Upgrading and Buying Software on E-Bay

Hello All,
I need to have answers to a few questions about buying and upgrading software:
1. If you have a suite (e.g. CS3 standard), can you buy just Photoshop Upgrade CS4, rather than buy the more-costly suite, especially since Adobe has changed pricing between student and educator.
2. On Adobe's site, it said that if you bought a student edition of software, the item could be registered without problem if you already had an educator (teacher) status - can someone corroborate this and tell me where the info is (Heaven knows if I could find this again!).
3. If you have CS2, and then buy the CS4 upgrade- will the upgrade work to replace the CS2 or would one have to buy CS3 and then CS4 upgrades, or simply buy a whole new CS4?
Thanks, and have a nice day...

The problem with any laptop sale on ebay is that you can never tell whether it is legitimate or not.
If there's a MBP for $1000, chances are there's a reason why - either it doesn't work, or it doesn't exist.
You don't want to make large investments on ebay, as you can easily get burned.
There are many organizations in the UK and Nigeria that are involved in a large ebay laptop scam ring, and what they do is they "sell" super cheap laptops, or offer very large amounts of money for used laptops. They use cheap stories like they need to close the deal immediately because of XXXXXX or YYYYYYY, but it's all just a scam to get your money because the faster you send, the easier it is to fraud.
I'd say just do the right thing and save up money to buy one... if you're going to spend $1000, save up $2000, you're halfway there, and maybe when you're ready you will get the latest edition with newer features, and the new OS X 10.5.
Please don't waste your time buying a laptop on ebay, it's too difficult to sort out the "good sellers" from the bad. I tried SELLING a laptop, and I almost quit because of the amount of scams I received when trying to sell it, I'd receive roughly 10 to 20 DAILY

  • OSX Upgrade and new software purchases slow down Mac and Battery won't hold charge?

    Any assistance appreciated:
I have recently upgraded my OSX from Snow Leopard, which I was quite happy with, and was ticking over very nicely.
    And, today, I have problems???
I was using Snow Leopard, I purchased Mainstage 2 for my musical work... Nice piece of Kit..
I then notice 'Apple', bring out Mainstage 3 about 10 days later???
I check out the spec, will not run on my OSX...
I then check out Mainstage 3 and find that it would be a better version than 2..
I then decide that the extra stuff in Mainstage 3 is worth the price of an OSX upgrade, and the newer Mainstage 3 version although I had recently purchased Ver 2..
I do the upgrade, seems to have worked fine...
I purchase Mainstage 3, get that installed, and the Xtra's.... What is that all about?
It took me well over 12 hrs to get those...
Any road up, I get everything installed and functioning....
    Now, my Mac is Slllooooow..
The Battery will not hold it's charge... Runs for only 2 hours MAX and then needs recharging???
The MacBook was bought only 18 month ago??? 2011 edition..
I have an IBM ThinkPad 240 and it still holds more charge than my Mac....
    Help appreciated Folks...
For the dosh I have paid to 'Apple', the product and software should operate and function better than this???
And to honest, I aint spending anymore, until 'Apple' give me some answers on my problems.
Peace, Love n Laughter Cap Reg

  • When to stop upgrading and buy new... thoughts

    Hi there,
I have a early 2007 macbook 2,1. I have upgraded the RAM and now am thinking of upgrading my HDD, at the relatively small cost of 50 GBP.
I have no existing problems, (apart from a lack of space, and mid-speed RAM (less than 3GB is actually used of my 4)) but I wonder if it is a wise investment to buy a new HDD for something so old.
Here is my question, how long do you reasonably think my macbook will last? I am a heavy user - but good at maintenance. Will other expensive components limit the overall performance eventually?
    cheers

At this point, I see no reason not to continue upgrading your computer. I have a late-2007 MacBook(which was purchased in March of 2008) that I have no intention of replacing until at least 2013(unless a major hardware issue shows up).
If your computer currently suits your needs, investing in a bigger hard drive is definitely worth while.

  • Why I can't buy software via itunes

Why it is not possible to buy mac software using itunes, I would love to upgrade to the latest version of ilife but because I have to go to a store and buy the complete package I have not buy it, if I would be able to upgrade or buy software via itunes I would already upgraded to ilife 09.
Why you can buy movies, iphone apps, music, etc, etc, but Apple has not created a software section to buy any software for the mac via itunes that would be great.

Apple has a different online store for computer software; to access it, click here and then on the link for your country. The iTunes Store is meant for content which can be used on iTunes, iPods, and iPhones, and not as a general software source.

Reload older versions from iTunes on a computer, or buy a newer device.

I have a macbook pro and the software with snow leopard only has upgraded to 10.5.8, do I need to purchase mountain lion to upgrade to 10.6.8?

Your machine likely can't handle Mountain Lion 10.8 nor 10.7, if it does it will run slow and very higly likely a lot of your third party software and drivers for printers and scanners won't function anymore.
It's because your 10.5 era (or earlier) machine is rather dated, hardware has advanced and is faster, the newer OS X versions have gotten bloated.
I do recommend you call Apple via phone and order the 10.6.3 white retail disks, backup your personal data off the 10.5.8 Mac to a external storage drive and when the disk arrives, stick it in and run the upgrade installer.
Once that's finished, reboot and use Software Update to get to 10.6.8 and stay there. You can buy stuff from AppStore, just don't upgrade to 10.8 (or 10.7) as thats when you'll have issues.
10.6 should run your currrently installed PPC software and hardware drivers. But 10.7/10.8 will not.
10.6 is receiving security and other updates from Apple as more than 50% of OSX users are still on it.

You don't need 10.5. Skip it and buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

  • Upgraded my iMac and Office software no longer supported but I have many documents to access.

I recently upgraded my iMac and all its contents were transferred over to the new Yosemite model from Snow Leopard. I find I can no longer open and use the software Office for Mac 2004 and all its associated documents.
    Message reads 'not supported'
Any suggestions, or do I need to buy new software

It's a shame then that Apple don't fully test their OS before unleashing it on the wider community, I wouldn't be in this situation if Maverics hadn't totally fu***d up my iMAC! Previous installs of new OS's have been faultless, my MAC is the best PC I have owned and I am never going back to Windows, however my purchases should remain 'MY PURCHASES' and should still be available for me to redownload because they are still in the 'MY PURCHASES' area of the App Store. If they are no longer available then users should be warned that unavailable items are about to be removed from the store before it happens. Backups of my music, files and external software purchases I have, the App Store purchases install directly and as such are not available as a download .dmg file....or are they, am I doing something wrong!!!

  • My macbook is 4 years old, i havent bought any upgrades but now i cant download the new itunes. Can i buy one upgrade and will it work or is there a way to get the new itunes?

My macbook is 4 years old, i havent bought any upgrades but now i cant download the new itunes. Can i buy one upgrade and will it work or is there a way to get the new itunes?

Even a four-year-old MacBook should have come with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Leopard can run the latest version of iTunes; it will download and install pretty much automatically if you run Software Update.
You might first have to be sure that you are running the latest version of Leopard, which is 10.5.8. This, too, will download and install for you if you run Software Update. Just keep running Software Update until there is nothing left to download and install (you might have to run it more than once because some updates require previous updates to be installed first).
If you have a version of Mac OS X earlier than 10.5, then you can't run the latest version of iTunes. You will need to buy a more recent version of Mac OS X. You must be running at least 10.4 Tiger, and you can upgrade directly to Snow Leopard from Tiger. Apple still sells Snow Leopard for about $30 and you might find it slightly less at a retailer or on eBay. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, you will be able to upgrade to Lion using the Mac App Store for another $30 or so if your MacBook meets the minimum system requirements.

Every time I switch on the iPhone, the iTunes icon is displayed together with a USB icon and Emergency call message appears on the screen in many languages. When I touch the i symbol I get the following information IMEI: **** AND ICCID: ****
However, the iphone is visible in the Devices directory in iTunes. I changed my SIM card but still can not be recognized by the iPhone.

  • I just upgraded my ipod software to ios 5, and it first was not recognized by my itunes, then it froze.all i get is a spinning wheel. help!

I just upgraded my ipod software to ios 5, after i upgraded, and restarted my computer, at first my itunes would not recognize my ipod, then i kept unplugging and replugging to try to get my ipod recognized, and my ipod has frozen. all i see now is a spinning wheel. what do i do?

don't ask me why this worked, but it did for me last night.  In iTunes, where your device shows up on the left side, I double clicked on it.  It then allows you to change the name like you can for changing file/folder names.  I changed 1 letter on the name of the ipod and hit enter.  I then right clicked on the new ipod name and chose restore from backup.  My choices for backup was the original name of the ipod only and not the name i had just changed it to.  I told it to go ahead and backup from the old name figuring I would get the same results, but not the case.  It restored it with all app, music and pictures with one exception...all of the settings, email setup and information within the apps was lost.  Atleast that an easier fix than starting all over.  Hope this will work for you guys too with the same issue.

  • My cd/dvd drive isn't working and i want to upgrade my mac os x10.5.8, how can i upgrade without the software CD

my cd/dvd drive isn't working and i want to upgrade my mac os x10.5.8, how can i upgrade without the software CD

I think not.   You will need to order a disc from Apple quoting your serial number, as many of these discs are machine specific.   So unless you can get your drive working I think you will have to take a trip to an Apple store.
Indeed, you have an old computer that may not be worth the cost of repair ... but it is still worth seeking Apple advice and a visual inspection.   It just might be something not too drastic.

  • Upgrading to latest itunes and ipod software kills ipod

Today my son has upgraded his itunes (on XP laptop) and ipod software to the latest versions. He has a 120 GB iPod classic and we've all been using ipods/itunes for many years. Since installing the updates he has been unable to synch his ipod. When we plug the ipod into the laptop it comes back with the error message "The ipod 'name' cannot be synched. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I have then tried to follow all of the trouble-shooting advice on the Apple website including the 5 Rs. The first 4 didn't fix the problem and when I got to no 5 (RESTORE) this wouldn't work either. The restore software downloaded from the site but after looking like it was going to proceed, iTunes returned another error message "<sons name> iPod cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application". I checked that it wasn't trying to synch at the same time as restoring and could see no obvious reason why the restore wouldn't work. I am now at a complete loss as to what to do next. Can anyone help? I am surprised that there is nowhere on the Apple support site where you can find a list of all error messages and what you should do in response. Well not one that I could find anyway! Hope someone out there can shed some light.

Try putting the iPod in disk mode before connecting it.
    1. Reset the iPod by pressing and holding the Menu and Select buttons simultaneously until it reboots.
    2. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for several seconds until the display changes. I believe it will say something like "Okay to disconnect." Then connect the iPod to your computer.

Here's a short tutorial video about how to move back and forth between your base computer and the on-the-go machine.  Very important info about which things can be copied within Finder and which things MUST be copied from within FCP X.  Best wishes.
