Upgraded to Lion on iMac.  Now HDMI output is gone.

I have an iMac connected through HDMI to my Sony Bravia.  It's worked fine.
After I upgraded to Lion, I went to display from iMac to the TV and my HDMI selection under Preferences is now gone.

Copy protection Is getting “tighter”.
The Intel-developed technology is called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) and aims to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across a variety of display connectors (like HDMI), even if such copying is not in violation of fair use laws.
Among the connectors supported by the technology are HDMI and the Mini DisplayPort found on Apple's latest MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air, in addition to others such as Digital Visual Interface (DVI), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Gigabit Video Interface (GVIF), and Unified Display Interface (UDI).
Presently, I do not know of a “workaround”.

    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Ever since upgrading to Lion my iMac opens to a different admin than the one last used and has to be switched. How can that be changed?

How can I change which user boots at start up? Ever since upgrading to Lion X my iMac no longer opens to the user on it prior to shut down. It now opens to a user who is virtually never on - which is actually me under a different name. This division of my Mac happened when I switched to my new Mac and didn't know I had to use the same name to transfer my data. My old data is listed as a separate user. Over time my old user name brings up a window full of ???? at the bottom. It looks like no apps ever upgrade there. It is driving me crazy to have to now switch back each time I start my computer. (I am using an iMac with 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor).

  • Upgraded to Lion, my iMac early 2009 freeze several times a day

    Hi all,
Since my upgrade to Lion (1.6.8 -> 1.7.3 and now 1.7.4), my iMac 2009 freeze several times a day.
the screen (wallpaper and windows) change of color ... i saw some artifacts and ... a moment, my mouse stops to move, my only way is to reboot my iMac.
before my upgrade, my iMac ran a week without a reboot .. :-!

In addition to having adequate RAM did you repair disk permissions after the updates? If not then please run Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and run Repair Disk Permissions, I would recommend doing so 2x. If you see messages, you can normally disregard them per Apple's Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore advice letter.

  • Upgrading to Lion, used cloud, now my apple mail no longer syncs on my computer. Can't get any apple mail to come in. Mail window not working properly. Connection to Internet fine. Anyone know how to fix this issue? All worked fine until I opted for Cloud

    Hello,
I am using a MacBook Pro. Bought in April 2011. Upgraded to Lion, OSX 10.7.3
I have an Apple mail account that synced with a gmail account in my Mail Program.
I then chose the CLOUD activation. I can find my mail if I go to cloud.com but I no longer get any Apple mail delivered to my Mail program on my computer. My gmail account syncs just fine. In fact, the Mail program doesn't even open any longer when I double click. I have to go to the Mail menu, select Message Viewer to even view my mail program now. The Internet connection is testing fine using the Connection Doctor. But when the Connection Doctor program just whirs for eternity and never finishes checking the accounts.
Is this a bug? Do you have to set up your mailbox again for Apple mail to get it to sync after having mail hosted on the Cloud? Or does hosting on the Cloud mean I now always have to go the hassle of logging in at the cloud site to even access my Apple mail?
Any ideas out there? I am sure there are Mac geniuses, the real ones, floating around in cyber space and would love to get some intelligent directions to solve this new issue.
    Cheers
    Anne

I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
Still hoping someone out there can help me.
    thanks,
    anne

  • After upgrading to Lion my iMac Intel 3.0 GHz

My iMac now starts with a new screen which demands a User Name and password.
How do I get back to just starting up to the screen which is ready to use?
    Also, everything has slowed down.
Internet access using Australian Telstra 3G Broadband USB modem now refuses to be recognized even after updating from the USB Broadband program.
I can only get connection by restarting the iMac (sometimes several times) until I can get the USB recognized.
This iMac now works like an old PC with a virus. Could I have got a virus when I downloaded the Lion Os?
    Please help.
    Maureen

    Hello again Gary,
After trying your PRAM suggestion, everything was OK however, when I restarted my iMac the next day, the same Grey Screen apppeared whith the request for user name and password?
This has repeated for the last 3 days!
I have tried the Utility to check the HD "Verify Disk Permissions" which shows a long list of "faults"? and I have done this twice now.
Also I have to do the PRAM start-up in order to get online and use other programs. I get frequent messages that say my "Applications" are for the wrong OS?
After using the PRAM keyboard start-up I get a screen with a "Bar" similar to the Windows XP start-up proocess and a grey blob moves along this "Bar" until the iMac starts.
On one site it mentioned that this iMac may need an "Firmware" update/correction; however I can not find any Firmware to download for this machine.
    My iMac is a 21.5" Model A1311.
Do I need to do a complete Format of the HDD and re-install Leopard and then try Lion again?
    Very frustrated,
    Maureen

  • I have just upgraded to Lion and I now find that my VPN network does not work properly.  It worked fine with Leopard.

I have just upgraded to Lion and now my VPN connection does not work properly.  It was working fine when I was using Leopard.  The VPN is My Private Network and we use it to link to BBC iPlayer when abroad.  It will actually connect to the VPN site and shows a UK IP address, but then when we try to load an iPlayer programme we get the message from the BBC that we are not in the country and, therefore, cannot access the site.  Any suggestions?

Have a look at System Preferences, Accessibility, VoiceOver.

  • Having upgraded to lion my imac drops the internet connect when not active

I have just upgraded to Lion and when I leave the computer unattended for a few minutes it drops its internet connection - therefore does not collect any email until I click on the Airport icon and reselect the network. Also when starting up the and automatically loading Firefox the home page shows the previous download.

    I FINALLY SOLVED THIS ISSUE!!!!
New routers have "mixed" modes for your network; this means that it will automatically choose the best option between wireless-B, wireless-G and wireless-N network modes. I used to experience this issue using the 2.4 GHz. mixed mode wireless network.
Thankfully, my router can create 2 networks: a 2.4 GHz. network and a 5 GHz. network.
When I randomly changed this value to "use only wireless-B and wireless-G" trying to fix an issue with a wi-fi expander, the iMac wi-fi  issue dissapeared! I tried it with wireless-N only, but it didn't work.
So, finally, I have a 2.4 GHz network with only wireless-B and wireless-G modes which works PERFECT with the iMac, and a 5 GHz. network with a mixed* wireless mode for everything else mode.
*PD: by "mixed" mode it means that the router will automatically choose between B, G and N network modes as it fits better.

I upgraded to Lion Os about 3 months ago.  I have a Hoyle Card Game program and it no longer will open.  I did try and re-install it and it still stalls at opening.  I can hear the sound but the picture doesn't start.  Computer locks up additionally.  Anyone have any suggestions?

    To explain further.
I answer the alerts first, that I get for "New Posts" in threads I have contributed to.
Then I read my other email.
Then I come back to the boards to read the oldest Unread thread first.
Not linking to the Thread to highlight there is one whilst emailing me is a bit like queue jumping.
As you can see I do read everything eventually during each evening I spend here.
I will keep to the email and only post here if I find the answer.  The answer should be shared.

Hi everyone. I both a Mac Pro 15" in March 2009. Five month ago I  was forced to buy by one new hard drive and extent the memory, because I had to make the upgrade (and pay) to install the new Lion operation system. Four days ago the Mother-board fails. To change it will cost a fortune. What should I do or expect from Apple to solve this problem? I am very disappointed because my trust on Apple was destroyed.

I am not sure why you are upset with Apple. Electronics equipment does fail. If the product is out of warranty or you do not have AppleCare there's not much you can do with Apple. Apple will charge you for the repair. Suggest you look for a third party repair store since they are usually less expensive than Apple. Alternatively you can buy one for about $850US and install it yourself. Sorry, but there aren't many choices in this situation.

  • HT3805 I recently upgraded to mavericks on iMac . now when i open aperture I get the message"aperture cannot access this library. to use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly" I have repaid permissions via the aperture first aid.

I repaired the permissions in aperture first aid. I notice my short user name has changed from the one before the mavericks upgrade.

I notice my short user name has changed from the one before the mavericks upgrade.
Then you created a new user account when upgrading. How did you upgrade? Did erase the system and set up your mac completely new? If your short user name has changed, you are no longer the owner of your Aperture library, if it ha been created with your old user name.
I repaired the permissions in aperture first aid.
And after repairing the permissions you can still not access it?
Where is the library located? On an external drive or in your Home folder?
