Upgrading 10.2.8  to at least 10.4

I would like to upgrade to a higher version. What would
be the best suggestion.
Mary Lou

Hello Mary Lou,
It's always best to post as much information about your computer as possible to get the best and most accurate help.
If you could post back exactly which iMac you have it would help in recommendations to upgrade your OS. This Apple Knowledge Base Article may help you to identify exactly which model you have. Also, if you can post back how much RAM memory you have installed.
System Requirements are as follow:
"Mac OS X 10.3 Panther System Requirements"
"Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger System Requirements"
"Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard System Requirements"
hope that helps some and post back with additional info about your computer,

  • Upgrading from 10.2 to at least 10.3.9

Hi, does anyone know how to upgrade from 10.2 on a G3 imac to at least 10.3.9 and where to go?
We just bought a printer for it, and the requirements are OS 10.3.9 or 10.4.x or 10.5.x. Any help would be appreciated, thank you

    1. Check that your iMac meets the requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2176.
If no, you are sol. Else,
    2. Verify the the firmware update has been done:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1395.
    If no, do it. Then,
    3. Find a full retail version - not something bundled with another Mac - of OS 10.3 (any version), and install it.
    4. Do a Software Update to bring the installed 10.3 to whatever version you want.
The requirements for 10.4 are here:

  • 27"imac with 16gb ram, wanting to upgrade to 32gb. what is the least problematic third party memory to upgrade to?

I want to upgrade from 16gb to 32 for my imac 27", release date Sept 2013. I've been reading about Crucial memory problems with random restarts and kernal panic notices as late as today on the Crucial website. Any tips on a third party memory brand that is least problematic?

I personally would steer clear of the others listedi n Baby Boomers link.  Not because they may or maynot be good I am just not familiar with them.
Just because you are not familiar w/the website, the OP should steer clear?  <Edited by Host>
For the record, I have been using Ramseeker website since 1999.  Not once have I ever had a problem w/any of their RAM.
I would never recommend a website if there were known problems w/their products.

  • How to upgrade 10.2.8 to at least 10.4.10 for using iPod Touch

Just received an iPod Touch, and my mac operates on 10.2.8. I need to upgrade to at least 10.4.10. Can I download the upgrade, or do I have to buy the software and load with discs? Any major issues I should be aware of when upgrading? I have a 1Ghz processor.

10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 are major upgrades that must be purchased and installed via CD or DVD. Only 10.5 is currently available from Apple unless you can find a copy of 10.4 still on the shelf at an Apple Retail Store (doubtful) or other reseller.
10.4 comes only on DVD so you must have a DVD drive in your iMac to install. There once was a CD-for-DVD exchange program but it's expired.
Buy only full retail install disk sets. The grey system disks that come with specific models may not work on your computer.

  • My mac has been crushed where I forced to re install the original OS 10.5.8 now I want to upgrade to the mountain lion but it needs at least 10.6 version where I did purchased it before but it has been deleted after the crush.

    hi,
I had OS 10.5.8 and I did upgrade it to snow Leopard, later after a year or so my mac has crushed where I forced to reinstall the original OS 10.5.8. now How can I upgrade to mountain Lion or at least to retreive my Snow Leopard?

You need to use the Snow Leopard DVD to upgrade your computer. If you can't find that, phone the online Apple Store and order a new one.

  • Upgrade from SCM 5.1 to SCM 7.0 SR1 (with NW 7.0 EHP1 SR1)

    Hi folks,
we are trying to upgrade our SCM5.1 to SCM 7.0 SR1. There seems to be a problem in the phase, where SAPup is trying to detect the needed CDs / DVDs. SAPup recognizes that "FRP" is used within the system. There appears a dialog to enter the mount points for the DVDs required for the upgrade.
It says <<Enter at least the mount point for the DVD titled "FRP Software DVD">>. All other needed media is accepted, but not the DVD with the FRP-Software.
SAP Note "1300960"  explains, that as of SAP Business Suite 2008 onward, no media without a MID.XML file will be accepted for upgrades (e.g. media containing Add-Ons).
I have opended a message to SAP Support, but there is no solution / workaround until now. I cannot skip the phase and therefore it is not possible to launch / continue the entire upgrade.
SAPup Version is "7.10/7, build 31.010 for UNICODE"
Has anyone faced the same problem with no-MID.XML based media?
    Thank you for any advice!
    Kind regards,
    Marcel Jentsch

    Hi,
We just upgraded from SCM 5.0 to 7.0 sp9.
You need not deactivate the DP planning areas before upgrade.
We did not face any issues because of this.

  • I Phone 4 - problem with bluetooth after upgrading to ios 4.2.1

Since I have upgraded the software on my I phone 4, I have noticed a problem with my hands free kit in my car using bluetooth. When I make a call the sound comes through the system ok, but if I dial to voicemail the sound doesn’t come through. I never had this problem prior to the upgrade. Any suggestions?

At least there is a way! only problem by doing this is, on the vodafone network you have to input your phone number followed by a pin every time if you access using +447836 121 121. The short key 121 is the way forward! Will this be fixed? is there a way of taking the I phone 4 back to previous version of software?

  • 1503653.1 - should change the comptability to 11.0.0 from 10.2.0.5 before manuelly upgrade?

    hi All,
i am trying to follow through the steps.
I will be porting the data from the old box into a new box ( windows 12.1.0.2.0)
I run the pre- tools script -> preupgrd.sql
it give me error or some warning to fix before doing the upgrade.
My question is , before i port over the data via a cold backup, should i first change the compatability to 11.0.0 from 10.2.0.5.0 (source db) then do a cold backup then port over the data to the new box then do the upgrade steps?
of course i can change the init.ora process to 300. As for the rest of the warning, i am not too sure is it necessary for me to do it since i will moving to a new box. Warning likes, EM database control, etc

A full backup isn't neccessary specifically for this upgrade.  Just port your data over, change the compatibile parameter on the spfile/pfile on your target upgrade host and upgrade away.
Your source will be your backup so I would be inclined not to change things on there.
You can ignore some of the warning like EM dbcontrol as it states you can do it manually prior to the upgrade to save time, otherwise it will be done as part of the upgrade process anyway.
Other warnings like. OLAP and the timezone file (timezone is a recommendation) you will need to pay attention to and action, as well as the network ACL warning:

  • Can't upgrade ipod touch to ios 5 beta 2?

Hi everyone! I recently tried to upgrade my firmware from ios 5 beta 1 to ios 5 beta 2 (I have a developer account, paid the $99 and everything).
The upgrade to beta 1 from 4.3.3 was pretty much flawless. When I tried to upgrade to ios 5 beta 2, it seemed to work until the last step, at which point the ipod touch was off and could not be turned on. When connected to a computer, it said it was stuck in recovery mode. I couldn't switch my firmware in Organizer any more, not even back to beta 1.
I restored down to 4.3.3 again cause I figured it would wipe the whole thing and let me upgrade back to beta 1 at least. That much worked, I have an ipod with 4.3.3 on it.
Now when I try to upgrade back UP to beta 2 or even beta 1 again, I get this error: "Could not allocate buffer (file exists)" and the ipod goes back into recovery mode, and I must again restore down to 4.3.3.
What file is this, how can I delete it, and how can I upgrade again to beta 2? This ought to be the last time I need to upgrade with a wired connection, since all updates from Beta 2 onwards are OTA as far as I know.
I was quite fearful of "bricking", but a friend who is far more familiar with the inner workings of the ipod touch than I am has assured me that since the computer detected it in recovery mode, it wasn't a lost cause.
I was originally attempting the install from a slightly older version of Xcode, which is probably the root cause of this problem and I am now kicking myself.
    Thanks for the help!

  • I upgraded to iTunes 12, and promptly lost my internet radio playlists. How can I recompile my Internet Radio playlist in iTunes 12?

I've been eyeballing iTunes 12 and not enjoying it. I didn't much like the original upgrade to iTunes 11, but at least I kept my beloved Internet radio station playlists.
After upgrading iTunes to the latest version, not only is the interface once again all screwed up from the previous version (LITTLE changes, people. Not BIG changes) now I can't find how to create a playlist of my most commonly listened-to radio stations.
This is kind of a deal-killer for me with iTunes, because when I'm taking care of kiddos, I can't stand to hear the same songs over and over and over again - it's far easier for me to plug in the station list and select from the list of my favorites (much like having my radio station presets in the car when we're driving) instead of scrolling through everything.
So, does anyone know if this functionality (adding Internet Radio Stations to a playlist) is gone forever, or is this yet another Apple "upgrade" like the iPhone 4 and its "wonderful" new phone antenna?
Seriously, it's like the product management group of the software just decided that convenience wasn't healthy for its users and went right to removing long-time functionality that was the only real reason I kept iTunes around instead of another music content management system like MediaMonkey or WinAmp.

Click on a station and drag to the left. The playlists sidebar will open up. Drop on the playlist you want to add to.

  • Step by Step on Upgrade to OS X

    I have 2 computers:
    - iMac DV running 9.1 (320MB and no OS X)
    - iBook running 9.2.2 (385 MB and it has OS 10.0)
I need to upgrade both to OS X. I have searched all over Apple's website and cannot find a simple step by step process to updgrade these computers and I don't even know which software or which if any memory to buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, LB :o)
    iMac/iBook   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hi lbunt,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Both your computers are compatible with Tiger. You should upgrade the memory though to at least 512 MB. Then upgrade the iMac to 9.2.1.
Make sure you buy the Tiger retail full install DVD: Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger".
Insert the DVD into your drive and reboot while holding down the c-key. Then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Refurbing / Upgrading Nano

Hi guys. I've got Nano 2Gb and as many people got it quickly scratched up. I'm wondering if it is possible to send it back to Apple for an upgrade to 4Gb or to at least replace the front panel of the Nano for a new one.
    I would appreciate any information
P.S. If it's not clear from the question, I am prepared to pay for it.

the colorware service will void the Apple warranty
Are you sure? Because I contacted Colorware directly and asked them that exact question, and they wrote back and said that their understanding is that since they don't open the case in any fashion, the Apple warranty is still valid.

  • What is an upgrade distribution system?

In Apple discussion document 2465 [  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465  ] I found this question and answer:
Q: Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?
A: With all upgrades, backing up your data at least twice has been a given.  Hardware can fail independently of downloads and upgrades, though may happen simultaneously.  Software may be found to be incompatible that has not been tested with the new upgrade, or combination of other software that might be installed with the upgrade.  It is also strongly recommended once your backup is complete, to shut down your computer, remove all but Apple wired keyboard and mouse (notebooks remove all input devices).  Then once done, reboot, and go directly to the upgrade distribution system available.
Third party system tools, modification, and "maintenance" applications should be verified as compatible, or removed until known to be compatible.  Check with developers how to remove if it is essential to use Lion before those applications become compatible.  Most "maintenance" tools that deal with system cache, prebinding, are not really maintenance tools.  Ask on forum when are the appropriate times to use them before assuming they should be used for upgrades or otherwise.
What is an upgrade distribution system?
    Thanks.

Well, if you happen to have several computers that run the same versions of software
and have similar need to upgrade them, essentially offline to not duplicate the costs of
bandwidth activity (and thus perhaps lose access due to overage fee or penalty) the
idea to download copies in a more traditional sense may be more difficult than with the
previous versions of OS X. With up to three Macs at similar OS X version build series,
it made sense to save all of the download compressed document or application files to
share with the other computers, to install & update them offline. And fully restore them
should the need arise, with complete copies of upgrade & updates, saved offline.
Now these require an Apple ID and other steps, the path isn't quite as clear. There may
be a path but it isn't as simple as copying a .zip file to a USB flash drive, and plug that
drive into another Mac, and drag the file to its desktop in Finder. It may be that simple
if you were to get the download without the baggage of ownership tags it may imply.
This is an area I haven't gotten into much, with only one Mac tied to an Apple ID.
The latest OS X is Mavericks 10.9.5, it is OK. I don't push it much with only 4GB RAM.
And the other computers mostly run Leopard 10.5.8. One Tiger 10.4.11. Another that
is seldom turned on, Mac OS8.6 (PowerMac 7600.) None are networked by server.
You could say I kinda made a mistake and kept a new old-stock Mini quad core server
that was ordered in December, so here it is. Although it asks on occasion for me to get
the AppleCare Plan, and extra RAM (it can use 16GB) it has two 1-TB HDDs. Sadly
both are only 5400-RPM rotational, not 7200-RPM; to supplement data transfer time.
Anyway, if you get a fair deal on a refurbished or new-old-stock i7 Mini quad core, it
may be a server model with dual hard drives. You could upgrade them & the RAM too.
And choose to not use the Server. With less RAM, now discontinued model runs OK
with the as-shipped Mavericks. Older stock was said to have Mountain Lion. Better yet
in situation where RAM and system resources are less. Yosemite likes even more...
Well, have fun with it, if possible...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • [Forum FAQ] How to upgrade the Linux Integration Service

    Symptom
When you move a Linux guest virtual machine from the legacy system to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host, you may face the incompatibility issues. The most common problems are that the mouse pointer maybe a little inaccuracies, the guest VM cannot use the
    dynamic memory.
    Cause
The cause may be that the integration service not compatible with the Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host.
    Solution
We need to upgrade the integration service to at least version 3.5.
In this demo, we use the CentOS 5.8_x86_x64.
You can refer to the following steps to perform the upgrading.
    1. Before install the Integration service you can use the following command to check the version of the installed Integration service. (Figure 1)
    #su root
    #/sbin/modinfo hv_vmbus
Figure 1: check the version of the installed Integration service
    2. Download the Integration Service 3.5 image from here.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41554
    3. Insert the Integration Service 3.5 image.
    a. Open Hyper-V Linux guest VM console.
    b. Click-> Media->DVD Drive-> Specific the Integration service image location, insert Disk.
    4. Mount the image.
If automount is enable, the Integration service image will be mounted automatically. If not, please use the following command to mount the image. (Figure 2)
    #mount /dev/cdrom /media
    Figure 2: Mount the image
After that, we can see the image content. (Figure 3)
    Figure 3: Imange content
    5. Upgrade the integration service.
Use the following command locate to the current Linux Distribution Directory. In this example, we select the RHEL58. (Figure 4)
    #cd RHEL58
    #./upgraee.sh
Figure 4: Locate the Linux Distribution Directory
When you see the message, "Linux Integration Service for Hyper-V has been upgraded. Please reboot your system", it means the upgrading is finished.
    6. Reboot your Linux system. (Figure 5)
    Figure 5: Reboot the system
    7. Confirm the upgrading.
After Linux boots up, use the following command to check if the upgrading is succeed. (Figure 6)

  • Upgrade path from CC&B 1.5.x to 2.4

    Hi,
Has anyone done an upgrade from CC&B 1.5.15 to 2.3.1 or 2.4? The release notes in 2.4 say that the one-step upgrade is only available from 2.1 and above, so I would like to understand what steps are necessary for upgrading 1.5.15. Should I even attempt an upgrade or should this be a completely new implementation?
    Thanks,
    K

    1. See #2.
    2. There are two options available; you can either buy an iLife 11 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay without upgrading anything else, or you can buy Mac OS X 10.8 and then iPhoto 11 from the Mac App Store. The second option may require upgrading the computer's RAM(at least 2GB are needed), and any software incompatible with 10.8.
