macbook pro 1.83 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Hi,
Since no one knows how well your system install is, or how well it ran prior to installing the ram, try running the Combo Updater for 10.4.9......
Re-apply combo updater for various issues At the risk of playing like a broken record, we cannot overstate the value of re-applying the Mac OS X combination updater as a solvent for various issues apparent after using the standard, delta (adjacent version-to-version) updater to migrate to Mac OS X 10.4.9. The delta updater is automatically used by Software Update if your current system iteration is 10.4.8. Re-applying the combo updater overwrites potentially problem-causing files that were not replaced by the delta update. Download link is as follows:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html
Also, Repair Permissions after all the updates. Disk Utility is located in Applications-Utilities.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
Then I would like you to do a PMU reset, and PRAM reset. When resetting PRAM let it chime four or more times even though Apple says twice. Here are instructions....
Reset PRAM NVRAM...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Reset PMU....

Also, make sure that the nstalled ram is showing up correctly in System Profiler. Did you buy the correct spec ram?

It's anyone's guess. Startup and shutdown as well as application launches take longer in Lion than they did in Snow Leopard on the three Macs that I "upgraded," and I also see the spinning beach ball more often than I used to. Add to that the HDMI-related crashes on my Mac mini...
Quite frankly, I have yet to see where I have gained any advantages after upgrading to Lion, and I definititely have problems that I didn't have under Snow Leopard. Of course, all of it must be my fault, as Apple would never ever relase an upgrade that was less than perfect. -
I got a new Extreme N couple days ago. Installed it as the main base, with an older Airport Extreme and an Express as WDS stations.
My MacBook Pro does not have N hardware in it (grrrr, don't get me started . But my wife's MacBook does. I got the N because I really want a networked hard drive and figured we'll all have N at some point.
I understand that the network speed gets knocked down to G speed if there are non N clients on it. However, I swear it seems noticeably slower overall than my plain old G network.
Anyone else feeling like a mixed network is slower than plain G?
Also, does anyone have a sense for how security options impact peformance?
Thanks.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)I'm in a similar position, picking up the new AE this weekend, and form what I've read there's a better way, and here's what I'm going to do, maybe you'll want to try it:
-Setup the new AEx as an N-only network, ramped up.
-Connect either the older AEx or EXp via ethernet to it, and hang it off there in bridge mode.
-Try to put some distance between the two, at least 20 feet.
-You can set it up as a g-only network if you like, and it'll handle wireless communications from you, and the the other g base station, also offering it's services on your total network, but without decreasing the n-speed.
Hope it helps. For more info on setting this up, consult the 'Designing Airport Extreme-n Networks" manual, here (PDF). -
Problem: Voice is lower and tempo slower than recorded
I create a new project and slow the tempo to 95. Then I record a keyboard track. Good so far.
Then I create a new "real instrument" track. Sing along using the built in microphone. Select the track and deselect the Follow Tempo & Pitch checkbox (checking or unchecking this box has no effect on problem).
My problem is that my voice is lower and my pitch slower than I actually sang. Does any know what I am doing wrong or how to fix?
Thanks in advance-Seriously, this problem of the recording being slower and lower than the actual pitch is a major concern. This has been happening both with the internal microphone and with a usb audio interface. From my experience with other programs, I think it has to do with the sampling rate, something like 44100Hz vs 48000Hz etc., but I have no idea how to change that in Garageband; and particularly no idea how to change it (to salvage a decent take) after I have recorded. This problem has been very frustrating and has turned an otherwise user-friendly program into a nightmare.

New MacBook seems slower than it should be
I have had my new 2Ghz Core 2 with 2GB of ram for about a month or so now and I have to say I have not been that impressed with the speed of the machine. It boots, and shuts down like a blaze and once applications have been opened and closed once they too open and close like a blaze. With that said, applications just seem to take longer to open that first time than they do on my old PC with a single core 1.8Ghz Athlon.
Now this is my first mac so is this just me?
HelpFrom http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/index.php/NeoOfficeandAqua :
"So...is NeoOffice written in Java?
No.
NeoOffice is a Mac OS X native version of OpenOffice.org that uses small amounts of Java code for graphics drawing and configuration.
OpenOffice.org is written primarily in platform-agnostic C++. However, NeoOffice takes advantage of Mac OS X's advanced Java integration to tap into the Mac OS X look-and-feel. In other words, the little bits of Java in NeoOffice primarily have to do with operations that affect how the application appears to the user. The "guts" of the office suite are written in C++. (The code that makes up NeoOffice is 99% OpenOffice.org code shared among all OpenOffice.org platforms and 1% Mac OS X-specific code in Java, C++, C, and Objective-C.)"

Why is Firefox 4 and 5 slower than firefox 3 in Mac OS X Snow Leopard?
You told me Firefox 4 was fast, so I upgraded from the latest release of 3.xx. Immediately I started seeing a pinwheel mouse cursor when I had more than about 5 or 6 tabs showing (the pinwheel is the Mac OS X equivalent of the Windows hourglass, at least in Snow Leopard). I have the latest release of Firefox 5 and I'm still seeing pinwheels.
This happens several times a day, but not every time Firefox opens. It usually takes a few minutes for the pinwheel to show up. When it gets to where the pinwheel appears to be permanent, I Force Quit Firefox and restart it, and that helps for a while.Did you want me to re-post this in that forum or can one of the mods from here move it?

Super Slow Internet paying for 75/35 and its slower than dial up
I switched from optimum to Fios to get the faster internet. It worked for a few days and then its almost impossible to even send and email.
I have switched out the router, had a tech come out and replace the ONT. the techs dont know whats wrong, i asked for credit since I'm not getting what Im paying for. When I told them this, they said they dont have a problem on their side so no credit. I really dont care about the credit I JUST WANT WHAT I'M PAYING FOR.
After 7 PM at night it's even slower. It crawls so slow, the service just stops and i get disconnected. Tech support never heard of this happening, but now another service tech is coming out.
I see alot of other posts on the web with customers having the same problem, so Verizon must know there is a problem, but doesnt have a fix. Am I wasting my time trying to get the faster speed???
Has anyone gone through this and had it resolved???? I sometimes have to go my local starbucks and send emails and work.
Is this rediculous.....Well if they cannot fix it, bye bye Fios.Hubrisnxs wrote:

Are you wireless and getting these slow speeds or Hardwired and getting these slow speeds.
Try running the Network Diagnostic Tool (NDT) while hardwired and then make sure to click the details and post them here.
Tried the NDT link to get familiar with the tool in case I ever need it. Got the following message.

Firefox 23 loads slower than Internet Explorer 10
I was doing a speed test between Firefox 23 and Internet Explorer 10. If you visit http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Performance/PenguinMark/ all addons are disable on Firefox 23 and still slower than internet explorer. Why is that?
I don't know how to interpret my results. I got 1 in Firefox (no snow visible) and 8370 in IE (blizzard). Maybe I'm blocking something?

I upgraded to Mavericks and my 2008 iMac is slower than slow.
I have a 2008 IMac with 2GB Ram and 320GB HD. I have been upgrading through out and up to Mountain Lion never had any issues with the new OS systems. I upgraded to Mavericks about 2 months ago and the system continues to get slower and slower to where I really do not want to use it any longer. I spoke to someone at apple and they said from all of the upgrades there are programs taking up overhead that no longer are needed. If I bring the computer in they can help resolve the issue. The Apple store is about an hour drive from where I live. Seems to me that there must be an easy fix. I am not that computer literater and switched from Windows to Apple because of the reputation. Now all I do is watch that colored pinwheel on my screen more than anything else. Does anyone have a simple suggestion or do I need to take it to Apple and have to pay them to fix what they have caused.
RAM is pretty cheap these days. It will depend on the exact model of iMac you have. Just for a rough idea I took a look here Computer memory upgrades for Apple iMac (Early 2008) Desktop/PC from Crucial.com and found a 2 x 2GB upgrade kit for $72.
Most of the sites that sell RAM have instructional videos you can watch so you can get an idea of how difficult the installation might be for you. I've installed RAM on my MacBook Pro and it was not very difficult, and the iMac installation looks easier than that. But that would depend on your own comfort level with doing it. I've done a lot of this sort of installation over the years on my Macs so I'm very comfortable. But you do have to be careful, as the innards of a Mac can be very sensitive to static electricity, and it is possible to damage components if you don't follow directions carefully. But I would see if there are software issues that can be addressed first before you go investing in more RAM. -
Cheers everybody, new here...
I know, despite the specs published 8Gmax and 1333mhz, for the macbook pro late 2011 2.2G i7 processor
We can read here that its possible to go 16G ram, and also to 1600mhz.
1-have a mbp late 2011 2.2Ghz i7 (original config with 4G of ram 1333mhz)
2-last w/e have upgraded ram to 8G of 1600mhz found it seemed to work fine and it was fast
3-than upgraded with 16G of 1333mhz and find it much slower
Not sure of what to do from now :
wondering if it could be that 8G 1600mhz is optimal ?
I havent tried 16G of 1600mhz yet...Hi there !
Update:
Here are the last changes, as of this morning, of the configuration on my macbook pro late 2011 (2.2Ghz processor 15.4 screen).
Now have 16 G (2x8) of Kingston RAM 1600mhz (12800 1.35V) that and a brand new 256G samsung 850 pro SSD.
I KNOW...NOT QUITE THE SPECS SUPPLIED FROM APPLE/INTEL ... :/
I was able to trade the 16G 1333mhz purchased RAM for 16G of 1600mhz , so i gave a shot...
So im happy about the result and hope this will last and not fry in the next weeks...
Honestly It's running quite well and fast too.
Thanks everybody and good luck
p.s.
And Here, as promised, the answer from Intel :
joe_intelIl y a 3 jours
The document does not list all the processor models but it is the correct document for your processor family (http://ark.intel.com/products/family/59136/2nd-Generation-Intel-Core-i7-Processo rs#@Mobile). "1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb DDR3 DRAM technologies" refer to SDRAM density, it is not about capacity as it is usually expressed in GB (instead of Gb). SDRAM density depends on the total amount of memory chips on the stick and per side (SDRAM organization). Memory modules rated or sold as 1600 MHz may or may not run at 1600 MHz; this depends on the Serial Presence Detect. If the SPD is 1333 MHz it will run at 1333 MHz by default unless it is configured manually. If the memory runs at 1600 MHz (by SPD or set up manually), the memory controller might be running at a higher clock speed than what it was designed for, this may cause issues along the way.

I have erased and restored my 24 inch Intel iMac. I have upgraded to the last version of X os. My system is running WAY slower than it was before. Even opening windows seems to lag and the spinning wheel come up for everything. Every task is slow, even typing this! lol
Here are my specs:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.30f1
Any ideas would be helpful. Is this a hardware issue?
Thanks!Matt:
Thanks for the update. It is good to know that the maintenance procedures helped. Regular maintenance and a good backup are key to computer security. Gulliver's article has a suggested schedule. Dr. Smoke's FAQ on Backup and Recovery has excellent information and advice. I part company with him on his insistence on Retrospect, which I have found to be difficult to use. SuperDuper has been shown the best backup software in these tests.
If you usually leave your computer on or asleep, it is good practice to shut down and start up in Safe Mode occausionally. I do it about once weekly.
Good luck.
