Upgraded RAM MBP 2010 Boot good but won't wake up!
I orderd 8 gig's of RAM from Apple. Installed it per the instructions. Now, the MBP with Lion boots up and runs fine from off, the activity monitor aknowledges the 8 gig's. Runs well.
When I close it and then open it back up, the screen stays black and the sleep light goes out. Also, sometimes it won't boot, the light blinks and it makes a beeping noise over and over until I do a hard shutdown. Also, a couple of times, I was using it and the graphics went totally screwy and were blinking and whatnot until I did a hard shut down.
Any idea's? Can I return the memory (a shame because it is better with it when it works).
Software Mac OS X Server Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 288 MB
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
17-inch, Mid 2010
I experienced the same issue once on my late 08 Macbook Uni when I upgraded to 8GB. What I did might not apply to you but it's worth a try.
When I heard a lot of beeps on boot with nothing showing on the screen, I shut it down and opened the back and took the RAM that I installed off and slowly put it back in and made sure it was seated right.
After I've done that, everything worked fine for me.
Hope that works for you.

K8T (MS 6702-020) Goes thru the boot screens, but won't load Windows!
My computer was running fine and turned off normally the last time it worked. The next time I tried to turn it on it would go thru the boot pages, but as soon as the Windows screen came on the computer reboots. It won't boot in "safe" mode or from CD either. I have exhausted my knowledge and need some help to determine my problem.
I definitely could have missed something or did something wrong in what I have tried, so starting from the beginning on any troubleshooting would be appreciated.
Thanks for any help.

I believe an iPad 2 is still within the warrantee period. I suggest you contact Apple for advice on how to proceed. Since I don't know where you are, you can start by going to <Country> to select a different location. Then look for a Support tab and a Contact Us link.
Another alternative is to search for an iPad repair center. If you are lucky, there may be one in your city. I do not know what they might charge.

Mac Mini/Mountain Lion sleeps but won't wake up (or crashes) every night.
Hi everybody,
I have a mid-2010 mac mini server on which I recently installed Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (without server stuff).
Every night, it stops responding. The led is on but the display is off and it does not respond to mouse/keyboard. I even tried remote desktop.
The only solution is the power button...
What I already did :
- Reset Pram/Nvram
- Reset SMC
I also took a look at the console and I found a message that is fired just before the machine stops responding.

Any clue ?Hi, I'm quite interested by your issue, because i get the exact same one.
On my mini (late 2012), system doesn t wake up from sleep if it has slept for more than 1 hour.
In fact I get the exact same message as you get in your console.
When I try and wake up system before the programmed maintenance wakeup, it wakes up fine.
But as soon as this programmed time has passed, it just won t wake up, I have to force switch it off via the power button and restart it.
I have nothing plugged on my mini except : AC - Thunderbolt display, and LAN connected to my freebox.
Do you still have the issue or is it ok now for you ?
I'll try in the upcoming days to plug the freebox in the thunderbolt display's adapter instead of the macmini's rj45. -
Laptop P505D-S8000 went to sleep but won't wake up...
Laptop was put to sleep and now won't wake up. Power, plug & battery lights are on and power switch is lit. No hard drive activity at boot. Fans run than stop. I tried all the known tricks of removing battery & power cord, pushing power button for 60 secs, than powering up with power cord only. This seems to be the fixall for this problem when I searched the web but only seems to work for 1 out of 10 people. I have checked the screen at an angle to make sure the backlight is not out but since I am not getting activity on the hard drive I figured it was OK. I get nothing by trying to boot into setup modes, bios checks or safe mode.
Any last advice other than take it to a toshiba tech? RickUnfortunately that fix doesn't always work because these symptoms often represent a hardware failure.
Just to confirm, the power LED (not the AC adapter LED) does light up when you press the power button, right? If so, it does sound like you'll need to get the notebook serviced.

Hp DV7 Hibernates but won't wake backup forceing me to shut it off on reboot it goes to reapir
I have a DV7-6175US that had been working fine and then recently the laptop will go into hibernate mode but will not wake up when pressing any keys or anything and it forces me to then do a hard boot and on reboot windows repair comes up and I have to go through that. Now it does not happen every single time it is pruely random event. I have checked for Virus and Malware bugs and I have gone into the BIOS and set the deafults into place.
I see then your could try this:

Upgraded ram on arch64 to 4GB, but only 3Gb is recognized
I just added a 2Gb stick of ram to my work system and the bios recognizes all 4Gb but Arch only sees 3Gb. I've booted multiple live 64bit cd's and the problem persists accross all of them. I'm clueless as to what may be causing this. ANY help would be appreciated, if I can't get to use all 4 gigs, then a simple explanation would be helpful.
Here are some details I have from my system:

I have read quite a bit about other people having this issue with other systems and I've gone all through my bios looking for SOME sort of option that I can at least play around with, but there's nothing there. I've also upgraded the bios thinking that "maybe" it could be something with that. The video card I'm using is a Nvidia Quadro NVS 420 512 Mb. I've tried disabling IndirectMemoryAccess in my xorg.conf thinking that might be messing with it somehow, but it did nothing. I just tried removing the video card altogether and running w/ the onboard video and alas! I recovered 512Mb, which I would be pleased with, but when I add the card back, the available ram disappears again. So now my question is this... Why would the kernel be reserving 512Mb of system ram for a card that has 512Mb of ram built in (at the same time not visibly acknowledging the fact that it exists)? Is this maybe a kernel option that I can pass at boot to disable it from reserving the system ram?
I'm sorry about the lack of the bbcode tags btw, I'm a first timer to the forums (however an arch user for some time now).
Thanks again for any input, it's much appreciated! -
MBP shuts down normally but won't power up unless reset
Upgraded to Leopard about a week ago. Since then: MBP shuts down normally. But a simple press to the power button won't start it up. If I press and hold it, then press again, it will start up. Seems to be functioning just fine otherwise.
Ultimately this machine ended up back at apple, was repaired under warranty, and works fine.

Upgrading RAM,MBP 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo can it handle
I have the following MBP and it currently has a two GB RAM and of lately its been running really really slow, I saw this at the activity monitor and it says only 60MB as free memory (is this whats causing the slow down)
How much RAM can my MB handle and any suggestions on which to buy.Only the Mac mini 2011 model can support the Thunderbolt display, the 2010 model cannot.
In terms of a display - resolution, colour, size, etc. there is effectively no difference between the Thunderbolt and previous Mini Displayport Cinema Display. The difference is the connection.
Thunderbolt allows running both data and the screen over the same single cable. It also allows daisy-chaining to more devices including a second screen, something Displayport cannot do.
Both the 2010 and 2011 models support Lion.
You could consider selling the 2010 model and then getting a 2011 model. -
Startup disk full error - boots normally but won't start finder
I'm having a problem in which my iMac when it boots gives me an error that the startup disk is full, but other than that it can boot normally and allow me to log in, but after that the startup stalls. I never get past the default "outer space" desktop image and finder never starts, so there's no icons, no dock, and nothing on the menu bar. What's weird is that Safari and Mail start and I can see them because I believe I have them starting automatically at boot. Safari works (I'm using it now to enter this discussion). Mail on the other hand starts but is hung checking for the servers for incoming mail.
I've tried to boot in safe mode (holding down Shift key at startup), but it doesn't work.
I've tried to boot in single user mode (holding down cmd-S at startup), but it doesn't work either.
I've tried to boot from Snow Leopard installation media (holding down C at startup), but it doesn't work as well.
Each time I try one of these alternate boot methods, it just takes me to the normal login screen with the startup disk full message. I click OK, login, and get stuck.
I'm just trying to get the finder started so that I can delete some files, but I just can't get that far. It's strange that the browser works perfectly and internet connection is fine, but nothing else works.
Thoughts? Thanks. - MikeHi Lina, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Safe Mode might allow you to boot and free up some space.
If you have access to another Mac and a FireWire cable, another option would be to use FireWire Target Disk Mode to transfer data to the other Mac and delete it on your MBA.
If either way works, you want to open up somewhere around 15% free space. Once you do that, run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen select the language and click Continue> click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).
Ultimately, though, it sounds like you need a larger HD . . . . -
Cs3 preview looks good but won't display some pictures online.
Using cs3. My pages work fine in display but some .gif and .jpeg won't display once published. Same in ie and mozilla. http://www.cinnamonridgehomes.com/homeplans.html Any ideas?
There should be 10 plans listed with pics on each. I am only seeing 4 pics though all the plan names are there. Same result on 3 different computers. Are you seeing something different?

Boots fine, but won't Safe Boot
All of a sudden, I've been having two problems. The first one I've posted already, but will list here in case one has to do with the other.
The first problem is that I can't open any disk images. I repaired permissions, repaired disk (it was fine), got rid of the recommended extensions and caches and rebooted, tried another user login, nothing helps.
The new problem is that I tried doing a Safe Boot (hold down the shift key after the startup chime), and it hangs at the gray apple and spinning gear. Mind you, the computer boots just fine the normal way (no keys depressed during boot). Any ideas of what's going on?Did you use Disk Utility from a backup/clone emergency boot drive?
How about Single User Mode and running fsck command to repair the drive?
Safe Boot sounds like it is unable to replay the journal file properly - or something - and that you have a dirty file system directory issue.
Or, a bad SHIFT KEY ;-( (unlikely, or bad USB cable connection).
Some of us have a policy of never using "delta" software updates, only using the combo update (standalone), and once in awhile, MacFixit/MacIntouch and others have recommended rerunning the combo update again to fix some "minor" problems.
I am a fan of using Applejack before any update to check the drive, delete caches, remove swap files, look for corrupt plists, after running fsck. And to never use the computer during or while it is being updated, which has been known to lead to problems. -
Driver Added to Boot.wim but won't recognise on PXE boot
Hi, this is a bit of an odd one.
I have taken the boot.wim file from Windows 7 Pro DVD > Sources folder. I have injected the correct network driver (tested within online image using drvload, I get an IP address), committed this to wim and then added into WDS environment:
Windows Server 2003, WDS not sure what version (how can I find this out)?
I have DOUBLE checked that the .INF file for this driver I have injected is in fact showing in the C:\windows\system32\driverstore etc by mounting wim again and checking the mount folder.
When I PXE boot and select this boot image however, I still receive the 'WDSclient, unable to match network driver' error.
If I hit shift + F10 and manually load the exact same driver from USB, I can again get an IP address afterwards! So I know for a fact I am injecting the correct driver. It's almost as if the setup.exe process isnt loading the driver even though the file
is there.
Any ideas?
ThanksSolved! Well, using a workaround.
Installed WDS on one of our Windows 2008 servers so I had the additional options within WDS to add driver packages etc. Added driver this way then exported the image and imported into the original WDS server. Works fine.
Can't just switch to using the 2008 server full time currently as I'm on a tight deadline to roll an image out and the network has many vlans, I'd have to change config to allow traffic from our build network VLAN environment to new WDS server etc. -
Won't fall asleep, but won't wake either
my parents have a powermac g4 with dual 1.25 processors, 2 gigs of ram, and tiger 10.3.9. recently it has developed a glitch when trying to put the computer asleep. when we try to put it asleep, the computer screen goes black. however, all the fans continue to run in the tower. moving the mouse which used to bring the computer back to life does nothing. there is no way to get the screen to come back to life. turning the power switch on and off on the lcd screen brings up a no input signal message. the only thing i can do when the computer is in this unresponsive mode is to hold the power switch and turn it off manually.
i have repaired disk permissions on the hard drive using disk utility. other than that i don't know what to do. other than this the computer has been working great.
we have just bought leopard for our powermac. i want to upgrade but i would like to fix this problem. if anyone has an recommendations to fix this problem i would appreciate it. also if anyone has any recommendations i should do before i upgrade i would appreciate it. i have backed up most of what we would want in case something went wrong. i'm just curious if there are things i should check or do to make sure the upgrade will go well.
thanks for the help.I would try replacing the PRAM battery. There is old, but still relevant information here: http://www.academ.com/info/macintosh/
The usual signal of a low battery is incorrect date and time, but you can have a low battery that causes weird behaviour without seeing the date and time symptoms. -
