Upgraded my video card, now OpenGL on PS CS5.1 64bit isn't working...

Hi,
I upgraded my graphics card today. Went from a 3870 512MB to a 6950 2GB. I didn't even bother installing the drivers on the CD and went straight to the AMD Website to make sure I had the latest drivers. I cleaned my old drivers out and installed the new ones.
Now, when I open up PS, it gives me that OpenGL error message and if I try to enable it, PS crashes.
Any idea what's going on here? I've google "6950 photoshop" along with "problem", "opengl", "error" and other combinations but nothing came up.
PS doesn't even seem to recognize my card for some reason.
Looking forward to your input!

I had this same problem.  My video card is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580.  Running Windows7 Ultimate, Intel i7 processor, 24gb Ram.
The really strange things was that the card WAS recognized in 32bit, but not 64bit mode.
In another thread on this subject, a poster casually mentioned that he had the 3D stuff installed.  I did too, but don't play games on movies on my machine and thought, maybe I should uninstall the two NVIDIA 3D programs.
I did that and can now use the OpenGL in both 32bit and 64bit.
I don't know if this will help many, but maybe someone out there.

I want to upgrade my video card in my  HPE H8-1020 - It is a Eyefinity Radeon HD6570.  I want to upgrade to a professional monitor for photo editing and would like to know what is available?

    Jimg-evv, welcome to the forum.
What is the make/model of the monitor that you want to buy.  I will provide the information for you, but it would help me to know more about the monitor.
You can upgrade the video card.  However, most mid-level cards require at least 400W to operate properly.  The power supply unit (PSU) in the computer is 300W.  A card that would work for your needs would require a PSU upgrade, as well.
I recommend at least 500W; 600W would be even better because it would allow for future upgrades.  I like OCZ and Corsair PSU's.
You would need a PCI Express x16 video card.  I like XFX, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY in that order.  If you upgrade the PSU, this card should work for you.

I recently upgraded to ML and now I find that CS5.5 programs crash unexpectedly all the time. Is anyone else having this issue and what's the best way to resolve this. Help.

You might check and see if there are any Console entries about what happened when you attempted to launch a CS 5.5 app.
Adobe links its apps with the particular volume on which it is running, and altho' I can't recall specifics, I know in the past I have had to reset Adobe's settings after OS upgrade. I do recall that it's a fairly easy procedure; just don't exactly recall what it is.
BTW, CS 4 runs on Mountain Lion for me.

  • Upgrading G4 Video Card Problems

I have two G4 computers that I have tried to upgrade to System X. Both of them basically crashed.
    1) My tech replaced the hard drive in one, but it still doesn't work: If you leave it for a while and start it, it seems to boot fine, but as you work on it, patches of squares, partial windows appear, and then everything starts to go crazy. If I restart it right away, it never completely reboots, the screen develops vertical lines and it tells me to restart my computer.
    2) This one (a friend's computer) I downloaded System 10 and it was fine. He had very little RAM, so he went and bought more. We installed the new RAM and then went online to upgrade to the newest version of X. It locked up and when I try to restart it, the screen gives me lines and then locks up again.
What is up with this? Another friend had the same thing happen. I have spent $350 on a new hard drive, CD burner and the tech to install it all, and now he says there is something wrong with either the video card or the logic board. I feel like a poker player who is "pot commited" and betting on a losing hand!
My friend said screw it and went out and bought a new one. I can't afford a new one, but now I have his and mine and I was hoping that between the two of them I could make one work. His is older but is still a G4. Ideas?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions.
Depending on the exact G4 model(s) you have, a firmware update may need to be applied if it hasn't already been:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
The following link should help you identify exactly which G4 model(s) you have and whether a firmware update may be applicable:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42739
OS X also seems to be quite picky when it comes to RAM and memory that's slightly out of spec may cause problems. If you have any third party DIMMs (memory modules) installed, you could try removing them, assuming you'd still meet the minimum requirements for OS X.
For future reference, hard drives and CD burners etc are considered customer installable parts in the G4 towers and installation instructions can be found here (depending on the model):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75312
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75313
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75314
I assume the computers were okay running OS 9 before hand?
Do you still have the Apple hardware test CD that probably shipped with the computer(s)? This should include a VRAM (video RAM) test etc.

  • Can I upgrade the video card in my 2009 iMac with the new ATI 2 GB VRAM card?

I am looking for more video RAM for video, CGI and animation work in Blender.
I may purchase Final Cut Pro X in the near future and I need to make sure there is enough video RAM to be able to work with this version of FInal Cut.
I, currently, use Final Cut 4 Express and though this runs fine, through Rosetta, on my current setup, I fear this much newer version may need more graphics power than I have, now.
I, also noticed some lag when working with Blender.
No where near as much graphics or video/animation lag as when I using Blender on my old G4m but it's still slightly noticeable.
I realize I may have to install this myself.
Can I purchase, somewhere, Apple's 1 or 2 GB ATI card seperately or from a third party vendor and install, myself.
I have seen posts that tell that the 27 inch iMac has a removable video card and is not soldered to the logic board like in the 21 inch models.
If true, is there a complete procedure for the iMac breakdown, installation of the video card and reassembly procedure?
My iMac only has the stock 256 MB VRAM graphics card.
If the take down looks more difficult than I feel I can attempt, I have an Apple authorized reseller, repair facilty here, in my area.
Could I purchase the card and have them install it for a fee?
ThanX for all of the info and advice, in advance
    Michel

You will need to check if your model originally was offered with a custom build option that included a different graphics card. If so, you may be able to have it done; here is a fellow who managed to do it on a 2011 iMac (graphics card not soldered) and the model originally offered a better card option:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18919734#18919734
    Is this yours:
    http://everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-3.06-27-inch-alumin um-late-2009-specs.html
In particular, click on the link in this section of the specs:
I'd check either with Apple and/or an AASP to see if it can be done with yours or if yours is one of those where it is part of the Logic Board/soldered to it.

  • Looking to upgrade the video card and power supply in the K330

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade the power supply and video card in the Lenovo IdeaCentre K330 but I need to know if these parts will be accepted by the mobo.
Here's the card name (no link, don't know if theres a restriction to off site links) ASUS 2GB GDDR5 DIGI+ VRM technology Graphics Cards HD7770-2GD5
The power supply name follows: Xion High Performance 1000 Watt ATX Power Supply XON-1000P14F
Thanks for reading, and extra thanks for a good reply

Thanks for replying, I have looked into other PSU's and came up with this: XFX PRO750W Core Edition 80+ Bronze ATX 750 Energy Star Certified Power Supply
Feedback? And main question is, will they both (video card and PSU) be compatible with the motherboard that come standard in the K330?
I don't really have a need for the front panel except the power, and backontrack buttons.
Also, the reason why I'm getting a high wattage PSU is because I might later decide to build my own PC with the upgraded parts, and put the old parts back into the K330

  • Upgrading a Video Card for Mac Pro (Early 2008)

I have little experience upgrading systems hardware and I was hoping to get some input as I try to figure out a cost effective card for my 2008 mac.
    What I have:
    * 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel
    * ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
    * with OSX 10.10.2 Yosemite
. . . so far I am looking at the 5770 HD to be a likely replacement if I buy the right one (some, if I'm understanding correctly, aren't compatible because they were flashed for older systems or are simply defective and so require selective shopping— hence, they were not officially supported).  Also, I am unsure if OS Yosemite runs the older cards.
I work with Photoshop, Illustrator, and play games like Starcraft2 and WoW.
    My question is:
Which video cards are compatible with my system and what would be the best replacement?  . . . and will I have to downgrade from OS Yosemite to run certain cards?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi there, welcome to the community.
My advice to you, to achieve cost effective performance, would be to use any vanilla NVIDIA graphics card. Newer versions of Mac OS X have drivers that should be compatible with the card out of the box. The only downside to using a non-mac specific card is that you wont see the boot up process, as the graphics card wont be initialized until the system is completely loaded. If this concerns you, leave your old card in one of the slower, unused slots if possible.
If you are worried about compatibility, I would recommend purchasing at Best Buy, where you can take advantage of their return policy.

  • [Elite e9180f] Possible to upgrade stock video card to Nvidia GTX 650-660 (or similar)?

    Hi all,
I have an Elite e9180f which has the stock NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 video card. I would like to upgrade it to possibly the level of a GTX 650 - 660 (normal or Ti) card. I realize I will need to upgrade the power supply to support it but my concerns are:
    - Heat in the case. Could I overcome this by perhaps adding an add-in fan to a spare card slot?
    - PCIe. The system is PCIe 2.0 while the card is 3.0. Is there any issue with this?
    - Physical card length?
    - Other possible unforseen issues?
    Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

    - Heat in the case. Could I overcome this by perhaps adding an add-in fan to a spare card slot?
Heat in the case shouldn't be an issue if you upgrade to a decent power supply with a good sized fan. The Corsair CX500 and CX600come highly recommened and are known to fit in most HP cases.
    - PCIe. The system is PCIe 2.0 while the card is 3.0. Is there any issue with this?
You won't realize the full theoretical bandwidth of the PCIe 3.0 card but it should work on your computer without issue.
    - Physical card length?
This is always a concern. Please measure the inside of your case, from front to back, along the PCIe x16 slot. Others have reported installing cards as long as 10.75 inches.
    - Other possible unforseen issues?
Please see Dave_G's Guide for Selecting a Discrete Video Card for helpful information, questions , and concerns about this subject.

  • Just installed Blackmagic Video card now I have no BUILT IN audio

Hey all, I just bought a video card today. Blackmagic SP. I installed it, downloaded the driver. my problem is this, I just want to here the BUILT IN audio from Mac. I dont need the card at this point. However, in preferences, when selected, I cant here any audio for BUILT IN audio.
I don't know the answer on this one.
    Any help appreciated

I just want to here the BUILT IN audio from Mac.
Do you mean while working with FCP or did it shut down the audio of all applications?
...However, in preferences, when selected, I cant here any audio for BUILT IN audio.
So there are 2 places to toggle.
In your mac's Systen Preferences > SOUND > Output you can select where audio from all your applications go.
In FCP: Menu > View > Audio Playback you can select your audio output (default is Follow Video. So when your video output is the Blackmagic, your audio will automatically be also). Set this to Built in. Be aware though that when your video is soming out of the Blackmagic and the audio from Built in, that the audio will be off sync.

SO its finals time and while i was studying I decided i was going to update my phone to IOS 7 i went down to the study room and i came back and tried to unlock my phone  and now I am locked out because my password wont work and its the same password I have had for a long time! I have a Macbook Pro wiht Itunes and it wont let me hook up the phone because there is a pasword on it, so do i just have to bite the bullet and reset it? if so how do i do so with out bing able to conect to the computer?
    Thank you so much
    JP

Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Tecra A9 - Is it possible to upgrade the video card?

    Hey there,
I have a Tecra A9 PTS52E and it has Intel integrated graphics. I've read that this means I might not be able to upgrade to a better graphics card.
    Is this true?

Yes, its true because the graphic card is fixed on mainboard so an upgrade is not possible.

    DVI acceptable

    $100 range, $150 range, & $200 range.
    Thank you in advance!

What is the exact model # of this unit?  Without the proper ID, I had some guessing. I did find a 500-217C with the A8-6500. The graphics seems to be built into the CPU chip. Some points to consider:
    (1) You can not get there for $200.   It's more like $400 just for the card.  (Look at my Custom EVGA 670 unit). I'll admit the OCZ PSU is a tad too much, but I like to idle the beast.
    (2) WIN 8.1 OS problem. You have to do the basic research. Some MSI cards have a switch for UEFI vs legacy.
    You'll need a 600-630W PSU, and that's another ding $$.
    (3) The motherboard on the 500-217C is PCIEx16 Gen2. Not Gen3. Another slight ding in performance of 2%-4%.
    4) An avid gamer would list his prized titles, wanting the forum members to recommend a card based on titles.
