Upgrading Acrobat Reader to Newest, or even Newer, Version

The version of Acrobat Reader I have is 5.0. I've tried downloading the new version, which is 9.0, several times. Every time it says it can't be saved to this computer and to check system requirements. My hard drive has 3.44 GB of space--I don't know what else they want. I thought maybe one version could not replace another version without upgrading in between, so I went to this page http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=macintosh&product=10 but as you can see the earliest version is 6.0.2 and it won't upgrade to that except from 6.0.1. I did fill out a support form but in case they don't answer, I don't understand their answer, or it doesn't work, I am posting here about what I should do. I've been afraid to just throw away the 5.0 and not sure it would work anyway. Is this what I need to do? Thanks for any advice.

Okay, I deleted Acrobat Reader 5.0 and it still wouldn't let me get Adobe Reader 9.0. That other page was no good as it was only updates for existing versions, not the versions themselves, so I went here http://mac.oldapps.com/adobe_reader.php and was able to get Acrobat Reader 7.0 and am now trying to download Adobe Reader 8.0.

  • Upgrading Acrobat Reader

    I feel its time to upgrade my Acrobat Reader. I'm getting messages that some of the content of my forms are unable to be viewed with the my present version and I think some documents are not opening at all. When I check in Control Panel's Add or Remove, I see several Adobe versions, Acrobat 5.0, Acrobat Reader 3.01, and Adobe Flash Player ActiveX. I have a dialup connection to the Internet, using Windows XP Home Edition SP2, version 2002, with Internet Explorer 6.0.
    I want to install a free version of Acrobat Reader, (not too large as I'm using a dialup connection), that will allow me to view my documents. I don't need any more than the most basic version that will allow me to do this and am asking for advice here.
    Should I uninstall all of the above versions of Adobe from "Add or Remove" first before installing a newer version or do I just install a newer version leaving them alone? Which version should I install? Please be complete in your response as I'm a relative newbie at this. Thank you.

    It looks like you have two different products. Adobe Acrobat 5 which you'll want to keep (it's used to create PDF's rather than just strictly view them) and Adobe Acrobat Reader 3 (which is what you want to upgrade.
    Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and choose the proper OS and it will give you the download options (Which I believe will be Reader 8). Keep in mind that the download could be in the range of 40MB so it's rather large for dial-up.
    After downloading and before actually installing, go to Add/Remove programs and remove Acrobat Reader 3 then install whichever newer version you've downloaded.

  • Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. OS 10.6.8

    Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. Same message again. OS is 10.6.8.

    Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
    I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
    I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
    Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason.

  • After Upgrading Acrobat Reader XI to Acrobat XI Pro the previewer in Outlook and Windows Explorer doesn't work.  I have to set the default program for .pdf's to Acrobat Reader inorder for the previewer to work.

    After Upgrading Acrobat Reader XI to Acrobat XI Pro the previewer in Outlook and Windows Explorer doesn't work.  I have to set the default program for .pdf's to Acrobat Reader in order for the previewer to work.
    Can anyone recommend a solution?

    If I set the default program for viewing PDF as Acrobat XI Pro the a PDF file will open with Acrobat XI Pro, but in Outlook I will get a white screen and the information bubble "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it" and in Windows Explorer I get a white screen in the preview pane.

  • Twonkey media server unable to read mp4 files created by new version of Leawo Blu Ray Ripper

    For the past week I have been ripping DVDs with a new version (v7.3.0.3) of Leawo Blu Ray Ripper.  The Twonkey media server (v7.2.9-1) on my WD4100DL will not read the newer files compared to movies ripped with the old version (v7.2.1.4).  My Roku media server does just fine.  Is there an upgrade of the Twonkey media server available?
    Thanks for any advice.

    I think that Leawo has helped me to solve the problem.  The MP4 files that I made using the old version of Blu-Ray Ripper apparently defaulted to H.264 video codec for MP4 files.  Twonky is able to read those files. The new version (7.3.0.3) of Leawo Blu-Ray Ripper defaulted to MPEG4 video codec.  Twonkey cannot read those MP4 files.  I have changed the video codec to H.264 in Blu-Ray Ripper and I am in the process of ripping a DVD now.  I will post the result.

  • This.print(pp) with interactive type silent or automatic does not work  after upgrade acrobat reader 9 to acrobat reader 11

    After an upgrade of acrobat reader 9 to acrobat reader 11 the automatic printing of a pdf. The pdf is opened, but the print does not happen. With acrobat reader 9 it works. But with acrobat reader 11 the printing does not happen.
    I discovered when you specify pp.constants.interactionLevel.full it works on acrobat reader 11. But when you specify pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent or pp.constants.interactionLevel.automatic it does not work on acrobat reader 11. But with the full option we have a dialog  print box

  • Removing Adobe Acrobat reader 5.0, and installing newer 7.0.9 version

    My IMAC with Panther 10.3.9 has Acrobat reader 5.0. This appears in Finder>Applications>Adobe Acrobat reader 5.0 folder. I find that the lastest version of the reader for my system is 7.0.9, per Adobe's website in the reader download section. I downloaded version 7.0.9, which appeared to have occurred without problems. When I went back to Applications>Adobe Acrobat reader 5.0 folder, the folder still indicated 5.0, not 7.0.9. Not convinced 7.0.9 was actually implemented, I moved the Adobe Acrobat 5.0 folder from Applications to Trash. And yes I emptied the trash. I then downloaded 7.0.9 from Adobe's website again. The download again appeared to have occurred correctly. There is no sign of Adobe Acrobat reader 7.0.9 in Applications, nor is the 5.0 folder there since I put it in trash. Why did I want to upgrade the reader version in the first place? Some PDF files that I tried to download wouldn't. This is the first time that I have encountered PDF files that would not download in readable format. The PDF help section of the website indicated I needed the lastest version of Acrobat reader to successfully download the PDF files. Since I did have an older version, the version upgrade was attempted. Where do I go from here?

    Hello AC,
    You were very close to being completely correct. The downloadreader.pkg opened by itself, but what I did not do after that was double click an icon that said Acrobat reader installer. Once I did double click that icon, additional installation activities occurred, and sure enough, Adobe Acrobat reader 7.0.9 now appears in Applications. Thanks.

  • How do I upgrade from GB 5.1 to a newer version with 10.8.2 ?

    I am currently running Mac OS 10.8.2, yet only have Garageband 5.1 (aka Garageband '09).
    I cannot find anywhere how to upgrade to a newer version of Garageband.
    I see the newest (?) seems to be Garageband 6.0.5, but when I tried to download it, it tells me "GarageBand 6.0 or later is required to install this update." and will not allow the update to continue.
    I cannot find a download for version 6.0 on the apple support page.  And even then, I don't know if it will tell me that I need to install an earlier version, before I attempt to update to version 6.0..... etc.
    I hope my question makes sense?
    I appreciate any and all responses, and appreciate your time.  Thank you in advance.
    Ultimately, I am trying to use my Behringer Xenyx X1204USB mixer as an interface for Garageband.... if that's even possible?
    Again, thank you for any help with this.  I really appreciate it.

  • Should I upgrade from 10.7.5 to a newer version? If so, which?

    I own a 2011 15" Macbook Pro 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 currently running 10.7.5 with 16 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM. ( I recently upgraded the RAM )
    I'm wondering if I should upgrade my OS X ?
    Should I keep 10.7? upgrade to 10.8? 10.9? or 10.10?
    My main question is how will each of these perform on my mac? Will browsing the internet, running pages, numbers, or iphoto be slower or faster? Those are the main things that I use on my macbook pro.  I do occasionally try to use more intensive programs but not that often.
    Thanks.

    You can no longer get Mavericks, unless you downloaded the installer and stashed it before Yosemite was released. So the choices are Mountain Lion and Yosemite. ML costs $20, Yosemite is free. However, Yosemite is not to everyone's liking. The user interface has taken a big step backward. Newer versions of Pages and Numbers are reported to lack some of the features and capabilities that older versions had. You might want to read some of the discussions in the Yosemite section before deciding. If you want to try it, install it clean on an external drive and work with it for a while to see if you can stomach the interface, and whether your apps work as you want them to. Don't just let it "upgrade" your existing system, unless you have first made a complete clone of your current system on another drive that you can restore if something goes wrong with the upgrade, or if you just hate it.
    Mountain Lion is still getting security updates, but there's no telling when Apple will decide to cut off Mountain Lion users from further updates.

  • Xfdf and pdf works in Adobe Reader 6, but not with new versions 7, 8, X

    I have a xfdf file which is created by querying a SQL data base and contains data for a pdf form; it works with Adobe Reader 6, but does not work with new versions of Adobe Readers (7, 8, 9 and X).
    It is an intranet site running IIS 6.0 in Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP2 with Adobe 6 installed and client systems include XPSP2, XPSP3, Vista, Windows 7 with different versions of IE, Firefox.
    With new versions of Adobe Reader, click on the hyperlink launched the pdf form in a browser window without data; below is the link:
            // create shipping slip hyperlink
            string strLtrSlipUrl = "~/Archive/LtrShipSlip.pdf#FDF=" + lblWO.Text + "LtrShipSlip" + ".xfdf";
            HyperLink hlLtrShipPdf = new HyperLink();
            hlLtrShipPdf.Text = "Ltr Shipping Slip";
            hlLtrShipPdf.NavigateUrl = strLtrSlipUrl;
            hlLtrShipPdf.Target = "_blank";
            pnlLtrShipSlip.Controls.Add(hlLtrShipPdf);
    I have installed new versions of Adobe Reader in the Web server (to match what the clients are using), but results are the same – blank pdf.
    I uninstalled the new versions and installed version 6 and the pdf and xfdf worked happily together, but we need new versions of Adobe Reader in the client computers.
    Thanks for helps and suggestions – I have read articles about using iTextSharp to create pdf documents from .NET apps, but that would be my last choice.

    Adobe Reader 9 can't save the old FDA forms. FDA must update their forms.

  • Acrobat Reader 7.0.8 and new MBP

    In setting up my new MBP, I opted to not have the migration assistant bringover applications, just my home and network settings. I want to get universal binary versions of apps when available.
    I went to install adobe reader (acroread) from the Adobe WEB site.
    It downloads the installer package, which starts up and goes through the usual phases, at which point it decides an upgrade is in order, not an install.
    The upgrade falls without anything informative or usefull.
    It seems there's some state laying around the disk somewhere, preventing a full install. Using spotlight, I removed everything that I could find related to acroread, adobe, etc. plist files and the like. Didn't help.
    Still digging, but I thought I'd toss it out.
    Thanks

    I've never tried it on OS X.

  • Acrobat 9 PDF portfolios with the new version of Reader

    We have a somewhat large PDF portfolio with a few hundred documents in it that was created with Acrobat 9 a few years ago.  It worked great with Reader 9 and was fast, etc.  Since the updates to Reader X and XI, the portfolio is sluggish and very slow to use.  If I install Reader 9 back onto my system, it works great...  The propblem is our IT department wont do this globally since they have identified security issues with Reader 9.  Are there any fixes for this problem???

           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
    To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
