Upgraded to 10.8.3 on Mac mini and things have gone wrong
Ok I am using a late 2009 mac mini 4 gig computer and been on Mountain Lion 10.8.2 for some time with nothing going wrong with my computer at all. I decided to update to the new 10.8.3 and have left it a few days but nothing is resolving. Things have slowed down and getting the spinning wheel happening alot, screen freezes for a few seconds and then everything is fine then freezes again. My itunes keeps stopping in songs and starting again, it is like the computer is doing catch up or its thinking about things. It is getting me down and dont know what to do.
I have repaired disk permissions and ran clean my mac, everything was fine before I put this 10.8.3 on my mac. Can someone please tell me how do I put 10.8.2 back on ? I read where someone said on line that reinstall 10.8.3 but do not know how to do this.
If someone can help I would really appreciate this
Thank you very much Barney for your reply, I have got rid of my clean my mac as sometimes I thought it was more a hinderance than a cure and I went to disk utilities and clicked verify diak and within 5 minutes it says the following
Incorrect number of file hard links
Checking catalog hierarchy.
Checking extended attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume Mac Mini 10.8.3 was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the Command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility.
I really feel like I am in the deep end here, please can you explain to me what I do to get this sorted out step by step pleas ? as never had any problem with this computer since I bought it and dont really know what I am doing.
So I understand I need to press command and r key, once I have done that do I need to go back in to utilities and verify disk and repare permission, hope you can explain to me like Im stupid please :-)

My 3 external hd's are 500GB (total 1.5TB) and my Mac Mini is 500GB (Time Capsule is connected to this). I want to be able to have all the content from all these sources stored on my Time Capsule as if I only had 1 external drive. Is this possible? It is my understanding that when Time Machine backs up my Mac Mini I have to have my external drives connected since my Mac Mini does not have enough space on it to hold all the content on the exgternal hd's. I can only connect 1 external hard drive at a time and I want to get rid of them and consolidate.
And having to go back in time to search for files on 1 external hard drive and then back in time for the other external hard drive is not the most efficient thing to do. I would like it all in one place.

Bought a mac mini and it's the wrong machine for my needs

I bought the solid state drive mini mac - stupidly didn't realise that it had such low storage -
then I made my biggest mistake - I left it in the box for 2 months over xmas as I wanted plenty of time to make the transition from my old mac pro
Now I realise that the machine is no use - I'm a photographer with lots of large files and it's simply got hardly any storage - but mac won't replace for me with a different drive -
i understand that they have a retuurns deadline but sometimes it makes sense to bend the rules! All of my computers (since 1990) have been macs and I've spent a fortune with them over the years - I'm not even asking for a refund, just a replacement -

any ideas anyone??All you can do is call the Apple Store number and plead your case with them. Regardless of the fact it has never been out of the box, if they bend the return policy for someone after two months or more, then where do they draw they line? They cannot re-sell that device as new (illegal to do so), so they take a loss on it if they accept it back now. That is why the return policy is short, and in my experience, strict.
You should be able to get a good price for it yourself though, since you have the receipt so can justify the claim it is new, unused in the box to any buyer. Or give something like craig's list a try and suggest a swap of some kind?
Or how about using it, and just get a nice huge external storage, even a home RAID? The most you can possible get in a mini is 2x1TB, which for many uses these days, is still "small". For example, get a lightening 4GB G-technology box from the Apple store for $600.00, or one of the Promise lightening RAID boxes (although those are more expensive). -
New mac mini @ and " coming up on wrong keys
hi ive just bought my first mac, a mini.
im using a logitech wave keyboard which is supposed to work with macs and windows.
my issue is that the mac seems to think its a us keyboard ie the @ symbol is 2 buttons to the left of the enter key but when i do shift and the key it comes up with the speech marks symbol "
to use it i have to do shift and the 2 key (which is where the speech mark symbol is) there are a couple of other symbol keys in the wrong places but not so important.(i havent got the number symbol at all)
so is there any way of configuring the mac to recognise the keys in the right positions?

Transferred hard drive from Macbook to Mac mini and now have Disk Util prob
The problem is with Disk Utility. Basically, the DU window is just blank, that is, no hard drives show up in the left hand column. Also, none of the buttons at the top are clickable, though the menu bar drop down menus work. If I use Expose to push the window off the screen and then bring it back, then sometimes it shows the hard drive, but part of it's name will be cut off. Also, if the left hand side of the window is blank, but I right click somewhere there, it will behave as if I'm right clicking on the drive's name.
I also ran Disk Utility off the Leopard install disc and that's running fine. All the drives showed up fine and I repaired permissions and repaired the disks wherever possible. I also tried trashing the DU preference (plist) file, but that didn't help. I've restarted the computer multiple times and also tried from another account and still the same problems.
Like I mentioned, I'm not sure if this problem has anything to do with the mini or switching out the drive or if it was just coincidental with the drive exchange today. I can't remember the last time I tried using Disk Utility, but I'm sure it was some time ago.
The reason I was trying to open up DU was b/c my Time Machine backup drive is not being recognized by the mini as the backup (probably somehow it was tied to the Macbook), so I wanted to reformat it and start the Time Machine back ups all over again.
Anyway, I was wondering if you anybody had any suggestions. Maybe my Disk Utility program is somehow corrupted and I could reinstall just that program somehow? It almost seems kinda like a graphics issue since the window for DU kind of looks funny (things cut off, buttons disappear, etc.).
Update: I used Pacifist to extract the Disk Utility program from the Leopard Installer and it still has the same problem.I see. Thanks for the info. Sounds like I may have already tried what you suggested, as I mentioned in my original post that, "I've restarted the computer multiple times and also tried from another account and still the same problems."
However, I haven't created a new account and tried opening DU when logged into that account. Do you think that may make a difference?

I upgraded to Lion on my Mac mini and I'm wondering if I have to pay 29.99 to upgrade it on my Macbook pro also. Or since both computers are registered under the same account, is there a way to share the program?
You can download it from the mac app store again on the other computer free of charge. Just go to purchases in the mac app store on the other computer and log in with the same account you used to purchase lion. Then you should see lion listed as a purchase along with a gray box that says INSTALL.

I am exhausted just getting to the point of being allowed to ask my question. I recently decided to upgrade from an old PowerBook G4 that we have used for years, and am using now. I bought a new Mac Mini and a reconditioned Apple A1267 Monitor that was working beautifully when hooked to a slightly newer PowerBook in the store. Both the Mini and the monitor are plugged in, and attached to each other but I feel light a dolt. I cannot even figure out how to turn them on or even get a power light to come on. Can someone help me?
How is the Mini coonected to the momitor?

Yes, any version of PSE qualifies for upgrade pricing, but if you're in the US you might want to consider running the trial for now and waiting for the black friday specials, when the full version will be a lot less than the adobe upgrade price.

After upgrading to ios8 my iPad and iPhone could not sign in to iCloud. The error was either 'server error' or verification failed. I reset the password and verified I could log in via my Mac Mini and Macbook Air but I still get the error on my two iPads and iPhone that verification failed.
somehow, after delinking my apple(icloud) id with iphone, i erased my iphone to start with new, in hope that it should work now, but nothing seems to be working,
now my iphone is blank, i erased all data and after trying several times, its showing while setting up iphone.

Can I upgrade the logic board in the late 2012 Mac Mini? I have a dual core and I see 2.6 quads out there. Just wondering if it just works by swapping it out.

I was entertaining the idea of purchasing a Mac Mini and hooking it up to my TV. I have all the ports (HDMI) necesarry for this style of configuration. My only question is resolution. What should I be looking for with regards to resolution so that if I do hook up my Mac Mini to the TV, I get a clear picture...

I am thinking about going down the same line wanting to upgrade the resolution from my ATV2.
The Panasonic TV's HD resolution is 1920X1080. The Mac Mini on HDMI will output 1920X1200 and on Thunderbolt even higher so I do not see any reason for not getting a great picture. Hopefully someone on here has it setup and could just confirm the same.......... -
New mac mini and can't access some websites
Just upgraded to the new mac mini and am having trouble with loading some sites on safari, primarily social networking sites. Also hangs up on other pages when loading (trying to load google now etc). We have not tranferred anything from the old mini onto the new one yet so not sure what the problem is. Suggestions??

Hoping I can get some advice.
I have a 2010 Mac Mini and am thinking about upgrading to OSX Lion.
Although I know my Mac meets the system requirments (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM), I was wondering what the performace is like on with these specs.
I mainly use my Mac for iTunes, Safari, Twitter and iPhoto if that makes any difference.
Thanks!It works ok for me, I've got a 2010 mini (base model) and am using it as a server for web, iTunes and VPN. It handles lion fine, the only quibble is that being always on it heats up during the day a lot, more so than when I had Snow leopard installed. It's not to unacceptable levels though. But as dingy and beezelbubba say, Ram is cheap nowadays and if you've got the spare cash it's always worth it.
