Upgraded to leopard no iphone doesn't show up in itunes

I upgraded to leopard and now when I plug in my iphone it charges but itunes doesn't open, and when I open itunes the iphone doesn't show up. If I need to reset the iphone (which seems rather drastic) how do i do that??
Thanks for any help.

I didn't think I was going to have time to try that tonight but it worked out that I did have time and the reinstall worked. The reinstall was faster than I expected and went right to working normally. no lost playlist or time to search for music.
Thanks for the help

  • Original iPhone doesn't show up in iTunes 9.2 for Mac

My iPhone no longer shows up in iTunes. Do I need to upgrade or uninstall something?
    iTunes: 9.2
    iPhone Version 3.1.2 (7D11) Model: MB384LL
    OS: 10.5.8

Same here. Brand new 3GS running 3.1.3. Activated with iTunes 9.1 on Mac, updated iTunes to 9.2, Software Update was unable to complete "Registering updated system components". iTunes 9.2 works properly, besides it doesn't show my iPhone.

  • Installed 8.2.1 - Now iPhone doesn't show up in iTunes

I just installed iTunes 8.2.1 on my MacBook Pro (10.4.1), and now my iPhone (2.2.1) doesn't show up in iTunes.
The troubleshooter says to reinstall iTunes (I've already rebooted the phone and the computer to no avail), but that seems risky. I don't want to lose my library. Any other suggestions?

    Hi Cyndi
I have been fearing what you said about USB 1.0 since I got my first gen iPhone two years ago. I have an older Powerbook G4 that has one USB 1.0 port. When I got my first gen iPhone I never had any problems downloading or syncing with USB 1.0, but then the news of that first big update came along. People were having problems and some of them were being blamed on folks using USB 1.0 when the specs said USB 2.0 was required. So I went online and bought a USB 2.0 card to go into my Powerbook's PCMCIA slot and all was fine. But I still used USB 1.0 from time to tiem and it still worked OK. Slower, but OK.
I've just updated iTunes to 8.2.1 and I tried my USB 1.0 port and knock on wood my 3GS synced just fine. Odd. ?????
If you have a PCMCIA slot on your computer, try going to www.macsales.com for a USB 2.0 card.

  • My iPhone doesn't show up in iTunes

I started the recovery mode in iTunes, it gave an error saying unable to recover and now my iPhone is crashed and doesn't start anymore.
ITunes doesn't recognize the iPhone so I can't do anything right now.

WJosten, I appreciate your detailed instructions re dealing with this problem.
After updating OS 10.4.11 to 10.6 this morning, I plugged in my iPhone 4 to find that iTunes 9.2, already installed on my MacBook, would not recognize it.
I looked on here, saw this thread, and tried the steps you outlined. When I got to the part about downloading a fresh version of iTunes 9.2, however, I could not get iTunes to install. I click on the disk image and it does nothing except briefly highlight the box with the .mpkg file in it. Fwiw, I cannot see the "opened box" icon that's usually associated with an install. The .mpkg file just looks like a text file.
Any thoughts on what I might do? I have been using Firefox, so I tried downloading with Safari, just in case that made a difference, but no. I have 12 GB of space on my internal hard drive, so that's not a problem, either.
I am totally stymied, having spent most of the day today wrestling with this.
    Thanks.

  • My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes via wi-fi.

How come I can't sync by wi-fi? My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes unless it's connected by USB cable. "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" is checked in iTunes. (I can sync ONLY by USB cable--ironic because I won't upgrade to Mavericks until it allows USB local syncing.) What am I missing?

Is your iPhone plugged in to a charger?  I believe that is a requirement for WiFi sync.

I sync my iPhone and iPad to my Mac running Mavericks using USB local syncing all the time.
Maybe you're referring to the fact that iCloud is the sync mechanism for Contacts and Calendars now.  If not, I don't understand your comment.

  • IPhone 3GS doesn't show up in iTunes

(Sorry for the length of this, but I want to make sure that I don't leave out anything that I've done.)
It all started last week when I installed Starcraft 2 on my Mac mini (the new one that came out in June 2010). Starcraft 2 crashed frequently due to the nVidia driver issues in 10.6.4, so the next day I re-installed OS X from the DVD that came with my computer to rollback to 10.6.3. Starcraft 2 worked better, but that's beside the point.
Later that day I noticed that iTunes didn't show my iPhone 3GS when it was connected (I have had zero problems with this since I got my Mac mini last month). (I'm using iTunes 9.2.1, by the way). I searched a bit, and found the instructions to Uninstall and reinstall iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224). I followed the instructions, and everything worked quite well.
At this point, I thought the problem was either due to my re-install of OS X or Starcraft 2 (I'm using a USB headset, which could somehow be related).
I was having other issues with Starcraft 2 at this point, so I decided to install Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp. I did this, installed Starcraft 2, and played away.
When I rebooted into OS X, again I noticed that my iPhone wasn't showing up in iTunes. I started to follow the uninstall steps again, and this time I noticed that iTunesHelper wasn't running. It wasn't running because it wasn't in the list of login items to run when my account logs in. Since I was part way through uninstalling anyway, I continued with the process and then reinstalled iTunes. Once again, iTunes saw my iPhone fine. This time I also manually added iTunesHelper to my login items (I had to right click iTunes.app, Show Package Contents, navigate to iTunesHelper.app, and drag it into the list of Login items; I did check the Hide checkbox, since I recalled it being checked during the first uninstall).
It was a few days before I checked iTunes again (I rebooted a few times in here to play Starcraft 2 in Windows; note that I haven't ran Starcraft 2 in OS X since I installed Windows XP previously). However, once again my iPhone wasn't in iTunes.
Since I want to sync my iPhone today, I once again follow the uninstall iTunes process. This time, after installing it and verifying that my iPhone shows up in iTunes (again, I had to manually add iTunesHelper to my login items), I immediately rebooted and connected my iPhone. It didn't show up in iTunes (which I kind of expected at this point). I verified that iTunesHelper was indeed running.
I also tried connecting my wife's iPod touch (first generation), but it doesn't show up in iTunes either (not that I expected it to).
I've tried changing the USB port the dock connector is connected to, but that doesn't seem to matter. I did not change the port during the last reboot attempt, so I do not think that the port itself is bad. I have it connected to one of the ports on the back of the Mac mini, not to one of the ports on my keyboard. Also, my iPhone does charge when connected to this port even if iTunes doesn't recognize it.
At this point it sounds like the iTunes 9.2.1 installer doesn't do something that is required for the iPhone to be recognized by iTunes after a reboot, even though it sets things up properly right after installation. Based on the uninstall instructions, I compared the iTunes related files on my Mac with my wife's (a MacBook from early 2008, if that matters), and everything seems to be in place.
I've seen quite a few other posts here regarding issues with iPhones (and iPod touches) not showing up in iTunes, so apparently this is a common issue, but none of them seemed to help my problem.
Do you have any ideas of anything else I can try?
    Thank you very much!

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

    Hi ChristianHelpplz,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like your iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes on your Mac, but your iPhone 6 is working normally.
I recommend starting with these steps to troubleshoot your iPod touch and connection with your Mac:
    Check your USB connections
Unplug other USB devices from your Mac and try again.
    Try a different USB port.
    Try a different USB cable.
    Restart your device
Restart your iOS device or reset your iPod.
    Restart your Mac
Turn your Mac off and back on.
    Update your software
Check for software updates on your Mac.
    Check for an iTunes update.
    Check your security software
If you have security software installed, learn how to resolve issues between iTunes and your security software.

If you've tried these steps and your iPod touch is still not recognized, try placing it into Recovery Mode next:
