Upgraded to Mavericks not my excel clipboard cannot be emptied and I cannot copy and paste from safari either.

I upgraded to Mavericks. Now when working in excel I cannot copy a cell to paste. When I try to copy an alert pops up saying 'Cannot empty clipboard'. I hit "OK' then I go to another screen, such as Safari, then excel on dock will bump then I have to keep going back to it to select "OK" again.
Also, I cannot copy on Safari, to paste an address on google earth, or paste anywhere else for that matter.
Anyone experiencing same issues?
I already checked my clipboard in finder and it is empty. Also, I tried right clicking to copy and still did not work that way.
Thanks. This is very frustrating because I need to use shortcuts and I work fast. I have business to tend to and need everything working. Excel keeps shutting down and restrting as well, very frustrating because I have to constantly save work and hope that it reopens with last edit.

Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

    NTFS is your problem.
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, exporting, saving edits and sharing the photos.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Upgrade to Mavericks NOT Yosemite

    Hello All
How do I download the Mavericks update on to my macbookpro?
I have tried searching the appstore/update app but it does not show up, also searching on google results in a link (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/os-x-mavericks/id675248567?mt=12) but following that link opens the appstore/update app and displays  an error message stating "Item not Available, the item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store"
Do I need to go to an apple store and purchase physical upgrade medium (usb stick/DVD)?
Also at this point I am NOT willing to upgrade to Yosemite as it, at present, breaks both rEFIt and rEFInd (the boot managers I use) which would result in me having to carry 2 + laptops round with me (which is NOT something it want to do) to have all the OS's I need to have at hand available to me.
On that point does anyone know if apple's bootmanager will ever be updated to support linux?

Rather than AppleCare, try this number:
    Apple Software Upgrade Center
    (888) 840-8433
I also have a computer that I need to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.  Mission Critical software is broken by Yosemite.
This is the problem with downloaded software, it makes it difficult to use earlier versions of applications and operating systems. In many ways, things were much easier when Apple sold their OS on a disk.  Just pop in the disc in your done !

Probably  a long shot, but try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies.

  • My glossary made in a widget does not show up in captivate 8 responsive project. I copied and pasted it. What to do?

    .

    I reply to myself:
response projects are for me too complicated: either one function is working and excludes the other or reverse.
Buttons do work and the glossary not or the glossary works and the buttons do nothing.
Also powerpoints cannot be imported and other functions are also excluded (slide overs)
I like to work on the content, so it my course is very good to be seen on my Ipad in a non responsive way.
Also the helpdesk is very poor: no answers......
    Nobody knows the right answers.
    A bit disappointed.
I will wait for captiva 9, 10 and 11 before going back to responsive.
Unti now I will go on in  the nonresponsive way: in doing that captivate is excellent

  • Just cannot accept that I can't get time data from Safari!!!! questions...thoughts?

I normally don't really care about browsing history, but I don't usually delete at all on my mini. WIFI only - no service plan on it.
Yesterday left my ipad mini unattended at my desk while away from the office for ~ 1 hour. Small office, < 30 people, no chance of theft. Pranks, yes.
Didn't use it upon return, but decided to check something before leaving several hours later when office had cleared out. RATHER shocked to open Safari and find the tab open to be very much NSFW, with offer an IPAD app for said type of site. Immediately hit the back button and got some other QUITE LOVELY photos. I'm sure whoever did it was very sad to have missed my reaction.
Looked at history. mystery deepens....it looked as though I had somehow opened that tab the night before. But there is no time stamp on Safari. I can't believe I never noticed that. In my shock at seeing this site, and the app, I immediately deleted my browser history. Then I went DOH! I've been trying to figure out how I can get into a file to see the cache or the cookies, anything that will confirm that someone else touched my ipad during the time I was not in the office.
As far as I can tell, I can only delete the cookies and cache but nothing more. I did find the data usage files - I can delete those - but I can't see anything else so no way for me to confirm that someone else used my mini while I was not there. Even if I had not deleted the history, there's no more info than site visited in order - so would not help me get the WHEN part.
I must have accidentally clicked on an ad. I even thought my dog might have done it (small dog). I read on the mini bf bed while brushing my teeth, and it's possible I hit something while scolling that I opened it without realizing it. I went back to the site I had been reading (just a gossip forum for blog snarking) but couldn't find ads like that. Clicked through to some ads that looked sketchy to see if those sites had something like that. no luck.
I'm obsessing, and I'm sure this person did something to yank my chain. And no, I wouldn't bother to post for 'a friend' or make up something to cover my tracks. If I looked at crap myself on my mini, I would not be surprised to find it there, nor ask about how it happened. There's no one else who uses it but me!! The only other person in my home is my exceptionally techno-challenged spouse, and there are about 1 million reasons I know he didn't do it.
Yes, the easy solution is don't leave the IPAD unattended ever, and lock it with a password.
But I want to get this person back. I figure if I do and say nothing, he'll think that I didn't see it - and maybe try again. So I'd have to leave my mini around for a while. Looking for an app with an alarm that will scream something filthy if he tries it again. "Is there an app for that"
Otherwise, looking for way to track usage through an app. And a screaming alarm app that I've not yet been able to find. And a browser that has better info. I review history info for lots of reasons on my other browsers on laptop/desktop. just had no clue Safari was so terribly limited in this way. just can't believe it!!!
I know this isn't really a 'question' per se - just trying to figure out what happened and clearly just have to let it go b/c I won't ever really know.
(last thought...there are lots of people @ work who probably leave tablets laying around as I did - so will also just keep my ears open to see if anyone else got something 'cute' on theirs...."

    A good source of information.

  • Macbook pro running painfully slowly since upgrade to Mavericks and worse since Yosemite

Hi, since upgrading to Mavericks my previously excellent 2011 Macbook Pro is running painfully slowly, and things have only got worse since the upgrade to Yosemite. It takes anything up to 10 minutes to get fully functional from opening the lid on standby, can take a good 5 minutes to connect to wifi, and I am getting stuck with constant spinning beach balls. I've cleaned things up, and deleted anything unnecessary so I have adequate space on the HDD but this doesn't seem to make any difference, and I'm not running any particularly memory hungry software. It was working perfectly before these upgrades and I'm really wishing I could just downgrade back to Mountain Lion now! I'm no expert so could really use some help. Do I just need more RAM or is this something more complicated?
I've run Etresoft and here are the results (I note there is some adware listed on Safari, but I don't use it ,using Chrome and Firefox instead):

  • Mac book pro freezes at login after upgrade to mavericks

    Hi Peeps,
I'm new to Apple and this is my first Mac Book Pro... I bought it Oktober last year...
Today i wanted to upgrade to Mavericks... All went well, the mac installed... and now it is done.... The system launches until the login screen and then freezes... I've been reading about it on al possible forums... Don't know what to do and in two days i leave abroad again far away from civilization... this mac is my only connection to home and the normal world so yes..i'm a bit desperate
I tried the cmd+R thing to reinstall the OS X - same result...
Bit afraid to do this erase thing cause i'm not sure to do it right - cannot really afford to loose data on this pc apart from the OS.
Stupid me i didn't make a backup with Time machine or something else... can anyone please help me out here ????
    Any advice is welcome...
    Thanks all !!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
