UPGRADED MY TIMECAPSULE

Hi, Ive recently sold my 500GB TimeCapsule to a 1TB TimeCapsule & i obviously have to wipe my 500GB TC for the person who has bought it but I am really confused if I wipe it,where or how can i save all my 500GB Backups too? as i am giving my TC away tomorrow but wont have my 1TB TC delivered until wednesday.
A friend said ,all I have to do is "go to my Finder" then click on my TC ,then drag the file (the little white piece of paper with a hardrive icon inside it,called my TCsparsebudle in the backups folder to my desktop but I only have a 120GB internal hardrive on my Macbook & my backups on my TC are 298GB used out of 500GB, so I cant think how to do this? Ive googled & searched this forum but cannot find any information how i can sort this out.
If anyone can help me out I will be so grateful as I am really stuck as what to do as I do not wanna lose my backups,I had a problem with the 1st 500GB TC I bought,Apple replaced it for me as for some strange reason it only had 145gigs backedup & I had a msg saying my TC was full???? then it completely deleted my entire backups & I lost over a years worth of really important data & photos ,the lot, I was gutted,so Apple replaced it for a new 500GB which has been fine for 18 months BUT I don't ever wanna lose my backups again.
Please help,many thanks

Thankyou for your reply , my friend is going to lend me his portable 500GB portable hardrive, which has not been used yet & mac compatible ,BUT, can you guide me as to how i copy?
Do i copy the folder with the sparseBundle file in it OR do i copy just the white little piece of paper with the hardrive icon on it &
I would just copy the "sparsebundle" file.
Do i drag & drop it onto the portable hardrive or do I open it & right click to copy it
Just drag the "sparsebundle" file from the Time Capsule's volume to the volume icon of the external drive.
THEN .How do I get it back onto the new 1TB TimeCapsule
Mount the "Data" volume of the new Time Capsule and the external drive. Open the external drive. You should see the "sparsebundle" file in the external drive window. Drag the "sparsebundle" file from the external drive window onto the icon for the "Data" volume.

  • Upgraded to TimeCapsule and now issues with AirPrint from iPhone and iPad

Okay.  I bought a HP 210a air print printer.  It was working great with my Linksys router and my iPad and iPhone worked with it perfectly.  Since that time I have recently bought a new new 2TB Time Capsule and just recently set it up.  The old router is no longer hooked up.  Since switching over to the new router, nothing prints from the iPhone or iPad.  So here are the details and I am hoping I am just missing a step:
    1.  I think it is important to point this part out.  After setting up the new router, and before discovering any of this, I turned on the HP printer.  Upon doing so, the printer informed me a software update was available from HP so I downloaded it and it appeared everything was fine.
    2.  After the update, I tried printing and nothing.  Duh, the printer was still looking for the old router.  I ran the built in HP wireless setup wizard on the printer and it pointed to the new router fine.  I tested the connection using the test feature on the printer, and it printed a report that all was fine and that it was now pointed at the Time Capsule, great signal, etc...
    3.  I went to my iPhone and iPad, made sure they were pointed at the same network as the printer, and once again the printer appeared on each device as an AirPrint printer.  Great I thought, so printed a  test a page from each device.  Both pages printed.  Now here is where it gets weird.
    4.  I tried to print a second document from the iPad and iPhone, nothing.  I tried a picture.  Nothing.  It still shows eveything setup correctly, the HP shows as the AirPrint printer and connected, but no matter what I do, it nothing is printing from either device.  I've tried resetting my network settings on the iPhone and iPad and pointing to the network again, re-running the HP setup Wizard on the printer.  They all show that everything is fine.  The iPhone and iPad connect to the network fine, both show the printer when I go to print.  However, after I hit the "print" button on either device, it shows like the document is being sent but NOTHING happens on the HP.  It is very frustrating.
The WiFi is working fine, I can surf, email, etc... so the router is working properly.  So what am I missing?  Could the HP update somehow have caused the problem?  I have to believe that between the update and the new router that somewhere I am missing a step.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

If that doesn't work, try power cycling your router, printer, and your iPad/iPhone in that order. To do this, follow these steps:
Unplug the router and printer from the power and shut off the i-devices. Let them sit for about 30 seconds and then plug just the router in.
Once the router is completely back online (usually takes about 30-60 seconds) plug the printer in. Wait until it is back on its home screen.
    Turn the i-devices on.
    Try to print again.
Let me know if this helps!
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
Although I work for HP, my posts and replies are my own opinion and not those of HP.

  • IChat always gets stuck with my MacBook air

    Hi,
I switched from a MacMini G4 (leopard 10.5.3) to a MacBook Air 1.6ghz. Also I upgraded to 1 TB TimeCapsule. But when I try to do iChat video lately, i see after a minute a lots of frame drops and the the video becomes very slow and one minute more my machine start to beach ball and turns useless. After I wait for like 5 minutes, only option I have is then to reboot the machine. This is happening now a lot lately.
I'm currently using the Wireless connection
In the same room I have a MacPro and that one is also connected to the 1TB TimeCapsule, that one works flawlessly.
I also tried to use Skype instead of iChat and I see similar issues although not so bad that it crashes my machine. It just starts to drop. frames and audio gets back..
So far I have done following tests:
    • I visited a friend and uses his and tried it with Older Airport Express a/b/g version. I also had the same issue. (sometimes it is fine but after a few tries the same issues comes up again.
    I have more tests planned:
    • I'm now upgrading my TimeCapsule software to latest release of airport and also my system software to 10.5.4
    • I also went to buy the usb ethernet cable to see if that is gonna help
My Question does any one else has this problem?
    regards,
    Marc

    Hi,
I saw your previous post about ichat and Skype freezing after a short time in use. I have the exact same problem, the same way you described it.
I don't have the Macbook Air connected to TimeCapsule, etc..
I think it has something to do with a lack of system resources for processing the video...
Have you found a fix? What are your thoughts?
    Thanks..!

  • Problem with TimeCapsule after upgrading to new mac...

    hi,
I bought a new UniBody MacBook just before Xmas, and turned off TimeMachine during the upgrade from my PowerPC G4. Since then, until now, I stupidly forgot to turn it back on. Now I did remember, it doesn't work! It tells me it it failed with the detail of the error message "The backup disk image could not be created." So I chose the TimeCapsule disk again, enter the password, the settings reset, force it to back up now, and AGAIN it fails...
My HD is bigger (232GB) than the free space on the TimeCapsule disk (178GB), can that be the issue? The used space of course is smaller (54GB).
Time Machine was THE reason I upgraded to Leopard, and right now, I'm stuck, so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nadine

    Thank you Mark,
I found out in parallel this was my problem: not only was the computer not named in "Sharing"
[go to Preferences - Sharing - add a name in the top field which is visible for all methods of sharing]
but it also didn't have a DHCP Client ID - adding that second name did the trick
[go to Preferences - Network - AirPort - Advanced - TCP/IP - add name with only alpha-numerical characters in the DHCP ID field, press ok.]
Now I have to decide when to delete the old backup which it doesn't seem to reuse... looks from other posts like that could be tricky.
    Happy Backuping

  • Timecapsule shows two disks after mountain lion upgrade?

I have a TimeCapsule, which has been doing a good job wirelessly backing up my Macbook.
I recently upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion and have noticed that time machine now shows me as having two disks:
I know that after the upgrade Time Machine seemed to be intent on performing a full backup. Does this mean that in effect it created a new drive on the TimeCapsule? If so, what will happen to the old disk? Will it ever be deleted? Or if not, how do I eventually remove it without losing my more recent backups?
And is there any way for me to rename the old disk? As you can see from the two screenshots, it isn't particularly obvious which one is which.

Ah, this may be expected functionality that has changed in Mountain Lion. I gather that it's to do with 'rotating backups'. These are described by Pondini here - http://pondini.org/TM/34.html - and appears to show the same display.
The thing that isn't entirely clear is that this window shows both the current backup disks and all available backup discs, even if in use. To quote Pondini: "(Oddly, already-selected disks appear in both sections.)"
**** right it's odd. Who thought that was a good UI? And thanks Pondini, that's answered my question.

  • WiFi Throughput worse since upgrading to latest TimeCapsule

I'm using my Time Capsule as NAS to stream movies from. I recently upgraded from a 2nd to a 4th gen TimeCapusle but since then I have problems streaming movies. They constantly need to buffer . I guess the throughput is not as good as before even though the WiFi reception seems to be a bitter better (accoding to the icon in the menubar)
    Here's my setup:
4th gen Time Capsule 2GB, Firmaware 7.6, WPA network
2 Airport Express (all "-n") extending the WPA network
HD Movies stored on the TimeCapsule and are streamed to iTunes on my MacBook
This all worked without problems using my old 2nd gen TimeCapsule. My first attempt to solve the problem was to manully define the WiFi channel after looking at all the 55 network in range but this has not changed anything.
Any ideas who I can solve/ look deeper into this problem?
    Thanks!
    sven

I have tried this however it did not make a difference.  I found another user on the support pages that has the same issue.

  • Intermittent backups with TimeCapsule after upgrading to 10.7.2 from 10.6.x

I upgraded to 10.7.2 from the latest version of 10.6.x yesterday.  I'm still getting the bugs out.
One of the bugs is that my TimeCapsule seems to back up successfully only intermittently.  I've gotten some error messages which say something about not being able to access the drive (I don't recall the exact text of the error message right now).  After trying to select the TimeCapsule a few times with no luck I gave up.
When I came back to it a few hours later it seemed to have worked.  Thus the "intermittently successful" part.
Anyone else having problems like this?
    Thanks.

Yes, it is common problem.. Lion and latest TC firmware not a great combo.. go back to 7.5.2 and it is much reduced.

  • After upgrading MobileMe to iCloud I can not get my TimeCapsule via "Back to my Mac" feature

I have made no changes in TimeCapsule setting. Before upgrade to iCloud all was working fine, but right after it I lost any access to my TC via Internet.
What can I do to fix it?

My guess is that this will be another extremely useful feature that the new "gimmick" named iCloud will knock out. So many people are moving toward this abomination called iCloud only to realize that MobileMe was a better solution. Now we must use DropBox and other methods to continue true mobile/cloud computing. I advise many clients and many are disappointed that their digital workflow has been revoked. They are even more upset that they had to pay to do so. I usually try not to complain about lost features as they usually have a better replacement, but these new features have not unhanced their predecessors... in fact, they have only iliminated them.

  • How to downgrade Timecapsule 7.6.4 to 7.6.1... I have no button "Upgrade Firmware" on the latest release of rhe Airport utility

With a TC 2nd generation, I have problem with Wifi dropping down after few days.
I'm running 7.6.4 firmware and it looks that people having same problems have fixed it with downgrading to 7.6.1
On the latest Airport utility (running on my MacOSX maverick), I could find any button (or menu) to upgrade firmware (or choose to downgrade to a previous version)
Has anybody an idea to force this downgrade?
    Many thanks for your help!
    Best
    Marc

    It is a hidden option.
Click on the TC in the airport utility.. then in the summary screen..
Click on the version with the option key held down.. all the other firmware available show up.. select one..

  • IPhoto LIbrary missing after Snow Leopard upgrade MISSING FROM TimeCapsule!

    _+*VERY ANGRY!!_!+*
My iPhoto library is missing from users/pictures after upgrade to 10.6
I figure I am backed up - use time machine/time capsule (ran it just before upgrade to be safe)
When I look at Time Capsule to restore, there are NO iPhoto libraries there anymore! None, over a year of running time machine!
I have used time machine and time capsule to restore my mac in the past, it worked, iPhoto was restored fine.
    How can this be?!

Any word back from Apple (engineers or otherwise) on the missing iPhoto libraries? I updated our MacBook from 10.5 to 10.6 last night and all of our photos from 11/07 on have vanished. This corresponds to the date I purchased the current MacBook and of course, is close to the birth date of my two year old. Obviously, I am also furious that it looks like I've lost all of our photos of our only daugter. I also have a time machine back-up, but the folks at the Apple Store in Oak Brook thus far have been unable to find any indication of any additional photos on my dedicated back-up drive, suggesting that the iPhoto has never been backed up properly (the time machine back up drive has been in use for approx 1.5-years). I am amazed that this type of issue has occurred. Taking the Apple Genius' best guess of the situation, there appear to be at least two serious flaws: the 10.6 upgrade causes of significant loss of data (drive went from approx 7GB free to 52GB free), and (ii) Time Machine has never properly backed up the data in the first instance.
The Apple Genius just called again and wanted to give up, but as a last gasp, I convinced them to restore the whole 10.5 install off the drive, in hopes that 10.5 might recognize the library where 10.6 cannot. Given my understanding that Time Machine was supposed to back-up the whole drive, I have faint hopes this might work.

  • What's New in Time Capsule firmware 7.4.1 upgrade from 7.3.2?

Is it worth upgrading the firmware on my home and work Time Capsules to the latest 7.4.1? What's new or known to be better in it?

The update seems to give you some but not all functionality of the "new" TimeCapsule that was announced a few days ago.
For instance you now have the ability to access your TimeCapsule remotely more easily than before if you are a MobileMe subscriber (you could access it before as well but needed additional services like DynDNS)
What is unfortunately not included is the new "Guest access" function.
I have not yet tested, if multiband access (accessing the TimeCapsule with devices of different WLAN modes) is also faster after the update (as advertised for the new TimeCapsule)

  • TimeCapsule Wifi unstable (when on a non-Mac devices)

I have a TimeCapsule and I connect many devices to Wifi: --> iMac,Windows Vista PC, Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android, Iphones, etc..
I am having wifi crashes mainly when connected on a Vista PC or Android Tablet. Suddenly the internet crashes and I need to reconnect manually. When streaming online content (video from Youtube or audio from interent radios) fron non-MAc the crash will happen at some point (sometimes earlier, sometimes later)....but this is not limited to content streaming as it also happens when surfing the web.
I noticed that the wifi network disappears from the list for a while, as if AirPort restarts. I need then to reconnect manually.
Whern on a Mac device, this seems not to be a problem and I do not experience crashes....
I upgraded firmware to the latest version, but nothing changed.
Does anyone know this issue and the reason why and how to solve it?
Unfortunately my experience with Mac products is that if you remain within the "Mac world" using Mac products, your are good to go, however compatibility with other brands is an issue, and this is a great inconvenience when we talk about an Air Port!...
Thanks a lot for any advvice as I tried everything to solve this and this forum is my last hope.

Different products use different wireless chipsets.. even apple have used different wireless cards in each Generation of the TC and each update of the computers they build. But at least Apple only works with a small range of hardware and can sort out the drivers. Drivers can and usually are the problem, although some wireless chipsets really just don't work well together.. you will notice this on any brand.. to brand difference. Wireless is voodoo still .. it is about 50% science and 80% black arts. (in voodoo you don't need to add up to 100%).
Vista .. shudder.. was built with known issues in the wireless management that were never fixed. Upgrade that computer to XP.. or win7. Vista is just a dog. it will be faster and more stable. Replace the wireless card to match the TC.
Some of the earlier Andoid also are known to have issues.. check if there is firmware update or anything available to help. Android had a really nasty bug. Cannot remember much about it now.. so google.
I would suggest you at least make the wireless have some hope of working.
You will need to do the following.
    1. Use SMB names not Apple type naming. SMB is short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Apple uses spaces and particularly apostrophe.. don't. That applies to all names in the TC, so change the TC name and wireless name.. give a different name to 5ghz.
    2. Use WPA2 Personal (AES) security. Use a passkey of 8-12 characters same rules as above.
    3. Lock the radio channels. TC is set to auto by default and will wander channels to find most clear.. the wandering is a problem.
    4. You might need to either lock IP via dhcp reservation or manually set IP on the device.. Often issues involve address failing and constant reconnections. It will eventually fill the table.
    5. You must use 5.6 utility on the Mac so you can check the log of the TC and actually see the wireless clients.
    6. Do not expect vista to get any better.. but at least download the latest driver for the exact wireless card used from the wireless manufacturer.
If none of this works.. use the lateral thinking approach..
Get a cheap TP-Link, edimax etc wireless router. Use it in AP mode.. and plug it into the TC. Use a different name and wireless channel to the TC. Use that for your non-apple products.. it costs $30 or so for N-lite which is all you need. Simple easy effective. That doesn't mean that vista will ever work of course.. vista is fundamentally flawed. Nor can I guarantee early android.. but at least it will be right kind of product.

  • Can I use Airport TimeCapsule's internal hard drive as a network-based backup solution for both windows and mac?

Does the following scenario work??? :-
A Windows PC is connected to Airport TimeCapsule (ATC) wifi.
A Mac is connected to the ATC wifi.
The Mac's Time Machine software is set up and automatically backs up to the internal HDD.
The Mac can browse files on the internal HDD, and drag and drop files to and from.
The PC can easily see the internal HDD as a device on the network. The PC can drag and drop files to the internal HDD. The PC can read and write to the files that the MAC has placed on it. The PC has some automated backup software installed, which recognises the ATC internal HDD as a backup storage device.

You are right.. you cannot partition a TC.
    Nor can you use NTFS..
And you can corrupt the TM backup but you can do that from Mac just as well.. the TC is better with one disk used for data or TM and another disk.. a USB plugged in for the other.
Windows compatible means.. all names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
You used to be able to set workgroup but Apple haven't bothered with that of late.. there is no upgrade to the airport utility for windows.. although one should be coming. Windows can have issues.. it was no problem on the older 5.6 utility and that still partly works but I have no idea if it will work on the AC model.

  • Since I have installed Lion onto my iMac it's impossible to to copy any video file from the mac to an external support (ups-stick, Timecapsule). What's happened? What can I do?

Since I have installed Lion onto my iMac it's impossible to to copy any video file from the mac to an external support (ups-stick, Timecapsule). What's happened? What can I do?

If you just did upgrade Lion, give it some time. I recall having similar problems and some articles mention heavy background work after install - such as re-indexing for Spotlight etc. I couldn't even copy from folder to folder or e.g. iphoto to folder on the same disk. Went away after a day or two though.
I do however still have a problem with AFP access to one of the lion machines - kills it's network adaptors rather quickly. No luck solving this so far :|

  • Upgrading to 10.5.5 breaks wifi?

    Hi guys,
First off, sorry to create another post about wifi issues.
I just switched to a Mac earlier this month and absolutely love it. My only gripe is that the wireless capability of my macbook pro appears to be having some issues when I update from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5.
I dare to say so because some how the "symtoms" (erratic signal strength and disconnects) I am experiencing are very much similar to thousands of mac users and only happens after I updated to 10.5.5 through the apple software update. I was able to update using my wireless network! I have since re-installed using the bundled software discs and reverted to 10.5.2 and I have had no problems what so ever.
I have not applied all available apple updates except for 10.5.5 and still have no problems. I am now tempted to try to apply 10.5.5 update to see if the "symtoms" return.
Can someone comment if they have had wifi issues since 10.5.5?
    Zed over and out!

I have a new iMac and new TimeCapsule. Things were running OK'ish until I upgraded to 10.5.5 when network access started to deteriorate in an unpredictable fashion. The network would slow, and grind to a halt at times. Signal strength would vary markedly. At first I suspected the TimeCapsule and I had this replaced. the problem persisted. I bought a new MacBook Pro (I needed to transfer machines anyway) and after a brief honeymoon period of a day the problem returned. I trawled the internet and followed the tip to delete /Library/Preferences/System Configuration and indeed that would provide temporary relief but not for long.
The new MacBook Pro was installed and had the settings transferred from the old iMac. The TimeCapsule has been reset to factory settings. This has cost me days of work time.
There are countless reports of 10.5 WifI problems. Why have Apple not publicly acknowledged this and at least provided us with some reassurance that this is being addressed?
