either leopard of Snow leopard because my charger broke and the new charger does not work probably in the older laptops unless you firmare update (which I cannot do as my OS is less than 10.5)
My question is: Will upgrading wipe all the files and programs from my laptop? I have programs that I no longer have the discs, to install them with, for so if they get wiped I will be unable to get them back and they are programs I need on a daily basis. I was just wondering what upgrading from tiger to leopard will actually involve? Will I loose all files/programs so it would be like starting from scratch with a new computer? Or would it not change these things?

Buy an external drive (or two).
Clone your system before you begin.
Repair the drive while at it, Apple First Aid and another 3rd party program.
Make sure you can boot from your backup clone.
Apple Restore is part of Disk Utilty or there is SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Me, I would take the above precautions. Then I would format your drive with SL DVD, and perform and clean install. Do all the updates. Then use Setup or Migration Assistant.
Look for threads, there seems to be 4-5 a week at least on Migrating, going from 10.4 or from PPC to 10.6.
That is the safest. In theory, and YMMV, you could try upgrade in place, but not without backups, and repairing your drive with SL DVD first.

  • Upgrading from tiger (10.4.11) to snow leopard 10.6

Is buying the box set a MUST to upgrade from tiger to snow leopard?? I just need the update to run a piece of hardware. I don't WANT all that other stuff.

It does not make a difference where the family pack came from when the owner only has one computer, and they are part of my family.
First you said you had a friend who had the "multi family pack," now you imply this is a family member, so which is it?
Regardless, what matters is that only persons located in *the same household* can use the same Family Pack license. This is clearly stated at the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Family Pack - Apple Store (U.S.) web page & in the Snow Leopard EULA pdf. From the store page:
    *About the Family Pack*
The Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that household. By “household” we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home, or condominium, including students who are primary residents of that household but reside at a separate on-campus location. This license does not extend to business or commercial users.
And this information now has also has some form the gentlemen that I am now dealing with to know repair the computer and put is back to a working order.
I'm sorry but I don't know what this sentence means or how it is supposed to relate to this topic. No Apple tech is going to tell you that you must upgrade to a different version of Snow Leopard to fix anything if you have a legitimately licensed retail copy of that OS -- there is just the one version suitable for those upgrading from Tiger, sold with one of two licenses.

  • Upgraded from Tiger and Mail is unresponsive

    Hey gang-
Well tonight finally made the plunge and upgraded from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.6. Naturally one of the first apps I tried was the new Mail 3.5. Unfortunately it is absolutely dead. Clicking Get Mail does nothing, and none of the email in my .Mac Inbox displays. Neither does any of my email saved locally, even though all the folders from the Tiger version of Mail are there. Clicking on each looks as though they are empty.
I have good internet connectivity, as Safari works fine. It appears that all my Mail account data transferred correctly- all my account server data is there.
FWIW, when I look at Activity in Mail, it shows two activities- both called "Gathering Children from disk for local account".
Also of interest- the only way to quit Mail is with Force Quit.
Gaccch this is a bad way to start with Leopard! Any ideas how to get Mail working?
    Thanks!
    Dave

I am assuming you upgraded from Tiger to Leopard? What type of installation did you use?
    My suggestion would be to
1.) go to your home folder and MOVE the mailboxes to the desktop -
    • Home>Library>Mail
2.) Move "Mail" Folder to desktop
    3.) Reopen Mail.app
4.) Setup account settings with no existing mailboxes
    5.) Wait
    • Allow mailboxes to download or set up any existing mail from mail servers
6.) Take ALL accounts OFFLINE after mail is downloaded from servers - disable network activity before importing old mailboxes
    7.) Import OLD Mailboxes
    • File>Import Mailboxes...
    • Import data from "mac os x mailboxes" OR "mbox files"
    8.) Wait
    • It should be a few moments to load these depending on how much existing mail you have.
9.) If you have duplicates I highly reccomend using these apple scripts from aamann to resolve any additional issues:
    Apple Scripts:
    Add Addresses (Mail)
    * Add addresses found in the selected messages (in the header fields "From", "To", "Cc", "Bcc", and "Reply-To") to the Address Book. This is much more flexible than the "Add Sender to Address Book" available in Mail and provides a convenient way for creating mailing lists.
    Archive Messages (Mail)
    * Move messages from the selected mailbox(es) to an archive mailbox or export them to standard mbox, plain or rich text files for backup purposes or import into other applications. You can select to move all messages or only messages sent within or certain period as well filter messages based on their read and flagged status.
    Change SMTP Server (Mail)
    * Switch between different already defined SMTP servers or define a new one. This is especially useful if you are using your computer in more than one location and have to switch servers for several accounts at once.
    Create Rule (Mail)
    * Create a new rule based on the first of the selected messages. This saves you the trouble of copy/pasting address or other info between the message and the rule window and provides a much quicker way for setting up a rule with multiple criteria/actions.
    Remove Duplicates (Mail)
    * Locate all duplicate messages found in the selected mailbox(es) and move them to a separate mailbox for easy removal (duplicate matching is based on the unique message header "Message-Id").
    Schedule Delivery (Mail)
    * Allows you to send individual messages at predefined times (this script uses iCal for scheduling message delivery).
    Send all Drafts (Mail)
    * Immediately send all messages in the "Drafts" folders for all accounts. This saves you from having to open each draft in order to send it.
    Open Mailbox, Open Message (Mail)
    * Two small faceless scripts which will open mailboxes with new messages or the new messages themselves when run as a rule action.
    Filter Sent Messages (Mail)
    * Another faceless scripts which will apply your rules to the messages in the "Sent" mailbox.
    Export Addresses (Address Book)
    * Export addresses from the Address Book into tab-delimited text files. You can select which groups and which fields you want to export.
    Search Addresses (Address Book)
    * Find all addresses inside the Address Book matching one or more criteria. As opposed to the "Search" function built into the Address Book, this lets you search in any field as well as for empty and non-empty fields (Note: due to a bug in the Address Book's AppleScript implementation, "First Name" will always return a non-empty value for system versions of at least up to 10.3.2 - I have reported this bug to Apple and hope that they fix it with the next system update).
    * As an example, you might use this script to search for all phone numbers with a certain area code in order to update your contacts after an area code change.
    Good Luck,
    Hope this helps!
    Samantha S.

  • How can I upgrade from Tiger to Leopard

Hello all, hope you can help me.
I´m running Tiger Last Vers on a white MacBook with 1.83 GHz, 55GB Hd and 2 GB RAM.
The thing is that the iPhone 3gs is running quite well (not last version updated, but at least, it runs) and I recently got an iPhone 4, that is too new for my Tiger.
Thus, needs an upgrade, but the Apple Store only provides  the Snow Leopard.
    So:
.- Can I upgrade the Tiger to the SnowLeopard directly, buying the OS from the Apple Store?
.- Do I need first to upgrade Tiger to Leopard? If so, how do I do that?
I know the very best option is buying a new Mac, but currently for me it doesn´t make any sense as I only want it to sync my devices...
    So, any idea?
It´s been almost 10 days since I got my iPhone 4, and I cannot even start it!
    Much appreciated
    Regards
