Upgraded to mac OS 10.9.2 and cannot get my Officejet g85xi to work

has anyone figured out a solution to this problem. Is there a work around or something. I cannot run my he setup assistant program. the drivers that i have downloaded from hp wont open in the new os. HEEELLLPPP. I love this printer has anyone had this same problem

HP G85 does not use standard usb protocol. See : http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs-usb
If you connect with jetdirect server (175 or higher) - and not usb-  you can color print following this procedure :
- open the printer web page, clic on networking tab. Select Configuration, other settings.  Select usb settings tab, choose auto communication mode and HPGL2 status page language (default is auto). Do not chosse PCL or postscript. Unplug G85 and replug.
- download packages from : http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosxhpijs?
- install foomatic first, then gplgs, then hpijs-3.10.6.dmg. You do not need to reboot
- I suggest to reinitialize printers on your mac if you don't have other printers installed
- install a new printer : you should see your G85 and select use : HP Officejet G85 hpijs, 3.10.6.15. Then click add.
Print a test page. It should work fine.
The same procedure should apply to HP printers listed in http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs-usb.
Scanner is accessible from the printer web page.

Where do I go from here?

You installed from the discs, right?
What happens when you try to launch? What are you doing to launch and what happens you do it? Can't see you computer from here. If you probably need to contact Apple with an installation issue on a new computer.

• I run Vista and cannot get my Officejet Pro 8500-A909a to set up

I originally had my 8500 running correctly. One day, in June, I suddenly noticed that when I attempted to scan using the keys on the printer, my computer was not on the list of computers attached to my printer. I did a search of the issue and was told to re-install the software. When I attempted to re-install, I could not get my computer to see that the usb cable is connected. If I download the drivers only, I can get them to load, but the full suite of capabilities will not load and I do not have the shortcut on my computer that allows me to open and scan from the computer screen..

Took me all day to get the old XP working. But, I had success in flashing the printer.
1. Installed the software from the original DVD that came with it. Had Norton antivirus and firewall turned off and installed the printer using USB.
Note: Win XP does not have User Access Control (UAE) and I did not think to turn this off during the unsuccessful flashing on the Win7 PC. If you are running an AV program, I would turn UAE off and disconnect my internet connection. You dont need it to flash the printer.
2. I updated the HP software via the HP solution centre. Open it and you should see a choice to update the software. When updating it tells you that it will fix a communication problem with the printer. Run it. I usually tick the box to "shut down the computer after completion". This way, I can walk away and if it has shut down, it usually has updated successfully. If it is still running and hangs then there is a problem. Make sure to print a test page from the printers property window. If it does, you know it can communicate after the update.
3. Flash the printer. It will happen as per the instructions from HP. I had the .exe on a usb stick and it did it from that.
Hope that helps.

Hi ishmakov,
The PIXMA MP170 is not supported with Mac OSX v10.9, that is why you are experiencing this error.

• I have a Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz Quad core (mid 2012) using OSX 10.7.5) and cannot get iDVD to run.

I have a Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz Quad core (mid 2012) using OSX 10.7.5) and cannot get iDVD to run. I tried 7.0.4 and 7.1.2, both from Apple software update and both crash during "loading themes". I am reluctant to upgrade OSX from 10.7.5 because I do not want to loose Final Cut Express 4.0.1. Apple Care no longer supports iDVD. I want a version if iDVD that supports Chapter markers as in iDVD 7.?.? that i used with my old (now deceased) Apple Power PC Mac Pro.

iDVD 7 should work fine with 10.7.5.  Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

• TS1545 I have downloaded 10.5.8 combo several times and cannot get it to install because the disc won't mount or the installation gets hung up after restart. My current os is 10.5.1, and I am trying to upgrade to snow leopard. This is on a dual core macbo

I have downloaded 10.5.8 combo several times and cannot get it to install because the disc won't mount or the installation gets hung up after restart. My current os is 10.5.1, and I am trying to upgrade to snow leopard. This is on a dual core macbook pro.

You don't need to update to Leopard 10.5.8 unless you want to keep Leopard. Upgrading to Snow Leopard requires that your purchase the retail install disk.
The following covers Leopard:
Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

I am trying to install Firefox 4 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and I get the error message "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture" Help!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

This is the website.

IF you know the exact file name of the download, you can search for it in the spotlight.
(This icon) in the upper right corner.
If you don't know the exact file name, you may have to redownload it so you can see it.
I would also try doing a reboot after you change your desktop background to what you want.

• I have recently upgrades to OS X 10.9.3 and cannot access Aperture,  (version 3.2.4).  What do I need to do to access my library!!

I have recently upgrades to OS X 10.9.3 and cannot access Aperture,  (version 3.2.4).  What do I need to do to access my library!!

Update your Aperture version to Aperture 3.5.1.
If you bought Aperture as a boxed version with a license key, run Software update from the Apple-menu.
Aperture may be showing in the "Accept" portion of Purchased tab of the App Store.
If you bought Aperture from the App Store, look at the Updates page of the App Store.
Make sure, that Aperture is installed in the Applications folder and simply called Aperture and not "Aperture 3" or similar.
If you did not buy Aperture from the App Store, then the update to 3.5.1 will change your license to an AppStore license. So be sure to sign into the AppStore with the AppleID that you want to use with Aperture, before you update Aperture.
Aperture will update your Aperture library to a new format. Don't open Aperture on your library, before you have made a backup, just in case.
