Upgraded to Yosemite, lost all sound fonts

I recently upgraded my OS from Mavericks to Yosemite. Everything was going well-ish after the upgrade (generally slower than Mavericks, which is annoying) until I noticed that some instruments weren't making a sound in a Garageband composition. Turns out my sound banks (Library > Audio > Sounds > Banks), where my sound fonts are stored, are now empty. I've checked both Libraries, under Macintosh HD and "User", but no sign of them. I've searched using Spotlight and they're nowhere to be found.
This is pretty frustrating as I've spent a long time gathering sound fonts for use on various projects, but they've all been removed in one fell swoop. Thanks Yosemite.
Anybody else come across this? Am I just unlucky? I'm hoping this is the only chunk of files to go missing after the upgrade! I guess time will tell.
If you're thinking about updating, copy your sound banks folder to a safe location first!

You don't need to have your photos and music in the cloud. Mine aren't. I have my libraries on the computer.
If the iPhoto app came with the computer, then it is probably not in the App Store under your purchases unless you purchased a newer version. If you have it on your iMac and didn't upgrade to 10.10.3 yet, check the version on it. Version 9.6.1 is what you need. If it isn't, update it. Then copy it to your laptop.
If you don't have the new Photos application on the computer with 10.10.3 running, then something didn't update properly. Search the drive to be sure it isn't there. If you can't find it, then you might try running the combo updater here:

After upgrading to ios5. I have lost all sounds,  y?

Have you got notifications muted ? Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • After upgrading to iOS7 I lost all sound for my 4S except for the ring when someone calls. I can't listen to music, I don't get text or email notifications. I have tried rebooting?

Following upgrading to iOS7 I lost all sound for my 4s except for the ring when someone calls. I can't listen to music, I don't get text or email notifications. I have tried a wipe and reinstall, I've tried hard rebooting, I tried erasing all of my music and reinstalling it, I checked my Do Not Disturb, and I tried the AssistiveTouch mute button. Nothing. I can't even play music through bluetooth or headphones. Can anyone help please as its driving me mad!

I experience this problem too. I am using iPhone4 and just upgrade it to iOS7. And now I can not make outgoing call. I checked all the setting, and nothing wrong. I even replaced my sim card with the new one, still can not help.

  • Urgent! Please help! Lost all my fonts and can't print!

    Hi folks,
I have suddenly lost all my fonts from Illustrator (not from PhotoShop or other Adobe products) and now I can't print from Illustrator to any of my printers either. I'm on a windows machine, which I'm not too used to as I'm a mac user most of the time and I've tried to both repair and reinstall - neither of which worked - it reinstalled but has the same problems.
    Any ideas folks?
Preferences were set to default when I re-installed illustrator and I'm on XP if that makes a difference.
    Any helpers out there?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dara

The best technique we fid on the mac if you want to restore the settings when deleting corrupt preferences is to launch AI and use it after you have it cleaned up  or better after a fresh install. arrange all your workspaces and panels shortcuts etc. then copy the settings folder to a safe place and always use that after trashing the settings folder. No harm in giving yourself a fresh start.
One of the reason's for this is recently someone wrote that they had to trash the settings folder three times before they got things back to normal.
Reason for that is that computers often overwrite but do not completely erase what they overwrite and three times usually insures a good replacement of data. Also on a mac and I believe on a pc there is a similar file there is a file call com.adobe.illustrator.plist which can be corrupt as well also in the user preferences so you sometimes have to trash that as well.
Also sometimes it is a question of the cache files, settings, font cache and application support files that are corrupt singularly or together.
Also I am not certain that moving it to one location and back is a good idea on a pc it is fine on a Mac usually.
Also often the corruption is such we have been told by support to not only trash this folder but to empty the trash as well.
So that is what I know about this issue.

  • I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1444 running Vista 64 bit. I have lost all sound.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1444 running Windows Vista 64 bit. I have lost all sound. There's a red x next to the speakeer icon on the bottom right of the screen. I have reloaded drivers, checked Device Manager, tested sounds, HP Support Assistant says I have the latest BIOS installed. I tried a one prong earphone in the two prong headset and got no sound. The mute button and the volume slider don't work either.
Please help me if you can.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Save the latest Audio driver.

If you are in the USA (is that Pearland, Texas), with iTunes 10.3 and iOS 4.3.3 or later, you can download your previous purchases directly to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer.

  • Lost all sound on my HP Pavilion dv6 notebook

I have a HP Pavillion dv6 notebook with a Widows 7 operating system and have lost all sound. Any suggestions as this is a 6 month old notebook?

I had the same issue last night after an automatic BIOS update.  I read about 7 pages of posts that seem to deal with the same issue and found a combination of actions that seem to have restored my audio functions completely.  I posted the solution and it resolved the issue for at least one other user who commented back.  It it works for you, please also post that it worked for you.  I suspect there are alot of users out there that have or will be experiencing the same issue.  It would be nice if HP would post the appropriate solution, it seems to have been going on for awhile.
    1. Through 'Device Manager / Sound, video and game controller' I uninstalled my audio driver (IDT High Definition CODEC) and also deleted the driver software for the device.
    2. Through 'Programs and Features' I uninstalled the IDT Audio Software (vers 1.0.6418.0) that was installed with the BIOS update.
    --> This forced a reboot.
--> When my system rebooted it automatically searched and found the appropriate audio driver -- now I've got audio and Media Center works fine...
    Hope this helps you.

  • TS1702 I lost all sound in my game apps why?

I lost all sound on all my game apps why?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
IDT Audio Installer - Windows 7.
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • HT3986 Lost All Sound in windows 7 on my macbook air

Well, recently i just installed windows 7 on my mac using bootcamp, but i lost all sound on windows (works on OSX), and the "f"  keys dont work.. (f1-f12)

As this is almost a daily question, take a look at other threads.
See what audio chip you have in Device Manager, then find - download - manually install that after you have installed the Apple drivers.

  • Lost all sound on Windows 8

i have lost all sound on W8. hvae checked plugins and they are all up to date. have never had good sound on this computer (Pacbell Easynote TE) anyway and am considering getting speakers. However i recently downloaded Windows Movie Maker as was having problems with videos taken on my phone that were taking long time to attach on e-mail (i have gmail), if they semed to big for normal 'attachment' . Have also started using their (gmail) Google drive to see if that would help speed things up, but didn't, so tried to load Cloud etc. I think that somewhere in all this the sound went, but it's a minefield (for me anyway) to try and work out. I have done the obvious and checked the Volume levels and they're all supposedly on and set at highest. Any help greatly appreciated. thanks

Wellthis is strange, i have now checked the videos i mentioned above and now have sound, be it all very low, but that has always been the case with this pacbell since i got it. Also checked some others on Facebook and they have sound too - why would that change overnight??
