Upgraded to new MobileMe Calendar and now very slow updates

System:
iPhone 3G, iOS 4.1
Mac: 10.6.4
"Upgraded" to the new MobileMe Calendar.
Now BusyCal, iCal, MobileMe and iPhone do not sync quickly (sometimes takes 30 minutes for iPhone or more). Sometimes I need to launch iCal to get MobileMe to update. On the iPhone need to leave on for a long time or turn on and off.
I think I've gone through all the conversion steps and FAQs: Apple's, MobileMe, Mac, iPhone and BusyCal.
Maybe I was just spoiled with iPhone via Airport.
Any comments/suggestions?
Thank you.

I'm seeing that problem as well and I can't figure out what why it's slower. I figured it's a bug so I reported the problem at Apple's iTunes Feedback page.
On the other hand, iTunes 9 converts MP3s to AAC format at least twice as fast as iTunes 8 did, which is a very welcome improvement.

Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what am I doing wrong?

It's possible the reason it seems so slow, is that a backup might be in progress - and since it's the first backup everything on the disk is something that Time Machine is backing up and is being transferred across the WiFi at the same time as you're trying to use your Internet. So you're competing with Time Machine data flying across your WiFi along with your internet stuff. So if this is indeed what is happening (look at Time Machine to see if a backup is in progress), either pause the backup to a more convienent time or live with the slowness till the backup is done this first time, and after that you probably will not notice the "competition" on your WiFi. I like to schedule the Time Machine backups to late at night rather than once an hour (the default), but that schedule should be whatever you feel most comfortable with.
There is a handy free utility called "TimeMachine Editor" that you can get from http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/ that lets you create your own customized backup schedule. You can create several schedules to fit your working conditions. I've used it for several years with never a problem. I don't have anything to do with the company - just a happy user.
    Good luck...

  • Mac OS X 10.6.5 fixes sync issue after upgrading to new MobileMe calendar

The issue that prevented iSync from 'seeing' calendars after upgrading to the new MobileMe Calendar has been fixed in iSync 3.1.2, part of the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update.

Appointments made on my phone are now synced to the local calendar. How do I get these in the cloud and synced with my other devices (macbook and ipod touch)?
Unfortunately, this is the way it works now. I asked Apple about this and got the following response:
+"Events from CalDAV calendars can be synced via iSync to a phone, but events can only be created on local calendars. This is as designed."+
I haven't tried it yet, but I presume you drag events from the local calendar to the MobileMe calendar, but I don't know how this would handle duplicates.

  • ICal crashes whenever opened after upgrade to new MobileMe calendar

I upgraded to the MobileMe calendar beta, and have no problem using it on my iPhone, MacPro or the web. But iCal on my MacBook Pro now crashes every time it is opened. I can see it start up OK, then as soon as it starts showing the indeterminate spinner next to my MobileMe calendars (presumably showing it's doing a sync) it crashes. I've tried deleting all my calendar data from my Library folder but that hasn't helped.
Has anyone else seen this? Or could anyone offer any suggestion as to how I can remove the MobileMe calendars from iCal to at least get it running again? The error it crashes with (it's the same every time):

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • Upgraded to iTunes 9: 'Determining Volume' now *very* slow

I've upgraded my iTunes to version 9 but I've noticed that when I download podcasts iTunes now takes forever, about 1 minute per 30 minute podcast, to analyze the volume level.
Is there some new setting I need to look into?
Or is this a bug in iTunes9 and I should downgrade back to version 8?
Is there a place to file bug reports against iTunes9?
    Thanks!

I'm seeing that problem as well and I can't figure out what why it's slower. I figured it's a bug so I reported the problem at Apple's iTunes Feedback page.

  • Upgraded eMac OS 10.4.11, now VERY SLOW

I upgraded my eMac OS 10.4.9 (I think?) to 10.4.11, which I now have listed. But the result has been everything slower.... Driving me kwazy!
I am not too swift with the computer language, so hope you can explain it simply so I can grasp what to do.... Guess it's made me slower, too!?

One thing you can do, especially on older Macs like the eMac, is to disable the Dashboard application (the widgets) that are always running in the background.
Here are the instructions on how to disable the Dashboard application...
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050723123302403
On the other hand, if you really like the Dashboard application, you might want to re-review which and how how many widgets you are actually running. Each one eats up a tiny bit of performance. So clearly if you only really use 3 or 4 regularly but went nuts and have 15+ enabled and doing something, those 11+ tiny bits of performance start to add up.
But again, you may find if you don't use Dashboard, that your system will perk up a little bit if you disable that application.
The other list of things I can suggest (my old canned response to these types of questions follow)...
My standard list of things to do first for these weird sort of problems. There are several alternate programs that do the same things with some combining the functions of some of the ones below. So everyone has their favorites, but here are mine...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system, especially any external drives that you use for iMovie and iDVD projects.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac (after running Cache Out X you are given the option to restart the machine).

  • Transferred from O2 and now very slow speeds Pleas...

    Hi
I recently transferred over BTTB from O2 broadband where I was having a consistent 3MBps connection.  Now my IP Profile has maximised the line at 1MBps and my speeds have drastically reduced.
I am certainly not happy with my service at the moment, and despite many calls to India with many "line tests" and 24 hour monitoring, it has not changed.
My speedtest and Hub details are posted below and am hoping that someone can help me with some advice.

Suggest you check your phone line for noise by using the bt quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 if you hear any noise phone bt and report a voice fault do not mention broadband your profile is low because of the number of disconnections once the noise issue is sorted out your profile will rise normally after 3 to 5 days also connect your hub to the test socket at the back of the master socket and do not restart the hub also how long have you been with BT for your broadband

  • New mobileme calendar

I upgraded to the new mobileme calendar and now when I open ical I have 2 calendar groups. 1 group called "on my mac" and one for "mobileme". I don't understand why there are 2. Before I had just 1 calendar on iCal and it was automatically synced with mobileme. Now when I add an event am I supposed to add to mobileme or "on my mac" or both? Anyone know how this is supposed to work?

    Greetings,
You may want to go to the New Calendar section on the MobileMe support page and review it's contents. It has good information on the function of the New Calendar: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/
The "On My Mac" section are local calendars that exist only on the computer.
__Add calendars here if you want them to only be visible on this specific Mac
The "MobileMe Account" section are server based calendars that appear on MobileMe, your computer, and any other computer/device to which you add your MobileMe account (this takes the place of syncing the calendar as the calendar simply appears on all these devices).
__Add / make changes to Calendars listed here to see the changes appear wherever this MobileMe account is used.
If you are seeing the same calendars listed under both sections follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3505
I deleted all my "On My Mac" calendars and only have the ones under the MobileMe category.
    Hope that helps.

  • I just upgraded to the new mobile me calendar and now all my calendar entries on iCal have been erased. As I type this the calendar entries are still on the mobile me and iphone calendars. How do I restore the calendar entries to iCal?

I just upgraded to the new mobile me calendar and now all my calendar entries on iCal have been erased. As I type this the calendar entries are still on the mobile me and iphone calendars. How do I restore the calendar entries to iCal?

Please always post your System details when you have a query. The upgrade to the new MobileMe calendar produces different results, and different problems, with different versions of OSX.
Snow Leopard: during the upgrade process your iCal calendars should be moved to MobileMe (this can take some time and you have to wait for it to happen). Once done, your iCal reads the calendars from MobileMe so any changes made in either place will be visible immediately. If this has not happened then this Apple Tech Note provides instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3397
Leopard: when the upgrade is completed iCal on Leopard will not be able to see the MobileMe calendars until an additional process is carried out, detailed in this Apple Tech Note:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330
Tiger: iCal on Tiger cannot read the MobileMe calendars, period. The only workaround is to upgrade to Leopard, or Snow Leopard if possible (Intel Mac required).

  • Error messages after new MobileMe Calendar upgrade. Solved?

Quick rundown of what I've been through and how I have solved my problem.
I have a MacBook running 10.5.6 and I also have Bento 3. Recently Bento (Filemaker) told me that I would have to complete a few steps before upgrading to the new MobileMe calendar. So I followed the steps exactly. (URL: http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7846/~/setting-up-bento-for-th e-new-mobileme-calendar)
After completing the steps. I proceeded to upgrade to the new calendar. Upgraded in less than a minute and then after opening up iCal on my mac & importing my calendars, thats when things started to go wrong. I kept getting error messages on almost every even I have ever created. I could barely even quit iCal due to all the error messages. Also, many of my events werent there after importing and the progress wheel kept spinning. Complete DISASTER! (*Luckily, I made plenty of backups before doing any of this so I was safe*) But Still I had NO iCal!
I searched and searched and could not find a complete solution. So what I did was the following and so far I believe it could be the solution to all of you guys's problems.
I followed these instructions on this website (URL: http://answers.makeitwork.com/how-to-reset-ical-on-your-mac-or-how-to-clean-up-y our-ical/) **I followed these exactly**
    They are below:
+Export any Calendars you wish to retain after you reset by clicking on the Calendar you wish to retain and go to File > Export… > Export…+
+Repeat the above process for every Calendar you wish to keep. (Make sure you remember where you saved them)+
    +Quit out of iCal+
+Go to Finder and click on your Home icon to display the Library folder.+
    +Open that folder+
+Open the Calendars folder in the subsequent window+
+Delete all the contents within that folder+
+NOTE: If you open iCal at this point, it will initially appear that you cleared everything. Within minutes, however, everything will come back.+
+Go to your Utilities folder and open the Terminal application+
+Enter the following command: rm -rf ~/Library/{Caches,Caches/Metadata,Preferences,Application\ Support}/iCal+
    +Exit out of Terminal+
    +Open iCal and…Voila! Brand new iCal!+
But that did not completely work. So before doing this again, I went to my iPhone and quit syncing calendars on my mobile me account. And chose to ERASE every calendar on my iPhone.
After doing that and repeating the process above, I opened up iCal and boom, it worked. Then after I had the calendars setup the way I wanted on my MacBook, I proceeded to go to Preferences>MobileMe>Sync> and then chose to sync
I then went to Me.com and checked to see if the calendar was operable and it was 100%. I could do everything like before. Then I went back to my iPhone and just turned Calendar syncing back on in my mobileme preferences.
This has solved all my problems 100%. Hope this helps someone. Just remember that as long as you created a backup of your Calendar you should be safe.
    -Cody-

Well... seems I didn't have any answer on this. I fiddled a bit more but I have to say that I really came to wits' end at this stage. A couple of observations though:
    * I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
    * I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.
    Thanks!

Tap on any give date in the monthly view and you will be taken a list of event, the default position being the date you tapped.
The icon just to the left of the search icon provides a master list view of events.

    Hi there,
More then likely, the old version was installed independently from the App Store. The article below goes over the process for removing these application.
OS X Lion: Install, update, and uninstall apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph4524
To uninstall other apps, drag the app to the Trash (the Trash is located at the end of the Dock), and then choose Finder > Empty Trash. If you change your mind, before emptying the Trash, select the app in the Trash, and then choose File > Put Back.Warning: When you empty the Trash, the app is permanently removed from your computer.
