Upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8.3 - Mail Upgrade Stuck

I wanted to wait for all the bugs to get worked out before I upgraded my Mac OS.  I finally took the plunge.
Mac 10.8.4 upgrade went smoothly except for one problem.  When I opened Mail, I got a dialog that it will upgrade my Mail database and that it will take a few minutes.  That was 12 hours ago.
Mail is about 1/4 way complete, same as last night.  The "Quit" and "Continue" buttons are greyed out.
What should I do?

Thanks for replying so quickly pal, but I actually seemed to have solved my own problem.
For anyone who has been having the same issue that I did, follow these steps:
1) go to your 'contacts' app and remove your email address from your own 'card'
(not sure if this is necessary) 2) remove apple id from user & preference profile
Cheers

  • Version 5.6 upgrade, stuck in print error loop

After installing the 5.6 update, I put together a collage. When I tried to print the collage, I started getting a  series of printer setup errors that would not stop. Can't even quite. When I force quite and reopened, Lightroom reopen the collage and started the loop again. Any ideas.

can't help but this is all I found in apple docs:
    # Issue: After performing an upgrade installation of Leopard, an administator account may change to a standard one.
Solution: See Mac OS X 10.5: Administrator user changes to standard.
    # Issue: After completing an upgrade installation of Leopard and restarting the computer, a "blue screen" may appear for an extended period of time.
Solution: See Mac OS X 10.5: "Blue screen" appears after installing Leopard and restarting.
    # Issue: After installing Leopard on an aluminum 20-inch or 24-inch iMac (Mid 2007) computer, you may not be able to log in at the login window--your login name and password are accepted, but after a blue screen appears for a few seconds, the login window reappears.
Solution: See Mac OS X 10.5, iMac (Mid 2007): Stuck in a "loop" at the login window after upgrading to Leopard.
    # Issue: You may not be able to log in with a user account that has a password of 8 or more characters if it was originally created in Mac OS X 10.2.8 or earlier, after performing an upgrade installation of Leopard.
Solution: Mac OS X 10.5: Unable to log in to account after an upgrade install.
    # Issue: After installing Leopard, you may not be able to log in to a user account that has no password if it was originally created in Mac OS X 10.2.x, then migrated to Leopard.
Solution: See Mac OS X 10.5: Can't log in to migrated account that has no password.
    # Issue: Setup Assistant unexpectedly appears each time Mac OS X 10.5 starts up, and continues to appear after completing all pages in the assistant.

  • Why will IMAP email not send from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail even though it is configured the same as on my old Macbook (and emails are sending just fine on the old computer)?

I can receive but cannot send IMAP email on my 1&1 mail account from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail on my new Macbook Pro. The account is set up the same port, password, username, server name as on my old Macbook and emails are sending just fine on the old computer.
When I hit send on the new Macbook Pro running Yosemite I get this message:
"The connection to host ... on port 993 failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
It shows the server as (offline)
I've tried erasing and typing in the password.  I've tried both checking and unchecking Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Still cannot send.
I also have a Gmail account and it is working...

email service uses an Incoming Server and an Outgoing Server. Mac Mail makes access to the Incoming Server(s) obvious, and hides the settings for the outgoing Server(s). A quick and easy way to get access to the Outgoing Servewr settings is to use:
    Window > Connection Doctor ...
... then click on the red light for the Server that is not working for you to see its settings.
This web page will make an educated guess about how to set up your Servers, and NO SPAM will follow:

You don't need iDVD unless you are going to make DVDs. If you are just trying to share files, iDVD won't help you at all.
What you want to do is in iMovie, choose File/Share/File, and export that way. It creates an .mp4 file that should be readable on Macs or Windows.
You could also File/Share/YouTube if you don't mind posting them to YouTube, because of course YouTube videos are watchable by any Mac or Windows computer made in the last 10 years.

I have a new mac book pro (sept 2014) and am suddenly stuck on the log-in screen. Keyboard input is not working to enter my password. Seems to be a log in issue as keyboard works for forced troubleshooting. (And b/c when I first noticed the problem, I was able to enter my log in password but then everything sort of froze. Now, no ability to enter the password.) Already tried a basic restart and a cmmnd/ cntrl/ pwr troubleshoot to no effect.

I assume you created a .mac account in Mail. You might want to try deleting the account and recreating it. Assuming you Internet connection is good, it sounds like Mail doesn't understand where to get mail.

  • Hi I'm new to Mac & I have bootcamp on it but am stuck, how do I get from Mac side to the Window side?

Hi I'm new to Mac & I have bootcamp on it but am stuck, how do I get from Mac side to the Window side?

Hold the "option" key on boot.  Choose the system to boot.
Then "System Preferences > Startup Disk" to select Max OSX as your default system.
There is another "system preferences" in the Windows menu that is added by bootcamp to make it the default, but I do not know the details of that.

  • Firefox upgrades will not install on my Mac with OSX 10.8.2, I am stuck on Firefox 13

I have a mid 2012 MBP with Retina display. When I try to install Firefox upgrades i Get the message that teh update will not be installed, are you running more than 1 copy of Firefox. This occurs no matter what I try even from a restart. Activity monitor only shows one copy of Firefox running
I reset Firefox to the default and that did not help, I started in safe mode and that did not help.

    Hi mike_bauer
If there is an issue with update or permissions the better, quickest and safest way is to '''download and install''' firefox:
    1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    2. '''''Trash''''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded.
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

  • Mac OS X 10.7.3 mail doesn't send jpg attachments?

    First thing:
I can't send a jpeg attachment with Mail. It always arrives in th body of the text and the receiver can do nothing with it.
    Another thing:
Also when I want to forward an email, very often the attachments doesn't follow, or even the text of the email doesn't follow !
    That's not reliable.
    What can I do?

You need to upgrade to the current version of Adobe Reader 10.1.3. PPC applications are not supported in Lion.
If you also use Office then see:
Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • 10.8.4 upgrade stuck

My "Software Update..." tells me I need to upgrade to 10.8.4 (I'm currently on 10.8.3 on a Macbook Pro).  I click Install and am told to restart, which I do.  And when I get back from restarting, I'm still told to upgrade to 10.8.4.  For some reason, I'm stuck in this loop.  How do I break out of this and actually get upgraded to 10.8.4?

Sometimes the Mac App Store version doesn't work. In your case, install 10.8.4 with the Combo edition you can download from the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659
It's a normal problem that some people have but can be easily fixed
