Upgraded to itunes plus, but still got some DRM tracks

Hello,
I upgraded to itunes plus a little while ago and then sufferred a hard drive crash. I've restored my purchased items from my ipod, however they were the pre-upgraded DRM versions. iTunes is saying that all my purchases are DRM free and I can't find another way of removing the DRM.
Thanks in advance.
Damion.

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of the upgraded tracks (which were a completely new download, not just a DRM "unlock"), and don't have them on an iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks or live with the older 128kbps DRM version.
If you have your tracks backed up, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.

As long as you don't need all the bells and whistles of the iTunes Store such as Ping, and don't need to sync an iOS device running iOS 4.x, then iTunes 9.2.1 should work for you. It should be available via Software Update, but if not, you can still get it here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056
but it would be best to upgrade your Mac to Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, since it's probable that eventually the iTunes Store will no longer support iTunes 9.x.
    Regards.
P.S. Mac OS X 10.4 was discontinued three and a half years ago, so yes, it's getting rather long in the tooth. Cheers.

I am rebuilding my iTunes library, but still have all the old content on my iPod Classic.  I have just download some songs from the iStore and want to add them to the iPod, BUT when I try to sync it asks if I want to delete all content from the iPod and add only the material that I have just downloaded from the Store.  I do not want to lose my old content, because it is very extensive.

You are trying to sync to other than the one iTunes library you can sync to. You can copy music from multiple library/computer if you use the manual method of syncing. That method is described here
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
If you want to make this computer/iTunes library your syncing computer/library you have to restore the iPod on this computer/library. Restoring erases the iPod.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
To copy other music to the computer see:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities

  • HT201272 There are purchased items that are no longer showing in the iTunes store because I upgraded to iTunes Plus format.  What can I do? My hard drive crashed and lost a great deal of my music and it's not showing in iCloud.

What can I do to see items that I have purchased but upgraded to iTunes Plus? They are not showing in my iCloud as purchased, but I still can see the original protected versions from old backups. The original was downloaded with my iMac but the computers hard drive has burned out and needs to be replaced.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply although I'm not too happy to hear it.  What's awesome about the cloud is no longer having to keep up with any physical media.  The promise of that is realized with everything else (my work, music, books) besides movies and TV.
I wonder how Google Play will handle movies/tv that becomes unavailable?  Google Play does allow you to download media in some circumstances (on Android and iOS) but is generally intended  for streaming.  Maybe relying on a physical copy as I do with iTunes should make me more comfortable with it and not less.
I will come back to mark your reply as the solution as it becomes clear there is not a contrary position.  Thank you.

  • Upgrades to iTunes Plus are not showing up

I'd love to upgrade more of my 128-bit tunes to 256-bit. I see that some are now available as such via iTunes, but my "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" doesn't show them. When I click on the title of one of them, I get a message that it is not available for customers in the US - but I can easily find it on iTunes and put it in my Shopping Cart.

Apparently sometimes, for various reasons (replacement of a track in the Store with another copy, slight changes in the release identification, etc.) the link between the track and your Purchase History can break, which will result in the track not appearing as eligible for iTunes Plus upgrade even though it exists as Plus in the Store.
Contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page (there is no category specifically for this issue, so I'd suggest just picking one under the Purchases - problem area) and explain the problem to them. It may take a couple of email exchanges to get past the "form" email responses, but eventually they should work out a solution for you. You may need to provide the track name, artist and order number so they can confirm the original purchase.
    Regards.

  • What does it mean when upgrading to iTunes Plus?

    Ok ~
So was about to upgrade to iTunes Plus, and when I click it I find this:
    106 Total Songs
    14 Songs
    5 Albums
And then I'm given a price. I'm not sure what the break down is, or what 106, 14 are in comparison to one another. And I thought I had purchased more than 5 full albums, but whatever there. Now I have about 300 total songs listed in music I have purchased, so why only 106? I thought that more than 80% was in Plus as of last October? Could it be that a majority of my songs are not Plus yet?
Hopefully someone can make heads and tails out of what this means.
    Thanks,
    Chaz

In my experience...not everything has been upgraded to iTunes Plus...yet. I downloaded a huge number of upgrades a few weeks ago and now it seems like every three or four days when I connect to the iTunes store I'm alerted about more iTunes Plus upgrades available.
My advice...after you accept and install this upgrade, sort your library by "kind" to see how many more "protected aac" tracks you still have listed.
On Edit: iTunes Plus tracks will show up in your library as "purchased aac".

I can't upgrade to iTunes Plus.  I can download songs normally but when I try to upgrade I continue to get the error message.  Please help.
    Thank you!

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
    open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    followed by Enter.
    launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
    3 - try again.

  • I upgraded to iTunes 11 and I got all of the songs on my families' other computers. How can I stop this from happening?

I upgraded to iTunes 11 and I got all of the songs on my families' other computers. We all share the same AppleID, that's why this happened in the first place; but, I do not want their songs on my computer, how can I disable this without deleting the songs forever or making a new AppleID?

I did not upgrade to the newest version of Itunes on my PC.  I just now went to my Library were Music is listed. Under that is Movies, TV Shows, ItunesU, etc.  When I opened my music list, each song was in numerical order.   If I have the songs listed alphabetically, they are in numerical order.  If I change my listing to album or whatever, the first song is listed in numerical order just as I showed in my original question.  They are also numbered on my Playlists.  I have my favorites in two different playlists.  One of them was minus a song.  I was able to see which one was missing because they were in numerical order.  I know I could have just copied to correct one into the incorrect one and just skipped the duplicates, but I chose to do it this way.
So, the songs are listed numerically in my music folder under Library on my older version of Itunes.  But, on my newer version, they are not listed numerically under music.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong?????
Thanks so much for your help.  I wish they would just leave things alone.  I would gladly go back to the older version on my other computer, but????
    Again thanks.

  • HT4623 What's with audio xciter, it only plays a few songs, ones that it won't gives me a message ,upgrade to iTunes plus, what's with that, oh, it ALso says the music is drm protected, upgrade to iTunes plus?

Anyone know what's wrong with audio xciter? It tells me to upgrade to iTunes plus, what's that?when I play my music, it plays a few but wont others because it's drm protected, maybe wrong word and tells me to upgrade to iTunes plus, think I bought junk software!

I am seeing the same thing. 95% of my songs are DRM protected -according this app. But they are not. Hopefully someone has an aswer. The web page support for Xciter does not mention this issue.

  • Not all songs in album upgraded to iTunes Plus

I have many tracks that weren't upgraded after selecting "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" (actually, hundreds of them). I understand that not all tracks are currently available. Oddly, 3 tracks from the Aerosmith album "Big Ones" were not upgraded, yet all of the other tracks were. I have many other albums that show iTunes Plus eligibility in the iTunes Store, but were not upgraded. There does not seem to be any way to check for additional upgrades (the option disappeared from the iTunes main screen after upgrading). It sounds like there are many of us out there with the same type of issue. What is the deal?

Apparently sometimes, for various reasons (replacement of a track in the Store with another copy, slight changes in the release identification, etc.) the link between the track and your Purchase History can break, which will result in the track not appearing as eligible for iTunes Plus upgrade even though it exists as Plus in the Store.

  • Clicking "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" causes problems

I click "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" and it brings me to my music to upgrade. I click on "Buy" and I'm getting a pop up window that says "Your iTunes Plus Upgrade is Processing" and that I'll be notified by email when and how to upgrade. So I click the OK button and the window closes, only to open again. The only way to get rid of the window, or to go back to my Library, is to force quit. Anyone else experiencing this. In my past upgrades, I click the "Buy" button and the downloads just begin.

Well, my issue has been resoled. Not sure what worked, but I went into my account setting at the itunes store and I reset all my warnings. I saw this morning that one song was available for upgrade. I clicked "buy now" and it came up with a dialogue about making sure I wanted to upgrade. I checked "don't show this message again. The download started immediately (no email shenanigans) and it properly asked if I wanted to add the song to my library or delete the old song and replace it with the download.
    Hope the fix sticks!

  • My new 8th gen iPod nano is 'not recognized' by my computer. My computer runs on Windows 7, and I've installed and updated the latest versions of itunes etc, but still to no avail! I've tried different usb ports, troubleshooting...

My computer runs on Windows 7, and I've installed and updated the latest versions of itunes etc, but still to no avail! I've tried different usb ports, troubleshooting, etc... But it still says "One of the USB decuces arrached to this omputer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".
The iPod is brand new, sent to me by Apple as part of the 1st gen replacement programme. I've been using the cable that came with the 1st gen iPod (I bought the first gen second hand) It always worked on my computer with the 1st gen iPod. So I was wondering, do you think I need to replace my cable in order for my PC to recognize my iPod or is it something else?
    Thanks

Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

  • I accidentally deleted a purchased itunes song but still have it on my ipod.  Is there anyway to restore it to my pc?

I accidentally deleted a purchased itunes song but still have it on my ipod.  Is there anyway to restore it to my laptop from the ipod?  I've seen others with a similar situation and the question was asked if it was still on the ipod but can't find a follow up to point me in the right direction.

Use the Transfer Purchases command in iTunes.
