Upgrading 8 pro to 8.1

Hi
I am trying to upgrade windows 8 pro to 8.1 . First of all it is taking long time to download from Microsoft store and giving an error "
"Something happened and the windows 8.1 couldn't be installed. Please try again Error. code : 0x80071a91"
Then i tried to remove machine from Domain. It installed successfully but i observed after upgraded it has created one more window called Winodws.old .
Can someone please know the fix what could be the issue.

Advice/opinion on upgrading Pro 9000 II to Pro 10 or maybe Pro 1

Hi everybody - opinions welcomed please.
I currently run 2 x Pro 9000 Mk IIs and 1 x HP Designjet Z2100 44" (this runs exactly the same ink and printheads as the HP B9180 but a lot bigger).
I do a lot of printing for design and art students from the local university. Their work usually consists of a mixture of flat pale colour/grey, vivid photos, bad photos, design graphics, text .. everything on one A3 page .. many hundreds of different pages in their busy times. Predominantly on smooth white matte photo paper.
I mainly use the 9000s for these but have always struggled with the 'magenta warm' appearance of the prints, especially on pale grey backgrounds and yellows. I experimented with many papers and have heeded the huge amount of advice on the 9000 being too warm, but have decided that I need to change.
For pure greyscale, I always use the Z2100 which is beautifully neutral, but it struggles a bit when it comes to some colours not 'popping'. It is also very slow and laborious to load single sheets.
Reading around the subject, the Pro 100 looks to have similar warm issues.
The Epson 3000 is an option, but am running very scared of clogging and wasted ink on swapping matte and photo papers.
So, for mainly but not always matte photo paper, would I be better served by the Pro 10 or maybe Pro 1? Quality-wise, the Pro 10 would definitely suffice. My concerns being that 1) The prints may still be a bit warm 2) The pigment ink would be rather dull on matte paper.
I so SO wish that HP had upgraded the B9180 with a better range of colours, similar to the Z3200!

11g upgrade pros and cons

Folks,
If there's already a similar thread, apologies in advance.
I wanted to gather some information on the pros and cons of upgrading to 11g from 9i and from 10g (Enterprise Editio) rdbms on Solaris.
What are the challenges you have faced (especially if you have tweak SQLs/optimizer etc.) post upgrade?
Any issues DURING the upgrade?
If I missed anything obvious that worth bringing up, please do so.

Pros/cons depends on the database type and activities ( no. of user/ data/ transaction etc).
but i would suggest upgrade your database (9i is history).
you will get many new features in database which are not available in 9i.
1. upgrade on test server
2. check the performance
3. everything goes well
4. upgrade on live server

Is it possible to Upgrade FROM Final Cut Pro 2 TO Final Cut Express 3 HD?

I have FC Pro 2 on a crashed-harddrive MacPro...
Can I use that serial number and upgrade to FCExpress 3 HD?
Or can you only upgrade Pro to Pro and Express to Express?

I doubt - as FC Express is one line and FC Pro/Studio is another.
It has not worked for me - so I've got up-grade to FinalCut Express 4 and FinalCut Studio 2 - non of them or previous version was able to upgrade to the other.

Logic Pro 9 upgrade anomaly

I've just performed the upgrade to Logic Pro 9 from Pro 8, using the Logic Studio V2.1 Upgrade Pro box (brand new sealed product).
During the installation process, after entering the correct serial number for the upgrade, I didn't get the dialog box asking me to enter the serial number of my earlier version of Logic; the installer went straight to the Custom Install pane.
On first launching Logic Pro 9, I was asked to register online; no problem. After quitting Logic 9, I thought I would try launching Pro 8; when I did the dialog box appeared asking me to register the 'new' software - instead I clicked on register later and it seemed to launch and behave normally.
My question is: should I be concerned that the installation process didn't go exactly as specified in the manual?

So, you are missing that card from your Logic Studio 1 (LP8) box then...... unfortunately.
They are too easy to misplace.... I know I lost mine for a while and then found it by pure chance when i was moving. Since then I copied the info and placed it in Notes on the cloud so no matter what I have a copy...
Anyhow, hope you get a replacement one fast...

Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts

Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?

I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful

Upgrade from CS2 to CS4, Should I?

I am down to the last day to take advantage of the discounted price on CS4. I currently have CS2 and would like to hear your opinions on whether or not I should upgrade, pros/cons, and issues regarding installation. I am running Vista Ultimate 64bit with 4GB memory with my CS2 now with no performance issues. Thanks in advance.

Provided the video card meets the requirements for CS4 (see below), I would definitely go for it.
There are a lot of improvements.
1,024x768 display (1,280x800 recommended) with 16-bit video card
Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0

Pro and air's led display

Hi, Guys
Is there anybody know what is difference between pro's led display and air's?
why air's looks brighter than pro's? since apple upgraded pro on Tuesday, is it going to get exactly same display as air's?

Keep in mind, guys, that the larger the display, the tougher it is to light both uniformly and brightly. You have a larger area to shine light out of.
The MacBook Air is a much smaller screen than the 17" MBP and significantly smaller than the 15.4" MBP. All three notebooks use LED backlit screens, but you would expect the smaller screen to be slightly brighter. Achieving the same brightness with the larger screens would require additional LEDs, which would burn more power.
Having said all of that, I find that the brightness on the 15.4 MBP is very very good. Unless I'm outside, I have to turn it down a few pegs to save my retinas!

How much better is Logic Pro?

Would it be a real disadvantage to get logic express over Logic, i mean has it still got all the loops, synths, drum machines and actual audio recording capabilities?

Pro is much better imo, but depending on your budget and needs you might not need it. What I did was to purchase Logic Express first, learned it, liked it and then upgraded from Logic Express to Logic Pro once I found that I wanted the plugins and some options found in pro, this winter. That's a good route since it doesn't cost much more (Express$ + Upgrade$ ~= Pro$) and allowed me to have a much better idea for why I wanted Pro. I might have chosen not to buy it if I found so, but I did (and a the extra time accumulating money helped :-))

Upgrading From Pro7,2 To Pro8

I Just Bought The New Upgrade *Pro 8 logic studio* ,And Currently Working With Pro7. When Loading The New Pro 8 Will I loose My All My Songs And Hardware Info, And If So How Do I Back Up And Save My Current Songs???

If you have the old Jam Packs already installed and you want to mantain the Apple Loops compatibility with logic 7... don't install the JamPacks that are included in Logic Studio...
Logic 7 cannot read .caf apple loops.
(the "original" JamPacks are .aif and they works in LP7 and LP8)

I bought the upgrade from Logic Pro 7.2.3 to Logic Studio,
going to install Logic Studio on my new iMAC.
I have one Logic Pro 7. XKey, can I install Logic Studio on new iMAC,
but a week to continue to work with my old computer and Logic Pro?

Should work OK:
You will may need the XS key in the new Mac when you do the install, but after that you should be OK to move the key back to the old Mac.
(Not so sure that this would be within the Licence Agreement though).

I don't have a Logic Pro serial number

I just purchased Logic Studio V2.1 UPGRADE PRO from a German Apple reseller and I cannot use it because I have to own a previous version of Logic (which makes sense since it's an upgrade).
I never had a previous version before (that's my mistake). I'm using Logic for the fist time and I don't have an old serial number.
Is there something I can do? What are my options?
I really need this software. I'm on a macbook (mid 2007) and I cannot upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

Trouble with Logic pro installation key.

Hi i purchased Logic studio and am trying to install it but the only serial key i can find is a pro upgrade key at the back of the booklet and when i enter that, i get another pop-up asking me to enter my original key. But i can't seem to find another key.
There are two stickers at the back of the booklet, but both of them contain the same upgrade pro key. Is it possible that they made a mistake when providing the two keys? Maybe one is supposed to the original key and one the upgrade pro key? If that's the case, then who should i get in touch with?

Issues with compatibility, Lion, Leopard, Pro Tools reinstall

I upgraded to Lion but now my Pro-Tools 8.03 LE m-powered, isnt compatible. I have a Macbook 2009 4 gig ram, duo intel which is now Lion. and Mbox 2 mini
So I partitioned an external drive with Snow Leopard, but now my Pro-Tools DVD installer isnt reading, nothing happens, so I cant do a clean install.
I cannot move the pro-tools files over to the new drive either. Does anyone know how I can get my Protools working on the external drive/Snow Leopard?
I cant afford to upgrade Pro-Tools. Digidesign/Avid is angering alot of people lately with all of this confusion. Its my fault for not looking into it before I upgraded.

I understand that to be a hardware/software combination that is probably written in PowerPC so it needs Rosetta to work on an Intel Mac.
Installing Snow Leopard (with the OPTIONAL installation of Rosetta TURNED ON - redo this if you did not optionally install Rosetta) should work to allow you the "dual-boot" of running Snow Leopard when you need access to ProTools 8 LE and Mbox 2 mini.
Be sure to attempt to install this software into your external drive while Snow Leopard is the operating version of OS X.

DVD Studio Pro Hangs and doesn't open up.

I can not get DVDSP 4 to open on my machine. It brings up the splash screen and then hangs. I have reinstalled it upgraded it, reinstalled my system, upgraded Pro-Applications, QMaster etc. but it still hangs on opening.
I have had it working before but my system went down and I had to repair it and reinstalled it and since then it has been doing this. It is the only program I have which doesn't work.
Any takes? I read somewhere something about BSD Systems might not be installed in my machine but what is that? Where are these things coming from?

Seems like you have covered a lot of possibilities so I have no quick solution but to add the following considerations:
1-Is this an upgrade from DVDSP3 or earlier? If so there is likely some remnants of the earlier version remaining. There is a specific knowledge base article on how to properly uninstall DVDSP (I think 2 but I suspect 3 as well).
2-Apart from the above have you fixed permissions. (Disk Utility)?

Logic Pro suddenly wants my activation code - weird

Recently when launching Logic Pro, I was surprised to receive the following message: "Welcome to Logic Pro 7. Please enter your activation code. Activation code___. The code can be found on the cover of the "Install Your Software" guide included in your upgrade package...."
I'm running Logic Pro 7.1.1 on an old Mac G4 Dual 1.25, same Mac I've had for at least three or four years, and I've had Logic Pro 7 running on it since it first came out (along with Logic 6 and earlier versions before that). Never saw this message before. Haven't changed anything other than upgrading Pro 7 via software update as updates came out, and the last update for 7.1 was a while ago. I looked through all my Logic documentation, and I couldn't find an Activation Code anywhere; though of course, my Logic USB XS Key dongle has a serial number. Sometimes I'll forget and start Logic without the dongle connected, and it will alert me with "XSKey not found!" and I'll insert it. But in this case, the dongle was inserted but Logic didn't seem to care -- it still wanted an activation number. I finally just rebooted my G4 and this time Logic did start with no request for an activation code -- and it's worked the last few times I've started it up. But I'm concerned that it might not work, again, when I'm about to begin an important recording session. Does this experience suggest my XSKey might have a problem? Has anybody else experienced this?

I just had this happen to me too. I searched for an activation code in my papers, couldnt find anything, entered some serial numbers, that didnt help. I then pressed the Quit button, unplugged the XSKey, plugged it back in, launched Logic and it worked just fine.
No idea, just weirdness.
