Upgraded to iTunes 10.5 and now iPad will not back up

I upgraded to itunes 10.5 so I could install iOS5 on my iPad.  The upgrade to iTunes 10.5 went fine but now itunes doesn't recognize my iPad and getting lots of different error messages on why it can't back up......i've tried to reboot my pc which runs XP, hard boot of iPad, started the Mobile Service Device and nothing seems to fix the problem.   Anybody have this experience and able to fix?   I notice I have several apps to update on my iPad as well and it won't do so as it says they are not compatible.   Not sure if this is related.

Some of us have our enture itunes library backed up on CD/DVD - what a waste of time and effort as now presumably you can't use these discs to restore itunes on a new computer! WHY NOT APPLE?
Very unimpressed with itunes 10.5/ios5 - wifi tracking apps have been removed from the store (and won't function in ios5), it's impossible to sync photos (I have spent a whole day trying to sync my iphone 3GS with itines 10.5) to no avail and now, no CD backup facility.
I have never had problems with apple before - I was thinking of upgrading my whole system from PC to Mac but now I am doubtful - if this is typical of apple software, I will stay with windows!

Try a hard reset and go from there. You might try a manual install (using DFU Mode), as outlined in the link below.

  • I installed itunes 10.5 and now it will not recognize my phone-

I installed itunes 10.5 last week and now when I plug in my iPhone it will not recognize it.  I've gone through all the recommended troubleshooting through Apple's site but it seems to make my computer worse.  I re-installed itunes 3 times and it still will not find my phone when I plug it in.  When I go to my device manager my "Apply Mobile Device USB Driver" has the little Yellow Triangle with the exclamation point it in- I checked for and updated driver but it says I have the most current one.  I am running Windows Vista and itunes was working fine before I took the upgrade.  Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!

I spent last week looking for a solution to that little yellow "!" needle haystack....
It is probably buried where nothing can touch or change it other than what I resorted to and would have saved time, clean install after I made sure to have two backup sets: Windows Easy Transfer plus Paragon clone OS and partitions to drive. Had to spend a full day reinstalling, updates, etc. Careful not to bring back any prefs or data that might be corrupt or wrong.
10.5 and iOS 5 on new iPod 4G works much better though and as they should and no issues like I had with AMS or other services or needing to restart first before launching iTunes.

  • I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to 10.0.2 and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version and once again nothing.

I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to the newest verison of firefox and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. I then made sure it could get through my firewall and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version hoping that would do it and once again nothing. It will not open at all. Please help - is there a live chat or a number to talk to someone at Firefox?

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and '''Run as administrator''' to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any '''Mozilla''', '''Mozilla Firefox''' or '''Firefox''' from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the '''Run''' box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the '''VirtualStore''' folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

  • Itunes 10.6.0.40 ipad will not back up to computer - only to icloud

I just updated iTunes to 10.6.0.40, and now it will no longer back up to my computer - only to iCloud.
Up until now, I've always backed up my iPad2 to BOTH the iCloud and to my computer.
Now - I can sync to iCloud successfully, but when I then pick the "Back Up To My Computer" radio button, the SYNC button changes to two buttons, REVERT or APPLY.
Pushing EITHER button has the instant effect of MOVING the selection from "Back Up To My Computer" BACK to "Back Up To iCloud".
No matter what I do, I can't keep the radio button selected for "Back Up To My Computer" - every action I take, anything I try - it "bounces" back to "Back Up To iCloud".
I actually want to back up to my computer first, and use iCloud only as a secondary backup, but now I CANNOT back up to the computer AT ALL.
I am amazed that no one seems to have reported this issue yet, but it actually seems like I am the first, from what I can tell.
Please advise - nothing disturbed the install, it ran fine, iTunes opened successfully, the music part of it seems fine - but the ipad backup is not working correctly anymore.
In the previous version, I could switch back and forth between the two, backup to iCloud, then switch over, and back up to my computer, then switch back and back up to iCloud again - no problem.
    THANKS!
    Dave

I am having the same problem

  • Updated to iTunes 10 and now iPad will not sync on PC Windows XP Pro

I updated to iTunes 10 earlier today and now my iPad does not register at all in iTunes Devices pane when I try to sync it. The iPhone 4 syncs perfectly. Do I just wait for Apple to sort out the problem with iTunes 10 or what do I do please.
    THANK YOU.

I had the same problem after upgrading to iTunes 10, but I'm running Windows 7. The iPad was being detected by Windows but not by iTunes. My iPod would sync with iTunes OK. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes alone did not fix it. I fixed it by performing the following steps:
    1. Uninstalled the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver from the Universal Serial Bus controllers section in Windows Device Manager (this will only be displayed if the iPad is connected to the PC). I also selected the option to 'delete the driver software for this device' - this may be different in XP, I cannot remember.
    2. Uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour and Quicktime (basically, ANYTHING Apple related) using Windows Add/Remove Programs. Your iTunes library files and media SHOULD be unaffected by uninstalling but I made a backup of mine first JUST IN CASE. They are usually located in your 'My Music\iTunes' folder.
    3. Made sure 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple' and 'C:\Program Files\iTunes' had been deleted by the uninstall routines. I also deleted the Apple related folders in my local profile. On XP these will be in 'C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data' (you may have to enable to option to view hidden files and folders). The folders I deleted were called 'Apple' and 'Apple Computer'. Renaming them will have the same effect if you are nervous about deleting them.
    4. Rebooted the PC (why not, eh?).
    5. Downloaded the iTunes installation file (iTunesSetup.exe) from the Apple website. Installed it.
    6. Launched iTunes, all my music, podcast subscriptions etc were preserved so I did not have to use my backup from Step 2. Connected my iPad. The device driver was installed by Windows, the iPad appeared in iTunes and I was able to sync OK.
I can't say for sure which of the steps above was key to fixing the problem, but hopefully if you do the same it will resolve your problem. Good luck!

  • I upgraded firefox on windows 7 and now it will not load

I love Firefox when it works. I receive pop up messages to upgrade, upgrade and finally when I can't take it any more I upgrade and then BAM! It doesn't work; won't load nothing - nada. NO Firefox on my Windows 7 desktop.
    1. How do I turn off the automatc update or messages to update.
    2. How do I get Firefox back on my Windows 7 machine.
    Thanks.

  • I have iTunes in Windows and now it will not connect to store! Tried re-installing iTunes, checked firewall but still no luck! Any ideas?

I have received a message - "i Tunes could not connect to the itunes store. An unknown error occurred (-3212)" Any ideas as to how to rectify? I have re=installed i Tunes onto my laptop and checked firewall for Apple/i Tunes acces!!

    Hey glennboyes,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with connecting to the iTunes Store. The following articles may help to resolve your issue:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297
    "Error 3000" through "3999"
Alerts with codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try removing the proxy settings, or using a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • My Itunes was uninstalled and now it will not reinstall

I have emptied my temp folder, removed all of itunes components and tried to download several times.  It always says, after I download, that it is untrusted. When I click run, nothing happens.

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Upgraded Imac to OSX Mavericks and now imac will not boot

Any help on how to go back to previous OS or solve for this?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

I see.  If you go to Settings>General>About>Name, that is the current name of your phone.  The backup bearing that name should be the more recent one, and therefore the one you want to keep.  I would delete the other one (presumably the one set up by Best Buy under your real name, assuming you changed it later), then see if that gives you enough space to back up again.
If it still reporting insufficient storage, use this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4847 to try to determine what's taking up all your room.  In them meantime, you can perform a manual backup on your computer so your have a current one while you're troubleshooting this.  To do so, connect your phone to iTunes, then right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and select Back Up.

  • Upgraded to itunes 11.4 and now when i connect my iphone 4s..itunes crash!!!!

upgraded to itunes 11.4 and now when i connect my iphone 4s..itunes crash!!!!when the iPhone is disconnected iTunes is working properly....
    please help me!!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
