Upgraded to Win 7, now can't open .pdf files after installing Acrobat X
I upgraded OS to Win 7 from Win XP, reinstalled my Acrobat X software and now am unable to open any .pdf files created and saved prior to upgrading OS and reinstalling Acrobat X. I see LOTS of discussion here about this issue (There was an error opening this document. Access denied.) but could someone tell me in SUCCINCT terms what I need to do to restore my ability to open files I created previously. My version of Acrobat X is 10.0.0. Thank you for assistance.
HI szwarycz,
I will be happy to help.
Please tell me whether you have Adobe Reader or it Acrobat Professional X.
Meantime you can also try to go to edit preferences under categories choose General under general there is button called Select Default PDF Handler.
Click on that button and choose Adobe Acrobat X. Check the screen shot.
Also you can try right click on any PDF document and choose option "Open with" their you need to choose option "Choose default application"
then you need to search for Acrobat application. Also you can visit this Microsoft article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/change-default-programs#1TC=windows-7
Regards.

It sounds like the file association (.pdf → Adobe Reader) is not set.
The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall, then reinstall the Reader.
Download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ -
I upgraded to Lion and now can't print PDF files and Acrobat reader doesn't work anymore. What can I do to get it working?
If you upgraded and were using a version of Acrobat Reader that was legacy, that is PPC compatible, then you will have to upgrade to a version compatible with Lion as Lion no longer has Rosetta to interface with the legacy software.
I know that Acrobat, full version, 10 works with Lion...use it myself. -
I downloaded the Adobe Reader and now can't open PDF files
I downloaded the Adobe Reader after notification on my MacBook Pro and now can't read PDF files
Yes, I was able to open PDFs until I downloaded the new version as per the alert on my MacBook Pro. I was using Adobe Reader often.
I downloaded whatever they sent me my way (11?) and my operating system is Mac05 (10.5.8-10.9 English). The message says I’ve already downloaded it. It didn’t mention file.org. I looked in my preferences and didn’t see Adobe Reader, only Flash Player.
I’m not terribly computer savvy, so I’m trying to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. -
I upgraded to Mavericks and now can't open/save files
I upgraded my system to Mavericks 10.9.2 and now Creative cloud Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator (the few programs that I've installed) will now not either open files, or if they do takes 3-5 minutes for simple files, and if they do open and I try to save them again they take even longer to save.
I've re-installed these programs... have throw away preference files, changed finder preferences, restarted multiple times, even zapped pram... nothing has worked!!!!
HELP!This forum is actually about the Cloud, not about using individual programs
Once your program downloads and installs with no errors, you need the program forum
If you start at the Forums Index http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says ALL FORUMS) to open the drop down list and scroll
These are the direct links to the 3 forums
http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign
http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator
http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator
Adobe/Jive have a BAD title for the SEARCH THIS FORUM function
Go to any/all of those forums, and, in the area just under Ask a Question, type in
maverick
or
mavericks
You may now read previous discussions on this subject... be sure to click the See More Results at the bottom of the initial, short list if the initial list does not answer your question -

Message there is a problem with Adobe Reader/Acrobat. If it is running please exit and try again. 0.104
It is usually quicker to get a reply if you provide all relevant information, e.g. your operating system / your Reader XI version.

Can't open pdf files after downloading from Safari 6.0.5
I was wondering whether anyone else has encountered this bug. Ihave a retina MBP with Safari and Firefox. If I save a pdf to the desktop via Safari I get the following message when I try to open it "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired".
When I download the same file via Firefox, it opens no problem.
It would, therefore seem to be a Safari 6.0.5 pdf problem, rather than an Adobe Acrobat Pro (11.0.3).
I have tried with both extension displayed and not displayed options, no difference.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks for reading.I encountered the same problem. In my case, the culprit was a plug-in in the Internet Plug-Ins sub-folder of my User Account's Library folder.
Here's how I proceeded, based on a suggestion by Carolyn Samit here:
<https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5117605?start=0&tstart=0>
1. Open the Finder.
2. In the Finder menu bar, click on the heading Go. Scroll down to "Go to Folder," and then click the mouse button again.
3. Copy the following phrase:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
and then paste that phrase into the field in the navigation window that appeared at the end of Step 2.
3. Click Go.
4. If you find a plug-in named AdobePDFViewer.plugin, drag it to the Trash.
5. Quit and then relaunch Safari. Then try to load in Safari a PDF from a web site. Then try saving it. Once saved/downloaded, try opening the PDF.
When I followed this procedure, the corrupted-PDF problem went away, thanks to Ms. Samit's suggestion. -

Since the upgrade to IOS 7, I can't open PDF FILES. They download all right, but I only see like a pic. I can't open, can't save to pdf, can't see it. Can't nothing. Any help?
I have just downloaded Adobe reader on to ipad 2. I tried opening a Pdf in ibooks and then Adobe reader. I can only get the introductory pages. I can open the full dcument using adobe reader on my Mac?
It is one of those rare occasions where Apple comes off badly against microsoft. Opening a pdf attachment using windows is a doddle. Opening a pdf document on my mac seems to require me to save the document first - clunky to say the least, opening a pdf on ipad - impossible! All in all pretty rubbish. Can't believe they don't have something like this nailed. -
Loaded os maverick now can't open xls file
I just updated OS Maverick and now can't open xls files - any idea?
What version of Office? If 2004 or X, upgrade to 2011. Or use one of the free alternatives.
Other than that, please provide more details. -

I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader. (I had it until recently.) None of the "helps" seem to help. I can't even open Adobe Reader now.
Ignore the instructions about "edit options", to install Adobe Reader download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and run the installer. Alternatively, a direct link for the latest version of Adobe Reader is:

The following article should help you set it up - [[opening PDF files within Firefox]].
