Upgraded to 10.7.5, and my spam filtering doesn't appear to work well in Mail

Sometimes it will put the spam in the Spam folder, and sometimes it won't. Is there any way to force it to always put spam in the spam folder automatically?
Is 10.8.5 or higher any better at spam filtering than 10.7.5?
Yes, I have 10.9.2 on one machine, but have not had a chance to upgrade all the machines.

It is desperately critical to delete all existing PSE preferences when you upgrade OS X. How did you do the upgrade? Did you just install it over your previous system, or did you do an erase install and then migrate back your programs and data?

You certainly are going to see improvements if you download big files, i.e. Apple updates, or watching trailers also at higher resolution.
You won't see much difference if you use peer to peer download.

Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

Have you tried doing turning the battery level display off and then General -> "Reset all settings"? You won't loose any data and that should do the trick.

Are you looking at the tabs on the right-hand side of iTunes when you've connected and selected your device on the left-hand side of iTunes ? i.e. it should be one of the tabs that you use to chose what content to sync to the device : syncing photos

Mac Mail and Poor Spam Filtering

Hello. Is anyone else having issues with Mail not filtering Spam correctly? I have been battling something since early February. I'm getting hit with Spam every half hour. It's from 20+ different places and there special offers. About 50 spams a day.
This has only been a real problem since 2 months ago.
I've tried going into preferences in Mail and junk mail and then click advance and add the key words I don't want accepted, with no luck. My Advance filter system is so bogged down, I can't even see the end anymore.
Here's my settings in Junk Mail:
1. Enable Junk Mail Filtering = Yes
2. When Junk Mail Arrives = Move to the Junk Mailbox Automatic
3. The Following types of messages are exempt from junk filtering= all 3 on
4. Trust junk mail headers set by you ISP = Yes
Then in Advanced I have all the popular key Spam words in=
Wal Mart, Viagra, Sex, Special Offer, Drugs, Cialus, Target, Sears, Credit, Loans, Hey Baby, Bro, Free Offer, Congratulations, confirmation ETC...
I have the description at the top named "JUNK"
Then under that...
If "ANY" of the following conditions are met:
"Subject" - "Contains" - "the names described above"
But yet still these things keep getting through!!!!!
Please someone help!!!! This is driving me MADDDDD!!!!

Try setting Junk filtering back to Training for a couple of days, then see if it correctly intercepts all junk mail. If it doesn't, mark the escapes as junk and let the system gather knowledge
Trash the junk messages or put them in the Junk folder first (maybe that adds to the learning curve? no idea, but it can't hurt) or erase them via Alt-apple-J

HAving successfully upgraded to v4 on my vista based laptop when I tried to upgrade to v4 on my XP based desktop, although the wizard appeared to work correctly it has left me on v3.6 - why?

On my XPbased desktop I downloaded the Firefox set-up 4.0, ran it and the wizard launced and appeared to work, and when I clicked "Finish" with the "Launch Firefox" button clicked, I was left on the old version , 3.6.

You probably have Firefox 4 on Windows XP, but Firefox 4 on Windows XP will be displaying the old style UI. The new interface is only default on Windows Vista and Windows 7. To get it on Windows XP you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.

In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in. Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

Connect it to your computer and restore it as a new device. Then chose what music you want to sync with it and do so just like your Touch does.

Windows 8 has not been officially released and is not supported.
Try google for possible solutions... otherwise, downgrade the OS back to Windows 7 or wait until a version of iTunes is released that supports Windows 8.

Upgraded to OS X Mavericks and now my Calendar doesn't work.

Yesterday upgraded my Mac to OS X Mavericks and since restarting every time I go to open my Calendar - it quits unexpectedly - and does not open at all.
Is this a known problem and how can I correct this - as I use this daily and it has all my future appointments in?

Shut down your computer and wait 10 seconds.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.

Norton 360 anti-phishing will not work on web searches now that I have upgraded to Firefox 4.0. It will however still work when I use Internet Explorer. I rely on the anti-phishing part of Norton 360 to tell me what internet sites to avoid. Does anyone have a solution? My computer runs Windows XP. Thanks!
