Upgraded to iPhoto 9.1.5 and got a beach ball!

I just ungraded to iPhoto 9.1.5 and now get a spinning beach ball when I attempt to open it. I've noticed a lot of issues with the new version. Can I easily revert to 9.1.3? I don't care to rebuild my library and lose things and don't have time to back-up right now! thanks for your help!

In most of these cases the problem is the Library, so reverting the app won't necessarily help.
Well rebuilding may not mean losing anything, and, of course, restoring from the back up you made before updating will be an added protection.
As to reverting, what back ups do you have?

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why? This happens only on a 5 year old iMac running 10.6.8. It is a recent developmemt. All other machines have no problen with the same card.

I click on the send feedback everytime it pops up with the force quit, so they'er getting it.
That sends a crash report. Its doubtful that these are ever seen by a human being, but more likely datamined. Sending feedback reaches an actual person.
My guess from yourdescription is that the portion of the OS (note, OS, not iPhoto) that manages the importing process is what's crashing.

I have been using Firefox for the Mac for years. My operating system is Snow Leopard. I have always updated Firefox as new versions became available. Two days ago when I attempted to launch Firefox I started getting the message "about session restore" and the spinning beach ball. The only thing I can do at this point is do a forced quit. The [about:sessionrestore] tab will show up when Firefox crashed or did not shut down properly. In the about:support page there is a section with a crash list. This report can help identify what the issue may have been caused by.
However since you are seeing it hang when the page tries to load, the sessionrestore.js file could also be corrupted. You may want to reset firefox to resolve this issue.

Its been more than 3 months now since I have been using FCP X and it has never done this before. The problem is that I have some projects to finish and I do not know what to do. How can I solve this problem?

As mishmumken said, you can try deleting your preference files . . .
If that fails, you probably have corrupt or incompatible media somewhere. Use finder to create new (temporary) folders and move your projects and events there before launching the application so that the events and projects are not found.
If FCP X loads OK, bring back the events one by one, relaunching FCP X each time, to try to isolate the offending material.

Upgraded to Iphoto 9.5.1 and lost pictures

Hi I upgraded to 9.5.1 tonight and have now lost all pictures back to April 13 (still retaining everything prior). Can anyone please help this is causing me and my family alot of distress as we have holiday pictures missing now?

Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

IPhoto 09 and 11: spinning beach ball of death when accessing contextual menu.

Whenever I right click to access the contextual menu, iPhoto gives me the spinning beach ball of death. This happens only when I right click on a photo from the events in the iPhoto library. It freezes for a few seconds then the spinning ball appears.
This happened in iPhoto 09 so I upgraded to iPhoto 11, but the problem is still there. I have deleted all files from the previous version before installing iPhoto 11 but it didn't solve the problem. Those files were application support files, cache and preferences all in the library. I have even created a new library in iPhoto 11 and imported a few photos just to test it out, but the problem persisted. I just can't right click without having that spinning beach ball of death appear. The only solution is to force quit the application. This is very frustrating and I would appreciate any help.

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/

3 - try to launch iPhoto and check for any improvements.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

IPhoto causing 20-30 second hangs - spinning beach ball and music stops

Very often when I browse through my pictures, suddenly iPhoto will freeze, the beach ball appears and if I attempt to use other programs the entire system freezes. If I'm playing music in iTunes, it will pause and then restart after 20-30 secs when iPhoto and the rest of the system suddenly works again as if nothing happened.
Anyone else notices this? It happens as I said quite often, and I can provoke it by flipping through pictures very fast (for instance by holding down the left or right arrow on the keyboard).
I noticed that this message often appears in the console when I initiate iPhoto:

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Since i updated latest version 6.0.2, it keeps getting stuck and goes really slow and the coloured beach ball spins for ages, so all i can do is force-quit - how can i install the version before this version again?

On a Mac Book pro - running 10.6.8
Firefox was fine until the last couple of updates that happened without my consent (?).
Suddenly there were weird errors and crashes of Flash
and slow loading pages. Now it's gone into rubbish mode where
the beach ball spins at the slightest fast type or double-click and then all i can do is force quit.
It's as if it can't cope with anything anymore.
How do i uninstall and keep my bookmarks etc and re-install an earlier version of it as it was before it got updated?

So i had tried it in safe mode, and thought that it was still in SMode but then realized that that stopped once i had closed it and reopened in aft/eve/ last night and started up again today, also. So i just tried it again in safe mode and it seems to not be doing it...but then it's so random anyway. But if i'm in safe mode like this there is no toolbar but i guess that's cool if that is what is making it sluggy and beach ball-y. But how do i stay in safe mode all the time? And if it is only in safe mode then does that mean i can't have the 3 addons i use - (java, QT, Flash- all the other vid things like divx etc are 'disabled' ) I thought those add ons were necessary to play/read things on the net?? Forgive my ignorance in this matter. But saying that, when it was going wrong, and i was clicking on audio links sometimes in the 'blank white page scenario' a popup would come and tell me that i would need ' QuickTime to play this track' and i would click 'continue' and it would link me to Apple to get QT...but i already have QT installed in my MBPro so i thought that was a bit weird...! when i just tried it now in safe mode it went straight to the audio link white page with player in the middle and played the track. But then as i said, it was a bit random before so i don't know if this was just a time when it worked...
Anyway, what do you think about my questions on operating in safe mode...should i have to do that?! i'll stay in Safemode until i hear back from you and see how well it performs.

Enough RAM, CPU, Disk space and yet the Beach Ball rolls on

2 TB internal with 1.4 TB available
Two WD external hard drives
No app Not Responding
No huge draw on CPU cycles
Permissions repaired
Disk defragged
AND YET, I open up a Word document (not just a specific one), or I start up an application, or I change a Calendar date...
And I get a Spinning Beach Ball for several seconds (a lifetime)
What gives!?!?
This is embarrassing.
This can't be right!

When you checked that, did you change Activity Monitor's "Show" option from its default of "My Processes" to "All Processes?"
If not, then you would not see where the big hitters in the over-eating of processor cycles reside.
If you did have AM thus set, then what you decribe sounds like you may have installed a third-party anti-virus/internet security software package or one of those awful "I'll clean you Mac" programs.
Try with the WD drives disconnected. WD bare drives are great but their enclosures are abysmal. I had one on both a PowerPC G4 tower and my i7 iMac and it dragged down the performance of the computer. I ripped open the cheap WD enclosure and installed the perfectly good bare drive in a enclosure from OWS and it works flawlessly without making my computer feel like its got syrup dripping inside.
I don't see an iMac with a 3.8Ghz i7 processor. What does "About this Mac" in your Apple menu say about your processor?
If there are no AV or cleaning apps installed and you comptuer is still in warranty, I'd think about making an appointment with the Apple Genius bar.

I am having trouble with a LaCie 526 monitor working with my new Mac Pro. When I boot up, I see the sign-in screen for a second, then it disappears, reappears with some of the screen pixelated and the spinning beach ball -- and then freezes. Any thoughts

The LaCie is connected via DVI to thunderbolt adapter. It had been working, and then when I switched off the computer and restarted several days later, I see the signon screen flash quickly, followed by nothing, followed by the signon screen and spinning beach ball and it simply freezes. When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Itunes is frozen and the spinning beach ball stays on. i can force quite ok but on opening again it does the same thing. HELP

I have the Mac os 10.6.3. Its been great but the last 4 days iTunes has frozen up. On opening iTunes spinning beach ball starts up and the only way to close iTunes is to force quite. I have nothing plugged into iTunes and i have scand iTunes with mackeeper but nothing. I then uninstalled iTunes and started fresh//./././.// NO GOOD, keeps doing the same thing. HELP

Trying to capture DV material, log and capture spinning beach ball

I have not worked in DV for quite awhile. I am trying to just capture a few minutes and the log and capture window gives me the beach ball of death when I hit capture now. If I hit play all seems fine, but try and capture and the beach ball shows up. What gives?
