Upgrading a Unibody Aluminium Macbook from 10.6.8 to ?
Hi
Id like to upgrade one of my older macs, but im not sure what I can upgrade to.
Im not sure what year it is - its the rareish unibody macbook (aluminium) which looks exactly the same as a Macbook pro 13.
Specs are:-
10.6.8
2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2gb 1067 MHz DDR3
What would be the latest osx I can upgrade to?...and how would I go about it (ie do I need to first install another update)

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7. Regardless of what the maximum OS for your computer is, you should install more RAM in it before proceeding.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

Is upgrading my mid 2009 MacBook ram
I was wondering if upgrading my mid 2009 macbook from 2gb to 4gb would cause a noticeable speed boost. I use my mac for average stuff like surfin safari, itunes and general word processing, and i have noticed when i have multiple apps running it starts to slow down and in one case i have checked activity monitor to see that only 100mb of the 1.75gb of system memory was free. and as i am writing this i have itunes, xtorrent, safari, and system monitor running and it report that only 420mb of system memory is free
also if it is a good idea what brand ram is best my local microcenter has 2 different 4gb kits, also i dont want to go through an internet site due to fear of ram being damaged during shupping (past experince)

Message was edited by: Hyprhwk2448I would go with the Crucial memory kit. That's the only brand name I have ever purchased, and their RAM always works. If you have troubles with either module, you can send them back to Crucial for an exchange.

Since upgrading my mid-2010 MacBook Pro from the original Snow Leopard to Yosemite 10.10.2 there have been multiple instances of restart (crash) also slow operation & pop up message stating web content has failed. Any suggestions?

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015

Maybe some other app. In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems tab: remove all entries with the minus sign underneath. This will not uninstall anything, you have to start those apps by hand now. Restart.

Yes: Restart again while holding the shift key, this will start the mac in SafeMode: only the necessary items are loaded to run.

No: Restart, put the items in the LoginItems back, one by one, restart after each entry, and you will find the "culprit"

I have a Macbook from 2007 or earlier. I currently run OSx 10.6.8. I wanted to upgrade to Mavericks so that I can get the new aperature. However I was wondering if my Macbook model was to old to run mavericks. Is this the case? Do i need a newer model? The other option is to get an different aperature. Does anyone know what Aperature runs with 10.6.8? Aperature 1.5.1 does not run with my current operating system.

To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

I have an aluminium Macbook Pro 15" from around 2009 currently running 10.5.8. Apparently I need to be on 10.7.2 to get into iCloud. And I can only run 10.7.2 on a Core 2 Duo machine or above? System Profiler says my machine is Core Duo, but also says it has 2 cores - can I run 10.7.2 on this machine? Any feedback welcome.

10.7 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
The model 2,1 (Late 2006 & Mid 2007) can use 3gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in the model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications. -
After upgrade to Yosemite my MacBook Air does not switch automaticly from wifi to ethernet. How to sloven problem?
Have you tried changing the order in Network Preferences pane?
Open System Preferences/Networks/Click the gear symbol under the service list. Select set service order then drag. If your wifi is above the ethernet move the ethernet to the top. Click ok. Click apply (bottom left) and test.
