Upgraded to msata but now original 320 Gb HDD not recognised

Hi all
I just upgraded to a msata which works absolutely fine. However the HDD refuses to be recognised in BIOS or in windows 7, I just get a 2100 error on booting. I can boot into windows after pressing a few keys but the hdd is nowhere to be seen in windows. Is there any way to refresh the hard drive list or do a low level format?

No it's more complicated than that.
I replaced the original HDD with a Crucial C300 256 GB SSD but that died when I put the laptop down on a worktop one day. At the time I thought it was the loose battery that had turned off the laptop.
I am doing a RMA on the SSD to get thta replaced. In the meantime I thought I would put the old drive back in and add a msata to get better storage space but the old drive refuses to be recognises by the laptop. The msata works perfectly and is only slightly slower than the C300.

Extermal Toshiba USB 320 GB HDD not recognised correctly

My hard drive does not now recognize itself as a hard drive anymore just a Cypress AT2P RC42 and so is now useless after a couple of months use.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled through device manager. I then tried it on another computer and I have the same problem, therefore it is the hard drive and not the computer.
It is an external USB toshiba 320GB drive which previously worked fine but now thinks its something else and nothing else.
What can I do to rectify this problem? Please help all my data is on this drive.......

Do you have Parallels Desktop 6? That is the version you need to have it run under Lion.

Processes is the only place it shows Firefox running, programs won't show it in Task Manager.

Reinstall 10.6 again, but this time hold c boot off the 10.6 and erase the ENTIRE internal drive.
You do this by selecting the drive makers name and size on the left hand side, not the slightly indented partition underneath it.
If you erase and install 10.6 only into a parittion, say Macintosh HD, the you still have the hidden Lion Recovery Partition on the drive and it appears you already have 10.7
In the MAS, hold option and click Purchases to redownload Lion
FYI, you don't need to install 10.6 to reinstall 10.7, 10.7 can be reinstalled via the Lion Recovery, Command r boot.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more. I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!
