Upgrading Apache server independently

Just wonder if there is any way to upgrade Apache httpd that comes with 9iAS (or 8i 8.1.7) to a newer release from httpd.apache.org without breaking the whole thing? I tried to do that on W2K:
1) downloaded latest binary for Win32 (1.3.19 at that time)
2) installed it locally at my dev PC
3) copied Apache.exe, ApacheCore.dll and modules over existing files (and fixed up LoadModule in httpd.conf to match new module names)
4) tried to start the server and it crashed complaining about modplsql.dll being invalid Apache module. In fact, none of the modules that came with 8.1.7/iAS 1.0.2.0.0 was recognized as valid. And Oracle-supplied 1.3.12 was complaining about new modules that came with 1.3.19 binary dist for 'accessing Apache API in the wrong way' or something similar to this.
5) So much for the upgrade :( I had to revert back to 1.3.12 which is known to have bugs and security issues.
So, the question is:
is it possible to use latest binary distribution of Apache httpd to upgrade Oracle HTTP Server powered by Apache by copying binaries over existing ones? If yes - what config or whatever changes should be made for new Apache to recognize modplsql.dll as valid module?
If this is not possible - how Oracle goes about fixing bugs and security issues in their custom version of Apache that are fixed in new releases from Apache.org? I didn't see any patches/upgrades for httpd on MetaLink (did I search for them in a wrong place?)
thanks in advance,
Bob.

I would be quite interested in the answer to this as well. Apache 1.3.12 (used with iAS 1.0.2) has numerous security issues, which have been patched with newer versions of Apache.
Does Oracle plan on supporting these security patches?

  • After upgrading Apache to 2.2.23 there is a problem

    I (perhaps foolishly) upgraded Apache from 2.2.22 to 2.2.23 on OS X Mountain Lion Server. Following the upgrade, remote clients on the LAN cannot access the Web server's default.html.en web page. The DNS entries still look okay on OS X Mountain Lion Server.
    Any ideas as to what might have got broken/overwritten by Apache by doing the upgrade that I need to fix or could something be blocking things?
    Also, while probably not related, when, directly from the (updated) web server machine, I access 127.0.0.1 from within the web browser I can see the start up web page for Apache on OS X Server (so Apache is running, just can't be accessed remotely). However, when I try to access the same web page, again directly from the local web server machine, but this time using localhost instead of the IP address in the URL then the web page doesn't appear.
    The hosts file on the web server has the following entries:
    127.0.0.1     localhost
    255.255.255.255     broadcasthost
    ::1             localhost
    fe80::1%lo0     localhost

    Yes, I should have backed up httpd.conf but unfortunately I didn't (it was a very long day). On the upside I am learning way more about httpd.conf than I ever thought I would.
    After some soul searching I have since discovered that the ./configure string should also have had --disable-version in it. This is because it is a built-in module.
    So a recompile of Apache and Apache is running and remote client machines can see 'html' based web pages. However, there remains a problem in that accessing php pages results in the php code being viewed instead of the web page. So something is still broken somewhere just not sure what. Any ideas? Please advise.
    Below is a snippet of my httpd.conf RE the PHP side of things:
    Snippet----------------------------
    LoadModule php5_module        libexec/apache2/libphp5.so
    #I have checked the libexec/apache2/libphp5.so exists. Still scratching head!
    PHPIniDir “/etc/php.ini”
    <IfModule php5_module>
        AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
        AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
        <IfModule dir_module>
            DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
        </IfModule>
    </IfModule>
    Include /private/etc/apache2/other/*.conf
    End snippet----------------------------
    By the way, doing a 'php -v' gives me the following result in Terminal which I presume means that PHP is okay but for some reason Apache or the Server is missing something but I don't know what that might be

  • Accessing many databases with HTML DB from a single Apache Server

    Hello;
    I am planning the install of 10g and HTML DB on a HPUX server with many databases running out of many Oracle Homes 9.2.0, 9.0.1 and 8.1.7. I will be upgrading a number of the existing databases to 10g and want to access them with HTML DB.
    My question is how can I install HTML DB on many databases and use a single Apache Server to access them?

    Where would I find the DADs? a default installation of htmldb puts the modplsql DAD, "pls/htmldb", in a marvel.conf file located in $OHS_HOME/Apache/modplsql/conf/marvel.conf
    What would the URLs look like? not sure what you're asking. if you're asking about how the change in DAD's would affect the URLs you're calling, though, you should consider looking over the OHS (oracle http server) doc some more before making these types of customizations.
    And how would I install the HTML DB in the different databases?
    Would I use the installer or scripts?the only supported way to install htmldb is via the 10g Companion CD. just use that installer to point to your different db's.
    regards,
    raj

  • Deployment Failed in Upgraded Weblogic Server

    Hi,
    We have recently upgraded our weblogic server from *10.3.3* to *10.3.5* . And deployed ADF application which was running fine in *10.3.3*. And we too installed the necessary libraries in the upgraded weblogic server and deployed our application.
    This all went well and when we restarting the server ... server failed to restart with the following exception. Please help me with your suggestions what exactly would be the issue.

  • Upgrading Apache to 1.3.26

    Hi!
    I'm using Windows 2000 Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 and Apache 1.3 which came from the Oracle 8.1.7.3 installation.
    As you are aware, I need to upgrade due to security reasons.
    What I would like to know, is how to proceed. Is the new Apache 1.3.26 an upgrade or a new install? I know I will need to specify a path for the installation, so should I reuse the existing oracle path? Will I need to modify any of the CONF files after the upgrade? Should I backup any files before the installation? Anything else I need to know?
    One more thing: Should I patch Oracle to 8.1.7.4.1 before I upgrade to Apache 1.3.26?
    Thank you for your time!
    Ron

    I've done some exploring, and according to Oracle Metalinks, I cannot use apache.org's version of apache. Here is what Rod has
    said to somebody else:
    < quotation starts here >
    Hello,
    Sorry for the inconvenience, but you cannot upgrade the Oracle HTTP
    Server with an Apache server from the apache.org web site. Both products
    are very similiar but the OHS is packaged differently specifically for
    Oracle. Oracle Support will only certify the OHS that comes with the
    Oracle products such as 9iAS.
    Thank you,
    Rod
    Oracle Technical Support
    < quotation ends here >
    I am now wondering, is it possible not to install Oracle's version of apache http server, but install apache's instead?
    Then install Oracle. Then configure Oracle and Apache. Is this possible? Too hard?
    I would still like to use patches, if there are any.
    Thanks again!
    Ron

  • Upgrade coldfusion server from 9 to vesion 10

    I need instruction on upgrading coldfusion server from 9 to 10 on windows 2008 server. Thanks.

    Although no database was created, it should allow me to connect to sqlplus using
    SQL>connect / as sysdba in order to access system tables."connect" means connect to a database, and system tables are within a database. If you don't have any, then no system tables.
    And I have already configure the listener.The listener is independent from databases, it listens for any databases registered with it.
    It may be running, but if no active databases, it listens for nothing.

  • Apache server authorization errors

    I built a localhost web site for testing MySQL and PHP scripts. It worked well until I upgraded to 10.4.8 and did my last security update. Now I'm denied Apache Server access. Did the last upgrade or secuity update change my httpd.conf file?

    I'm looking at a phpMyAdmin insatllation on a Linux server (apache, the usual).
    And I can't find a line in my config.inc.php file that refers to "a folder".
    Can you be more specific (but no passwords!) about what exactly you changed?
    My config.inc.php file:(no folder location)

  • Apache server + mod_python - Error 403

    Hi.
    I'm totally new in Apache server. As topic says, I have problems with permissions to my server directory. Here's my httpd.conf file:
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/access_log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log", whereas "/logs/access_log"
    # will be interpreted as '/logs/access_log'.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
    # Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used. If you wish to share the
    # same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
    # least PidFile.
    ServerRoot "/etc/httpd/"
    # Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
    # for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
    # Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
    # mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
    # other reason.
    # Mutex default:/run/httpd
    # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
    # ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
    # directive.
    # Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
    # prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
    #Listen 12.34.56.78:80
    Listen 80

  • How can i create datasource on apache server for ADF application?

    Hi All,
    i my use case i have created simple adf application using ADF BC and want to deploy on Apache server 6.x.
    So my question is that  how can i create Data Source i have goggling and find  two different way to do this.
    1. write following line of code on apache server conf/Context.xml file.
    <Resource name="jdbc/TestDB" auth="Container"
                  type="javax.sql.DataSource"
                   driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
                  url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:dst"
                  username="jagrandb" password="jagrantest" maxActive="20" maxIdle="10"
                  maxWait="-1"/>
    but when i have used this way i got following exception.
    org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.PoolingDataSource$PoolGuardConnectionWrapper cannot be cast to oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection
    check link-
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2564233
    2. write following line of code apache conf/Server.xml file
    <GlobalNamingResources>
        <!-- Editable user database that can also be used by
             UserDatabaseRealm to authenticate users
        -->
        <Resource name="UserDatabase" auth="Container"
                  type="org.apache.catalina.UserDatabase"
                  description="User database that can be updated and saved"
                  factory="org.apache.catalina.users.MemoryUserDatabaseFactory"
                  pathname="conf/tomcat-users.xml" />
    <Resource name="jdbc/TestDB" auth="Container"
                  type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
                  description="User database that can be updated and saved"
                  driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
                  factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
                  url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@//172.31.43.207:1521:dst"
                  username="jagrandb" password="jagrantest" maxActive="20" maxIdle="10"
                  maxWait="-1"   />
      </GlobalNamingResources>
    and add this line in context.xml file inside <context> tag
    <ResourceLink global="jdbc/TestDB" name="jdbc/TestDB" type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"/>
    but when i have run application i have got following error

  • Upgrade from Server 10.4.3 - 10.4.4 hosed login

    I just upgraded a server from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4 (and then 10.4.5). After the upgrade, I can't get to the login panel. Besides not being to login at the server it seems to be running normally (web server, mail server, etc. functioning). I can login remotely via ssh, and also with the server admin tools.
    Have the following in the /var/log/system.log:
    Mar 22 07:34:30 server2 loginwindow[225]: Login Window Started Security Agent

    Tried copying all color profiles from another server to this server thinking maybe a profile got whacked somehow, no change. Tried deleting the loginwindow prefs file, no change. Any ideas on what else to do?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    A shotgun approach that might work is to install the 10.4.5 Combo update and hope that it catches whatever happened. Otherwise, you might want to look at the SoftwareUpdate log (I think it's in /var/log) and see if you can find what went wrong. I believe that diskutil can do the perm repair from the command line, also.

  • How to get last modified date and time of a file which is in apache server.

    Hi ,
    I need to get last modified date and time of a file in remote machine.
    This file is in remote machine which has apache server installed.
    I am trying to get this information by connecting to apache server from client by giving absolute URI of the file to file object.
    URI is got from apache server URL by using toURI method.
    when I use lastModified method , its throwing exception , because scheme of URI is not file.
    I can't give scheme as file because ftp server is not installed on that server
    Is there any other way to get this information .

    No, unless you can use an FTP client.

  • Caldavd failing to start after upgrade to Server 3.2.1

    This problem, caldavd not starting after upgrading to Server 3.2.1, is a variation on the theme of PostgresQL not starting.  It too boils down to a postgres database not having been updated properly.  Below are the steps needed to fix this problem:
    sudo su -
    # Change to the directory with the postgres database for the calendars and contacts
    cd /Library/Server/Calendar\ and\ Contacts/Data/Database.xpg
    # Disable caldavd for now
    launchctl unload -w /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.c alendarserver.calendarserver.plist
    # move the broken database out of the way and build a new empty one
    mv cluster.pg broken-cluster.pg
    mkdir cluster.pg && chmod 700 cluster.pg && chown _calendar:_calendar cluster.pg
    sudo -u _calendar /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/bin/initdb "/Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Data/Database.xpg/cluster.pg" -E utf8 --lc-ctype=C
    # Finish the upgrade job that never completed by explicitly invoking the previous version of postgres:
    sudo -u _calendar /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/bin/pg_upgrade -b /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/libexec/postgresql9.2 -B /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/bin -d /Library/Server/Calendar\ and\ Contacts/Data/Database.xpg/cluster.pg.original_for_upgrade/ -D /Library/Server/Calendar\ and\ Contacts/Data/Database.xpg/cluster.pg
    # Mark the newly upgraded database as no longer in need of an upgrade
    sudo -u _calendar touch cluster.pg/.NoRestoreNeeded
    # Start caldavd back up
    launchctl load -w /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.c alendarserver.calendarserver.plist
    And everything should be the way it should have been in the first place!

    Hi, I have the same issue and Linc Davis pointed me to this thread from Re: Server Calendar migration failed.
    Your solution already got me somewhere, so thanks for that
    I need to note that my machine is on Yosemite (10.10.1) and I'm running Server 4.
    The only issue I have is that I get an error message when running pg_upgrade, the log says:
      pg_upgrade run on Fri Jan 23 09:31:30 2015
    command: "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/libexec/postgresql9.2/pg_ctl" -w -l "pg_upgrade_server.log" -D "/Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Data/Database.xpg/b$

    The log talks about removing the backup_label file. When I do that the log says the following:
      pg_upgrade run on Fri Jan 23 09:41:34 2015
    command: "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/libexec/postgresql9.2/pg_ctl" -w -l "pg_upgrade_server.log" -D "/Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Data/Database.xpg/b$

  • How to get my apache server running on my ip address?

    I am new to apache server. I installed apache server as described in :
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LAMP
    Firstly where do I store the files that I want to open using my apache server and how do I like map my public ip to apache server?
    say my public ip is x.x.x.x
    how do I get it work such that next time in browser instead of typing http://localhost/ if I type my public ip it shows the contents on my server.
    Thanks

    Read completely before trying.....
    1. Register an account at www.dyndns.org, its free, up to two domains.
    2. Login to dyndns and create a domain of your choice.
    3. This dyndns keeps track of your router IP addresses which is typically dynamic.
    4. Now we need to update the ip addresses of the domain when ever it changes. It generally changes every time we restart the router. In order to do it automatically we will setup the dyndns account on the router.
    5. On the router, login as admin to change/setup the settings. The router can be reached with the ip 192.168.1.1, this ip addresses changes with the manufacturer, like for belkin its 192.168.2.1
    6. On the router check for something which says DDNS, here you can setup the dyndns.
    7. Give the login details for your dyndns and the domain name.
    8. So, now you have linked your router to your dyndns and you can reach the router from anywhere in the world by type the domain name. The ip is not reliable since its dynamic and so it changes.
    9. No to use an application on a computer connected to the router. You need to use port forwarding.
    10. By using port forwarding, we can make the router redirect the requests to a computer on the network.
    11. Now again, your computer is typically connected to router using DHCP or dynamic ip. So need a static ip address for the computer as well so that it will remain constant all the times and the router can redirect the requests to this ip.
    12. Make the computer acquire a static ip. Configure your system for static ip. You just need to specify some ip address out of the dhcp range. So a static ip address can be 192.168.1.101 (as first 100 are for dhcp).
    13. Now on the router look for Port-Forwarding or Virtual Servers etc...
    14. You will be able to see a list of text boxes for ip and port.
    15. Now specify ip address of the static ip address computer and any port number like 8080. Make the private port or the internal port as the port number of your application. Application name can be anything. Type can be UDP or Choose Both, use TCP only if your are connected with a LAN cable.
    16. Here is an example...
    If we are using a webserver on our computer which runs on port 8080, we use it by typing..
    http://localhost:8080
    If someone on the same router whats to use our webserver they can type in:
    http://<ip-address>:8080 which can be http://192.168.1.5:8080
    Here as you can see, the ip address is dynamic, so change it to 101 from 5. When you choose static, the OS will ask you to specify the ip address, then just specify the ip as 101.
    Now you can access the web server by using the ip:
    http://192.168.1.101:8080
    But this can be done only by the people connected to the same router. Now we need to make it accessible by anyone in the world. So we need to make people access your computer which is behind the router.
    So first we need to make people access the router. But since the router's public IP is dynamic. We need something to keep track of the ever changing ip address of the router. Such kind of service is the dyndns.org
    By specifying the login details and domain from dyndns inside the router, the router uploads the new IP everytime it changes to the dyndns servers. The dyndns keeps track of the ip address.
    lets say our domain is registerd as: project.dyndns.org
    we provide this domain and login details to our router, and the router updates the ip address in case of any changes.
    We will now be able to reach the router by typing:
    http://project.dyndns.org
    we dont have to worry about the ip address any more.
    But still we need to get to the computer to access the web server.
    So we have to link the router to the computer. As we know our computer is at IP 192.168.1.101
    Now we will setup the port forwarding so that any request to a port A on the router will be redirected to a port B of the IP 192.168.1.101, which is the computer itself.
    Here port B is 8080 on the computer with the IP 192.168.1.101
    So we need to link a port say 8090 on the router to the 8080 on the computer.
    So, configure your router for port forwarding so that the 8090 on the router will point to 8080 on 192.168.1.101
    Now, anyone can access the router by typing:
    http://project.dyndns.org
    But to reach the computer we need to type the port as well, so type:
    http://project.dyndns.org:8090
    So any request to 8090 will be redirected to the 8080 on the computer which is handled by the webserver on the computer.
    EDIT:
    Once everything is setup, you can use the domain for SSH and other remote access tools. Just do the port forwarding for the required tools separately.
