Upgraded to iTunes 8, iPod no longer recognized

Hello!
I have a HP laptop running Vista Home and everything was working fine until I upgraded to version 8 of iTunes. Now, my laptop does not even recognize my iPod at ALL, not in Explorer, My Computer or iTunes.
USB ports are working fine, I have an external hard drive that works perfectly, as well as a USB printer that works perfectly. Again, iPod synced fine up until I upgraded to iTunes 8.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, still nothing.
Any help, please?!??
THANKS!
EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention I have a 160 GB iPod Classic...

I have a Dell and since I have gotten 8.0 my ipod won't sync (it was functioning perfectly before). Well, actually it starts to sync and then the whole itunes program crashes. Also, when I go to the help icon and test everything the ipod is not found (even if it is syncing). However, the ipod is found under device manager. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled it from there. Also, when I try to restore my ipod itunes and my whole computer freezes. I've been on the phone with technical support, and still my ipod won't sync. Itunes itself runs fine if my ipod isn't plugged in.

I'm still able to charge it successfully but even putting it into disk mode, computer will flat out not recognize it. I've tried borrowing a friends working cord and same issue.
Any clue what else I can try before taking it in? I've already done the 5r routine multiple times and have tried every usb on both my current comp AND my old one that it'd previously worked on fine.

  • IPod no longer recognized by MacBook Air

Yesterday I purchased a refurbished iPod Photo. It worked fine yesterday - I synced it with iTunes and was able to place 20g of music on it. Today I plugged it in, and it is no longer recognized by my computer, but still charges. I tried resetting both computer and iPod. I reinstalled iTunes. When I forced my iPod in to disk mode, it did not recognize that it was plugged in to my computer - instead of displaying "Do Not Disconnect" it stated "OK to Disconnect". I tried it on two different computers, and had the same issue.

  • New iTunes update, iPod no longer shows up in iTunes

Got a update request from iTunes today and accepted the upgrade for iTunes and QuickTime.  I ignored the warning from Microsoft that this was not approved for XP (stupid, but I doubted that Apple would trash my connection).  After the install, I no longer have my iPod show up in my iTunes.  I have done a System Restore, deleted iTunes and reinstalled, deleted iTunes and manually removed all left over folders and then reinstalled; followed all of the troubleshooting items at http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/ and lots of other things over the past 6 hours.  I am really tired now.  Does anyone have any help.  Note that the iPod charges through the ISB port, the wi-fi worksm the apps and music and library items show up in iTunes.  The only thing that is missing is the iPod showing up in iTunes so that I cannot sync.  Also when I open iTunes I get this message:
      Warning!
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs,
      you need to reinstall iTunes.
    I need to sync. Help.

Good news now.  After two more uninstall/reinstalls I now get my iPod showing up in iTunes.  I still get the:
    Warning!
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs,
      you need to reinstall iTunes.
box every time I open iTunes, but this is an annoyance, not a disaster.  Still any help in stopping this pop-up would be appreciated.  Also I have sucessfully imported a CD to iTunes, so I am not sure what the warning is about.  (I do not have a downloaded song to try to burn to a CD however).

  • IPOD no longer recognized by iTunes after newest upgrade!!!!

I just upgraded to the latest version of iTunes. My IPOD is now not recognized by Itunes. I get this message: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software". I followed the instructions and I also downloaded the latest iPod updater software. Restarted the computer only to get the same message - OVER AND OVER.
I have never had this issue prior to downloading this newest upgrade. A patch or resolution is needed ASAP to fix this issue. People invest TOO MUCH money in these products for something silly like this to occur.

However, iTunes now want's me to update to a new version (1.4)!?! Should I do this or wait until Apple fixes 1.5?
    hi John!
hmmm. do you mean itunes 5.0.1.4? what version of itunes are you running currently? (just to be on the safe side, let's head into your itunes "help > about" and check to see precisely which version number scrolls up from the bottom.)

  • Video IPOD no longer recognized by Itunes and wont Update

This is a long complicated issue. My Ipod has been working flawlessly until 2 weeks ago. Someone tried to plug it up to their computer to charge it and it wiped out my library and added their library. At first i was thinking no big deal, i will just reconnect it with my computer and it will load my library back on. However once connected to my computer it is not recognized by itunes. So i did a reset , which seemed to be working great and it started "updating" about 80% through that process it gave me an error message that says " This disc can not be written to or written from" now I have no idea why it would say that? and although it seems completely wiped out and useless, it still shows that much memeory is missing in the "about ipod" screen on the ipod. So i know the information is there somewhere , somehow?... Anyway I dont know what to do, Does anybody have any suggestions?
Oh and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Itunes program to make sure it is up to date. WOuld adding new songs to my library have caused this problem?

    1. Try Resetting the iPod. Hold Select and Menu for 6-10 seconds - until you see the Apple Symbol.
    2. Use iPod Updater to restore your iPod to factory settings.
See if those two steps clear up your problem.

  • IPOD NO LONGER RECOGNIZED BY ITUNES - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When connecting to I-Tunes my Ipod now appears only as 'IPOD'
The Windows 'Autoplay' box appears on the left hand side of my screen.
Everything then freezes for a short while then an error message says that I-Tunes has detected an Ipod that is corrupted.
My Ipod itself is fine so I'm reluctant to restore if that will not solve the problem.
Is something to do with an automatic software update?
    Please help......................

  • Ipod no longer recognized by itunes

I have gone through the process of resetting the ipod as per the apple help website. "Toggle hold switch, hold menu and select button till apple logo appears, then try and put it into disk mode.. it pops up on my desktop in diskmode but it still wont get recognized by iTunes. And when I tried to just drag a folder of music to the ipod in disk mode, the space gets taken up but there is no sign of it on the actual ipod.
I am not sure what else to do to get this ipod restored and dump new songs on it. If possible I would like to bypass using iTunes to load songs. any help is appreciated. THNAKS!
NOTE: it charges while its plugged in, it just has no recognition by iTunes.  I am using OS Mavericks as well.
It also seems as though the space is all occupied on the ipod but nothing new has shown up.  Can I just erase this ipod and start fresh?  I am all updated on iTunes as well..
TL;DR:  Ipod charges/shows up in disk mode; not recognized in iTunes on Mavericks or 10.6

  • Error during OS 4.2 update; Ipod no longer recognized by windows or itunes;

I've had my 3G 8gb since last Feb and never updated the OS (3.1.3). Yesterday I tried updating to 4.2. (OS: Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium; iTunes: 10.1.1.4) There was an error (unfortunately did not make a note of). Now my ipod touch is stuck in "Recovery Mode" and cannot be seen by Windows or iTunes. Windows does detect new hardware but when I browse for the drivers, I get the error "Could not find driver software" after I pointed exactly where it was located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support and C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. I've tried removing all Apple software from my computer and then reinstalling iTunes but I get the same results. I don't know what else to try. Any ideas? Thanks!

I found a solution last night through http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538. But thank you for trying. The worst part was that I was doing the right thing all along but I think there is a bug in Vista (or I don't understand why I couldn't do it the way I was). On the window that appears after I clicked "Browse my computer for driver software", there are 2 options. The first says "Browse for driver software on your computer" which has an edit box under it and a "Browse" button next to the edit box which allows you to pick the parent directory that driver is in. The second option says "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". I knew where the drivers were so I was doing option one and it would not work (many repeated attempts after re-installing iTunes, etc.) - VERY FRUSTRATING. But now I'm up and running!!!

  • ITunes 11.0.2 suddenly started freezing (more than usual) and ipod no longer recognized.

It runs in safe mode, but will still not recognize the ipod.

    First I would try this

Next remove the Apple software using the instruction above and install a previous version. You can Google to find the previous versions

  • Ipod no longer recognized, software is bugged help plz!!!

I cant stand Itunes or any I-program anymore. Ive had my ipod forever, with alot of songs (2000 of them). Recently my Itunes tells me I need to update software, so I do so. I then had Itunes 6, and Ipod update 2006-01-10. Biggest mistake EVER.
    1. My ipod starts functioning funny with many glitches
    2. Next time I plugged it in, it told me that it must be updated to function properly, then it realized it IS updated, THEN it restores my Ipod by itself, without me pressing anything.
    3. THEN, the next time I try to plug in my Ipod, its not being read by Itunes and the Updater freezes if I open it. My 2000 songs have vanished (worst part).
Basically, my pc is treating my Ipod as if its not plugged, my songs are gone, and I dont want to uninstall everything and start fresh without doing it right (while not downloading this glitch version).
-If any Apple workers do care enough to read this, GO AWAY CUZ IM REALLY UPSET AT ALL OF YOU TECHNICIAN IDIOTS AND ID MAKE YOU PAY ME MONEY FOR MY SONGS IF I COULD
-If any helpful knowledgable apple forumers can help me, please do so, this is killing me.
    Thank you!

  • One iPod, two PCs.  iPod no longer recognized on on PC after latest updater

I have a 4G 20GB with color display that I sync to 2 PCs; my DT at home where my music library is, and my office laptop where I manage Podcasts.
About 2 weeks ago, after updating to iT6 (6.0.3) and the 1-10 updater, my laptop stopped recognizing my iPod - I get the message "USB Device not recognized". My DT sees the iPod fine.
I have tried all the R's twice, no help. Restoring and re-loading the library allowed it to sync 2-3 times, but now I am back where I started. I cannot afford the time to re-load 18GB every time I want updated podcasts on my iPod, and do not want to use my dt (actually my kid's PC) every time I want to get new podcasts.
    Any suggestions? TIA

That's what i was afraid of...but that's extra work and doesn't allow you to jump to a certain track.
Thanks for the response- sounds like I either have to settle for keeping the iPod i've got and never putting new music onto it...or break down and spend the money on a new one. This one is barely past its warranty, tho, so it's tough to spend that kind of $ yet again for another iPod that won't last very long.
Does anyone know of any 3rd party repair people who can fix iPod touch?

  • 3G firewire iPod no longer recognized

I've had my 3G iPod for 4 years and have been successfully connecting via firewire dock to my Mac about once a week ... until 2 days ago. Now when I doc my iPod, not only is it not seen by my Mac, but my other firewire devices (iSight, external harddrive) lose there connection to my Mac until I remove the iPod from it's doc. I have 2 different Macs (Intel and G4) 2 different docs and 2 different cables. All permutations fail, the only constant is the iPod. I went under settings and reset the iPod, that didn't help. The iPod still plays and still charges.
    Any ideas?

  • ITunes and Ipod no longer recognize or has deleted my library

Hello all. I am coming here for help from the pros, so be gentle!
This morning, I opened my ipod to see that many of my playlists were missing and the songs from those playlists were gone. In addition, when connecting to the computer, the same problem occurs. I don't know exactly how many songs were lost, but it is quite troubling. I tried a reset and that did not help. It was working fine yesterday and even last night while playing Starcraft.
Since Starcraft is an older game, my second screen was not working properly. itunes made several prompts and it looked liekit was scannign my ipod in the usual update fashion. Once I finished the mission, I then shut down my computer as it seemed liek the ipod was doen updating.
    Any ideas?

Hi, Linda from Folsom. Thanks for the message.
While I do run iolo system mechanic, my issues did not start until *after* I downloaded iTunes 10.5.2.
On the same date I updated iTunes, I also downloaded a Java update. I did these one after the other so didn't now which updated started the issue.
I later found that my issues were also related to iCloud usage for syncing, which I resolved this week by eliminating iCloud from my life (other than backing up my iPhone).
I posted something in the community about how I undid everything iCloud did to my Outlook, but my solution is only for those who no longer want to use iCloud with Outlook.
That's an interesting point about the iolo system because I didn't have any issues at all with it (until I updated iTunes).
I had a very similar system setup at the time as you do:
    iPhone 4 with OS 5.0.1
    Outlook 2007 (now I have 2010 version)
    iTunes 10.5.2
Windows 7 home premium (now I have the Windows 7 ultimate version).
I will be interested to hear if your iolo system caused some issues as I do like using it for clean up on my hard drive. When I couldn't use Outlook, I went to "JustAsk.com" and paid the small fee to find out that you can repair office from the control panel programs list; this is what solved my issue.
If you haven't tried it, it's pretty easy:
    Open Control Panel
    Select Programs
Find Office on the programs list
    RIGHT click on it
    Select repair
    Windows installer runs, then restart
After I did that, iPhone could see Outlook again. That could be where the registry issue is happening with iolo.
    Hope this is helpful,
    Cecilia
