Upgraded to SL ... iCal problem

Just upgraded from Tiger to SL today. Everything seems to be ok so far, although none of my applications were placed in an "incompatible" file as promised ... even though I have some OS 9 apps on this drive.
My major concern is iCal. When I launch it, I get the following error message "*The file couldn't be saved because you don't have permission.* To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info." It gives me one button (Okay), and when I click it, iCal quits.
I have a real simple setup, without MobileMe or Entourage. There were a few alarms which were set up in Tiger. It would take maybe 15 minutes for me to do them all over again, it's a real simple setup. But I can't get into iCal to do anything.
I tried repairing permissions several times. I get the message
*ACL found but not expected on "Applications/iCal.app"*
followed by:
*Repaired "Applications/iCal.app".*
Then I launch iCal and it gives me the same error message and quits.
In desperation I went into Login Items and removed iCal Alarm Scheduler and restarted, but got the same result.
I'm out of ideas ... please help.

Thanks, Kev, that wasn't precisely it, but you got me in the right direction.
I just changed the permissions on the calendar files in ~/Library/Calendars, then launched iCal and got the same error message.
Then went back and looked at the permissions on the folder Calendars. It was set to Read Only.
Once I fixed that, iCal launched normally.
I thought that was the kind of thing that is supposed to fix itself when I run Repair Permissions. No matter, I'm in now. Thanks!

If you're not using chrome you can just go to adobe's website (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) and download the newest flash player.  You run the .dmg and then open the application, which updates flash.  With the latest version of flash there should be a preference pane within system preferences to allow you to change settings and check for updates.

What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

  • 7.01 to 7.3 Upgrade - Logon Screen - "Logon Problems? Get Support" occuring

    Hi
We have upgrade our ABAP and JAVA stacks from NW 7.01 to NW 7.3.
After the upgrade is the "Logon Problems? Get Support" occuring on our portals logon screen. In 7.01 this was controlled with the parameter ume.logon.logon_help - however after the upgrade we do not see this parameter anymore.
Screen dump (requires a couple of clicks)
    http://www.filefactory.com/file/c26d20b/n/Portal_Logon_Page_Issue.jpg
Any idea about how we remove the "Logon Problems? Get Support" part?
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Torben

    Hi Torben,
On my fresh 7.3 installation, everything is clean and ... fresh ...
So, for example, the built in group AnonUsers only has the user Guest as it's solely relation (no parent, no child groups); the guest user has the Guest role, which has (via it's groups) roles Everyone and Guest; onbly the role Everyone as got UME actions.
All together, this sounds much like an upgrade issue (on my fresh 7.3, there is no group "J2EE_GUEST" at all).
    Two possibilities to go:
    - Open an OSS message (should be done in any case probably, to report this issue to SAP, so that this can be fixed);
    - Check the UME consistenty by yourself (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/44/aecb4253217037e10000000a422035/frameset.htm)
Maybe the second point already will fix some things; would be great for you, anyhow, I still would advise to report this issue officially to SAP.
    Hope it helps

  • Serious ical problems after 10.6.3 update

    dear forum,
since my update to 10.6.3 ical has serious problems.
right after the update ical reported that it had not the rights to access to the calendar cash file.
after some days this problem fixed itself. but since then ical has a very strange behavior:
the last event pops up at least every hour and i cannot make any changes in the calendar. e.g. when i delete an event it reappears a second later. despite of this the system update starts every day and i cannot change the frequency of updates in the system preferences.
    does somebody know any help?
    best wishes
    hans

    p.s.:
i just recognized that things are even worth. in addition to the ical problems safari does not remember any bookmark i made. after relaunch the new ones are gone, only the bookmarks i made before the 10.6.3 update remain there.
    spooky, isn't it?

    recalibrate your battery.

  • I really am struggling to like the upgrade, but the screensaver problems are awful...I have tried most of the solutions offered here, and the problem still persists...PLEASE fix it, Apple. I wish I had not upgraded my ipad.

I am really struggling to like this upgrade, but the screensaver problems are so disappointing...I have tried most of the suggested solutions but the outsized photo problem still persists on my ipad. Pretty close to a deal breaker!  Please fix this, Apple.  I really wish I had not upgraded...can it be undone?  I really dislike the camera roll, too : (

No one from Apple monitors these forums, so it isn't the place to voice complaints or suggestions. Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
It's the best place to make complaints, recommendations, or just mention stuff.
    There's a screensaver with iOS? I don't think so.

  • Upgrading to Tiger Installer problems

Ok, thanks in advance for giving a glance, and, Happiest of Holidays.
I did search and still doesn't fit my situation...
Upgrading to Tiger-retail box from OWC. I use an external partinioned 200g firewire drive as a B/U and bootable OS/software tester before installing on the Pismo. The drive has 10G space available on the bootable OS partion.
Start the Tiger DVD installer it begins and after installing Base System part 1 and moving to Running Installer Script the process stalls; doesn't crash - just stops: The FW drive stops blinking and the DVD stops spinning....
OK maybe i overlooked something etc... Have to erase the OS partition; clone 10.3.9 from the pismo to it and start again. This time do all the checks: Run disk utility, Tiger cache cleaner etc... all works well, even boot and work on the drive for a few days. Start the upgrade process again, stalls at the exact same place. I want to run Tiger on the FW drive prior to the Pismo to check it out and i don't relish the thought of having to start from scratch if problems occur installing on the Pismo....
This time i printed the log file which i include below.
I called OWC tech dept. - they said i probably don't have enough disk space for the process... the process told me it only required 3.5G. They didn't offer any further knowledge.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
    Peace

  • ICal - problem creating events in Exchange calendar

Hi All, this is a weird one to describe, so please bear with me...!
My client is on Snow Leopard at the moment, so does not yet have access to iCloud (upgrading remains an option but he is in no hurry). He is, however, having a confusing time of it using iCal on his Macbook.
He has linked iCal to his corporate Exchange account, and certainly he can view all the events within his iCal. However, when he creates a new event, it does not get created within the Exchange calendar, but rather in his local calendar, and then gets overlaid, visually, on top of the Exchange calendar. Consequently, this created event does not synchronise with his iPhone, because it is only "known about" on his local MacBook. Sorry if this sounds a little confusing, but do you guys see the problem?
Another, minor-ish, point is that the new event he creates locally always gets colour coded in a way that he seems to have no control over. Can anyone explain how the colour coding gets determined when a new event is posted?
To sum up then, he seems only to be able to read events in his Exchange calendar, but cannot add events in a way that they then get synced correctly.
    Paul

I just barely had this problem.  I restarted the program and it worked.

  • Since upgrading to Maverick Ical wont sync on ipad and iphone 4

iCal (7.0) wont sync with iPad (7.1) or iPhone (7.1) since upgrading to Maverick (10.9.2). I noticed iTunes (11.1.5) no longer has the 'info' tab I used to go to for settings. How do I sync my Mac, iPad and iPhone with iCal and Address book?

For some of us, the additional problem is that once you give in and go iCloud, no rep will tell you there are iCloud limits on iCal's size, so that if you're calendar is say 10 years old, with 10 events per day, and there's a 25K event limit, it won't work, even if you buy all the storage in the world. Which means that's syncing is OVER.
So far I've tried three alt calendars: Fantastical (rated one of the top iCal alts); Pocket Informant (allegedly capable of superpowers); and Calendars. Not a single one is able to do the one simple task of
    1) integrating an ical ics file,
    2) placing a calendar program on the desktop and the iPhone
    3) keeping them both in sync.
This is really getting to annoy me. Chelsea, a tech support supervisor, offered that if I pay $99/year I can become a developer and get the next beta iTunes which will allegedly offer local syncing. Great.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, iCal event invitations are not working well.

Since upgrading to Lion last week, I am having problems with sending iCal event invitations to large groups of people (say 10 people or more). Although my iMac, iPhone, and iPad iCals show that invitations have been sent, only a few of those invited have actually received event invite emails.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any insight into the problem or solution?
    Thanks in advance.

    If you want.
or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard?  If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone.  It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea.  See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it.  That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible.

  • Upgrading to new iCal removes Entourage syncing

I use Entourage at work, and sync the calendar with MobileMe so that I can get calendar info & notifications on my iPhone.
This isn't supported by the new iCal - but rather than let me stay on the old one (which I'm perfectly happy with) I'm being forced to make the upgrade by May 5th or none of my calendars will sync.
Apple support have only said for me to file a feedback form.
    Very frustrating!

I think that Apple should've been more explicit that the only real way to update is to unregister all but one main computer, run the update, and then re-register all the other computers. In any case, this is how I downgraded. There may be a more efficient way:
    0. Be sure that you have backups of your calendars, which you made before upgrading. If you don't have these, you are in trouble.
    1. Unregister all computers tied to the mobile me account except one, called the 'main computer' for lack of a better term.
    2. Turn off calendar syncing on all iPhones, each time saying to delete the calendar data
    3. Go to http://me.com/calendar/downgrade
    4. Click the 'downgrade' button (I think that's its name)
    5. Wait a little while until the calendars have been downgraded
    6. Delete all the calendars from the main computer
    7. Restore all the calendars from the backup
    8. Sync the main computer with mobile me
    9. Re-register all computers and tell them to replace their data with the data from mobile me
    10. Turn on calendar syncing on your iPhone
A bit of a pita, but I found that this worked better than turning off sync for the calendars and then turning it back on.
My problem when upgrading was that floating timezone events had their times shifted, which for me is a big deal.

  • Upgrading to new iCal?

Every time I start up either my MBAir or MBP I get the message to upgrade iCal to the new app. However, when I go to mobile me and attempt to upgrade I also get a warning that if I upgrade I will lose all my groups.
Can anyone tell me what exactly I will lose if I do the upgrade? Because my iCal holds vital company information I can not even think of losing that. However, after reading the comments here it seems that the iCal upgrade more or less is a total start over and any past information is lost ... forever.
    Thanks for any help.
