Upgraded processor dropped screws

I upgraded the processor on my '09 iMac 21"  and I lost a few of the screws to put the screen back in.  I'm wondering what the repair costs (ballpark) would be if I'm taking it into an apple store in Boston to have the screws replaced.  Effectively what would need to happen is to have the screen taken out and re seated and all the screws for it replaced.  Anyone know  1) Cost i'm looking at 2) turn time 3) would I have to pay before or after the repair is complete.  Thanks for taking the time to read it!

to get a proper estimate, you need to bring the iMac to Apple and have them look at it, or at the very least call them and see what they say.  We don't work for apple and this is not a normal, generic repair such as a hard drive replacement which is an easy quote.

  • Time to upgrade processor?

Upgraded HD to 250 GB, added DVD read write now I need to upgrade processor. Help. Have had G4 since late 2001. Absolutly no problems. Have kept software updated also. Would like to upgrade to new OS Leopard but processor speed only 800mhz, need more. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Budget allows about $400 dollars. Also with a processor upgrade can I increase ram? Right now Im maxed at 1.5g
    Thanks Joey

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
For $400 you can bump the speed of your processor a lot, and give yourself a "new" machine:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=153&type=Processor&TI=1526&sh oupgrds=Show+Upgrades
The dual 1.6ghz processor upgrades would really bring your machine to life.
If you like games, and other graphic intensive applications, a 7455 based processor upgrade might serve you even better. They max out at about 1.4ghz, but have an L3 cache that really helps the processors work "faster":
    http://store.fastmac.com/productinfo.php?productsid=198
    http://www.gigadesigns.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=37
Even without moving to Leopard, the speed increase will improve your experience with Tiger, and all the applications that you have.
I, like Tom, am running a processor upgraded G4, and went ahead and ordered Leopard. Power of positive thinking.....

  • Media encoder time remaining stops decreasing and processor drops to zero. Time elapsed keeps going up! File won't complete!

    Please help anyone who can.
Firstly I know I have very little RAM on my system, only 4GB but I've been rendering the same kinds of files for weeks with no problems until the last few days.
They biggest issues is as follows:
My timeline in Premiere Pro CC 2014 has 1080p 50mbps MXF footage from a Sony PMW 200 and some similar footage replaced with an After Effects comp for green screen keying.
The clip, approx 2min, starts with a linked comp from after effects, then cuts to the mxf footage and back to a linked comp at the end.
I am exporting via media encoder to h264 1080p. The file rendered fine for about 40min with the processor at 50% approx. The processor then shot up to 99% for 10 mins and the render progress bar
went up to almost 90% complete.
Then the progress bar stopped, the processor dropped to 0%, time remaining is steadily climbing and so is time elapsed. I've tried pausing and un pausing the render que and nothing else is running in background.
I need these files rendered tonight!! I've tried this a few times and this problem keeps occurring sometimes with the remaining time shooting up to 74 hours!!
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?!
    Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
    Dell Precision workstation 690
    Intel xeon X5365 3ghz (x2)
    4 GB RAM

Sounds exactly like what is happening to me.  This is frustrating because it was a 30 hour encoding process and the place where it is stuck is right at the very end of the sequence on the 2nd pass, although there is still about 12% of the progress bar remaining.  I guess that this is where it takes all its work and puts the separate files into the single video file. I really don't want to go through this again. The final video file is showing up though and is shown having the size that I am expecting it to be.
Any workarounds to somehow get this unstuck?  I am hesitant to just try and open the file. I am going to try a couple of things and if I am successful at getting this to finish without restarting then I will be sure to post it here.
Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem, but I looked at my system Activity Monitor, and there is a CPU process highlighted in red, it states:
         Adobe QT32 Server (not responding)
    Thirty minutes later...
I was incorrect above as to the actual problem.  I paused the queue encoding that was stuck, then opened up the project again in Premiere Pro only to discover that there was an offline still image which I stupidly had renamed during the day. So I renamed the file back to its original name, reconnected the picture, saved the PP project. Then I started the encoding back up and still no luck.
So I paused the encoding again, went back into the PP project and rendered just the area under question, saved it, and exported it into the queue. Then just to be safe I went to the paused item in AME, and duplicated it adding another version into the queue.
Then I unpaused the encoding and ... SUCCESS!!  Not sure which of the final steps did the trick, but I am guessing that it was the rendering of the part of the sequence that it was stuck on.  Hope this helps someone.

  • Dual 450mhz Gigabit Ethernet - Processor drops out.

    Hi,
I have a G4 Gigabit Ethernet with dual 450mhz processors, and I am having a problem where one of my processors will drop out all together. This has happened sporadically over the past year and a half that I've owned the machine, but it has happened three times in the past month. This doesn't seem like a good sign to me. When the processor fails - according to the activity monitor it's always the same processor - the only way one can tell is by the slowdown of the machine; there are no app crashes, freezes or anything out of the ordinary. A simple shutdown and boot up is all that is needed to get the processor back online, and once that has happened the processor keeps going. I can continuously run this Mac for days without incident. Before this, months.
Has anybody else run into this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Malcolm

    Thank you Japamac and Rodney,
When my friend, who is a Apple certified tech, comes around later this week to scope things out with my Mac, I'll have him check the heat sink and thermal compound.
When the processor dropped out the first two times, it did seem to coincide with an application crashing, the same app both times. However with the latest three episodes, there was no crash and that application was not running - The app I suspected I use almost on a daily basis and it has crashed a couple of times without coinciding with the processor dropping out - so I'm moving away from that theory. As I said previously, when the processor fails, the only way you know for sure is by the degradation of performance. I have also had one freeze up quite recently (maybe the third in a year in a half) but I don't know how you could determine if it was related to this problem, though. There was no information in hardware diagnostics.
Again thank you for your replies.

  • Please help upgrade processor S10

    I have a lenovo s10 . can i upgrade processor from atom N270 to intel dual core 2GHZ ????
it is not danger may net book  ????

    Hi,
    impossible mission...
    hardsoldered cpu... size...power consumption..
thats a netbook not a notebook...
most "books" are not designed to upgrade ... its not a pc, where you can easy change parts (also limited intel/amd/via not compatible) (heatspreader, powerful psu.)...
many thing depends on each other...heat consumption (cooling system) power consumption...
    chipset...grafics...
so the only things you can upgrade , and thats easy in case of S10 ... memory up to 2GB, harddrive (or SSD) up to 500GB (or more but bigger harddrive didnt see now) ... and with a little more experience faster wireless card (n) or bluetooth modul...

  • Advice on upgrading processor for HP A6010n (P5LP-LE Leonite MOtherboard)

Hi i did some searching around and yes i did find some results but most of those were posted back in 2006 so i am sure there are many new products and information since then.
I am currently attempting my first real pc rebuild and i am using my old Hp A6010n desktop (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00877010&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N101)
I have just dropped in 2x 1gb AE ram (AE 1GB DDR2 667 CL5, PC2-5300U-555 AET760UD00-30D) along side the 2x 512mb samsung ram that came with the system. i know ...i know i should have gotten 4x 1gb matching ram but i bought it locally for $20 and the only other ram available is 2gb dd2 which i dont think the mobo can support
now i am trying to upgrade the proccesor in hopes that would be the next big step. currently i have the Intel core Duo 2 E4300 which came with the system and i am looking to upgrade to the best that this mobo could handle. I have read that the fastest should be the intel E4700 @2.6 GHZ but then i read " should be able to pop in a quad Q6600 and POST.  Bottomline is if you have the right BIOS, then board will run well with any Intel 65nm Duo or Quad" so if anyone could shed some light on that would be awesome.
now this info is more than 5 years old. What i am aiming for is to upgrade this computer for gaming. Specifically I am still playing Skyrim so i would like to find what proccessor would be the "best" for this specific build and any instuction on what to do after i receive the processor in turn of installing the hardware and any software steps i would need to take would be appriciated as well
Edit: I forgot to mention that i did upgrade to an external video card which is as follows : ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series according to CCC: 1791MB Memory size, 600Mhz core clock. i would like to upgrade but have no idea what to look for.
also have Adata 6gb/s SSD used strictly for games.
    Much thanks in advance

    Rzetek, welcome to the forum.
There is a BIOS update available.  You should be extremely cautious if you do the upadate.  A failed BIOS flash makes a very good boat anchor.
Here are the processors supported by the motherboard:
    Socket type: 775
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    Core 2 Duo E6x00
    Core 2 Duo E4x00
    Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core
    Pentium D 8xx Dual Core
    Pentium 4 6x1 series
    Celeron D 3xx series
Now, you may be able to install other processors, but this would be at your own peril.  HP has their motherboards made to their specs.  They are not the same as a retail mobo.
You are correct about the memory, because the mobo supports Dual channel memory architecture.  However, since you are running Vista 32-bit, the system will only recognize 3.25 GB of 4 GB the total supported.  It would be a bit faster in Dual channel.

  • Trying to Upgrade Processor, Cannot boot in OS 9 to upgrade firmware

    I have a Power Mac G4(Sawtooth), 450 Mhz, 1.25 GB Memorym running Tiger 10.4.11.
I just purchased a Sonnet Encore/ST G4 1.8 Ghz processor upgrade. Before you can install the new processor you must reboot in OS 9.2 to upgrade the firmware. I have the OS 9 drivers installed as well as OS 9.2.2 on my hard drive. When I try to restart in OS 9.2.2 via the Startup disk, I get the blinking question mark. If I put in the original PowerMac G4 (System 9.0.4) that came with the computer it starts to run then says "System error - Unimplemented Trap, restart with extensions turned off." When I reboot, holding shift it reads "extensions off" but I still get the system-trap error. If I reboot directly from the OS 9 CD, it will not recognize my hard drive in Disk SetUp to try and reinstall System 9. I'm at a loss as to how I can upgrade the System 9 firmware!? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
(I did put in a new 320 GB hard drive (Western Digital Caviar) and a SIIG-680-R1 PCI card a few years back and remember I had a frustrating time trying to get OS 9 on the drive. I think I may have copied a clone of a system 9 folder onto it just to get it recognized.)

I got my MDD with no drives and installed two 250GB WD Caviers. Set both to cable select and had no troubles at all. Earlier G4s (covered in other forum areas) require the master/slave scheme for hard drives but not the MDD.
My son (also has an MDD) needed to move more files than could be accommodated via the home network, so he dropped an old 20G drive in a front drive bay set to cable select and had everything moved in short order. Unless your G4 is NOT an MDD, cable select should work.
When you have multiple drives installed, Disk Utility lets you select them individually for formatting; it should not affect your existing drive if you add and format an additional drive.
    I think that's what you're asking.

  • Upgrading processor of HP 630 notebook

Please what do i require to upgrade  the processor of my notebook from the current:
    model  LH359EA     with pentium R cpu P6200 @ 2.13 Ghz to an i3 or i5 processor.
Can I just buy the processor accesories and install directly?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
The best processor you can install is a Intel® Dual Core i5-2540M 2.60-GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.30-GHz; 3.0-
    MB L3 cache, 35 W)
Yes, this is a "drop-in" replacement and if you can follow the Manual you can open it up and swap the CPUs.
Here is the CPU on eBay:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i5-2540M-SR044-2-6GHz-CPU-3MB-5GT-s-PGA988-CPU0006-/151357531224?...
It is not the easiest thing to do. I would encourage you to consider a RAM upgrade or solid state drive before trying to change a processor, but the bottom line is it can be done and in your case would probably yield a good speed improvement.

  • 4.3.2 iPhone upgrade and dropped calls.

Since upgrading to the 4.3.2 OS three days ago, I've been experiencing numerous dropped calls on the order of one every minute.  Calls linger in limbo before connecting and then drop.  Antena signal reads 3 bars.  I'm missing calls too.  I live in the same area and have NEVER had a problem with dropped calls until this update and it is really causing problems.  Why?  Is the phone failing?  Is this an update problem?  Is this a network problem?  Is anyone else experiencing this?

I am experiencing the same issue here in Germany, Network is T-Mobile.
Since upgrade to 4.3.2 I have dropped calls regularly with my iPhone4!!
This is getting more and more annoying.
What happens is: I am starting a call or am receiving a call. The call stays up for 1-5 minutes. During that time (randomly differs from 30 seconds to 5 minutes) all of a sudden the person on the other side does not hear me anymore! I am still able to hear him/her! After around 5-10 seconds after that happening, the connection is lost/cancelled. This is happening independently of the amount of bars, meaning it does not matter whether I am having 5, 3 or just one bar.
Please Apple solve this!! I cannot use my phone anymore the way it is supposed to work! Never had this issue before the upgrade in the same places - in fact, before the upgrade, I did not experience ANY dropped call whatsoever!!
BTW: I tried reboot, reset of all settings, backup, etc. - no positive effect.

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - Upgrade Processor

    Hello,
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.  Because of a new job I need to update my processor from the current 2.30 GHz (see exact specs below, please) to at least 3.0 GHz.
Is there a 3.0GHz processor out there that is compatible with this particular computer? I've called technical support and was told they don't know. I really don't know who else to ask.
This computer was just purchased a few months ago (before I got the new job). I would really like to avoid purchasing a new computer, if at all possible, if I can upgrade the processor in this one.
Here are the specs of the current processor:
    Intel Core i7 3610QM
    Code Name    Ivy Bridge
    Package    Socket 988B rPGA
    Technology    22nm
    Specification    Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
    Thanks in advance.

Well, there appears to be just one (that I've found) 3.0 GHz processor that Intel makes for my chipset  (HM77 Express Chipset) and it's the i7-3940XM Extreme edition (http://ark.intel.com/products/71096/)
At a retail price of $1,000+ it looks like I'm going shopping for a new computer.
Not sure if anyone from HP read the peer forums, however, I will not be purchasing another HP product.
This machine has had issues outside of me needing to upgrade the processor for my own personal reasons. Your support is grossly lacking in all areas Your techscannot even pull up the model number with the serial number.
Customers should not have to go out on the Internet to research questions like this.

  • Anyone try to load leopard onto a powermac G4 with upgraded processor

I have a sawtooth that I upgraded with a powerlogix processor (1.4G) anybody try to upgrade one yet?

I installed Leopard on a G4 agp sawtooth 1.6 GB PPC upgrade from power logic, 640 mb ram 120 GB hd. The machine boots great from the leopard cd, The install was text book, and fast, Clean install only took 30 minutes. The computer kernal panics or just shuts off after a few seconds loading the OS . I had to use this same machine to install to my mini because the internal DVD is just spent. The Install went just as quickly and the mini boots fine. Trouble shooting I decided to try installing to an external firewire drive. Installed and booted to Leapard. Great ! Not yet.... It was fine until I shut down. The computer will not start Leopard. I used the Leopard install cd to check all of the drives I have installed on and it finds no errors. I have removed and replaced ram with matching sticks, I also have a upgraded video card which I removed and used the stock card. I zapped the pram. I am out of ideas at this point. I would not normally continue with this upgrade, but powerlogic states that their processors are Leopard compatible. Also others are reporting successful results with the same hardware. Any suggestions?

  • Upgraded processor

I replaced the stock processor on my G4350 Sawtooth with a 1gig Mercury Extreme and it's been working just fine. Problem is the system profiler shows the cpu speed as 0 MHz. Recently I tried to install OSX Leopard on a new external Firewire HD and got my hand slapped-" this software cannot be installed on this computer" was the response from the install DVD. I figure the cpu speed mentioned earlier is the culprit. Is there anyway to get the correct speed to show up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might re-check the J3 pin on your processor upgrade.
According to that chart, you would get 1.05GHz if only J1 and J5 are jumpered.
It shouldn't need any speed correcting software for 1GHz.
I read your original post too fast and missed the part about Leopard. I apologize for that.
The Sonnet software is not compatible with Leopard.
Giga Meter is Leopard compatible, and available here (free Yahoo.com account required).
    http://macdrivermuseum.net/accel.shtml
Go to "new uploads" then "cpu upgrades". If you don't have (or don't want) a Yahoo account, I can email it to you.
Once installed, this page says how to load Giga Meter from your hard drive while booted to the Leopard DVD.
