Upgrading a standard user to administrator

Is it possible to upgrade a standard user to administrator status or to change administrators from one user to another?  I bought a used MacBook running Yosemite and need to make myself the admin.  Thanks for any suggestions.
Michael

Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, when you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.

  • Vista and iTunes shared library - Admin vs. Standard User

Here's a good one.....I am the administrator of the family's Vista desktop computer, my kids are Standard Users. When I log in to the computer and bring up iTunes, I am able to see and access our shared library of music on our Synology DS207+ NAS. When either of my kids log in and bring up iTunes, the DiskStation appears on the left side underneath 'shared' but when they click on it, they are not able to access the music. A dialog box appears with the following message: 'the shared library "Disk Station" is not responding (-39). Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.'
Their Standard User accounts can access the music on the NAS through mapped drives and windows explorer.
I am running CA (Computer Associates) Security Center and the firewall has the same rules in place for all of our logins. Here is the strange thing, when I change their account type from Standard User to Administrator, they are able to access the shared library of music, no more dialog box with that message. I change their account type back to Standard User and again, they are not able to access the music, and they get that message again.
When I am logged in and enter the 'netstat' command, I see the following entry under foreign address:
    NAS:3689 Established
When the kids are logged in, I see the following:
    NAS:microsoft-ds Established
I've tried a lot of different things, too numerous to even remember or mention, all with no success. Some troubleshooting measures include:
    - change the kids permissions to the music folder on the DiskStation from read only to read/write.
    - disabled (not uninstalling) tcpip v6.
    - tried every combination of new firewall rule, to include ports 3689, 5353 and every port (and range) in between.
    - file and printer sharing is off on the administrator account, and is off on the standard user(s) accounts, but enabling it does not allow access to the library.
    - uninstalled Bonjour but once I do that, I cannot see the shared library anymore.
    - upgraded Bonjour to the latest version but still no success.
If anybody reading this has other suggestions, please respond.

I actually followed this, but I still had problems that I listed above. Is there any way that when you make changes to one account (even if there is only one main account where changes are made), the changes are automatically (or at least easily) applied to the other user accounts?

  • User Photo Administration (mass upload) iview doesn't run

    Hello,
I'm trying to mass upload lots of pictures about employees to show on CLP the photo detail. I've been searching for a long time the right way to do it through the standard User Photo Administration (mass upload) iview but not success for me.
I've checked this message really similar to mine but not solve my problem:
    https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1063236&tstart=0
The iview properties are set to run as explain:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/09/d7fe40be6eef23e10000000a155106/content.htm
    This is my scenario:
    EP7 sp15
i've got a folder on my filesystem (c:\photos). In this folder i have two files
    a) mapping.properties.txt
    inside filled with:
    emp10110=10110
    USER.CORP_LDAP.emp10110=10110
    b) 10010.JPG
After starting the task the photo was not updated and there was nothing in the application log!?
What could be the problem? I can add the file manually but not through mass upload iview.
Has anybody used the User Photo Administration (mass upload) iview ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Instead of use User Photo Administration (Mass upload) using a mapping.properties file, forget it and use a easy DOS script (lots of examples on google) to rename all files on your folder with the user ID of employees. Then you'll get a folder with the employees pictures with ID user as name file.
If  your pictures are set like Required Picture Settings on your system(size,dimensions,...) , now you will upload files without problems directly.

  • Win7 PC won't run upgraded photoshop CC (2014) as standard user

Since upgrade from photoshop CC the PC won't run using the standard user account (which is on the office network) but only run as local Admin (which doesn't have access to the office network).
when opening photoshop CC 2014 the PC prompts for local admin rights, then can't see the files on the network drives.

Thanks Jeff.  The user is a standard user. He's been using Photoshop CC on this same PC for a long time.  Photoshop CC (2014) is not crashing.
In order to upgrade, I had to switch to the local admin account, upgrade was successful.
When my standard user logs back in using his personal, standard user account, he is prompted for Admin credentials when he opens Photoshop CC (2014).  He enters the admin password, but he then can't access the files on the network, as the local administrator doesn't have access to the network.  This happens every time.
He has no problem running inDesign, or the old version of Photoshop, or any of the other suite of products.

  • Flash Player does not work with Standard User, but will work when browser is "Run as Administrator"

I don't understand why this is happening, but Flash Player will not work when a Standard User is using the browser. It will only work when the browser is run as an administrator. Any way to fix this? I've tried to uninstall, and reinstall the player, and it still wouldn't work.
The user is on Windows 7, 64-bit. Using IE 10.
Flash not working for Standard User - YouTube

Any update to provide at all here guys?  Again, in my situation, it's very much rights-related as a standard user doesn't even report that the flash player exists when testing it on the Adobe Flash Version Detection website (despite it showing up in Control Panel and under Add/Remove Programs).  I've already tried giving the C:\Windows\System32\Macromed and files/subfolders appropriate permissions for the standard user and still nothing.  If I either give the user in question full local admin rights or logon as the domain admin, then the Adobe Flash Version Detection website says Flash is installed and Flash works fine.
    Thoughts???

  • Can I have access to Standard Users accounts if I am an Administrator?

I run a department with 4 Mac minis.  Before today they all had a generic user and a common password.  Using ARD I could access all of them at any time.
Its been determined that we need to set up individual users on these machines.  If the individual user changes his password, I no longer have access to the machine.
All of the users are set up as Standard Users
I have an Administrator user on every machine.
Is there a way I can open my Admin user while they are logged in? Even in Curtain mode?
Is there a way, I can see and control their desktop without their password.
I need to install, update and make changes to software on these machines, but I want them to have passwords so they can keep their private company email on there.
    Any suggestions?
    Im running OS 10.9
The other macs are running 10.6.8
    all ARD versions are 3.5.4

Nevermind!  I fixed my own problem.
Delete the computers in ARD "All Computers"  (take note of the IP addresses first)
Go to the scanner and search for the IP address.
log in with the Administrator UN & PW.
    You now have access.

  • How do I get firefox to up date from a standard user account....or at least tell me to log on as administrator and update?

I do almost all my work from a standard user account. Firefox neither automatically updates (as I set it to) or informs me an update is available.
How do I get Firefox to update automatically when I am logged on as a standard user....or at least tell me to switch to admin account and update?

Let me add a note to the developers: WE ARE ALL NOT ADMINISTRATORS!
Even on our own personal computers.
I claim that administrator accounts are for administering, or developing; not using. I wouldn't be an administrator for longer than is necessary than walk down the centre of a highway with my eyes closed.
I'll repeat: Mozilla really should prevent the 'Update' button showing to an ordinary user if it's not going to be possible to use it.

If I run FF in a standard user account (non-admin) pdf files will not open. If I start FF in the standard user account but right-click FF and "run as administrator" the same pdf file will now open fine.

  • Standard users forced default "run as administrator" for acrobat.exe X pro

The software has been reinstalled and patched CS6 all componets of CS6 run fine under a standard user account with the exception of Acrobat Pro.  Acrobat Pro runs fine when an administrator is logged in BUT when a standard user logs into the computer all application shortcuts and even direct execution of the exe insists on "running as administrator", seeing as though they are not an administrator they can not run Acrobat Pro X.  Any assistance would be grealtly appreciate.

I'm not saying Norton is your problem, but I haven't heard good things about Norton software in a long time, unfortunately.
I always recommend Avast! antivirus to people.  The free version is very good in itself, and they offer a more comprehensive Internet Security version as well.
I don't know how technically-oriented you are, but if you do understand how things work fairly well and have taken measures and adopted good practices to avoid running malware, there is the possibility of just shutting off UAC (MIcrosoft User Account Control) if its operation continually gets in the way of your completing your work.  Typically, most people just get in the habit of confirming whatever prompts come up anyway, which defeats most of the protection UAC can afford.

  • Windows 7 OS with an Administrator and Standard User Functions

While using this system I have noticed that when some other similar machine with this system seems to want an uneven non match. All mine are updated. I personalized the power scheme and desktop and not sure that the other wants it to be
its subordinate. Does the administrator administrate over other administrators. He or she would set the restore point instead of the standard user. While the both somehow believe their personal documents are at least somewhat private. Sure there is not
    equal power on both sides.
Could the other administrator please leave our administrator to do his own non dirty work?

    Hi,
In RD Session Host Configuration (tsconfig.msc), please double-click RDP-Tcp.  On the Security tab, click Advanced, select Remote Desktop Users group, click Edit, then select Message and save your changes.  After making this change any users that
are currently logged on will need to log off completely and back on for the change to take effect.

how do I convert a standard user to an administrator if i have no other admins on the computer, re-bootimg NOT an option,  please help!!!!!!

Please take these steps to restore administrator privileges to your account. This somewhat tedious procedure is only necessary if you've confirmed that no adminstrator account exists on the system.
If you don't already have a current backup of all your data, you must back up before taking any of the steps below. Ask if you need guidance. You won't need the backup unless something goes wrong—which is always a possibility.
    Step 1
Start up in Recovery mode. The OS X Utilities screen will appear.
    Step 2
Take this step only if you use FileVault 2. Launch Disk Utility, then select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the  Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
    Step 3
    Select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Select your startup volume if not already selected. Pull down the menu labeled
    Select the user account
    and select
    System Administrator (root)
Follow the prompts to set a password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9. I suggest you write down the password. If you don't write it down and forget it, you'll have to start over from Step 1.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    Step 4
This step, like Step 2, applies only if you use FileVault. Log in as usual, then select
     ▹ Log Out...
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-Q. Don't restart. You'll be returned to the login screen.
    Step 5
At the login screen, click Other... Enter "root" (without the quotes) in the Name field, and enter the password you set in Step 3 in the Password field. You should now be logged in as root. This is a potentially dangerous condition. Do nothing while logged in as root except as indicated below. You'll be fine as long as you don't deviate from the plan.
Open the Users & Groups preference pane. Select your usual administrator account in the list of users and check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
You'll be prompted to restart. Do that and log in as yourself—not as root. Your administrator status should now be restored.
    Step 6 (optional, but recommended)
Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Disable the root user." You must authenticate in Directory Utility as "root" with the password you set in Step 3. Authenticating as another administrator won't work.

  • Administrator to standard user.OOPS

Accidentally changed  my user settings to standard,.i cant find a way to get it back to administrator. my computer wont allow me to make any changes. to get it back to the administrator, i no longer have permission.  it wont even allow me
to go back to an earlier time,  I have windows 7 ultimate with the alienware , Help

    Hi,
Yes, like GTS-NJ said, You must provide the administrator to change it back and make changes for computer.
The only choice for you is to check if the built-in administrator is enabled if that account you have changed to standard user is the unique administrator account.
If the built-in administrator is unfortunately disabled, no method unless reinstall your Windows.

    GroupMembership: root admin1 admin2 ...
where admin1, admin2, ... are the names of the admin users. Are any users listed besides root?
