Upgrading 2nd computer from Contribute 3 to CS4-problems?

I have CS4 on 1 computer and want to install it on a 2nd computer.  I bought the download version for computer 1 in March 2009.
I was able to download the required files onto computer 2 but then when I tried to install it, I wasn't able to install it because I did not have the serial number for the previous installation of Contribute 3.  So I tried to use the trial version of CS4, but this gave me a message saying that the trial version would delete any working drafts.
Is this true, or can I safely install and use the trial version of CS4 on computer 2 until I am able to get the serial number for the original installation of Contribute 3?
Thanks.  I would much appreciate **any** suggestions about upgrading a 2nd computer from Contribute 3 to CS4.

From doing a web search with those disc specifications it would seem those are grey colored discs intended to only work on another model computer, probably an e-mac.  Unfortunately people sell these old discs that came with a computer but don't realize that unless somebody has an identical model computer they are no good to most peple and should really be kept with the original computer.
What you need to find are black colored retail version discs that are intended to be used for upgrading any Mac that can run Tiger.  These aren't easy to find and although I would think people would be really be getting rid of old discs now that Tiger is 4 generations old, it doesn't seem to work that way.

Drag the icons from the Dock, go to the Applications folder and drag Safari and Mail (one at a time) to the Dock. Don't release the mouse button until the adjaxent icons move out of the way for the one you're adding.
That should compensate for the updates to Mail and Safari introduced with SL.

  • I upgraded my computer from vista to windows 7, losing my itunes library in the process - how can I sync my current itunes with my ipod?

I upgraded my computer system from vista to windows 7 losing my authorized itunes in the process - I cannot sync my ipod now without losing everything on it.  Is there a solution for this?

At a guess you followed the process in HT1364 - iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder which would have moved the media folder to a new path of your choice. This process leaves the library database files back in the original location of <User's Music>\iTunes. Often people assume that all they need is now on the external drive and wipe the internal drive, or discard their old computer, before backing up the all important iTunes folder. If you have a backup of your user's profile folder from before the upgrade the iTunes library folder should be in there somewhere. Restore it to <User's Music> and your original library should pop back into existence. The external drive would need to have the same drive letter that it had previously.
A more effective way to relocate the library is to move the entire iTunes folder to the external drive, then hold down shift when starting iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. You would then choose the file iTunes Library.itl in the iTunes folder on the external drive. If this is the way you moved the library before then that is how you should now reconnect to it. Changing the media folder in preferences doesn't change which .itl database file is opened, nor does double-clicking on an .itl file directly.
If you no longer have the original .itl file then you will have to build a new library and import the media to it. If you need to do this I would recommend you create a new library at F:\iTunes, then move your existing media folders inside F:\iTunes\iTunes Media before importing. This will avoid the creation of duplicates and make sure the library is in the correct shape going forwards.
If you have an iPod or iOS device my scripts ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats may well let you recover ratings, play counts & playlists from the device.
When you've fixed up your libray you should consider getting a second external drive to backup to.

  • I currently have CS 5.5 Maser Suite Collection, I will be upgrading my computer from PC to Mac laptop and Mac desktop... What would be my best option regarding Creative Suite upgrading?

    Hi
I currently run CS 5.5 Master Suite Collection.
I plan to upgrade my computing platform from being a PC laptop, to a combination of a Mac laptop and a Mac desktop.
Can you please advise on the best fit in terms of upgrade for my Adobe Suite? Do I need two purchases, one for laptop, one for desktop? Or will one purchase cover both?
Can I be logged into both laptop and desktop att the same time? For example using one to work on Photoshop while the other renders video and animation in AfterEffects and Premiere?
would I need to install each component on each platform, or can I have a common set up easily rolled out?
    Cheers

Normally one purchase is good for two machines, but that is under the condition that only one machine is using the purchased software (the suite in this case) at any given time.  If you intend to be using the suite on two machines simultaneously then you will need two licenses (or subscriptions, depending how you upgrade).

  • I upgraded my computer from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Professional and I am attempting to install CS4 Web Premium.

I downloaded the latest CS4 from the support site and installed, entering my registration number.  Installation seemed to go well but when I try to open Photoshop, I get a message that there are some files missing in the application folder and I must reinstall.  I've done this about 3 times now. Can someone help?

  • Can I upgrade a computer from Snow Leopard to Lion by using an already upgraded account? I have multiple computers on the same account.

I already have an upgraded desktop, but I also have a MacBook Pro that I want to update from 10.6.8 to 10.7. They are registered under the same account, but the MacBook Pro is under a diferent email. Is there a way I can use the software I have on my desktop to upgrade the MacBook Pro, or do I need to take it to an Apple Store?

Launch the Mac app store on the computer you want to update.
To use your Apple ID at the Mac App Store
Choose Store > Sign In from the App Store menu.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
    Then redownload Lion.

When I try to register the product as an upgrade, it does not recogonize my CS3 extended serial number. Did Adobe steer me wrong?

I recall you have to get some kind of code from them to unlock the upgrade.
It was discussed here on the forum a few months back.

  • Need help Upgrading (Upsell version) from CS1 Premium to CS4 Premium

I just purchased the new IMac (late 2009 version) that comes with Leopard. I also purchased an Upsell of CS4 design premium to update my CS1 Premium. Has anyone done this before? Do I need to first install the original CS1 before upgrading to CS4? I have the serial number for CS1 just not sure if it will install to begin with, since it was created for G5 not the Intel version.
Anyway, what's the difference between an Upsell and an Upgrade? It costs more, but I was told that's what I need. Do they really have different discs inside the box?

Just have the serial number and disk for CS handy. You don't need to install it.
What you have is not technically and upsell. An upsell is from a different product such as Photoshop to Creative Suite. There are two upgrade paths for the suite. From CS/CS2 and from CS3.

  • I recently upgraded my computer from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate and now i have to delete all the data in my iphone?

i have an iphone 3gs. i recently uprgaded my computer which ment it went from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate.I want to add new music from my computer to my iphone but it says i have to restore it and loose my itunes content. If i do that will i loose everything including texts and contacts? Help ! im so confused because im using the same computer as the first time!

The iPhone "thinks" it's a new iTunes libarary because your computer has a new operating system.  As long as all your music and other media is on your computer, you will be fine.  The iPhone will be erased because it "thinks" it's a new iTunes library, and the "new library" (which is actually your unchanged data) will be put back on.

  • Updating music on 2nd computer from Purchased music

I want to listen to my purchased music on my second computer. I went to the "advanced tab" and clicked on check for purchased music, but I only get 7 of my 100 or more songs that I purchased on my other computer - I am using the same login on both computers.
    Thanks!

Hello, Stacy, and welcome to the Discussions.
You cannot download tracks from the iTunes Music Store more than once, so if you want them on a second computer, you have to copy the tracks from the computer on which they were initially downloaded. The "Check for Purchased Music" option only works to download tracks which have not yet been downloaded. See these articles:
iTunes 4: How to copy music between authorized computers
And if you happen to also own an iPod:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
You can also use the iTunes Sharing feature if your computers will be on the same network; this will allow you to listen to the tracks on another computer without having to copy them. See "Sharing" in the iTunes Help for more information.
    Hope this helps.

  • Stopping 2nd computer from auto updating

I basically understand manual update vs. auto update and have already read how to set up a new account to prevent auto update, etc. Things are good: I'm set at auto update, and if I plug the iPod into a 'foreign' computer it does give a warning instead of auto updating. That's exactly what is wanted.
But here's my problem. I have two computers and I do want it to update from the one, and issue the warning from the other. But somehow neither of the primary accounts on my computer and my wife's computer is recognized as 'foreign' though they are different computers, different user names, etc. Plug the iPod into mine and it updates, losing all my wife's files and vice versa. I'd like just one computer and one account to "own" this iPod, but two do. How can I remove the permission from one of them? Thanks.

I'm not sure if this will help as it refers to iTunes 4 but you can have a look at it: Both of your computers think they "own" your iPod
However, there is a keyboard command you can use to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, (on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go.

  • Sync a 2nd computer from main computer's time capsule backup

I have a mac mini and a mac book. Time capsule backups the mac mini. The mac book was synced from the mac mini when I bought it. Now the two computers are no longer synced. I would like to re-sync/restore the mac book home directory from the time capsule backup of the 'same' home directory on the mac mini. I don't want to backup both computers. I would like to sync the macbook every now and then from the backups of the mac mini. Is that possible using time machine? Both computers are on the same network and can see the same time capsule in principle. But I don't see how to configure time machine to use the backups of the mac mini -- the source I would like to be primary. Any ideas?

Your suggestion is what I want to do. I don't think I expressed myself clearly in the original question. Thanks very much. So I tried...
When I select TM on the target mac with the "option/alt" key held down, TM complains that "the storage location for TM backups cannot be found" -- it offers the choice of canceling or setting up time machine backups. I think I don't want to setup backups on the target mac, so I then opened up disk utility app to see how to mount the TC onto the 'target' mac. So far I haven't figured out how to do that. DU only sees the local disks on the target mac, not the TC on its local network. Let me read some more on DU options if I can find the right docs. I may need some advice on how to mount the TC onto the target mac if I cannot find the info I need. Thanks again.
