Upgrading Boot Camp

Okay, so I posted here once before and didn't get an answer. I'm going to rephrase my question.
I'm running Boot Camp 1.2 Beta, and I want to upgrade to the Third Service Pack for Windows XP. But when I tried to upgrade my boot camp to version 2.1 (which runs SP3), the exe file didn't work. I was wondering if that was because I was supposed to upgrade my boot camp to something else first.
Please respond ASAP. I'm trying to install SP3, and have a microsoft tech support person waiting for my response on what the apple forums tell me.

So, I have to get DVDs? I'm more confused than I was, my brain is swirling. I thought all I had to do was download an update for boot camp while I am running the windows side, and then install it. But from what you guys said, it looks like I have to do other stuff too? I don't want to sound un-appreciative, and I'm glad you guys took the time to help me. I don't want Windows 7 because I'm only using the PC side of the computer for gaming and certain programs that don't work for Mac. But when I saw the third service pack, and found out that support for SP2 computers stopped just recently, I figured I needed to upgrade. But according to Microsoft (who I contacted), installing Boot Camp 2.1 is the only way you can get SP3 on a system using Boot Camp. That is what started all this.
So I know that I don't upgrade it on the Mac side, I upgrade it on the PC side. But I can't find the appropriate link for upgrading it. I have the 3.1 update sitting in my downloads folder, I've googled around looking for the 3.0 update (which I haven't found), and I don't even know if 1.2 beta will upgrade that high without other upgrades.
Thanks for all your help, but I think I need a little more.

  • I cannot upgrade Boot Camp 3.3 to 5.1.5621

I have downloaded the 5.1.5621 new version of Boot Camp but it refuses to open. When I go to boot camp, there is no provision for upgrading either. If I try to open this update on OS X, it says I should go to Windows and open Boot Camp, but this does not work either.
Why can't there be a simple way to upgrade ? Beats me.
Why I want to do this ? : It seems to me that upgrading Boot Camp is the only way I could obtain the latest drivers I need, because I am constantly advised that Intel(R) Turbo boost Technology driver has a problem, also Intel(R)5 Series chipset family 3B36 needs reinstalling and, finally, also 3B3B.
Could someone please advise the way to proceedwith this upgrade ? Thanks

  • Upgrade Boot Camp 4 to Boot Camp 5?

I want to install Windows 8.1 on a mid-2010 iMac (OS X 10.7.5) with Boot Camp 4.0.4.  Do I need to upgrade OS X to Mavericks to get Boot Camp 5.1 since Boot Camp 4 doesn't support Windows 8.1?

    bootcamp are 3 things
    1
boocamp app which let one setup the partitions and the likes from osx
    2
a bootloader it just let you direct the boot to the osx partition or windows depending on your choice
    3
a zip file with windows drivers for the mac hardware
if one have a windows setup 1 is no longer and option
2 is rarely changed and not likely to have changed between 4 and 5
3 is a zip file that anybody can install and change as they see fit
I had Lion which was bootcamp 4.x.y and installed win7 and upgraded to win8 without making a new install
then I upgraded to mtn lion and then to win8.1 and then from mtn lion to maverics
all using the org bootcamp installation

  • Upgrade Boot camp Beta 1.4 to 2.1??

How can I get a Boot Camp update 2.1 without having to buy Leopard OS?
I run Tiger on my MBP and apparently the Apple SU for BC2.1.exe does not run unless you have BC2.0, which is only available through Leopard OS.
I understand the marketing tactics, but please....

You are updating the BootCamp / Apple drivers and services.
Like any OS update/patch, plan for the worst, and hope for the best. And no, you aren't looking at a full reinstall. However, it is my opinion, that Leopard is more significant than some thought; that the partition tables have changed which now allows for resizing and creating partitions, does have some risks.
Some had minor glitches: Option key didn't show Windows; or it didn't show OS X (never both!), or one system didn't show in Startup Disk.
I'm big fan of "backup and reformat your drives with the new OS version of Apple utility" and don't do OS X update in place or even Archive Install. If you have Leopard working fine, you're over that hurdle.
Can't hurt to take a couple hours most to use WinClone so if needed, you can restore Windows back to how it was. I would, having just spent 2-3 days on Vista. Took a full day to upgrade Vista to SP1 plus all patches and updates, along with all the applications, and then a day of backup sets etc.
BootCamp. Assistant to partition. A control panel in Windows. A set of features. A set of services and drivers to support motherboard chipset and such.
Windows doesn't run inside or under BootCamp, though installing using BootCamp Assistant does add MBR support to allow XP to be installed - and that is likely the only place that matters.
Some people have had trouble upgrading BootCamp 2.0 to 2.1. Can say the same about most every OS X update, even Safari 3.2 (see MacFixit) has caused trouble for some, as can any security update, or 10.5.5 or any other update or upgrade or software (like iTunes 8).
What it is suppose to do and what can happen, and what preparations to take, and how well you keep and maintain your system and backups, is up to you. But I also think there was less planning and QA.

  • Upgrade Boot Camp 2.1 to 3.X

I have older (2008) 17" MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.6 installed and a Windows 7 (32 bit) partition installed (upgraded from Vista). My Snow Leopard disc is pre-Windows 7; it has Boot Camp 2.1. Once I upgraded Windows about 10 months ago, I lost some "Mac" features (i.e. lighted keyboard, keyboard volume control, etc.). Everything else has been working. Now I'm deciding that I would like some of those missing features back. I'm assuming it is a driver issue.
When I try to use my Snow Leopard disk to reinstall Boot Camp drivers, I get an error message saying that I need to use Boot Camp 3.X. How can I upgrade from BC 2.1 to 3.X? Do I need to purchase another copy of Snow Leopard?

    Hi gwinchell,
if you have os10.6.6 on your MacBook then you have the the BootCamp 3.0 on the SL install DVD.

  • Blue Screen of Death every approx 20 minutes after upgrading boot camp

** This is a repost from another topic forum-- moving it to correct forum**I upgraded my mac book pro with the recommended updater for Boot Camp 2.1 and quicktime/ITunes. As soon as I did this my computer began to crash with a blue screen of death every 20 minutes or so. It would reboot and say a serious error had occurred and report it to Microsoft. In every other way it was functioning ok, but since it occurred every 20 minutes, I now have erased my boot camp partition and resurrected it from a WinClone file (boy am I glad I backed it up). I've seen a few other people having this problem-- has anyone found a solution? I'm back to boot camp 2.0 and running fine. Amount of ram is 2GB and I'm running service pack 2 of Windows XP professional. Also I have Norton Antivirus on the Windows drive.
    Mark

So I backed up my boot camp partition using Winclone and then opened up the MacBook Pro with Windows XP as the operating system. I turned off Norton Antivirus (I thought the more basic system would have less potential interactions with other systems) and downloaded bootcamp 2.1 again. Installed it and then restarted and then turned Norton back on (Norton AV has actually been a pretty stable version from my recent experience). My external keyboard is now connected and so far so good-- the computer has not been giving me the BSOD every 20-30 minutes. I remembered from long ago-- on the mac side-- I was always told to turn off virus software before installing any new software-- maybe that's what it needed? I will continue to update.
I never got a blue screen while downloading updates to windows. I've only gotten BSOD after that initial attempt to install Bootcamp 2.1 with antivirus software turned on. And I'm backed up so I can go back to version 2.0 if necessary.
    Mark:)

  • Upgrading Boot Camp 2.1 to 3.0? Does Snow Leopard upgrade it?

On a Windows partition, does the Snow Leopard disk perform an upgrade on earlier versions of Boot Camp, or does it require the removal of the previous version of Boot Camp before the new installation?
I have not seen any clear direction from Apple on this.
I would appreciate any thoughts and experiences.
    Thank you very much!

On a Windows partition, does the Snow Leopard disk perform an upgrade on earlier versions of Boot Camp
    Yes.
does it require the removal of the previous version of Boot Camp before the new installation?
    No.

  • Upgrading Boot Camp question

Do I download the boot camp upgrade from the Windows partition or the Mac partition?

    Hi,
    hunt2013 wrote:

assuming that you talk about the 3.1 BootCamp Driver update it is best to download it while in Windows.
The Driver package comes as a .exe file which can only be run while in Windows.
If needed you can download it while in OSX but have to use an USB-Memory-Stick or something similar to transfer it to your BootCamp WIndows.

  • Upgraded Boot Camp with Leopard - now constant restart

** Apologies for cross-posting. Just realized I was in the wrong topic thread.**
    Hi,
Have been running XP SP2 on Boot Camp Beta since March - all good.
Upgraded this morning to Leopard using DVD, installation went smoothly.
Now everytime I startup in XP, I get to the desktop, and then XP restarts back in Leopard.
Have tried it both with my Bluetooth keyboard & mouse, as well as the USB keyboard & mouse.
Any help would be most appreciated!

I have the same problem and spent hours on the phone with apple. Still no resolution.
It's not their OS, but it is their software, and the DO have to support it.
Don't take no for an answer. They support bootcamp and the windows drivers. (says so on the apple support page) It is their drivers that are causing the crash.
They absolutely have to support you, me and everyone else that has this problem.
If you call Microsoft they will identify it as a driver problem, and then tell you to call your hardware manufacturer for a new driver. The same thing they do to every one who owns a DELL, or and HP.
I have been searching the forums on this for a while. Previously some smart guys on the boards tracked it to apples screen brightness.exe control. The work around was to disable it. You loose the control but windows boots every time. After 1.4 came out this didn't work for me any more. I found that I had to uninstall apple's bootcamp control panel. Once I did that windows started every time since, but again I lost the controls.
I haven't tried this since upgrading, because I haven't been able to get in to windows to do it.

  • According to the apple website I need to upgrade Boot camp 3.0 to at least 3.1 in order to install Windows 7 on my iMac currently running Snow Leopard. I download the 3.1 version but it is only a text file and there doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade

In order to install Windows 7 on my iMac I need to upgrade bootcamp to at least 3.1  I currently have 3.0.4 After downloading from the website there is no way to install it - it is just a text file? What should I do?

You have to start with 3.0, which is on the OSX disc that came wih your Mac.

  • Problems with graphics after Boot Camp upgrade (from 3.1 to 3.2)

Right, today I upgraded Boot Camp (the first time I used iTunes on Windows so thats way I never did the upgrade before) from 3.1 to 3.2 and after the installation my screen went blank/black. After restarting iMac it the screen appeared but in 1024x768 resolution and without working graphic drivers.
I tried many different options to update the ATI HD 4850 driver, but none of them worked. It always says that there is some problem with it, but it also is up to date every time I try to update it manually for the drivers which comes with 10.12 Catalyst.
I spend several hours trying to solve it, but I just can't and I really don't know what to do next.

Right, I managed to fix it by updating the software manually, but selecting to choose from the list and I had to install the mobility drivers.

  • Can't Install Boot Camp 3.0 on 64-bit Windows 7 system

I have 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate running on HD#2 on a Mac Pro 2,1 system (2006). I've installed the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers after I installed Windows, I forget why I needed them, maybe for an old Apple keyboard.
Anyway, I can't install Boot Camp 3.0 from the Snow Leopard DVD - the installation runs to completion, but generates various error messages, one of which says that Boot Camp 3.0 64-bit can't be installed on this system.
I really need 3.1 now because my Magic Mouse won't work, and I can't sync Mobile Me.
Is there a fix or a workaround to upgrade Boot Camp on this system? Should I use Windows Uninstall to get rid of Boot Camp 2.0 first?
If it matters, Windows 7 is the upgrade version from Vista Ultimate.

    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Click on "Downloads", (underneath the big hard drive icon), scroll down a bit and there is a link for "Boot Camp:Upgrading to Windows 7" and another link for Version 3.1 which you need for 64 bit to work right after 10.6.4(?). I would just try downloading the Boot Camp 64bit 3.1 file and try that first if you already have Window's 64 bit installed.
Don't forget you need a WIRED keyboard AND mouse if you need to reinstall Window's.
Here's another link that is all over the place on which machines and which Windows works and what doesn't...

  • Boot Camp V-2.1 will not install

Boot Camp installation of upgrade to Version 2.1 will not install. Can anyone help me?

    Hi,
Probably this reply is in the wrong post, but I just registered to this forum. I had the same problem with upgrading Boot camp to 2.1. The MAC OSX I am running is in Dutch and my Windows XP version is English. I started all over again installing Windows from scratch on the Boot camp partition. But now I did not make any changes during setup when it comes to keyboard and language support. After installation I ran the Boot camp 2.0 software from the MAC OSX CD (now it suddenly appeared in English instead of Dutch the first time), rebooted the machine and then successfully installed the Boot camp 2.1 update!
As read on Internet here and there, the problem seems to occur when there is some kind of regional setting problem or other language incompatibility.
Hopefully it helps a little (although I was not happy doing it all over again).

  • Installing new NVIDIA Drivers in Windows XP (under Boot Camp)

    Greetings,
This may seem like a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. Are we able to download and install the latest 9600M GT WinXP Drivers made available here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforcenotebook_winxp_185.85whql.html ?
I noticed the ones that came with my MBP 15" are 177.56, but NVIDIA has posted new ones, 185.5.
Can I update to the latest drivers or am I restricted to the ones that came with my MBP and Leopard Installation?
    Thanks!

I have been repeatedly advised by Apple that future Boot Camp upgrades may not install properly if users have installed different drivers manually.
I had experienced this myself on my late 2007 MacBook Pro, and I had to roll back the drivers in order to upgrade Boot Camp.
Many issues have been reported about driver conflicts in Boot Camp on the unibody MacBook Pros, and Boot Camp is definitely due for an update. For these reasons, I have chosen not to manually update drivers on my unibody MacBook Pro.
    I hope that this helps!
    Good luck!
