  • ITunes doesnt work with my iPod!!! Help please!

ok...i have tried to plug my iPod into my computer lately, and iTunes doesnt recongnize that my iPod is plugged in!!! i have pretty much de-bugged the problem...its not any of my USB ports b/c other hardware (digital camera etc...) work in them...and its not the computer...but it could possibly be iTunes. if i delete and re-install my iTunes software do i loose all my songs? and w/out loosing all my songs etc is there anything i can do to fix this?
i have also tried resetting my iPod multiple times, but that doesnt work so...the only other thing i can think that could have happened is: i got an iHome a few months ago, and ever since that i have had the problem...so that could have messed something up...can u help?

Does the text on your iPod show up grey in iTunes? Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Upgraded itunes not working

ever since I upgraded itunes about a week or two ago, I can't seem to play any of the content that I have been trying to watch. I've been downloading tv programs from the history channel and after the download is complete I try to play the tv show and It tells me I have to authorize the computer. OK fine I type in my uname and pword, then it accesses the itunes store and says that my computer is already authorized. So I click on the tv show again to try to watch and I go through the same thing: computer not authorized, uname and pword, computer already authorized. I have to restart the program several times, and then something happens (I'm not sure exactly what yet) and it plays. It takes about five minutes of messing around to finally watch a show. I'm in awe, never once have I had even an ioda of a problem with itunes, now it takes five minutes of fiddling before I watch a simple tv show.

Anyone still struggling with this, try the following:
Quit iTunes, find your user preferences folder and delete every file with a name beginning com.apple.iTunes. There may be up to about 6 of them. Restart.
If you can't find them, try using Spotlight or whatever the Windows equivalent is to search your hard drive for com.apple.iTunes.
Worked for me after all else (including deleting SC Info) failed.

  • I have a pc and now itunes doesnt work. I have removed and tried deleting itunes and reinstalling and doesnt work

I have a Pc and been running Itunes off of it for years. Now it doesn't work. It doesn't run stating it is missing something. I have deleted the itunes and reinstalled and have run the repair as well and it doesnt work. I am not pleased. I need help!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Itunes doesnt work after upgrade from 6 to 7

i've recently upgraded to itunes 7...and it wont open now..i've installed both quicktime and itunes..and i've checked that quicktime IS 7.1.3 which is compatible...and after i double click the itunes icon..i get a licence agreement..then i click agree..and right after that i get a error msg saying "the itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-200).
anyone experienced this before or hav the solution??
    many thanks
    ken

I have seen that error message before,
What you will want to try is uninstalling Quicktime from Add remove Programs,
Open up My Computer, Browse to C:\Program Files\ and delete the Quicktime folder (There may be more than one)
    Empty Recycle Bin and Restart
After the restart go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html and make sure that you select QuickTime 7.1.3 for Windows 2000/XP and download and install it.
That should take care of it.

  • Does anyone have Skype for iPhone 3gs OS 4.1? I just really wanna have tht app and the skype available on itunes doesnt work on my OS, and I dont wanna upgrade it either because I have read a lot of reviews saying OS 5 makes their iphone slower. :(

Please..I would appreciate your help guys. Thanks!!

In iTunes on your Computer, Download The Skype App normally.
Then on your iPhone, go to the App Store App,  Under Updates->Purchased.
Look for Skype there, and tap the Cloud icon to initiate the download. It will tell you its not compatible, but offer a compatible version for download.
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X

Hi Neo and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Sounds like your Finder preferences are corrupted. It happens ... try this: Locate this file:
com.apple.finder.plist It's located here: /Home/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash and reboot.
Sounds like your Fonts are acting up... do the same thing using the same path:
    Locate this file: com.apple.fontbook.plist /Home/Library/Preferences.
And this file: com.apple.itunes.plist /Home/Library/Preferences. Drag those files to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.
If you still have problems with the Finder and iTunes, create a new user, name it "test", logon to it and see if you can launch a Finder window and iTunes from that user. If you can, then the problem only exists in your /Home folder.
Also, run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions.
    Hope this helps!

  • Itunes doesnt work after system restore

Hey i just downloaded the latest version on itunes a few days ago. I opened the program once and it worked well. Then yesterday i had a problem with my pc and i did a sytem restore. Now my itunes doesn't work. Whenever the try opening it this is the message i get:
The new file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
If any one could help me i'd appreciate it

Unfortunately, when you System Restored over the top of the iTunes install, it may have dropped old program files from iTunes and related components back on the PC. So you may have old iTunes componentry trying to open the new library.
I'd try a complete uninstall and reinstall of iTunes and related componentry on the PC, with a slight modification. The basic technique is given in:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
The modification is that when you are working through the *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled* section, in addition to the program files and folders mentioned there (such as "iTunes" and "BonJour"), you might see program folders called "iTunes (2)" or iTunes (3)" or "BonJour (2)" and so on. Also delete such folders with the names of Apple software with numbers and parentheses.

  • Itunes doesnt work

itunes worked well, then I didnt open itunes for a few days. i wanted listen to my music, itunes opend, but ca. 30 secs after starting itunes my pc crashed. I scaned for virus, nothing bad on the pc. I tried to repair, but same prob. I uninstalled itunes, I reinstalled it, but the problem is just the same. now I dont know what I can do... please help me!!!

Welcome back Heather, This problem you are having can be directly related to the Windows Operating System. Have you tried re-installing the ITunes program? If you have the problem might not be solved unless a computer tech looks at your system. There are so may things that can wrong with conflicts with other software programs. Have you changed anything lately with your computer? added new software. Changed hardware?

  • Itunes wont work now i've upgraded to 7.6

hi i recently upgraded to v7.6 and now my itunes doesnt work, when installing it, or rather when the installation programme tries to uninstall my old version of itunes it says it cannot find the file "itunes.msi", it prompts me to enter an alternate location of this file, but I've searched my harddrive and it isnt on it, if i try to uninstall itunes separately from the install programme the problem persists, I've never had a problem upgrading itunes before, is there a simple way to fix this problem?

It sounds as though you need to use the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility to cleanup your installer files.
Here is a method for removal of iTunes and installer cleanup.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.
