Upgraded my iTunes & now it won't open at all

I just upgraded my iTunes to 9.02 from a really old version, about 10 minutes ago. I am fairly certain I followed all the steps correctly. I now cannot open iTunes at all from the table at the bottom of my desktop. The icon is there but it will not open. I'm afraid of losing EVERYTHING that I had in my old version. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks in advance. I'm not a happy camper.

even if you use firefox, iTunes 9 needs Safari 4 to work properly.
try running software update from the  menu. from that menu you can also choose +about this Mac+ to check which system software you're running.
just update to/put Safari 4 on your machine and see what happens. you can continue to use FF.

Are you trying to transfer the GarageBand projects or the rendered audio files? What version of GarageBand do you have on your iPhone?
I do not think you can share your GarageBand projects from your iPhone to GarageBand on your Mac, unless you have iCloud, afaik, only the audio files.
How did you transfer the song?
To share from an IOS device the Projects or audio files, see:  Share GarageBand songs

  • Mavericks Upgrade Caused Itunes error and won't open now

I was using the current version of itunes 11.2.1 just fine on my macbook pro (2009) until that same day I upgraded to Mavericks. Now Itunes tells me I need to be in 64 bit. I was indeed already operating in 64 bit though prior to upgrade.  I looked at the Get Info on my Itunes as the error message suggested but the 32 bit box option is NOT checked.
I went into my system report and looked at the various apps I have that used either 64 bit or 32 bit options.  Some were indeed using 64 bit, however the Itunes report showed:
    iTunes:
      Version:    11.1.5
      Obtained from:    Apple
      Last Modified:    3/5/14, 7:44 AM
      Kind:    Intel
      64-Bit (Intel):    No
Signed by:    Software Signing, Apple Code Signing Certification Authority, Apple Root CA
      Location:    /Applications/iTunes.app
Get Info String:    iTunes 11.1.5, © 2000–2014 Apple Inc. All rights reserved.
But to show you that the computer is capable of being in the 64bit mode.... here is the report from IMovie:
    iMovie:
      Version:    10.0.3
      Obtained from:    Mac App Store
      Last Modified:    4/13/14, 1:17 PM

And NO.... I don't use Time Machine (my bad... but too late now....)

hi there, ive been getting the same problem and ive tried everything in the links supplied, i have even downloaded quicktime seperately and the downloaded itune, if my windows installer open itunes then it will work but you keep have to uninstall, download and re-install, very, very inconsiderate, i have also created a post but no replies yet, apple support on phone are useless, i think it is itunes conflicting with quicktime but as you downlod both versions together, what can you do, i wouldnt mind if they conflicted wiv roxio of nero but its their own stupid programs that are doing it, i am very anoyed, tryed to work this out for 6 days now, anyway i hope you have more luck than i have had

  • After upgrading to itunes 10 store won't open

itunes ran great, have two ipods and 1 ipad2 syncing easily.
upgraded to itunes 10.5, and now itunes store won't open, and ipad won't sync.
did the new upgrade today, hoping that would fix it, but no joy.
    please help. very frustrating.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I had the same issue yesterday after this installation - upgrade over FCE 3.0.1 .
FCE 3.5 simply won't open, but livetype and soundtrack were okay.
So I've followed Apple"s support link to remove JUST the newly installed FCE 3.5 (not livetype and Soundtrack nor media associated to those 2 applications) :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182
and after a installation of FCE 3.5 only, everything work now perfectly.
So I think it's a better way to uninstall prior version of FCE before installing 3.5 (the installation way, not upgrade way).
Make sure to have your original serial number (not the previous upgrade one). For me, the upgrade serial number of my 3.0 copy did not worked, I had to use the original full package number of my 2.0.1 version).
Good luck to anyone who bought the 3.5 upgarde version.

  • My itunes kept saying it needed to update.  So I tried it and then it wouldn't update, so I force quit it.  now it won't open at all :(?

my itunes kept saying it needed to update.  I tried it and then it wouldn't stop trying to update.  So I force quit it.  Now I can't open itunes at all.  I tried option/command and safe mode, it won't open at all

Are you using a very old version of OS X?  Are you using a very old computer?

  • Updated itunes now it won't open on my computer

I tried to update itunes so I could sync some music I bought on my computer to my phone, because my phone wasn't letting me download it directly. Now iTunes won't open. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it twice, but each time it will not open. Also, when I'm installing it, it tells me I have iTunes currently running, which I don't.

I had this and managed to fix it:
    Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Open the Terminal
    Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
    Re-install iTunes

  • Upgraded I tunes now it won't open

I upgraded my I tunes to 7.7 and now I cannot open my Itunes at all. It acts like it wants to open but then doesn't.... Help, any suggestions, very frustrating.

I am so glad that I'm not the only one with this problem! My itunes also will not open AT ALL after the 7.7 update. I wish I'd never updated in the first place, it was fine before! Does anyone know how to email apple concerning this problem? I want to know if they are aware and if they're trying to do something about it. It seems that you can only email them with problems concerning itunes store not itunes itself. I don't know whether or not to just wait for another update/solution to fix this from apple or continue to struggle trying to fix it myself!?

  • HT6001 updated iTunes on intel iMac and now it won't open at all

I'm using a 2007 intel imac 20" (2ghz intel core 2 duo) and itunes just updated automatically (to 11.1.4). Now it will not open, I just get an error message "iTunes quit unexpectedly" before it even opens. There seems to be no way to uninstall itunes on OS X 10.9.1. I have restarted to no avail. Any ideas? (no, time machine is not setup)
    Thanks!

please, any help at all? I'm about to throw this imac out a window and never by another apple product again.

  • BB upgrade, Torch rebooted, now BBM won't open. Any suggestions?

My BBM won't open. I am guessing it has to do with the BB software upgrade which I downloaded. Reboot took place that night. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • I upgraded Safari, and now it won't work at all.

I have 10.3.9 and upgraded to Safari 4, which I found out too late is not compatible. It used to be you couldn't even install software that wasn't. Anyway, after I went through the whole process, I clicked to start up Safari, and it won't open. It acts like it will, but it doesn't. Now, I can't figure out how to download old Safari. I did go through all the suggestions on here about getting rid of history and things like that. Any other suggestions?

    HI,
Safari version 4 requires that your Mac OS X is running Tiger 10.4.11
Safari 4 for Mac OS X requires Mac OS X Leopard® version 10.5.6 and Security Update 2009-001 or Mac OS X Tiger® version 10.4.11, a minimum 256MB of memory, and is designed to run on any Intel-based Mac or a Mac with a PowerPC G5, G4 or G3 processor and built-in FireWire®. Safari 4 for Windows requires Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista, a minimum 256MB of memory and a system with at least a 500 MHz Intel Pentium processor. Full system requirements and more information on Safari 4 can be found at www.apple.com/safari.
    From here... http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/02/24safari.html
*"Now, I can't figure out how to download old Safari"*
Insert your original Mac install disk and reinstall the Safari application from the Optional Installs package.
Always make sure the hard drive has sufficient space available.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • I just updated to latest Firefox version and now it won't open at all. I even tried to go back to the previous version using Time Machine on my Mac and FF just won't open.

Firefox won't open after downloading latest version this morning.

    Hi, JEvansIII.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try resetting your System Management Controller or SMC then launch iTunes after processing these steps.  If the issue persists, try downloading a fresh copy of iTunes by accessing the second link below.
