Upgrading and moving a catalog

I have Photoshop Elements 11 on my old computer with a catalog with many tags. I bought a new machine and loaded Photoshop Elements 12. I then backed up my Elements 11 catalog using Full backup. Then went to new machine and restored. All my pictures transferred and file structure was as expected. But only some, seemingly random, tags came through. Also many edited pics are now showing as two or more separate files and not as versions. None of my albums were restored. More than anything I need the tags! What happened? Can anyone help?

I did as you suggested and all looked good on old computer. Installed PSE12 on new and restored. Same result. All pictures, all captions but only a few tags. And to make matters worse some random date/time errors that mixes up my files....a real mess. The only good part is that I got the files. Not at all sure of next steps. Thinking of installing PSE11 on new and see what happens if I restore the PSE backup created with that version...very time consuming though

  • Questions on Analyzer Upgrade and Moving Analyzer Reports from Development to Production

Hi,We run Analyzer 5.0.3. We are planning to go to Analyzer 7.2. Did any body go thru this upgrade? If so, what is your opinion and tips that may help. Also, we never had Analyzer development environment. We are planning on having Analyzer development environment. In our installation, all of the Analyzer reports are centrally developed based on user requests. Once we have development and production at the same Analyzer version, if a report is developed in the development system, how can the report be mirateed/moved from development to production system?Thank you for your help,Prasant

    Balaji,
    Has this been done yet?

  • Moving LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?

I moved LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?
The meta data for each image is missing.
I have over 2,000 images. I don't want to go back through each image and add meta data.
Is there some way to move everything?

No, do not re-import your images. I assume you can see the thumbnails in the library module, just cannot access the full images, right? If this is the case there should be an exclamation mark in the top right corner of every one of your pictures and you only have to tell LR where the images are now.
Click the exclamation mark of one of the images and a dialog window should pop-up, telling you that LR cannot find the file, but with an option to locate it. Press "Locate" and navigate to the folder on your new HD where the file is. If in the new external HD you kept the same folder structure that you had on the internal disk, LR will be able to find all your images and re-link them to the database without further intervention.

  • Moving LR catalog ( ie . ircat files )  and the real photographs to a new drive , can you do this in LR ? or seperatly and which do I do first ?

I want to get everything off my hard drive and work in catalogs on an external drive but I need all my older photos moved too .

You move your catalog file using your operating system. Move it to wherever you want it to be, and then double-click on it. Please understand that your catalog file ought to reside on your fastest disk; if you move it to an external drive you may notice slower performance.
You move your photos via this procedure: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
It doesn't matter what order you do it in
You used the phrase "work in catalogs" (plural), may I recommend that you work with a single catalog, there are usually plenty of advantages to using a single catalog, and no real disadvantages

  • How to upgrade AND move between platforms with different Endians...?

    Hi, all,
I have two databases - one of 500Gb and one of 50Gb - that are currently running on 10.2.0.4 on AIX 64-bit. They are Production systems.
I have to move them to a brand new Linux (RHEL 5.6 - 64-bit) server that will be running 11.2.0.2.
For test, I'm OK with this being done with Data Pump. But for the eventual move to 'New Prod', this will result in hours' worth of downtime and it's a business-critical system, so I'm trying to mitigate that as much as I can.
I was, naively, hoping to use RMAN to both move the databases from one box to the other, but also to upgrade them. I figure I would do the following (as per Metalink 369644.1) as I have a Recovery Catalog, etc, etc:
Install the binaries on the New Prod server
Connect to the RCAT and restore the database and recovery to a PiT
Manually upgrade the database by putting the DB into STARTUP UPGRADE and running the catupgrd.sql
Unfortunately, I didn't realise the Endian was different between AIX and RHEL (as per 1079563.1). Oops.
It doesn't look like I'll be able to use Transportable Tablespaces (as per 243304.1) either without first having to migrate the data across as a 10g DB and then upgrading.
So my options appear to be:
    a) Data Pump and suck the outage up
    b) Move the data using Transportable Tablespaces to 10.2.0.4 and then upgrade to 11.2.0.2.
Are there any other options? I have hopes that a logical standby would work in this instance a la rolling upgrade, but suspect that the different O/S AND the different Endian would scupper that idea...
    Mark

Perhaps, I have more experience using concurrent exports/imports using the traditional exp/imp utility than using the parallel option on expdp/impdp. One thing you can do with exp/imp that you cannot do with expdp/impdp is export into a named pipe, start a remove copy of the named pipe to the new server, and then start importing from the named pipe on the new server so that you are importing while still exporting the same objects. We use tables= exports when we did this back when the tables= parameter could only handle 99 tables. We had a separate export for every large table and then a set of exports for 99 tables for each of the other tasks ran 6 to 12 concurrent processes.
One thing to look at is historic data. Potentially some tables can be moved in advance of the majority of the application objects and replaced with synonym to remote objects.
Truely static tables could also potentially be moved in advance even if only a day or two before to reduce the number of objects to be moved.
Build the new database in noarchive log mode to save some processing and switch it over and immediately back it up when you migrate.
And Yes, if the two platforms appear in the view name I gave you then you can use transportable tablespaces with the rman conversion step. Instructions for using rman to do the conversion are in the rman manual.

  • Pictures not appearing in after upgrade to SRM-MDM Catalog 3.0 SP7 Patch4

    Hello,
Due to some issues in Advanced search we performed the service pack upgrade from SRM-MDM Catalog 3.0 SP5 (with MDM 7.1.03.72) to SRM-MDM Catalog 3.0 SP7 Patch4 ( MDM 7.1.04.146).  With this new SP, the Pictures are not appearing anymore under the Hyperlink section anwhere in Catalog browser( Compare, Context view, Item details). With earlier SP pictures were appearing perfectly.
We have done like this:( refer earlier thread - Re: SRM MDM Catalog 3.0 Image display) thanks Sudhanshu, Jitesh and Mandeep for suggesting that solution!
    Using the hyperlink field
    type : rendered
MIME type : image type i.e. .jpg
    URL : web URL
We had gone for this option because we dont want to store impages in MDM, and this worked perfoectly until new SP upgrade.
    Any clues?
    Thanks
    Pravin

    Hi Bala,
Nothing appears under the Hyperlink section in Catalog browser, though a valid link exists in Data Manager under Hyperlink  as type-Rendered, MIME type as JPG and a valid URL.
I have searched Service Market place for this fix of this issue and found that SAP has improved the technology ( from Object Cache to Blob Cache) to display pictures/hyperlinks from SRM-MDM Catalog 3.0 SP06 and MDM 7.1SP04 onwards. We were  on SRM-MDM Catalog 3.0 SP05 and MDM 7.1 SP03 before Dev upgrade.
Here are the notes for reference of others who get into same issue.
Note 1450593 - Implementation of BlobCache
This note states "MDM7.1 SP04 offers new image caching functionality called Blob Cache. The old functionality of Object Cache is replaced with the Blocb Cache mechanism in Catalog 3.0 SP06 P1"
Note 1505796 - Images not showing in SRM-MDM catalog (error in BlobCache)
This note talks about the issue in MDM API with Blob Cache. The Fix has been provided in SRM-MDM Catalog SP08 Patch 01.
But upgrade is not something that happens on the drop of a hat, we dont want to do another upgrade,  I would like to know if there is a workaround.
    Thanks

  • IPhoto 9.6 Yosemite asks to do upgrade and then permissions repair

After the Yosemite upgrade, iPhoto was updated and was all running fine. Could access photos etc.  iPhoto previous version was the Mavericks one, so not v7 or before, requiring the Library upgrade tool.
Last night when trying to access iPhoto, it comes up with a message saying the library needs to be upgraded.  (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9svb2pc91821sm0/Screenshot%202014-10-24%2014.00.48.jpg ?dl=0)
Ignoring the fact that this doesn't make sense as I have been using this library with the updated 9.6 iPhoto, I then click the Upgrade button.  iPhoto starts 'Examining photo library' for a while and then comes back with a message saying the Library cannot be opened and that the permissions need to be repaired.  After asking it to repair permissions, it fails and says the file cannot be opened.  (https://www.dropbox.com/s/vc3w6c8rh24hpyk/Screenshot%202014-10-24%2014.07.40.jpg ?dl=0)
After trying the following, the symtpoms changed slightly.
    1) Restarted the Mac (as you do)
    2) Deleted iPhoto and re-installed it (advised in another thread)
    3) The file was on an external USB drive, which was Mac OS Extended Journaled (and has been working on there for 2 years), so just in case, I moved it to the main hard disk in the Pictures folder
    3) Ran Disk Utility repair permissions just in case, but no errors found in that file.  Rebooted and ran again to make sure.
    4) Showed Package Contents of iPhoto Library file and moved out the iPhotoLock.data file
After trying all this, it now skips the permission repair option and just goes straight from the upgrade screen to the failed to open screen.
I have now tried the iPhoto Library Manager tool and that opens the Library just fine (version 4.19), which suggests everything is there and working, but that iPhoto has just stopped working.  However, if I use iPhoto to open or create other iPhoto Libraries, it works fine, which indicates a problem with the Library itself.
I have also tried opening the file from my iMac (also Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6), but it comes up with the same messages and errors.
Now trying a complete rebuild using iPhoto Library Manager as iPhoto won't open the file to do a rebuild using CMD-Option.  This may take days for the 130Gb Library, so just wanted this post up in case anyone else is having similar issues and may have found a solution.
    Any and all ideas welcome!
    Thanks,
    Graeme

Do you still have the original library that you used iPLM to rebuild.  I as because I didn't see anywhere that you used iPhoto itself to repair the database.  If you still have it try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • PSE 9, external hard drives and moving to new computer

I had an old desktop running PSE 3, yep...3, and my husband bought me a new laptop. Laptop's operating system would not run PSE 3, so I purchased PSE 9, reconnected all my "misplaced" photo files, loaded PSE 9 on the old desktop and converted all files to 9. NOW, I am ready to move everything to the laptop and am unsure what would be best.
I have a large collection of photos and have always stored them on an external harddrive that I just plug in when needed. I purchased a second external hard drive that I am now using for backup ONLY, so I have 2 external HD's - (1) storage and (2) backup.
New laptop has PSE 9 installed and has a some newer photos in the organizer that are presently stored on the laptop harddrive. I have not done any tagging on the laptop because I didn't want to complicate matters. I now want to import my old catalog photos (stored on the external hard drive), including PSE tags. The part that causes me confusion is that I want to continue storing the photos on the external hard drive where they are. It seems counter productive to import, make new files on the laptop, then export back to where they were all along.
Gosh, I hope I'm making sense here. Anyone have any suggestions - simplest of terms, please, regarding how to get access to my photos and tags moved to the laptop if the fewest and easiest steps?

Ken, I am struggling with this. I have renamed the external harddrive with my photos, found the catalog and copied it to the external with the photos and have connected this external hard drive to the laptop (new computer).
I am now at step 5. of your first response. I have browsed and found the catalog, now my only two options are new or convert. I don't think I need to convert because I have already converted to from 3 to PSE 9 and don't really think it's a "new" catalog.
I need an "outline for dummies", please.  If I didn't have so darn many photos, I'd be tempted to just start over. If it helps, I have written tag info to my files.
Thank you for all your patience and help.

  • Moving LR catalog to external hard drive

I am new and in the process of learning LR.  Currently all my photos are stored and developed in my laptop, however it is getting too much for its hard drive.  I am thinkinng of moving the entire LR catalog to an external harddrive.  Would someone please give me some advice how to do this safely and also how to point the LR to its new location when I open it from the icon.
    Thanks much.

    Please note:
When we talk of the "catalog" in Lightroom, it means the database where Lr stores everything. It does not mean your photos.
The catalog (i.e. the database, i.e. the file with the ending <  .lrcat>) does not have to be on the same drive where the photos(the image files)  are.
So you can move your photos to an external hard drive and leave the catalog where it is now. Where is it? Go >Edit >Catalog Settings ? General tab. It tells you the name and location of the catalog.
Before you do any moving of your photos, please note: Lr stores - among the many other things - in its catalog also the location of each one of your image files. This has the consequence that if you move the image files in Win Explorer / Mac Finder Lr does not find the photos in the location stored in the catalog and sends you the much feared "?". How to solve this, see here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/WS3BC0B0A1-D48C-4271-891D-DA04EF388E29.html
So, there are two ways to move your photos to an external drive:
    a) do it within Lr and Lr will keep on top of the moved files;
    b) If you want to move the image files in Win Explorer / Mac Finder it is best you create one (1) parent folder that contains - in various sub-folders - all of your images. Do this in Lr.
Then - in Win Explorer / Mac Finder - you move the parent folder with all its sub-folders to the external drive. When you open Lr again it will show - in the folders panel - a question mark besides each folder. You then have to do the <Find missing folder> routine:
    Locate missing folders
If a folder is moved in the operating system instead of in Lightroom, the link between the catalog and the folder breaks, and a question-mark icon appears on the folder in the Folders panel.
To restore the link, right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) on the folder and choose Find Missing Folder from the context menu.
Navigate to the file path of the moved folder and click Choose.

  • I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade and now iphoto will not open correctly anymore. please help

I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade and now iphoto will not open correctly anymore. it stays on the opening screen and the message
shows up that I must update the mediathek. If I click on update the program shuts down. How can I fix this?

I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade
Does that mean, you are running iPhoto 9.6 on MacOS X 10.10.1 Yosemite? Or are you using an older MacOS X? "New" iPhoto is relative and depends on your system.
If I click on update the program shuts down. How can I fix this?
Does "shut down" mean it crashes?  Then post please the error log from the error panel here - copy and paste the report into your next answer (the first 50 lines should suffice)
Where is your iPhoto Library (Mediathek) stored? Have you moved it to an external drive, or is it still in your Pictures folder (the order "Bilder")?

  • I couldn't find the "Reload Page" icon and went to "Customize" found it and moved it to the top tool bar but when I clicked "Done" it dissapeared. It won't stay visible. How can I keep it there for my use?

I have V6 of Firefox and never had to worry about the "Reload Page" icon before so when I upgraded to V6 I was sorry to see that it was gone. Also the "Page Back" arrow isn't lit up and won't work. I have to go to the history and go back using that.. what happened to the back arrow? Now there are 2 clicks instead of one?
I went to the "customize Toolbar" and moved the "reload Page" icon back to the top and it disappeared when I was done. How can I keep the "Reload Page" visible and useful?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

  • Moving My Catalog PSE 13

Ok I hope someone can assist me. So I used the Move/Copy to another drive I moved all of my pictures using this command and now I have a mess. I use to have all of pictures neatly tucked away in individual folders. I needed to free up some space on my hard drive. Now all of my photos or at least most of them moved to the external hard drive but now I don't have any folders and there still are many pictures still remaining on Hard Drive. To make matters worse I thought I would do a back to the same external drive but I forgot to make a separate folder and now I have a mess. If anyone has a solution for this it would be greatly appreciated.

The command 'Copy/move' is similar the 'Export' command. It works on individual files, not on folder trees or branches. The result always gets into the folder you have chosen.
What you want to do is to 'move' a folder tree or a part of it to another location. It's not moving the catalog (the database where the details and location on the drive of the pictures are kept) it's moving the pictures themselves while keeping their structure in the Explorer/Finder. I'd call that moving a 'library' or part of a library.
Keep in mind that 'moving' is only an image, a metaphor in computer language. You really first Copy something somewhere, then you Delete the original files.
How to do this library move ? If you do it from the Explorer/Finder by drag and drop or the menu, that seems easy, but the catalog is not updated, so you'll have to 'reconnect' your files. If you do it by small batches, that can work well.
It's recommended to do it from the Organizer itself. In the left folders panel, depending on the Elements version, you show the folder tree just like in the explorer/finder. You drag and drop, and the Organizer updates the path for the files in the catalog database.
Organizer: Moving folder trees or branches - Elements Village
To make matters worse I thought I would do a back to the same external drive but I forgot to make a separate folder and now I have a mess. If anyone has a solution for this it would be greatly appreciated.
You should deal with that problem first. Your backup has stored a number of copies of your files in a wrong folder, and you want to delete them. Most of those files begin by B00... It's relatively easy to find them and to delete them. That should recover most of the space on your drive.
The problem you have left now is that you have lost your folder tree structure. If you had no backup, there is no way to restore it exactly. It's possible to use other data in the catalog to create a new folder structure based on dates (recorded from exif in the picture files), on albums or themes like events or places. You select pictures corresponding to a specific empty folder and you move them there.
My advice is to keep the new structure simple since that does not add any advantage to using the catalog and its virtual organization of categories and keywords.

  • How to upgrade a Lightroom 4 catalog to LR5?

I have two separate Lightroom catalogs associated with my Mac laptop computer, both of which are stored on separate external hard drives.  One external hard drive catalog is operating on LR5 but the other external hard drive catalog is still operating on LR4.  The Lightroom 5 download went smoothly on the first LR catalog but I am unable to figure out how to apply the downloaded LR 5 onto the other LR4 catalog.  Can anyone explain how to upgrade the second LR4 catalog to LR5?
Not sure if this is important to note but I purchased LR5 on my laptop.  In addition to my laptop LR5 is also now working on my desktop computer.  Both computers are Macs. Only two computers are associated with Lightroom.

Thank you, JimHess for your help.  That was deceptively easy.  I spent two hours trying to find someone at Adobe to help this newbie (me) with this but you answered my question very well.  Greatly appreciated.
One more query, if you will.  Now that both my Lightroom catalogs have been upgraded to LR5, will I screw anything up if I delete the LR4 catalog?  I apologize for asking what may be such a dumb question but I don't want to lose valuable photos and memories.  Thanks again!

  • Using Elements 12 on two computers and sharing one catalog.

I want to put my photoshop elements 12 onto my laptop as well as my PC. I would like to know how to be able to share my photos back and forth between the two programs. I also use the Topaz plug in's on the PC and will also install them on the laptop. Let me know how I can do this.

What I suggest is to have the picture files on the external hard drive as well as the catalog folder.
The picture files are no longer on your desktop nor on your laptop, they are on the external drive.
The catalog folder is no longer in the default location on your desktop, it has been moved to the same external drive.
You have PSE installed on your two computers (you are allowed two computers with your Elements license).
When you plug-in the the external drive to any of your computers, the organizer finds the catalog on the external drive and all your picture files.
You can edit and add images to your catalog from any of your computers, the other one will find them when the external drive is plugged in.
How to do this? I suppose you have your picture files on your desktop and also the catalog folder in its default location in the desktop.
You have two external drives; one for backup, the other to hold the pictures and the catalog folder.
The first step is to do a full backup on the backup drive.
Then you do a restore to the second external drive. That will put the pictures and the catalog folder in that drive.
Now, to tell each of your organizers in desktop and laptop where the catalog is, the simplest solution is to plug the external drive to a computer. From the explorer/finder, you locate the catalog folder which holds the database : catalog.pse13db. You double click that file, which will open the organizer in the new catalog. Do the same with the second computer.
As I said in my previous post, it is necessary that the external drive has the same drive letter when plugged in in either computer.
