Upgraded to iTunes 9 Always wants to restore

I have a 3G iPod, Windows XP. The system rrepeatedly wants me to restorew the iPod. I have to re-boot the system with the iPod attachewd to get it to sync. Version 9 has too many problems for me. How can I get iTunes 8?
Also, I must sync everything. I can't just load some music. If I do, it slips into the restore, restore, restore...mode. iTunes 9 seems to have a whole lot of problems.

Why was everything ok when I had the older version of iTunes and now since the upgrade to 9, would I have to sign up on some other thing, (openDNS)?
Sorry, forgot to answer that in my previous reply.
The difference with the iTunes 9.0.x versions, is that their Store interface is now WebKit-based (using the same sort of technology as the Safari web browser or the Google Chrome web browser). Every bit of album artwork you see in the Store with a 9.0.x (or in your case, not seeing in the Store) is a placeholder for a weblink, and if something interferes with your access to certain parts of the web (for example, the internet filters in an OpenDNS account), you can get that weird "no pictures" effect in the Store.
So, some things that used to interfere with store connections on previous versions of iTunes don't now with the 9.0.x versions ... and some things that didn't now do. Unfortunately, you seem to be getting caught with something that "now does."
One additional thing we could check on: In your iTunes, go "Help > Run diagnostics", uncheck all boxes except for "Network connectivity tests" and click "Next" and "Next" again.
Do any red lights show up for you in the diagnostics? If so, click on the "Help" next to the red light entry and try working through the documentation that comes up.

    See if plcing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
    Next try DFU mode.

    Go further down on the same screen and look for more information. (I do not remember the exact words) Upon clicking on it a new page opens in Safari for instructions, including  opening Terminal under Utilities, etc. Then you will have to add # and a space to one of the lines. Then save and restart the computer. It worked for me. I am sorry I do not remember the exact sequence of these steps. Hope this helps you.

    iPhone 4 with iOS 5, running iTunes 10.5 (Windows 7). 
    Every time I sync my phone, wifi or usb, iTunes wants to restore it.  I've tried restarting both the phone and PC--no luck.  So I went ahead and let iTunes restore my phone, hoping it would fix this problem.  That didn't work either.  Currently I'm trying another restore, but not hopeful for better results.

    When I plug it into iTunes, I get an eror message saying:
    "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Go to the Summary tap in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings."
    I have restored my iPod like the message says, but once it is done restoring and I have unplugged it from the computer, the next time I plug it in the message comes up again. I have tried reseting both from backup and as a new iPod.

    Apparently it does need to be restored because that is what it is requesting. You will need to restore it as New or from a recent backup if you made one.

    Backups are only used for restoring iPhones via iTunes.
    If you desire to go about another method for extracting data from a backup, use google to find out how (if possible) to make that happen.

  • HT201210 Ipod told me to connect to itunes because it was disabled. Now it's telling me to put in the passcode before I can use it with iTunes. I just want to restore my ipod. I have also tried recovery mode.

    I forgot my password to my ipod touch and locked it out. It told me to connect to iTunes and I did. I put it in recoery mode and started the 5 hour download of the restoring process. I tried it many times it always ends up stopping and an error occurs. Now iTunes is telling me I have to put in my password for my ipod before iTunes can use it and recognize it. But my ipod is still telling me to connect it to iTunes and I just want to restore my ipod.

    Try Recovery Mode a few more times.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
    3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
    Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

    There are no contacts in itunes.
    Your contact should be on your computer in whatever program you have selected to sync.  Just sync them to the new one.

    Changing the itunes account on nthe iphone is covered there as is restoring the iphone as new or from backup.

    As I said, the backup that iTunes makes does not include apps (and music) if those items where not in the iTunes library on the computer on which you restored they will not be on the iPod.

    thanks. somehow after restoring it, ipod on my phone had another option to download them onto my phone (even though they would play so no idea) but then it allowed me to swipe the songs to delete them so they are finally gone from my phone!!!
