Upgrading Acrobat Pro 9.0 to 9.4.5

Hello,
I was to update our install job of Acrobat from 9.0 to 9.4.5 so I followed the instructions on how to create an AIP and also created a transform. The job worked fine on machines without Acrobat but if I wanted to install it on a computer that already had 9.0 it would come up with an error. In the transform I told it to uninstall previous existing versions but apparently that took no effect while the rest of the settings (suppress registration etc.) would work. I also tried clicking on the updated msi on a test computer with 9.0 installed on it and it would give me the message that Acrobat was already installed and I should uninstall it from the control panel.
On the other hand, I was able to use the msi that had not been updated to uninstall 9.0 so my current solution is two separate jobs, one that upgrades and one that installs on computers without Acrobat. I am wondering though, if there is a more efficient alternative and also why the updated msi refuses to uninstall an older version. By the way, I have already tried recreating the AIP from scratch to see if there were errors that might have caused this but it was the same result each time.
Thanks for the help!

If this is in reference to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1308514, the instructions are there. Please follow EVERY STEP, don't skip anything because it seems unnecessary, and if you don't understand, say so. But not here - reply to THAT MESSAGE.

Define "access the cloud". I can access my iCloud.com account on my 5 year old iMac at work running OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I can download and upload Word documents and Pages documents in the iWorks section of my iCloud.com account.
What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.

  • Unable to upgrade Acrobat Pro XI to the latest version - 11.0.05.

    Hi,
I've been using Acrobat Pro XI from last one month. Recently Adobe introduced a patch release of 11.0.05 for Acrobat XI. When I try to install this upgrade, am getting stuck at the following screen:
Am not able to find this file on my system, with the result I have to cancel the upgrade.
Please help me get the latest patch installed on my system.
    Thanks.

The latest is 11.0.06. Normally the updates have to be installed in order, but this one can be installed over the original install (the web site will tell you). When you cannot update from the Help menu, then go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows, download the appropriae updates, and install them. It is a good idea when doing the updates to be logged in as the admin. and have anti-virus disabled.

  • Upgrading Acrobat Pro 8 to 9 (from CS3)

    Hello,
I need to upgrade from Acrobat Pro 8 to 9, in the hope it resolves some issues I'm having with form design. I got Acrobat Pro 8 bundled with CS3 Design Premium, just wondering does anyone know if I can just purchase the upgrade to Acrobat Pro 9 or do I need to purchase an upgrade to CS4?
I'm not sure if my version qualifies for an upgrade to Acrobat Pro 9 seeing as I didn't purchase it as a stand alone product, or if getting individual upgrades for part of a suite is generally a bad idea.
    Cheers
    Deb

    Just a suggestion.
You may want to *not* gobber with the installed suite by trying subtract suite item "Acrobat 8" and installing stand alone "Acrobat 9".
All to easy to skew the licensing sub-system which can leave you with bigger problems.
Nor do you want to install Acrobat 9.x while you have Acrobat 8.x installed - basically, they do not play well together.
    Be well...

  • Error when trying to upgrade Acrobat Pro 10.1.1 to 10.1.2 with an AIP

I am trying to use an AIP to update Acrobat Pro from 10.1.1 to 10.1.2.
I run msiexec /a AcroPro.msi with the base 10.0 msi on the CD.
I then cd to the AIP
    I then run msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd1012.msp
I then use the Customization Wizard to generate a .mst. with serial number, remove shortcuts, etc.
I then configure a GPO with the .msi at the AIP and apply the .mst in the GPO using computer configuration.
When test machine reboots GPO attempts to install, but fails with error %%1274 in Windows System event log.

    You need to look at this Adobe KB document;
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-10.html
Here is the crux of the issue though.
Acceptable AIP patch patterns for Windows deployments
Acrobat (Formula = Base release + latest quarterly + latest out of cycle patch)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.1.2 (Q)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.1.1 (Q)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.0.1 (Q) > 10.0.3 (OOC)
    Unacceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.1.0 (Q) > 10.1.1 (Q)
Reader (Formula = last MSI + latest quarterly + latest out of cycle patch)
    Acceptable: 10.1.0 (Q MSI) > 10.1.2 (Q)
    Acceptable: 10.1.0 (Q MSI) > 10.1.1 (Q)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.0.1 (Q) > 10.0.3 (OOC)
    Unacceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.0.1 (Q) > 10.0.3 (OOC) > 10.1.0 (Q MSI)
One more thing.  Don't expect that the new AIP will uninstall the old AIP.  It's best to remove the old AIP with msiexec.exe /x {GUID}  first and then install the new AIP.  You can manage the reboot as you wish with either SCCM or MSI command line switches or properties.

  • Downloading purchased upgrade Acrobat pro

I need help!  I have never had such a hard time downloading!  I found the order number for my Acrobat X but there is no place to put it!!! I have followed the directions, but the "download column" leads to a page where I can get a free trial or buy the product.  I have tried everything I can think of.  I have been at this for well over a half hour.  This should not have to be this hard.  I am not even far enough to get error messges.  I don't claim to very tech savy, but this is very lame.

What exactly have you done so far? Downloadable purchases are listed on your account under My Products, but it may take a while for them to show up until your order has been processed. You will also find your serial number there which you can also use to convert a trial version into the full version. If you have otehr technical issues you need to be more specific and provide info about your system, browser used etc., but you may wanan check this, regardless: Can't download Adobe Store purchase

  • Error (150:30) for Acrobat Pro 9.3 and PS 3 & 4 CS

I just had a very nice call with a support person at the 800 number, but I thought that I would still post my problem in the hopes that it might still help move towards a solution.
I lost use of Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 back in early June when I updated my MAC OS to Lion (OS X 10.7.4). After I upgraded to Lion, Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 stopped working and started giving me a notice saying, "Suite Product Activation Needed".
I unistalled the program and then reinstalled Acrobat Pro 9.3.0 from the orginal Adobe CS 5 Design Standard disk. At that point I found that the reinstall still did not work and had created an additional set of problems. I stopped working on this because I was leaving my main office for the summer and figured that I would survive short term with Adobe Reader. I also figured a patch would present itself given enough time.
Now that I am back, I've found the time to revisit this. I am wondering if I somehow missed an opportunity to fix this because Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion and I upgraded the Mac OS before finding a fix for Acrobat.
I spent most of yesterday working on this and this is what I found:
    1) I cannot not upgrade Acrobat Pro at all. It is stuck on version 9.3.0. This is important because I saw 9.5.2 was released and, if it has a patch, I cannot use it because I can't get back to 9.5.1.
    2) I have been all over the boards looking for a solution. I did find the Support Document #51260 (which phone support directed me to as well). This document, "Error 'Licensing has stopped working'|MAC OS", outlines fixes up through Lion, but has not been updated to Mountion Lion.
    3) From document #51260, I went ahead and downloaded LicenseRecoveryLauncher to have it. The problem, however, is this is a PowerPC app and Mounton Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps.
    4) Because of document #51260, I tried opening my older Photoshop programs from CS 4 and CS 3. I get the same (150:30) notice with Photoshop CS4 ver 11.0.2 and just a notice saying that Licensing has topped working with Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1.
    5) Since I'm writing this, I find that I am getting the same Licensing notice for Illustartor CS 3 & 4 and In Design CS 3 & $.
    6) The one program that I can use is Photoshop CS 5 Version 12.0.4
As I said earlier, I am wondering if I didn't miss a window of some sort to fix this by not seeing the fix for Lion as described in Document #51260. I am also wondering if the problems are related to the fact the Mac no longer supports PowerPC apps.
Regardless, the problem of not being able to run Acrobat Pro 9 still exists for me and the current fix document does not solve the issue for Mountain Lion. Is there an updated fix that does?
    I am running:
    Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X 10.8.1 (12B19))
PS - I tried downloading Acrobat 9.5.1 and when I click on the installer I get a warning message saying "AcroProUpd951_all" is an application froman unkown source and am I sure that I want to open it. I did open it, but it does not run a program. It takes me to Mac HD/users/My User Name/Documents/Acrobat User Data and then there is nothing to select. I can't even slect the Acrobat Pro Icon in the apps folder. My web browser is Firefow 15.0

  • Acrobat Pro X Forgets Print Dialogue Settings

We have recently upgraded our office computers from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to Adobe Acrobat Pro X with CS5.5.
Previously with version 9, whenever we would set page setup and print settings, it would print, and then, if we were to go back into the print dialogue to reprint a document, it would remember the selected printer, page size, print settings (such as tray number, duplex etc.).
However, since upgrading, Acrobat Pro X seems to forget the settings. For example, when we click on print, it will print as expected, however if I go to reprint the document I have to select all settings, including paper size again.
This is an annoyance, as we are a print business and this feature helps speed up our workflow, especially when printing multiple documents at once.
After a discussion with a Live Adobe representative, they were unable to offer any advice.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is annoyed by it? If so, do you have any solutions to fix this issue?
    Many thanks.

    Thank you for your post.
The new version certainly did not make it easy.  I just started turning everything I could find off and it eventually stopped - I am not sure which combination of switches it was.
The tool bar arrangement is still perplexing.  I can't imagine that Adobe in it's infinite wisdom, would disable something as basic as tool bar customization, however I am still unable to move around the toolbars.  In the previous Pro version, you could move evrything around to suit your needs.
I can add or subtract specific items, however they always show up in the exact same order no matter how I turn them off or on.  The default tool bar order is definitely not efficient. (Whoever picked the tool bar evidently does not use Acrobat).
If anyone knows more about this, I would be glad to hear from them.

  • After Win 8.1 upgrade, Acrobat 9 Pro suddenly won't run

I have Web Premium CS4, and Acrobat Pro v. 9.5.5.  I bought a new  Window 8.0 computer 90 days ago, installed the suite, activated, and everything ran fine. Yesterday, I upgraded to Win 8.1. Now, when I open Acrobat Pro, I get a pop-up message saying that it was installed as part of a suite, and to open another program in the suite first. When I click OK, Acrobat closes. I have tried opening nearly every other program in the suite (Bridge, Flash, Photoshop 64-bit), they run OK, but Acrobat will still not run, and there are no activation messages.  I checked my Adobe account, and my version of Acrobat Pro 9 is still listed, with serial number.
I'm very disappointed, as I use Acrobat Pro quite a bit, and currently it will not stay open at all. Other than telephoning Adobe for help (no free support # listed), or using on-line chat (no link available), or e-mailing them (no address listed)...what can I do to "activate" it?
I've tried opening Acrobat Distiller and get the same message, but when I close it, I see a brief flash of what appears to be an input box with activation stuff.  It only appears for half-a-second, so I cannot do anything with it.

Bill, thanks for that info. I don't think I would ever expect to get any support from Adobe on these programs, since I stopped buying revisions after CS4. I was surprised that I was even able to successfully install the CS4 Web suite onto Win 8.0, and Win 8.1 probably adds another couple hundred million lines of redundant code from our friends in Bill Gates-Land.
However, my A-Pro9 problem did resolve unexpectedly!  I tried opening all the suite's programs, one at a time, and then Acrobat, with no luck. Then I realized that the suite had installed both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Photoshop (I use the 64-bit version) onto my new 64-bit computer.  So, when I opened the *32-bit Photoshop* for a minute, closed it, and re-opened Acrobat 9, it went back to working normally.  I'll take it!

  • How can I use Acrobat Pro XI upgrade when I have a previous version on a different computer?

I just bought an upgreade of Acrobat Pro XI and installed it on my laptop. I own Pro X on my  desktop but when I try to open XI it asks for a serial number of a for a previous version on the laptop. The previous version is on a desktop. What can I do?
    Thanks.
    Garrett65

You just need to enter the Serial number of the Acrobat X to authenticate the upgrade.
There is no need to actually have the previous version installed on the computer.

I have a subscription to Adobe CC but none of these work on this so I was on with Adobe for 5 hours trying to install and launch Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Muse, and Acrobat Pro from CS6. Well, InDesign is the only one that works and I have a ton of work due! I don't have a serial number for Photoshop or Illustrator except for CS3, and they don't work. InDesign gave me no problems. Illustrator says it can't work on this machine. Photoshop needs a serial number. I'm stumped and getting anxious and freaked out. Can anyone help? Adobe Chat is down right now.

  • .PS file generating a blank PDF after upgrade from Acrobat Pro 7 to 9

    Hi All,
I've searched for this in vain so I'm comming to you now in desperation. My boss has tasked me with tracking down this error and I have to be honest, I'm a little bit green with Acrobat Pro. So coming into the situation I know this. My department used to use a .ps file to build a publication into a PDF from other .ps files. We operate on a network share (the P: drive) on Windows XP SP3 machines with the latest updates.
In Acrobat Pro 7 we could double click the  .ps file which executed the below code through Adobe Distiller and a  finished PFD of the same file name would be output to the host  directory. But now, after upgrading to Adobe Acrobat 9, this process  only produces a PDF with all of the appropriate bookmarks and none of the content.

    An observation -
It looks like you are dealing with files that reflect someone's work with the pdfmark Reference (associated with Distiller).
As with Acrobat Security, JavaScript and the Acrobat SDK the 'how-to' from these all undergo changes with each new Acrobat release.
I suspect that the coding, while adequate for back when Acrobat 7 was new on the street, may have to be updated to comply with what the Distiller provided with Acrobat 9 supports.
Use the link for pdfmark Reference

The Acrobat Developer Center ( http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat.html ) provides a hub to the myriad of "under-the-hood" aspects of Acrobat.

  • When upgrading from Abobe Acrobat Pro 9 to XI, is it possible to save Headers and Footers in documents?

I support a law firm that users headers and footers in their documents.  They are upgrading from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to XI.  when they did an install on one PC, the headers and footers in a PDF did not show and had to be recreated.  Is there a way around that?  I's appreciate any input.
    Thanks!

This is a work around. Bring the pdf into Illustrator. Go to Select >Object>Text.  In the attributes panel, deselect Overprint. In the Transparency panel, select Knockout Group. In the Appearance panel, check to make sure the black is not overprinting by clicking on the Character entry. If not, try clicking "Clear Appearance" (here I got a little lost.
Resave the pdf file. Your black text should now knock out. You may have to retrap, unless your RIP does that for you.
Hope this helps. (I had to keep trying to get it to work, but I finally did.

Download AA 9 Pro from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. Make a new backup for your archive. You might also take the DVD to your library to see if it is a drive problem. You might also carefully clean the DVD with water and soap (do not use anything that would scratch the surface or you have destroyed it for sure) and see if that solves the problem. This is particularly an issue if you have finger prints or other crud on the DVD. However, it could also be a bad drive as I mentioned. Hopefully the download solves your problem in any case (I would backup the download to CD and/or backup HD).
