Upgrading BB Pearl 8100

I was advised to upgrade my BB Pearl OS (I currently have v4.2.1.96). Can someone please tell me where I can find the upgrade (carrier: AT&T).  Thanks!

depending on what pearl model you have (8100 or 8110 or 8120) you can select appropriate model in drop menu and them choose the software you wanna downlaod, for 8110 and 8120 you will downlaod and install the multilanguage version on your PC and for 8100 you will download and install  v4.2.1.154 (Multilanguage) as its the most recent

I think that your device has lost its OS.
But I am confused : are you sure the "Device Manager" does not recognize the 8100 ? Are you not referring to the "Desktop Manager" ?
Anyway, if the battery pull did not fix the issue, I think you will have to rely on another software than the Desktop Manager to load an OS on your device again. You can check for the BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife). There are many discussions about it on the forum, you can use the search form on top of this page.

  • BB pearl 8100 upgrade

how can I perform an upgrade of the operating system to 4.7 or later? Updating certain applications is not supported by the current one Pearl has got.

hi marianne , you have to know first , the Pearl 8100 can take only the OS 4.5 maximun . The pearl cannot even take the 4.6 so you cannot put the 4.7 . i hope it will help you.

  • No browser icon on Pearl 8100

Hiya... I am in a world of pain...
Sorry - quite a bit of background on this...
In 2009 my husband bought me a brand new Blackberry Pearl 8100 from the internet (he can't remember exactly where from). I put my existing O2 sim in it, expecting to be able to access the internet/emails, but neither were available to me. A quick call to O2 cleared that one up - my sim was Pay & Go and at that time, O2 were not doing Blackberry web & email on Pay & Go. I used it as a phone for a bit, got peeved (wanted internet and emails!) and bought a Samsung Tocco lite which I have been using up until last week when I found out that, since last July, O2 were now doing Blackberry internet on Pay & Go.
So, I excitedly purchase a bolt on from O2, shove my sim in my lovely Blackberry Pearl, get excited when I see the new icons for Facebook and Google etc... and then I realise that there is no browser option. No globe icon, nothing. The only way I can see a browser icon is if I press the menu key and select 'Switch Application'. The 'phone then says 'requesting', then offers me an option to sign up for Yahoo Messenger. If I hit the 'back' button, the screen goes blank. If I accept 'download', I get: 'Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support Yahoo'.
I have set up my emails and they work fine. If I click on links in emails, I just get a blank screen.
I have spoken to O2 who have said that 'everything is fine their end' and there is no reason why I can't find a browser icon. They told me to check out the latest Blackberry download so my 'phone is updated. So, I have installed what I believe to be the latest version but that has had no effect whatsoever.
A battery pull (well, about a hundred of them actually..) has also had no effect).
I am close to throwing the flaming thing up the wall. Please help me save my beautiful little 'phone from such a cruel fate... any ideas?

    Solved!

    Hi there!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you could investigate further updating your BB OS...here is a process to do that:
From a PC, you can install any OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Desktop manager download and rearranging files for Pearl 8100

I have a Pearl 8100 and lost my desktop manager CD and need to load it on to my new laptop.  Where can I download this?  I have tried a search here at this website, but I can't seem to narrow down what I need specifically.
Also, I was wondering if it were possible to move files around, specifically, from within a folder to the desktop.  For example,  Brickbreaker and Messenger.

  • Pearl 8100 headphones problem

    Hi,
Have just tried to play music through the headphone socket of my Pearl 8100. Instead of muting the speakerphone and routing the audio through the headphone socket, it just continues to play through the speakerphone and nothing comes out of the headphones. The headphones are recognised as it comes up with the "voice dialling" screen when I plug them in.
I think the OS was upgraded to the latest one available for this, maybe 4.5?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Tom

I managed to fix it, I took the battery out and put it back in.

  • Trouble installing a new OS on BB Pearl 8100

    Hi there -
I have a BB Pearl 8100. It is unlocked, but loaded with T-Mobile OS (according to Options/About it's: v4.2.0.64, platform 2.2.0.37).
I am using with an ATT/Cingular SIM card for phone calls - for the most part this is successful but occassionally I will get a rash of "call failed" errors upon trying to make calls. Often turning the phone on and off will solve but not a permanent solution.
So I'm trying to load the appropriate AT&T OS on the device. I am following all instructions that I have seen posted on many different sites, including Blackberry.
    In short, I am:
    1) Downloading and Installing the right ATT OS for a Pearl 8100 from the BB website.
    2) Open BB Desktop Manager
    3) Connect BB Pearl to computer (via USB).
All of this seems to be working as designed.
However - the directions say that DTM should either prompt me to "Update Now" (assuming the Application Updates Available window appears) - or I should open Application Loader and launch the wizard process. I have to do the latter because it does not prompt me for auto Updating.
Once I do the latter, it does not detect that I have the newly installed OS waiting to be installed onto the BB Pearl. It detects a few applications that are already installed on the Pearl, but no new OS.
    I'm very confused!!
I have tried this process with Desktop Manager 4.6 and 4.2 with SP, thinking maybe it had something to do with version of Desktop Manager, but same results.
    What am I missing????
    Thanks
    Brad

    Hello,
You can use any OS package on your BB as long as it is one that is exactly for your model number BB. This process is the best I know for installing (upgrade, downgrade, reload) an OS onto a BB:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
If you choose an OS package from a carrier that is different from your BB's original carrier, then insert, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML.
    Good luck!

  • My Pearl 8100 is not recognized by my Windows 7 computer and Desktop SW 6.0

I cannot get my newly installed desktop software (v6.0) to detect my Pearl 8100 when I connect it through USB.  Upon the first software installation, it will recognize and sync once but after disconnecting and reconnecting, it will not detect.  I have to unload the software and re-load in order to get another detection.  Any ideas why it will not detect on subsequent connections?  The USB cable does not appear to be the issue.

  • Can't Import Outlook Express address book to Pearl 8100

A friend just gave me an AT&T BB Pearl 8100 and I am using it as a phone only with no data plan (it's a company cell phone but they won't pay for a data plan -- I just put my SIM card in the BB).  I am trying to connect to my personal PC with the USB cable and import my OE address book.  I am using Desktop Manager 4.7, and when I try to synch it a window flashes that says "Synchronization Progress - Processing" for about one second, then that disappears and my phone doesn't get updated. Can someone help me?  I searched for this problem prior to posting but can't find this situation.  I dread having to type them one by one -- any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

  • Pearl 8100 Battery Issues

My BB Pearl 8100 is always losing battery charge.  Anybody else having this issue and how can I fix it?  I charge my BB at least 3 times a day.  Once in the morning plugged into the outlet, once during the day at work through a USB port on my computer, sometimes I have to use the car charger to hold me over until I get home to plug it back into the outlet.  I'm extremely frustrated and would have never bought this phone had I known I was dealing with this problem.  And by the way, I only bought this BB (first one), sometime in July.  PLEASE HELP!  Thanks

I just got my BB 8120 yesterday and I was told (after the fact) that its good practice to let your new phone charge for 24 hours.  Of course I wasn't told this by my Wireless company... I was told this by a friend of mine that was told this by a rep at a store location....
I just got off the phone with my Wireless Tech Support, and they said that it doesn't hurt to let it charge, so that the battery learns to build it's charge as it goes along.  I was told that in essence, you should be able to get at least 4 days of use out of the phone.
So... we will see.  I will post back and let you guys know if it worked.  If not I will be returning the phone for replacement in a week

  • Pearl 8100-Should the BBpin at the back of the phone match the BB pin programmed in the phone

I have a BB pearl 8100. My phone was purchased refurbished. I was informed by an unlocker that my phone was refurbished by blackberry and it appears as if they had disabled the pin (at the back part of the phone ) and reprogrammed the phone with   a new pin. As such my phone is useless and can only be used for basic mobile services. i have been unsuccefull in applying a data plan on my phone.
Is this true? Is there anything that can be done?

    No, PINS are not recycled.
It's more likely that O2 never blacklisted it.
