Upgradeing the graphics card on the 3000 N100

I am wondering if its possible to upgrade the graphics card for my Lenovo 3000 N100. I play Eve Online and would like to be able to upgrade to there premium graphics package. Also, I was told that I should reload my OS about every 3 months on my laptop. Is this true? I run the windows vista that came with the laptop and have had no problems with it. If I need to do it I will. I just dont know if its true or not. And when it comes to computers, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. Lol! Not even close to it. So any advice would be greatly welcomed. Thanks for your time and help.

Usually (95% I've met) notebooks are not upgradeable with videocard. You can replace CPU/memory/HDD and even some cards like WiFi&Bluetooth, but not video. This is due to different heatsink design in different models and also different vide module sizes, while CPUs/Memory/HDD have their standarts, which makes the replacement easier.
Regarding OS:
Not a problem for me to reinstall an OS since I do it for others twice a week usually. So I have something to say here. While using a system it's getting filled with garbage. More applications you install - more garbage you have. Registry corrupts, temp files are collected... No need to reinstall until your system is completely unoperational.
So.
You just have to clean temp folders from time to time (run %tmp% and %temp% to view your temp folders), check your system by CCleaner for garbage and corrupted registry and (if you want) use Ashampoo Uninstaller. This program is extremely helpfull. It analyses system before install and after. Makes a log. Then you just uninstall it by Ashampoo - all is wiped out. All registry keys (including those hidden for trial and shareware progs) and all files af that soft you uninstall. You keep your system as clean as it possible - like it's Windows's first run. Only onething worrying me - never tried it for Vista.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in the HP ENVY 17-j053ea?

    Hi
I'm considering buying the HP ENVY 17-j053ea for use as a portable workstation for applications such as Max Design, autocad and photoshop as a second system for when I need to be away from the office but still need the ability to work.
This machine seems to have a lot of bang per buck and is more in line with my budget than a full on portable workstation.
As far as upgrade options I presume I could max out the ram at 16GB and put in an SSD as the main OS and application drive and use the main 1TB drive as the mass storage unit.
What I'm wondering is if it possible to upgrade the graphics card in this machine?
I don't imagine I would be attempting such an upgrade myself but assuming I leave it into a professional is this possible.
My worry is that with some of my heavier model files I could feel the limitations of the mid range portable gfx card onboard. I could probably live with it if it is not an option but just putting feelers out.

    Thanks for the reply Paul
    I see.
    That doesn't sound feasible so.
I can manage the other 2 upgrades within my budget but things seem to get quite expensive on the higher end platforms very quickly.
It's my first foray into the laptop/workstation arena so I'm not that familiar yet with clever upgrade strategies.
I did have the use of this model for a few days and It is a really nice overall laptop, both aesthetically and value wise.

  • Does Lightroom2 render from the graphics card or the processor?

I have a PowerPC G4. My graphics card is a GeForce4 MX. I recently purchased a Radeon 9600 Pro Graphics Card. If I install this will it significantly improve my rendering speed in LR2? Or, does LR2 do most of it's rendering from the processor? Thanks for the advice.

I use and on-board IGP. After installing a dedicated PCI-E Radeon 2400 XT, I, well, have not noticed any difference at all, even in UI eye-candy effects smoothness.

  • Is there anyway to upgrade the processor and/or the graphics card on the mid 2011 21.5" iMac?

I am a gamer and I am always looking for my games to run as smooth as possible. I feel that if I step it up a notch it would do much good for my computers performance with gaming. I could be wrong.
    Specs:
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Quad core
    Memory: 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
Is there anything I can upgrade that will improve my computers performance on the games I play?
    Thanks

    RRFS,
I couldn't agree with you more.
iMacs are all in one computers with very little user upgradability.
iMacs, in particular, are not tinkering computers. The are not PC towers, at all!
To many things meticulously crammed into avery confined enclosure.
iMacs only come in pre-defined configurations from Apple or you can, iniitially, custom order an iMac with whatever available components Apple presents as custom upgrade options.
Plus I doubt your parents would allow you to pry into a two month old Mac and void the one year and subsequent upgrade of the AppleCare warranty.
And if you tried and screwed something up in the take down/re-assembly process, you not only be screwed with AppleCare service, youor your parents would have to pay Apple's very expensive repair services out of pocket.
By the way, if your parents or you do know, you can extend out AppleCare for another two years after the initial warranty period. I would strongly advise getting the extended warranty plan when the time comes.
    Sorry for the bad news.

  • Firefox 4 for the Mac OSX is hanging much too often and does not respond to the "QUIT" Command for a time, i dont know if this is just me, but im running Quad Core i5 2.6ghz and 8 GB RAM the Graphics card is the Macbook Pro factory one

this happens when the browser opens websites in tabs after a period of time, i dont know how the Hang occurs but FF4 is not secure enough for me, so i downgraded to FF3.6 just for stability.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in a 2010 MBP

    HI,
I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade/replace the graphics card in the 2010 MBP (a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M) with another card.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi T,
It's soldered onto the logic board, so no go.

  • 128Mb RAM vs. 256 in the graphics card?

I'm going to buy a Macbook when they are released; and initially was definitely going for the 1.8Ghz version. However, I can save a few hundred by going for the 1.67 and losing 512Mb RAM (cheap to upgrade) 20Gb disk-space (not important) and going from 256Mb to 128Mb video RAM on the Radeon X1600.
Does anyone have any idea of the real-world impact the drop in video RAM will have? I will mainly use the MAcbook fro Aperture and Photoshop and some gaming (plus email, web-browsing etc. which I know will see no change).
    Thanks,
    Steve

Is this a case of 'get the best graphics card' or do you think that the extra 128Mb will be used by Aperture?
If Aperture placed the whole RAW file in the memory of the graphics card; and the GPU then decodes it into a 16-bit image file, that would occupy around 52MB (for my 1D - 8Mb RAW plus 46 Mb 16-bit image).
I can appreciate the speed of the card making a difference, but I'm not so sure about the RAM, and the money saved would go towards a nice monitor.

  • Can i add a video graphics card to the HP TouchSmart 420t

I just purhased an HP Touchsmart 420T and I'd like to know if I can add a video graphics card?

This is the same answer that has been given for every model over the past 3 years and continues to be the case.
For all intent the graphics cards in the Touchsmart desktops are NOT upgradable, even with a "standard" MXM card since the motherboard and BIOS are custom made for HP and do not support additional non-HP graphics cards and their firmware/BIO

  • Graphics card in the MacBook

I'm about to buy the black Macbook, but I'm afraid that the Intel GMA 950 graphics processor is not good enough for the apps like iPhoto and iMovie.
Will I have to buy a MacBook Pro to run these apps satisfying or is the graphics card in the MacBook enough?
      Windows XP Pro

The entire iLife suite will run beautifully on the MacBooks with the GMA950 chipset. It is only when you attempt to play some higher end games that the chipset falls short.

  • FC Studio 2 definitely uses the graphic card to render...why ?

    Hi,
FC Studio 2 doesn't work like earlier versions at all for rendering.
It now uses the graphic card exactly like Motion, so my displays are lagging when i use other apps while FC Studio is rendering.
Is it possible to make FC Studio rendering only by CPU like earlier versions ?
    thanks

The FXplug type of effect uses the graphics card, and the others don't... (FX Script effects- the "older ones"... You can see which is which in the effects tab of the Browser. There's a column there that denotes the type. You can even choose which effects will be available in FCP 6 manually... look at the effects tab in list view to see which is which. Staying away from the FX Plug category of effect keep your GPU from being used.
In the bottom of the Effects menu is where you select to choose what's available, and to choose "My Preferred Effects", click on that column next to the ones you want to show up... (Preferred column in the list view of the Effects tab.)
The FX Plug category of effect will render faster, using your GPU to do so.

  • How to disable the graphics card of my macbook air please?

how to disable the graphics card of my macbook air please?

I'm guessing there is a language issue here.  The graphics card is the actual hardware (chip) in your computer that allows it to create graphics and show them on your display.  There is no way to disable the graphics card on your Air because there would be no way to use it (it would not be able to display anything on any display).  This is a little different on machines with multiple graphics processors, but that's not the case with your Air.  I'd imagine you know what you want to do, we're just having trouble understanding your question.

  • Any luck with graphics cards on the advanced dock?

Looking for some advice on which graphics card to purchase for use with the Lenovo advanced dock. I've tried - unsuccessfully - to use the ATI Radeon HD 3650 from VisionTek. The dimensions were right and the card fits, but I'm having no luck getting it to work.
Has anyone gotten this or another ATI graphics card to work with the advanced dock? There is very little documentation on this. Do I have to downgrade the graphics card to the X1300? The HD 3650 has a better spec, incl 512Mb vs 256Mb on the X1300.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
    -Roel.

I have a T61p with the FX570 internal card, 4Gb RAM, 80Gb HDD, running Windows Vista 64 bit Ultimate edition.  Since Vista (64) will only support one video driver, I had to remove the X1300 that I had in the dock for XP Pro (32).  So I bought the FX570 (PNY VCQFX570-PCIE-PB 256M RT ) from NewEgg and dropped it in.  In Vista, I had to delete the internal card from Device Manager and reinstall the Driver Suite from Nvidia.  The Suite picked up both cards and I chose to use the Dock as primary.  I did not have to change ANY BIOS settings, I left those alone.  I used the card's CD to load the drivers, NOT Lenovo's.  I do not use the NVidia Control Panel to change any settings, just Vista's Adapter Properties.  Both monitors are running at full res (1920x1200 @ 32bit), both are DVI connected and both are 24" Dell's.
    * I ran the exact same setup in Windows XP, with the execption of FX570, with no issue at all.*
    * When you install the card in the dock, you will need to "tweak" it in the slot to move the fan away from the underside of the dock.  If you don't the on-board fan will contact the dock and make a heck of a racket!*

  • Will Apple let you upgrade your graphics card?

    Hi There
About two mouths ago i order a new 27" imac (ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512MB). i mention to my concerns about the graphic card inside the imac but at the time i could do anything about it, its was the best i could get. What i would like to know is will Apple let people upgrade there graphics cards from the old 4850 512mb to the new 5750 1GB...
    Thanks

Actually the video card in the 27" iMac is not soldered on. But Apple does not support changing the video card, and the card in the new iMacs probably would not work in the previous model, so in essence your comment is correct.
Johnny, if makes you feel any better, this benchmark indicates that the 5750 doesn't significantly outperform the 4850. So you probably wouldn't see much benefit even if you could upgrade.
    Regards.
