Upgrading a Graphics card for PowerBook G4?

I have a Dual 1GHz Power PC G4, with I am assuming an ATY, RV250 VRAM 64MB Graphics Card. Is there a better or more powerful card on the market today to upgrade what I have? Are there web sites that will help me understand the differences in graphics cards and their specs? Thanks for any info.

I have FCP 5.1.4 also, and I find it's gated not by the video card, rather, by the speed of the system, and to a lesser degree, amount of memory. When I encode, I turn off FCP displaying what it's doing, so that everything can go into the encoding.
To maximize it's encoding speed, ensure you have lots of empty disk space, have maxed out the memory, and of course nothing else running while it's encoding. I tilt the back up 3/4" or so, to get the maximum amount of airflow for cooling. Continguous disk space can be a good thing for video usage, and this Apple note talks to it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1375?viewlocale=en_US . Too bad they stopped making 7200 parallel ATA hard drives, as that could help encoding speed a bit too.

can one upgrade the graphic card in an Imac (intel based)?

While anything is theoretically possible, you would need to find another GPU that is compatible with your specific model iMac, and you would need to modify OS X to use a driver appropriate for whatever you propose to install. Future OS X updates would break it in short order. Not only that, you'd void whatever warranty that remains. It's not worth it.

Lets start out with that is an antique system with limited options because it only has PCI slots and no normal video card.  The card you are asking about does have "High Definition 3D Performance & Image Quality to Your PC"  If you are considering getting one, try the EBay market as this is really old hardware and you can get one for near nothing.  For Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Visiontek-Radeon-X1300-Graphics-Card-256MB-128bit-900106-/191175474229
Just make sure the one ordered is the PCI version.
There are other possible choices: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187213

  • Graphics Card for hp dv7 6135dx

Hi i just would really like to know if there is any way to upgrade my graphic card for my laptop?

    Hi:
Yes, you can upgrade the video card from your existing one, to any of those listed in chapter 3 of the service manual at the link below, starting on page 26.
In order to upgrade the video on your notebook however, the entire motherboard needs to be replaced.
The costs attendant to doing such an upgrade would exceed the cost of buying a new notebook with the graphics solution you want, after selling or trading yours in.

  • Upgradeing the graphics card on the 3000 N100

I am wondering if its possible to upgrade the graphics card for my Lenovo 3000 N100. I play Eve Online and would like to be able to upgrade to there premium graphics package. Also, I was told that I should reload my OS about every 3 months on my laptop. Is this true? I run the windows vista that came with the laptop and have had no problems with it. If I need to do it I will. I just dont know if its true or not. And when it comes to computers, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. Lol! Not even close to it. So any advice would be greatly welcomed. Thanks for your time and help.

Usually (95% I've met) notebooks are not upgradeable with videocard. You can replace CPU/memory/HDD and even some cards like WiFi&Bluetooth, but not video. This is due to different heatsink design in different models and also different vide module sizes, while CPUs/Memory/HDD have their standarts, which makes the replacement easier.
    Regarding OS:
Not a problem for me to reinstall an OS since I do it for others twice a week usually. So I have something to say here. While using a system it's getting filled with garbage. More applications you install - more garbage you have. Registry corrupts, temp files are collected... No need to reinstall until your system is completely unoperational.
    So.
You just have to clean temp folders from time to time (run %tmp% and %temp% to view your temp folders), check your system by CCleaner for garbage and corrupted registry and (if you want) use Ashampoo Uninstaller. This program is extremely helpfull. It analyses system before install and after. Makes a log. Then you just uninstall it by Ashampoo - all is wiped out. All registry keys (including those hidden for trial and shareware progs) and all files af that soft you uninstall. You keep your system as clean as it possible - like it's Windows's first run. Only onething worrying me - never tried it for Vista.

  • Do I need upgraded graphics card for photography with 24" iMac ?

I'm very close to ordering a new 24" iMac. I'm a photographer, shoot RAW & process in Adobe Lightroom beta, and can't seem to find out if I would benefit from the upgraded video / graphics card option. If this just for gaming and video or would I see some benefit from having it for my photo applications? I'm also debating on the value of ordering the higher speed processor for the iMac. I know RAM is the most important thing but not sure if I'm wasting $$$ on the graphics card and speed upgrades. Hope one of the experts here can help me make the right decision. I'm currently using a 20" G5 iMac with 1.5 gigs of RAM with decent success.

Here is my personall philosophy on purchasing computers. Buy the best you can with in your budget. If your budget allows the cpu upgrade and the video card upgrade get it. Once you order, you won't be able to upgrade again and who knows what the future holds. It will also help to future proof your computer. If you only buy once every 3 or 4 years then getting the better cpu and graphics card will help tide you over near the end. Also, your computing habits my change in the future. You might decide you like doing video and then the 9600 gt card will indeed help. I just don't like limiting my future use by my buying decisions today.

  • Upgrading graphics card for gaming

Hi i've been gaming on my pc for a long time now and while it's been fun games have begun to upgrade and my fps has dropped down. I play world of warcraft and i run the lowest resolution 800x600 and the lowest graphics and i get like 20 fps so i want to upgrade my graphics card now, which means i will probably need to upgrade power supply i want it like under 100 USD i've been looking at the r7 240 graphics card but idk if it is compatible. If anyone could give me tips on if that card fits my case or if there is a better graphics card for around the same price would be great. Also which power supply would be needed for the card.

Thank you for asking here first.  You made a good decision.
What BIOS does your system have?  If it's version 7, then your stuck with only access to legacy  BIOS cards, not the newest UEFI BIOS cards that requires verision 8.  Second, I'll let you input your system specs, and play around inputting various options at this gamer site.  Look for the "Can I Run It" tab near the top.   Registration is free. You can input various cards and see the performance levels.
Do not ignore this warning. Call the card maker and ask is that EXACT  model card legacy or UEFI.  The MSI GTX 750 cards do have a slider switch for legacy/UEFI. See this video.  Take the time to make the calls.  I am not promoting ANY card to you, especially because your suggesting a low budget.  At minimum the recommended specs cost $300 plus.

The tower light is still blue and i'm receiving no POST beeps. I tried using the integrated graphics and the computer works fine. I then installed a GeForce 520 and a 550TI and the computer works fine. I also upgrade the BIOS to 7.16 and tried again with no luck. The GeForce 650TI is designd for a PCI 3.0 slot but the documentation says it is backwards comaptible with PCI 2.0 (which is the standard for my motherboard). Some video cards have firmware that is not compatible with Windows 8 Secure Boot. As stated above, turn off secure boot and enable legacy boot and you should be good to go.

  • Upgrading graphics card for Pavilion 500-314 Desktop PC

I am looking to upgrade the graphics card in my HP Pavilion 500-314 Desktop PC. I was looking around and saw some forums that said it would be very difficult to do so with this PC and I have found a few that said it is absolutly possible. Unforunatly none of those forum posts were from this site except one that did not give much explanation, so I figured I would just ask.
The graphics card that comes with this PC is decent enough to run most current games, just not at the level I would prefer. I am not looking for the most cutting edge ultra mega super gamer graphics card, just something this PC can handle that would be an upgrade with 2GB dedicated vram.
Thank you in advance for any help you guys can give me!
PS This will be my first upgrade I have ever done on a PC myself outside of the ram on this same PC, so please try to keep that in mind with any explanation/answer .

Your system has UEFI BIOS, so you'll need to understand Secure Boot. Then read this to change settings.   For gaming, I would go here, and do the "Can I Run It" quiz.  Would recommend a Corsair 600W PSU.

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27” display and a 42” LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs or 1 dvi and 1 vga vs 1 dvi and a mini. I don't do a lot of Final Cut Pro, gaming, etc. I am interested in best value for the graphics card.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best graphics card for these larger displays for the best value?
    Thanks,

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

    Hi,
Try one of the below MSI specific model graphics cards.  They may or may not work in your PC but if they do then it's about the best that you can do without also replacing the power supply. These cards come with a switch to allow the card to work with legacy and UEFI mode BIOS PCs.  Know what the return policy is before your PC.

  • Satellite A100-207: Is it possible to upgrade graphic card for gaming

    Hi
I am looking to buy the Toshiba A100-207 laptop and it comes with 128MB of shared graphics.
I would like to play games and I was wondering if I could upgrade the graphics (such as a nvidia card that I could buy and put in) or are the graphics fixed?
I would just like to know if I am able to upgrade?
    Thankyou

    Hi
In my opinion the graphic card and/or the CPU is not soldered on the new notebook generation. The parts should be simply plugged on the board.
But this does not change the upgrade situation.
Possibly you will be able to remove the graphic card but Im sure you will get compatibility problems with other hardware.
The stronger graphic card produces more warmness and the temperature would increases automatically to a higher level. This would lead to the overheating issue and the notebook would either shut down or not starts.
The desktop PC technology is simply different as on the notebooks. You can also not compare the different graphic cards. Notebook manufactures uses only the graphic card chips which dont supports an own cooling module.
Simply said its not possible to upgrade the graphic card.
