Upgraded to BIOS V1.9 and lost 15% HD performance

Hi.
I upgraded my 865PE NEO2-S BIOS from V1.5 to V1.9 for enhancements in hyperthreading code & improved stability and using Sandra Sisoft have found:
small (2-6%) improvement in CPU benchmark (ALU & iSSE2 marks especially)
0.5% decrease in memory bandwidth
major 15%! decrease in C:\ hard drive file system benchmark
(from 31270 legacy/ 31438 native SATA mode to 26346 legacy/ 26399 native SATA)
This was after I had reset the new BIOS settings to match my original settings.
While the small changes in CPU & memory benchmarks may be within the margins of error, the large drop in HDD performance is very clearly real.
In the BIOS CMOS the disk is configured as AUTO. There is no setting to check if 32-bit/ block transfer is enabled. In WindowsXP device manager the IDE controller properties are:
primary channel device 0 - currently using DMA mode 2 (my CD-RW I think)
secondary channel device 0 - currently using DMA mode 5 (my SATA HD)
Does anyone know why my HDD performance has decreased with the V1.9 BIOS... has anybody else had this. Is this a function of the 'increased stability'? Are there any changes I can make to improve my HDD performance back to the level I was getting with V1.5.. apart from going backwards to V1.5?

I have tried using both legacy or native IDE modes (my HDD is a Seagate SATA 80Mb 7200rpm 8Mb cache)

For what it's worth (perhaps not too much!), I've seen significantly different results consistently reported by the Sandra File System benchmark for identical Seagate 160GB SATA drives. #1 was about 25% full and Sandra consistently reported around 31000. #2 was completely empty and Sandra consistently reported around 36000. Now, with both drives in a RAID 1 array, Sandra is reporting around 29000 for the combination. All of this was measured under BIOS 1.8.
I suspect some detailed analysis might show that the Sandra file system benchmark is sensitive to the amount and placement of data recorded on the drive.

Yes, if you purchased them from the App Store just redownload them. If you have the boxed set just reinstall them from the DVD.

Upgrade to 10.6.3 and lost all addresses but 1

I upgraded my OS from 10.4.11 to 10.6.3. I thought everything was fine until I opened my Address Book. Only one address appeared. I tried the suggestion made by Barney-15E to a similar post, but the results was two entries in the Address Book, mine and Apple's. I did back up my addressbook.data file before I made the OS upgrade. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know this topic is "Answered," but I have the same problem. I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard yesterday and lost all my addresses. I couldn't find a way to backup the address book, and hoped I wouldn't have problems.
Of course, losing all my addresses is about the only thing that went wrong (that I've discovered so far).
Am I out of luck, or is there a way to recover the data. I've tried the com.apple.whatever trick and the one here. No luck.
I've already started sending notices to people to recover as much info as possible - maybe this time I'll learn not to depend only on the computer.

I'm a sucker for updating everything when asked. When my Blackberry Torch 9800 asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the new BBM 7.0 in early December I thought, hey why not? After about a couple of hours and a reboot it was installed but when I opened up BBM all of my open chats (I never end a chat, does anybody?) vanished and I don't have a history of anything from anybody prior to December. I know people have reported that they have lost all of their contacts when they upgraded - I'm the complete opposite. I have all my bbm contacts but I lost all of my chat history. Some pretty important stuff to me. Any idea how to get this back or just a simple reason as to why??? Save chat history has never been changed from "never". Anybody in the same boat as me?

IPhone 4S - upgraded to 5.0.1 and lost settings options

I bought my first iPhone a couple weeks ago, an iPhone 4s with iOS 5.0. After I activated it, I went through all the settings and option like any guy with a new toy. I remember specifically that I was able to choose in Settings a) if, during a phone call, the phone would alert me to a new email or SMS with the tone I chose/vibrate, and b) if/when a reminder alert would happen after receiveing an email or SMS - I think the choices were 1/2/5/10/15 minutes. I set these options as I wanted them - alert during a call and a 2 minute reminder.
Within a week or so, I noticed I was having battery issues like a lot of other people and saw that Apple release 5.0.1. So I upgraded the software. All went well as far as I could tell. Unfortunately, this didn't solve the battery issues but actually caused some other issues. Now, the settings for the two items I mentioned above are gone. They are not in Settings at all and I really want to change them. I've searched online and every page I find for the repeat alert tells me to go in to an area of Settings that doesn't exist any more in my phone. So I thought, "OK I'll just downgrade back to 5.0 and that'll fix that." But research here and on the 'Net says that I can't do that.
So I feel like I'm stuck. I'm locked out (of sorts) of two options I really want to adjust in Settings and I didn't get a resolution for the battery drain. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's pretty disappointing; I like the phone, but I would love it if I could resolve this.

I'll go backwards with my response.
Having restored my phone and reset all settings, operated phone as a new phone, didn't sync anything back onto it, etc., I installed only Tune in radion and it didn't play. I wiggled the dock cable about -the volume indicator kept changing and for a brief moment sound played. But, not for long.
I am thinking that there's something wrong with the dock connector.
Previously I had:
Checked all settings, plus switched off Bluetooth - didn't work.
cleaned headphone socket and switch on side which mutes sound - didn't work.
Restored the phone, without restoring any of my backed up data. Tested phone as a new phone - didn't work. Tried:
      voice memo - this was fine
      changing ring tones - this was fine
      playing a song from iTunes store - not ok.
      As a New Phone, installed one App - Tune In Radio - no sound. Get speaker icon at bottom, but no indication of its setting. When I click on sound mute on/off switch at side of phone, above volume controls, I see volume level, but can't control it.
Reset all settings, so had to switch of bluetooth again and re-enter WIFI. No affect on sound.
I've tried the above with and without headphones.
So, after much time wasting, my Music App and Tune in radio apps don't work, but ringtones and voice memo works.

I tried exporting as a self-contained movie... I kept all markers. Then, I ran into thru compressor. When I imported into DVD SP 4, it could not import any markers. So, what's going on? I feel like I lost a lot of critical functionality.... I can not do without markers.

Upgraded to 1.4.1 and lost my Mogrify

Now when I try to export, LR says the LR/Mogrify plugin is missing or not properly installed. I can't find out how to either uninstall (I moved the directory but got the same error message) and reinstall or otherwise fix this.
Irritatingly, if I cancel Export, the next time I try to Export there is *nothing* there, not even the normal LR options. So, I exit LR and start again.

John, the old installation had the Imagemagick installation *without* any reference to mogrify. My directory was simply C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.3.9-Q16\ - there was no mogrify subfolder and yet it worked under LR 1.3.
So, I uninstalled 6.3.9 and installed 6.4.0. Still no mogrify subfolder and now when I run Export the mogrify option no longer exists, even in an error state. I checked your two references and have installed the plugin right where it should be: Modules. Nada. So I can't even reconstruct the old error message. (I looked in the other 'user' folders, Default and All, and there are no LR folders in their Applications folders, so it isn't a wrong user problem.)

Upgraded CPU with AE CC and I get less performance!

Hello everyone!
I recently started working with the CC suite.
My configuration is based on a 1366 motherboard and I have 24 GBs of RAM.
Now when I first started using AE, my I7 920 worked really well but I wanted to see how much faster rendering times I could get by upgrading to a i7 990x.
Well, it seems that my rendering times have nearly doubled since I installed my 990x!
If I don't use multiprocessing ON when rendering, one of my projects takes 16 minutes to render (used to take 7 and a half), and trying different settings under multiprocessing gives me variable results.
At best I can get close to my previous (i7 920) fastest rendering time. Which really makes no sense! The 990x has 6 cores and a higher frequency!
The template I am using as a test uses no weird plug ins, just prerendered flares and motion blur.
I also noticed that on my windows experience index, my CPU now has a score of 6.9. Now that can't be right?
My mobo is a EVGA SLI Classified and my GPU is a 660 GTX.
Any help is apreciated, whether it's 990x experience or multiprocessing settings for 6 cores and 24GBs of RAM.

More cores = increased parallelization = less effective cycles per core, meaning any operation that is only mildly multi-threaded or not at all will run on just one core and potentially feel/ be slower since the actual per core clock is determined by a multitude of factors that the processor and its features like TurboBoost are trying to figure out at runtime. As a result, it could decide to split tasks so unfavorably, it cycles through all cores every x number of clock cycles, but each core only then blips for a nanosecond. Or on the other hand it locks everything to just one core. Add to that whatever the operating system manages and you could effectively end up with only a fraction of your theoretical processing power on whatever is sued as the primary processing core. And if you didn't already guess it: Surprise, surprise, temporal operations in AE like calculating motion blur are mostly single-threaded because they require linear progression and evaluation of multiple states in a given slice of time. Likewise, you could be using specific CoDecs, your I/O performance could suck and a million otehr things could go wrong. This of course is a crude simplification, but you get the picture. Overall, just getting a new machine and expecting AE to do miracles is just slightly naive (no offense). There is simply too many things to consider and without actualyl knowing any hard facts like what comp settings, render settings and so on you actualyl use, nobody can realyl know. We could even go so far and just assume that you render to a slow external USB drive and then what you see would probably even be toatlly expected/ expectable.
