Upgraded to OS 10.4.7 /Epson Printers Sylus C82 and Stylus 740 won't print

My two printers stopped working after upgrading to 10.4.7. both printers connected directlty through USB. I have a Stylus C82 and a Stylus 740. I switched to the S 740 thinking it was a printer problem, but after printing normally a few pages, the same happened to the S 740.Won't print with black ink, the printer head moves as if printing, but the page comes out blank. I have reset the printers from both, the the Printer Browser window and the Printer Setup utility using Reset Printers. (Nozzles and Ink are fine on the printers). I have tried to print docs in different applications (Word, TextEdit, etc) but the same happens. I have reinstalled OS10.4.7 from CD but still the same problem.
The message that shows at the console when printing:
Attempt to release a printing object without first doing a retain!!!
The cups error_log at /var/log/cups reads the following:
E [29/Jul/2006:11:24:49 -0700] [Job 5] fatal: Communication error with the printer. Please reset (or turn on) the printer and try printing again.
E [29/Jul/2006:11:24:49 -0700] PID 338 stopped with status 255!

  • Epson Stylus C88+ won't print from iPhoto 6

Recently bought an Epson Stylus C88+ printer to replace the Stylus C86 that is not printing well anymore. Discovered that the C88+ does not print from iPhoto 6.0.5! The printer does print from Photoshop Elements 2 and does print documents fine. When we choose "Apple P" it starts the printing process, makes the starting noise, but then stops and the red exclamation point appears next to the printer icon on the dock. The original driver came from the printer's install CD that came with printer. I had seen some instructions from Epson about removing and reinstalling the printer driver, so I have done the following: 1) removed the 2 printers above from the Printer Setup Utility, 2) reset the printing system in Printer Setup Utility, 3) removed the Epson folder from the Library folder in Mac HD, 4) deleted the Epson printer receipts from the Library folder in Mac HD, and 5) reinstalled the C88+ driver from the Epson website. It still does the same as before. Any othe ideas?

I'm not sure what I should be looking for in Page setup settings and iPhoto print window. How do I check the driver in Printer Setup Utility? I already added the printer after reinstalling the driver from the Epson website; Printer setup utility seemed to find the driver when I did that because the printer is listed and printer is otherwise working.
I also looked at Colosync utility as you suggested and found my computer under devices and verified the Profiles in Profile First Aid. Nothing was found wrong for any Epson device, only some Lexmark profiles were incorrect (they must be ones installed with Tiger that I don't use), so didn't do the repair.
Here is what it says in System Profiler for the printer (doesn't actually say Epson USB and I wonder what the question mark means):
    Stylus C88:
    Status: Idle
    Print Server: Local
    Driver Version: 2.72
    Default: Yes
    URI: usb://EPSON/Stylus C88?serial=FGS020609051637250
    PPD: EPSON C88 Series (1)
    PPD File Version: 1.0
    PostScript Version: (3011.104) 0
I'm not sure where they get that serial number from. The one on the back of the printer is totally different. I was a little suspicious that nowhere in the Printer setup utility or system profiler does it actually say I have a C88+; it just says C88 series, etc. It says on the C88+ download page says I would get driver v2.7aA. I guess this is the same as what I have. I was warned by Epson that the C88 and C88+ are 2 totally different printers, but when I checked the C88 download page it says I would get v2.5bA, so I don't think I downloaded the wrong driver.
For anyone else who has the same problem, I have discovered that as a workaround I can open photos in Photoshop Elements from iPhoto and can print them using Elements, so I'm ok unless I want to try printing an iPhoto greeting card, etc.
    Thanks for any additional thoughts.

  • Epson Stylus S21 won't print on OS Mavericks

    Hi,
I've been able to install my epson printer on my macbook but it won't print.
Every time I try to print, an error occurs and when I go looking for the fault, I find the following message:
"The function 'CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overaal degradation of system performance."
Is there any way to solve this?
    Thanks

On this page:  Support and Downloads - Epson Stylus S21 - Epson it looks like the last driver Epson had available for "OSX - Intel" was from 2009, so it would appear that there is no Mavericks-compatible driver for your printer.
    You could try this, though:
    uninstall all Epson apps/"utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple (if there is one)
If that doesn't work, try the Generic PCL printer setting in Printers & Scanners: OS X Mountain Lion: If the software for your printer can’t be found (the reference is for ML but it still applies to Mavericks)
if that doesn't work, see if there is a driver for your printer at Gutenprint for Mac OS X

  • Upgraded arris hi-speed router to my xfinity, now my old hp4000 laserjet won't print ethernet routed

I just upgraded to an Arris hi-speed router to my Xfinity but now my old HP 4000n Laserjet won't print ethernet routed... What to do?
It worked simply fine from my previous Netgear Router that I ran off the previous old xfinity modem (w/o builtin) router. Much Thanks for your step by step instruction.  I am running Windows 7 fyi.

On the front of the printer, probably in the Network menu, can you tell if the printer has a valid IP address, indicating that it is properly connected to your new router?
If so (and I would guess that it is), then your PC needs to re-establish communication with it:
First, go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
    Next:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Upgraded to 10.4.9 from Tiger 10.4.5 and now mac won't reboot

    Hello everybody
I bought a mac mini recently "in perfect working order" with lots of installed software and the mac engineer who sold it said it could be upgraded from 10.4.5 to 10.4.9 apple's latest. I did this last night and now it won't reboot! I get a white screen with the little wheel turning and then it switches off and gives up entirely. What can I do?

Thanks all for your help. Yes I was hoping to use a disc for a Power PC mac mini when it's an intel. I got the disc out by holding down the mouse on startup. I contacted the seller and he says my OS has got corrupted and I can get a mac doctor to reinstall it. He never included the original OS10.4.6 when he sold it to me. It was bought as sold - does he even have the original discs one wonders. Anyway I also told him that I had originally plugged in my ipod which said it wanted iTunes updating then when I had done that a message said iTunes wouldn't work unless I updated the OS to 10.4.9. Included when I updated the software was a firmware update. So the OS has become corrupted and must be restored by a Mac authorized repairer. I hope this is possible without losing the applications already installed
Anyway that's what I'll do and thanks everybody for all your great help

  • Epson Stylus Color 740 won't print after Tiger "upgrade"

Just loaded 10.4 onto my iMac G5. Now it won't print.
    Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks, guys!

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup Utility.
    You haven't tried installing anything - don't!

  • I upgraded my 2009 MacBook Pro to Mavericks 10.9.2 and now gmail won't connect, Safari has issues. What's up?

Just a week ago, I upgraded from the latest upgrade of Snow Leopard to Mavericks 10.9.2, due to the news about security concerns on all Apple computers and IOS devices. I did this upgrade at an Apple store under the guidance of a "genius".
The initial upgrade worked, but as days progressed I bagan noticing long boots of the OS, then long and longer time required to connect to my gmail account. Finally, I'm unable to connect with gmail at all.  I tried using Firefox and Safari, but to no avail.
As of today, I've had difficulty in connecting with the Apple support website as well. It took several tries throughout the day to get to this place where I could post my delimma.
Have there been similar issues recently concerning the 10.9.2 so called up-grade? I'm about to connect to my backup drive and re-install Snow Leopard, which worked fine for all general purposes.

    Your profile still shows 10.6.8.
    Try running the combo update.

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th gen to IOS 6.1 and now it won't sync with iTunes?

After upgrading to IOS 6.1, my iPod Touch won't sync. This is really frustrating as I want to add new music etc.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Epson 740 won't print, 1280 prints fine

    I'm running a 15" 1.25 ghz G4 powerbook, OS 10.4.3:
I've reinstalled the drivers, rebooted, I've deleted the printer from the list and added it back in, I've tried the gimp print driver, I repaired disk permissions (there were a lot in need of help)...but nothing helps. I can send a file to print but jobs simply stop. I can use the printer utility to clean heads and check heads on the 740, I can also print to an Epson 1280. I've also printed successfully to the 740 from an iMac G5 and even dragged its Epson driver over to the G4.
I think the issue is in the G4 but I'm not sure where. Any pointers?
(this happened the same time as apple mail completely crashed warranting a com.apple.mail.plist removal and as my menu bar reorganizing itself).

    thanks DKR.
the 740 downloads at Epson i was able to find when I checked prior to starting this thread were for OS 10.2 and under. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I made the assumption that Epson simply started bundling anything newer in subsequent iterations of OSX which led me to re-install drivers only from the OSX DVD I have....and that didn't work.
I'm at a loss on this...

  • Epson Stylus C88 won't print

I haven't printed to this printer in a while, so who knows what happened, but today, I try to print, and the print queue for my Epson Stylus C88 will show every job with a Status of "Error".
    The queue says "Printer Ready"
The Epson Printer Utility can communicate with the printer
The driver is 9.00. Software Update does not say that any new driver is available.
    I'm on Mac OS X 10.7.5
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately, deleteting the print jobs from the queue usually fixes this issue.
Then restart your Mac and try printing.
If that doesn't help, might be corrupted printing preferences.
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type of copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist file to the Trash.
Restart both the Mac and the printer.

  • Epson EPL-5700i won't print

Just upgraded to an iMac from a G4. I've been troubleshooting w/Epson support and I've already
    reset printers
reinstalled driver from OSX install disc
deleted any older Epson preferences, drivers, documents
    switched cables
    turned printer on/off
Every once in a while the printer will print one page.
First with an error message - paper size differs from paper tray and would I like to Cancel or Continue Printing and then, after it prints, an error comes up saying A Service Call Error Occurred, and then it won't print anymore. Printer worked just fine w/the G4.
    Any suggestions?

Do you get an error message?
What happens when you try to print?
Is is set as the default printer? Check in control panel>devices and printers.
Does it fail to print from all applications?

  • Epson Workforce 30 printer won't print

I have installed all the latest updates, including an Apple Epson printer update, and the printer driver from Epson's website.
Still this thing won't print. All that happens is an error in the printer queue.
    Anyone have any clues?

    Some suggestions to try
    Another USB cable
Turning off the Epson power for a minute and then back on again
Removing the print queue and adding it again
    Resetting the printing system
Note that when you reset the printing system the printers in Print & Fax are deleted, but not their printer drivers. So you don't need to run the printer driver installers again, you just need to add the print queues again. For a USB connected printer, this can be done by simply unplugging the USB cable and plugging it back into the Mac agian.
How to Reset the Printing System
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac

  • I upgraded from OS 10.4.11 to 10.6.8 and now cannot print to my Epson Stylus Photo RX595. When I try, I recieve the following error message: Error:/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed. Is this a driver issue?

Is my inability to print from my Intel iMac with OS 10.6.8 related to a driver problem? I checked the Epson website for up-to-date drivers, but they appear to only have print drivers good through OS 10.5x. I did the Apple software update yesterday so everything is up-to-date. Is there no support for the Epson RX545 under OS 10.6x?

When you upgrade from a previous OS there is always a chance that you will bring some setting that is not compatible with the new OS. This can be the driver as noondaywitch suggests but it can also be the core printing system. In the case of the latter, it is a good idea to reset the printing system when a core error occurs. Note that the reset sets the printing system back to default and removes your currently installed printer and scanner queues. But it does not remove the supporting drivers, so you only need to install the driver again.
How to Reset the Printing System
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Scan/Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac
Just one additional thing to note. In checking the supported printer list for 10.6 from Apple, your RC545 is not listed so running the Software Update will not provide you with a driver for this printer. So if Epson does not have a driver for 10.6, and it appears that Apple does not provide one, then what you have already from the previous installation is it. And if this doesn't work, then you may have to look at either an alternate driver or getting another printer. But let's wait and see what happens after the reset.

  • Printing with Photoshop CS4 with Older Epson Printers

I am looking at upgrading to Snow Leopard, but having had some trouble with Leopard and CS4 working well with my older Epson printers (Stylus Pro 4000 and Stylus 1280) I am somewhat hesitant. Has it been established that the older Epson printers are fully supported by Snow Leopard?

I am about to install CS4 with OS 10.5.8. Before I get in to a new set of issues, I thought I would post what currently is working for me with CS3. I have been using Gutenprint 5.2.4 to print to my ancient but beloved Epson Pro 9500. When I first tried Gutenprint 5.2.4 with the basic settings, the prints were washed out and pink.It took me two weeks of trial and error in terms of tweaking settings, but I am now able to get better prints than with the old Epson driver that only runs in OS 9, using PS7--but I still keep a G4 with true 0S 9 to print photos to maintain consistency with previous printed work that has been editioned and sold. What forced my move to OS X and Gutenprint was that new photos that I had worked on in PS CS3 and then opened in PS7 did not print--or rather, lost info and then printed as dark green, which others have mentioned elsewhere in discussions of OS and software compatibility issues. Photos that were originally worked on in PS CS2 or earlier are still printing just fine, so in my case at least it appears to be a compatibilty issue between different versions of the PS software that is producing the green. For good info on what all the Gutenprint settings do, see http://osdir.com/ml/linux.printing.gimp-print.devel/2006-01/msg00035.html
You have to let the printer control the process, not Photoshop.
