Upgrading BPS solution to Integrated Planning

Hi all,
We are at the moment upgrading a web solution for profit center planning from BPS to Integrated Planning.
In that context we have two issues:
1) In BPS we used a user specific variables to specify which profit centers the users had access to. This solution worked well, and it was easy to maintain with the upload functionality specified in one of the "How to .. documents".
Does anyone have an idea about how we can get the functionality above in IP ?
2) In BPS we implemented the document "how to display all comments for a planning package". This functionality we used to get an overview of all the comments created during planning.
Does anyone know how to get a similar functionality in IP ? In this context it is important that we are also able to make a nice print of the documents.
Hope to hear from you.
Kind regards,
Mikkel

Hello Mikkel,
1) User specific variables are replaced by personalization of variables in BI-IP.

2) Documents can be displayed using standard functionality:

  • BPS vs BI Integrated Planning

    Hi All,
I was trying to get the functionality of users editing/entereing the comments in the web report and that gets stored in the cube.
Creatde a infoobject as a place holder with no master data.
I followed this How to Guide:
How To... Flexibly Change Characteristic Values and Comments in BI Integrated Planning
I was able to do everything in the BW but I couldnt do the steps in Integrated planning as we are still on BPS.
I tried to do similar steps in BPS as in Integrated planning and got stuck at a step where we have to use the variables.
Variables created in BPS should be used in the query deigner while building the query which was not possible in BW-BPS as in BI Integ.Planning
So I created seperate variables . Now can anyone tell me if there is a way to pass the value of SEM variable in to BW variable and vice versa ?
I have my coding for REPOST function in SEM.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Prasad

    Hi Prasad,
have a look at this HowTo-Guide:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b00f1721-c370-2910-b08b-9f0c56df5754
But actually I don't know if it's possible to pass a value from a BPS-Var to one BW-Var. because I've worked with IP or BPS but nothing in parallel.
    Good luck,
    Clemens

  • Difference between BPS, MAP and Integrated Planning

    HI Experts,
We have a plan to implement the BPS (Business Planningand Simulation) and MAP (Merchandise and Assortment Planning) in retail.
In our BI 7.0 can i use Business Planning (Integrated Planning) or i need to go for BPS and MAP individually.
    Pls suggest me.
    Best Regards,
    Rams.

You also have BPS in Bi 7.  Points to consider:
    1. Future development and new functionalities will be deliverred on IP framework, though you can use old BPS in BI7.
    2. IP does not some of the features that BPS has, but hoping that SAP will deliver them down the road.

  • BPS vs. Integrated Planning

    Hey everybody,
could you give me in some short points the most obvious differences between BW BPS and Integrated Planing?
    Thanks in advance!
    Philipp

The most important thing about IP is common tolls are used for planning and analytical services.Ex, WAD and BEx Analyzer is used for creating web based and excel bsed planning applications as well as for reporting purposes.
For complete details please refer to the BI Features document either in sdn or service market place. Thanks

  • COPA Vs BPS (BI Integrated Planning)

    Hi.
I would like to know if BPS or BI-Integrated planning replace the COPA module in SAP.
    Cheers
    Anand

    Anand,
The COPA data that is extracted will be stored in the data warehouse layer of BI 7 and which can be accessed  by a report in query designer in which the planing will happen.
The dtaa flows is like this:
1Enter and record all the business transactions in R/3 - various modules and components and transfer them to COPA.
    2. Build COPA data source in R/3
    3. Extact the COPA data to COPA DSO or Cube in Bi 7
    4. Make a planning cube in BI 7.
    5. Create aggregation levels, filters based on planning cube and actual cube.
    6. Create planning functions to do perform planning calculations and apply business logic.
    7. Create input ready query in query designer.
    8. Launch the query and planning.
Also, since BPS  is also present in BI 7 along with IP, you can do the planing in BPS component also, but any future functionalities will be delivered towards IP.

  • Integrated Planning vs BPS - Planning Function and filters

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a planning function previously defined in a BPS system into a new system with Integrated Planning. Some considerations:
    BPS:
    - I define first a planning level on a planning area. In this level I set some selection values.
    - Then I define a planning package that can contain other further filter values
    - Then I create my planning function
    - Then I create a parameter group that contain parameter values the function will use.
    Integrated Planning:
    - I can create a planning level and, separately, I can define more than one group of filters;
    - Then, I can create a planning function, where I can set some fixed values in the "field used for condition" tab. These values are common for every user that launch the function.
So, from my point of view, it seems that:
    BPS: I have 3 points where I can set filter parameters (level, package and parameter group), and I can launch for example the same function selecting different packages or different parameter groups;
IP: I have only one point where I can set filter parameters (Filter, defined on level)
Is all right? In this case, I don't exactly know how to migrate the same function defined in BPS in the Integrated Planning environment.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for the support!
    Gianluca

    Hello Gianluca,
    BPS: I have 3 points where I can set filter parameters (level, package and parameter group), and I can launch for example the same function selecting different packages or different parameter groups;
IP: I have only one point where I can set filter parameters (Filter, defined on level)
In IP you have 2 places, Filter and the function itself. In the function you will get characters for conditions where you can again filter. Migration is simple.
And in BPS? If I define a planning package with a filter (example: Country = Italy) and I select this filter during the launch of the function, do I see records with country = Italy in my reference data?
I guess you are mentioning package as filter. If yes then yes you will only get Italy data in your reference.
The parameter group restrictions in BPS are done in planning function itself in IP. But one difference is in BPS it allowed multiple parameter groups.
And I think even in BPS FOX brought reference data that were subsets of restrictions made in packages and planning level. I dont think in BPS also we were able to read reference data out of the planning level and package.

    T-Bird.

  • Performance of "Distribute by key" in Integrated Planning

    Hi
I am currently working on an assesment solution in Integrated Planning on SAP BI 7.0, SP 12.
I amcreating a small test where I have copied appr. 5500 records into a transactional cube. On this cube I have a separate aggregation level which is basis for the next step.
Then I want to distribute these 5500 records. I created a "Distribute by key" function for this without selections, doing a top-down for all, changing 0PROFIT_CTR to a specific value with the factor 50. Regarding the factor there used to be 2 lines but I deleted one to debug.
Then I added this to a planning sequence as the only function. Running this in the dialog process it reads 5500 records and moves them to the correct 0PROFIT_CTR.
HOWEVER, it takes around 30 minutes!!! Doing it in the background isn't much better. There are no other processes running, and performance is besides from this quite good.
Do you have any explanation for this?
    Br Karsten

SAP has solved the issue. You can see the solution from the correspondance below:
    Hello Karsten,
the filter does not only restrict the transaction data that you are
processing. It is also taken into account when the system generates
possible characteristic combinations which is done in your case.
Without restriction, the system tries to generate all possible
combinations. With a restriction in the filter, only the master data
values within the filter restriction will be used in the characteristic
    relationships.

    Hi Dirk
    Thank you for your feedback!
However, I have an elaborating question.
Why should I restrict better in the filter? I could also filter on
period but I would still get the same amount of records. But would it
still improve performance due to the characteristic combination
    creation? If so, why?
I am just trying to understand the issue, so I can avoid it in the
    future.

    Dear Karsten,
it seems the situation described in SAP Note 1015400 applies to your
problem with the planning function performance.
The system is busy with creating characteristic combinations for
the characteristic relationships. Please apply the note in your
system and find a better restriction for filter DISTKEYTEST.
    Then test the performance again.

  • Questions about Integrated Planning and BPS

    Hi all,
I'm testing the functions of BW7.0. And at the point of comparing the new BI Integrated Planning from the BPS, I'm stuck with 3 problems. Can anybody give me some solution?
<b>i.</b> When using the input-ready layout of the BW-BPS 3.5, I was able to create a new record and load it up to the cube. Is it possible to make the same operation like this using the BI Integrated Planning of BW7.0?
<b>ii.</b> When using the BW-BPS 3.5, showing the character hierarchy on the Manual planning layout can be chosen. And I'd like to show the BPS Characteristic Hierarchies in BI Integrated Planning of BW7.0 like it is in the BW-BPS 3.5. Is it possible to show the hierarchy in similar type somehow? If not, can't I show the sum of it anyhow? And if possible, can you also show the sum of the each hierarchy and change the data?
<b>iii.</b> When showing the Characteristic combination data, can you choose how to show them from the transaction data or from all the combination like it was possible in the BW-BPS 3.5?
    Kind regards,
    Hiroshi Iwanaga

    Dear Beat,
    Thanks for your help.
The information you gave me made a lot of help.
Can I ask you more about the first question?
About getting new lines in the table web item,as you have told me, I have set the parameter NEW_LINES_COUNT as 20 in the table web item. But when I execute it,no lines shows up. Is this a program error or am I setting the parameter in a wrong place?
And this getting new lines feature, is it also possible when using a workbook?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Integrated planning Content and SEM-BPS Content

    Hi Experts
Is there any integrated planning Business Content for CRM? Where do I find it?
SEM-BPS has Business Content planning scenarios for CRM. Is this BC also available in BW-BPS now? Where do I find it?
We use NW04s BI and CRM 5.0.
    Kind regards
    Erik

    Hello Erik,
as of now I have not heard of such content.
Also SAP is not talking about CRM-content for BIIP yet. What we have learned is that a lot effort is put into making the system stable and going for "additional" functionalities like BC later.
What you could do is use BW-Business Content for CRM as far as possible (InfoCubes etc. ) and build the Aggregation Levels, Queries & Templates by yourself.
    Hope this helps

  • Relation between Integrated Planning and BPS

    Dear all,
I am just considering about using the BI Integrated Planning. I have a few question about the relation between BW-BPS and BI Integrated Plannning. Can anybody tell me about the near future about these both two? Is the BI Integrated Planning going to replace the BW-BPS or are they going to co-exist instead? Do we have to use them both? Although I'm not used to the new features of BI Integrated Planning, I just quite don't get what is the advantage of using them besides ensuring the future development.
    Best regards,
    Takashi

    Hi Matsumoto,
I have recently implemented both BW-BPS and IP on 2004S.
I have always started with trying to implement IP instead of BW-BPS because, as we all agree, it is the future. Another reason was personal: I wanted to learn IP.
Sometimes I however had to switch to BW-BPS because of following reasons:
    - the front-ends are more advanced if the users have a SAPGUI installed. The Excel front-end of IP is more advanced compared to the Excel GUI version of BW-BPS. IP is based on workbooks (the same as BW workbooks). Workbooks have more flexibility than BW-BPS Excel GUI version. The problem is that you need the 2004S gui to use IP via workbooks. Installations of the 2004S gui is rather complex and is almost impossible to install remotely because there are so many components involved.
    - the front-ends on the web do not require a SAPGUI and are more advanced in BW-BPS. In BW-BPS, you can use the office web components (Excel on the web) where you can copy past, etc. The IP web version is HTML based and does not yet support the office web component. You can use it for data entry of a limited number of data but is hard to use for large volumes.
    - BW-BPS for now supports more hierarchy features than IP. Displaying hierarchies can be done on IP. If you want to do bottom-up or top-down planning, it is adviseable to develop on BW-BPS; Again, these features will in the future be supported by IP but are not yet.
    - performance: saving is quite slow in IP compared to BW-BPS.
    - timing: if you want to move fast, go for BW-BPS. There is a lot more documentation on forums, you will have a lot less problems etc.
By the way, Sean is 100% correct about the instability of IP. We had to implement a number of notes and had SAP to create new notes for problems we had.
Please assign points if this solved your problem.
    Best Regards,
    Filip

  • Distribute new entries against existing reference data, Integrated Planning

    Dear Experts,
Within IP, I struggle with how to distribute new entries against existing reference data.
    Example:
    Reference data:
    Product   /   Customer   /   amount
    P1               C1                  100
    P1               C2                  150
    P2               C2                  120
    P2               C3                  100
New data:(data entered on product level, therefore not assigd to customer yet)
    P3          #                    150
How can I distribute product P3 to Customers with reference to the data on product P1 ?
    Many thanks,

    Hi Hyma,
This documentation indeed indicates that you can use other characteristic values in the parameter group to be used for reference, good news !, but this is based on SAP-BPS ?
The SAP-BW IP documentationn does not include this information can you confirm this solution works for Integrated Planning using the conditions within the function distribute with reference data ?
    Many thanks,

  • Status and Tracking customizing + BI Integrated Planning

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a Status and Tracking (STS) solution for our Integrated planning application. I understand this might be somewhat cumbersome, as STS is created for BPS - but still SAP has said it should work for BI-IP aswell.
I see I have to make use of Planning Areas. Even though we are using BI-IP, I quickly created a plan.area i BPS0 based on one of our real-time cubes. My problem appears in the 3rd "step" of the STS customizing where I am to "Determine a hierarchy for Subplan".
I get the error: "Error when reading the hierarchy" after filling out the fields... Any ideas?? Does it have to be a BPS-type hierarchy. There is nothing wrong with our hierarchy (as we use it for planning and reporting etc), so I cannot understand the error.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jon Anders
PS. Feel free to share any other issues or thoughts about using STS with BI-IP.

    Hi,
we're using a multi-characteristic hierarchy for STS for our cost center planning. Our STS hierarchy has then one root text node, a misc business unit node below (that's your single characteristic node), a range of profit centers under that and finally the cost centers.
Actual Planning is only done on the cost centers, but since we derive the profit center from the cost center, a profit center leader can lock planning for all subordinate cost centers by locking his profit center if the cc/pc association written to the cube matches the STS hierarchy.
In the case of your profit center hierarchy, you'd probably have the root text node, then some bogus profit center you don't do any planning on, and underneath all remaining profit centers. Instead of the first profit center you could probably also use the controlling area as a characteristic (how many do you have?)
Bear in mind that any characteristic you have in the hierarchy needs to appear in the planning area and hence in the infocube.
    Does this help? Regards,
    Tilman

  • Problems with HowTo "Creation of BI Master Data in Integrated Planning...)

    Hi,
one of our customers need a planning application in which he can create master data for different attributes, insert some key figures for this attributes and changes already planned key figured.
For the last two point I've already found a working solution, the first point (creating of masterdata in web template) is still a problem. After a little search, I found a howto-guide "Creation of BI Master Data in Integrated Planning (IP) through Web Layouts", in which the necessary steps are described, how to do this (please see following link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/607193d5-cdd5-2b10-c699-8ff04c3124f6)
Does anyone of you know this guide and was able to build a working solution?
I have different questions, maybe you could help me:
    - what kind of variable is he using?
    - do I need a DataProvider in Web Template?
    - how do I get the connection to the used variable in the button group?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Tim

    Hi Timo,
you require two howtos to implement the solution.
First, please take a look at the first document:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/10d2b273-0e12-2c10-fab3-a34bde559f92?QuickLink=index&…
In chapter 3 you see the prerequisites (note 1101726 and notes 1384495, 1387004 and 136772). By this, you change the system behaviour, not to check if the new inserted master data is valid (it can't be valid, because the entries are new!)
And after this please implement the solution from the how to.
Furthermore you can take a look at this how to, which might help you too:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/607193d5-cdd5-2b10-c699-8ff04c3124f6?QuickLink=index&…
Even if my first post is a bit old, my customer still uses this solution, at the moment we are on 7.3 sp06, so it is working in newer releases too.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Tim

  • Use of forecast planning function in Integrated planning

    Hai ,
Can I Know What is the use forecast planning function in Integrated planning.
    Give me One Example.
Please tell What i hv to select in aggregation level, Filter, and Planning function for doing forecast.
    Regards
    Kishore.

    Hi,
Filter is indeed used in IP similar to how planning package was used in BPS. There really is no difference 'conceptually'.
What you have seen is the different options IP offers compared to BPS regarding planning function execution. You can execute planning function directly or using a planning sequence in an application (although in planning modeler, its only a planning sequence that can be executed, for eg., for testing purpose).
If you just execute a planning function without specifying any restriction, it will operate on the entire set of planning data. Whether its a planning sequence or planning function, the data it operates on can be restricted by binding the various characteristics (or variables) using various DPs in the application. What kind of dynamic selection are you looking at?
You can see following links if you have not read them already -
