Upgraded Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5) - Now PC can't See Mac

I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5. Under 10.4, I had always routinely synced data using Windows XP Briefcase. Well, when I upgraded to 10.5, PC & Mac would not see each other anymore, bidirectionally, neither one could see the other. These are connected over AirPort only.
I spent two hours searching online and an hour and a half with Apple on the phone.
We did a bunch of stuff in System Preferences:
Network/[protocol/Advanced/WINS -- made sure the workgroup had the right name
Sharing/[user]/ -- turned on file sharing and made sure SMB was selected in the submenu
Sharing/ -- changed the "Computer Name"
Trashed a bunch of plists under [drive]/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
network.identification
NetworkInterfaces
preferences
None of that fixed it, but may have been part of the solution. Apple told me I was on my own, and EVEN SUGGESTED I CONTACT MICROSOFT?

Go to Airport utility.
Change meaningless setting: Changed DHCP lease from 4 hours to 4 days
Update the Airport (cause it to reboot)
Reboot PC & Mac - assigning new IP addresses over DHCP
Map network drive from PC to Mac.
Now I can see my Mac from the PC!
I still can't see the PC from the Mac, but that direction is not as important to me.
Good luck to all of you suffering through the Leopard "upgrade."

Did you click on the little triangle? Did you select one of the document files before pressing COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window? If the panel is closed it looks like this:
If you then click on that little triangle gadget you get this:
A temporary solution is to CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the document file, navigate to the Open With item, and select from the sub-menu.
The first method makes the association permanent. This method only applies to the currently selected document.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

Yes. Reinstall iTunes. If that is the point at which you stopped trying the support suggestions then it makes sense to me, that you move on to the next suggestion and if reinstalling iTunes is the next suggestion, so be it.
However .... I too have issues that arise out of the blue with my iPad being recognized in iTunes and what I always do and it eventually works is to quit iTunes, restart my MacBook, and reboot my iPad.
Rebooting the iPad is the last thing that I do and only if I have no success with quitting iTunes and restarting the Mac. It may take a few tries to work, but if you are that dead set against reinstalling iTunes, then give it a try.

A computer requires authorisation to play content. If you have bought content using 2 Apple IDs over the years you need to authorise the machine for both Apple ID accounts.

Now I can't access Segoe UI Light when in any Microsoft 2011 Office for Mac app. When I open files using Segoe UI Light created before the OS upgrade, another font shows up on the page, yet checking the ribbon, it lists the font as Segoe UI Light. Only Light ( Regular, SemiLight, Semibold, Bold, etc. are all accessible) and only Microsoft apps (works fine in Adobe suite). The Segoe UI family is enabled in Font Book. This font is used extensively in company presentations and documents, so I absolutely need access to it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I installed Prokit 7 upgrade today and now I can't see any of my type 1 fonts when in Indesign or Photoshop. Not sure if the upgrade did it, but it seemed to coincide with the problem. I am a graphic artist spend all day everyday using these programs, hardly ever have a font problem. Anyone have a similar problem?

I reinstalled Prokit 7 upgrade and it did not fix the problem.
I put my fonts in user/library/fonts, where I have always put them and when I am in any Creative suite app. the only fonts visible in the font list are open type and TT fonts. No type 1 fonts appear in the list even though I have them in the fonts folder. They do not appear in fontbook either.

Have you tried to reset your iPad and/or force close the app?
Reset
Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. No data will be lost.
Force close an app
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.

DO you have any more information? Like did you lose your glasses, turn the monitor off or are you trying to look for the photos via the finder?
If the latter is the case, The basic answer is to export them to a desktop folder and access them from there

I asked because an awful lot of people have recently been confused between downloading the Cloud and the perpetual versions of Lr - although I'm not automatically assuming your'e guilty of this - and can't understand why their serial no won't unlock their new software.
If the wrong version has been installed, then it must be uninstalled and the right one downloaded.

I was thinking of buying new phone in next few months, but if this is resolved I'm leaving Apple.

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

Snow Leopard Parental Controls and iChat (Can't see iChat anymore)

I enabled Parental Controls on my daughters profile. I left applications to unrestricted access, and unrestricted access to web sites (but I still review the log)... I selected to LIMIT iChat and then added the people she can chat with (she's 8).
The problem is, it looks like iChat is online. It's in her dock. Has the little white light dot on underneath the app but I can't see the chat window. You know, where you actually double click on someone to chat with? What gives???
When I go to iChat preferences and on the Accounts tab, "enable this account" is not checked, but it's grayed out so I can't check it!!

It seemed to crop up in Leopard with the first Parental Controls and has yet to be "sorted" in Snow Leopard.
I tend to think it is because Parental Control Updates are out of Step with iChat ones but I have no real insight as to the cause.
