Upgrading Compressor 1.2.1

I need to compress some video to H.264 is there way to upgrade Compressor to 2.1 or 3.0? (I've got 1.2) I looked into buying Telestreams "Episode" it's $495.00 which is a bit pricey. (especially since I rarely am asked to do this)
Thanks

Compressor ships with Logic Studio as well as Final Cut. I imagine there are probably more Apple apps that come with a copy of Compressor too--Shake, for one--and the Logic and Final Cut Express versions, or whatever they're called, probably include a copy too. (And, if you only need a functioning version of Compressor, it might be as simple as updating and upgrading your codexes and system/user media info to reflect any changes in the media files you're working with.)

  • How can I upgrade Compressor 1.2 to 1.2.1?

Everything was going so well, I had DSP 3, upgraded to FCE HD and I know Compressor upgraded to 1.2.1. Life was good.
For reasons...I had to re-install DSP 3, I noticed Compressor was ver. 1.2, and I wasn't able to export FCE HD "using compressor".
Since then, I tried deleting and re-installing FCE HD, but I read it does not contain Compressor. Even though 1.2.1 is for FCE HD, so you can export to it. Software Update does nothing. Apple downlaods will not let me upgrade...I get a page asking me to enter serial# for DSP 4 or FCP 5, which I do not have. How did it get updated? Help.

Got it....top right corner of that page directs you to DSP 3 owners. From there you can upgrade.

  • How do I change export settings in Compressor 4?

In the old compressor, I could export a movie and choose all my own settings pertaining to size, quality, streaming or not, keyframe rate, data rate, compression type, aspect ratio, etc..., same was true of the old Final Cut.  So in making FCP X, they removed that functionality and forced me to go through Compressor to have that ability.  Now they've upgraded Compressor and, apparently, removed that functionality from there, as well.  So where do I go to have control over any of that?  Is it possible anymore?  Come on, Apple, don't make it more difficult.  I'm all for upgrading a software's interface to make it more user-friendly, but don't take away functionality, please.

    Found some info...
Had to save the export to the custom area, but the main thing I was missing was to show the inspector window.  Once there I could manage all the settings I was complaining about
Peace.  Thanks, Apple.  Sorry for jumping the gun.

  • Compressor 3.5 changes Aspect Ratio

I've been using FCp for years now making HD 1080i originals and using compressor to make H.264 deinterlaced QuickTime clips to upload. After the upgrade, none of my pre-established settings work as expected. The main problem is that the 16x9 aspect ratio has now changed. All of my compressed films are coming out very wide and stretched. I have played with several settings but can't seem to modify an old setting file or make a new one that provides consistent results. When I do stumble upon something that yields 16:9 like my original source the quality is nowhere near what I was getting prior to the upgrade. Is there a simple answer to this, like a new switch I am missing or is this a bug? I have been reading that compressing HD down to a SD DVD isn't as pretty as before either so I'm wondering if there's an underlying issue with the 3.5 upgrade or the latest OS upgrade. It seems like when I first upgraded compressor was fine, but I'm not sure I didn't compress many files. Now I'm up to OS 10.5.8 and for sure my aspect ratio is diferent than before. Any ideas??

Though it's nice to be able to export directly to Compressor, I've gone back to my old method, which works fine: I export as a "Quicktime Movie", making sure I am set to "Current Settings", "Make Movie Self-Contained" and do not "Recompress All Frames".
I then send this file to Compressor and run my "VimeoHD" preset and everything comes out fine.
The extra step is worth the reliability and troubleshooting factor. You also don't have to have both FCP & Compressor open at the same time talking to each other, which means you have more resources devoted to your compression.
I still wonder if this problem happens in FCS3?

  • It´s not possible to use compressor  when  exporting to compressor 4.0.7 from FCP 10.1

It is not possible  to work  with Compressor 4.0.7 from a Project send fro FCPx 10.1
I did not  upgrade  compressor to the  last  because it does not  give the possibilities of  version  4.0.7
    Any  suggestions?Thanks

Yes. Export a master file from FCP and bring  that exported file into Compressor's source file well.

  • Final Cut Studio & Logic Studio upgrade issue

I am mainly audio based but have been working on projects more recently with Final Cut Studio 2 to deal with the video. As I use both Logic Studio 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2 a lot, and Final Cut Pro less, I plumped for the upgrade to Logic Studio which also contains STP 3 and Compressor 3.5 which seemed the right thing to do.
However the install info and dvd doesn't want you to install STP 3 or Compressor 3.5 if you have Final Cut Studio 2 as they "contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Personally I didn't want to run to the expense of upgrading Final Cut as I don't use Motion, Colour or Cinema Tools and although I am working heavily in DVD Studio Pro they haven't done anything to upgrade that application (boo!)
So what's the deal? Am I unable to upgrade ST Pro to version 3 and also unable to benefit from the upgraded Compressor even though I've actually paid for an upgrade that promised me these options, and no mention until I'd opened the package that there would be any incompatibility issues with Final Cut Studio 2!
Anyone know what these 'incompatible components' are?
Sounds like sharp practice and bad product integration to me...

I just spoke with someone in Apple Reseller Channel Sales and he told me that what is shipping now is strictly the Universal version. So, if you order a Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP HD ($699 retail, IIRC), you will receive the FCS Universal version in the big box with all the docs.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

  • Cannot re-install Motion 2.1.2

    Hello out there.
I seem to be having troube re-installing Motion 2.1.2.
I know it's an old version of Motion, however I cannot afford the new updates as of yet.
I had to remove my previous installation due to the fact that I could not complete such menu functions as: "Save As" and "Export" and as you know, if you cannot save or export out of Motion, the product is pretty much useless.
Anyway, when I go to install Motion from the DVD disc, it gets almost to the end of the process and then gives me an error that: "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
    I've never experienced this before.
I gave the logs a look in Console and found the data posted below.
Can anyone make sense of this or help me out?! I'm in a time crunch on a project.
    Thanks!!

Reinstalls of Apple software rarely accomplish anything but your uninstall probably was not properly done and there are tons of orphan files all over your system. Search for UNINSTALL and you should end up with a link to Digital Rebellion's FCS Uninstaller utility. Buy it.
You may need an app like Pacifist that deconstructs Apple's installation package scripts and allows you to pick only the pieces you want to run. See versiontracker.com.
I had to remove my previous installation due to the fact that I could not complete such menu functions as:
"Save As" and "Export" and as you know, if you cannot save or export out of Motion, the product is pretty
    much useless.< </div>
Yes, we know and we fully sympathize. But we also know the software is rarely at fault. Such issues are often simple user errors, often quite easily fixed. The luxury now of helping you through that is out of our reach now.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks Compressor 4 crashes in FCPX

After upgrading to Mavericks, Compressor 4 crashes in FCPCX, I can't share projects

    It shows this:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)
I had reinstall compressor and FCPX with no results...

  • Can't upgrade from Compressor 3.0/Final Cut 6.0

I've just installed FCS2 Retail upgrade from FCS1. FCS1 was never installed on this machine, but I did have a couple of botched installs of FCS2 here. Through extensive means, all traces of the previous installs were deleted.
Everything seems to work ok (including Compressor 3.0), but when I do a Software Update check, none of the Compressor updates (3.01, 3.02, 3.03) come up. When I go through the Apple Downloads site, no Compressor updates there either. In addition, Final Cut Pro updates also don't show (currently stuck at 6.0). Other apps in the suite updated to current versions according to Versiontracker lookups (though LiveType is at 2.1.3--LiveType doesn't show up on Versiontracker).
Pro Applications Update 2008-01 did show up in my Apple DL list (but not in Software Update), but it wouldn't install; it said something about an error (wasn't specific, naturally), and to try again (which I did not).
    So here's my questions:
    1) Why won't the Compressor & FCP updates show up?
    2) Were there enough improvements in any of those updates that I should care that they aren't showing up?
    3) Any other feedback about Pro Apps 2008-01 update?
    Thanks!

Thanks! I was beginning to suspect that. As such, I went to try the Pro Apps install again, and this time it worked! Go figure, I guess I should have heeded the installers advice when it told me to "Try Again".

  • After upgrading Finalcut the export menu does not show compressor.

How do I get the Compressor option to show up again.  I can always export to Quicktime and then use compressor but I loose the chapter points.

No, I upgraded to 7 and I found where the Compressor option went.  I was used to exporting to Compressor, In FC7 you send to Compressor.  Thanks for you assistance and time.

  • How do I upgrade to Compressor 2.0.1 for FinalCut Pro HD?

  • Compressor not working following upgrade to snow Leopard

Out-oh. I recently upgraded to a new MacBook pro and reinstalled the final cut suite. I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.2 and compressor 3.0.5. Compressor opens fine, but when I submit a job, it says, "Unable to submit to queue, please restart your computer or verify Compressor installation is correct."
Restarting is no help. Any ideas?
I'm afraid I'm going to have to re-install. But if I do that, what's stopping it from not working again? I just reinstalled the whole suite.

  • Can't run Compressor after upgrading..

    Hello everybody,
I'm really desperate now.. I need to use compressor for my dvd project, but I can't use it any more..
I think i really did something wrong..
A few days ago I installed the upgrade (3.0.1), no problem, that was just fine.
But I usually put my studio 2 programs in a sub map called work flow.. So after the upgrade I had 2 compressor files, one directly in my application folder, and one in my sub-map..
I think i replaced the older version with the upgrade or something.. When i tried to run it, it asked for a serial number.. But when i filled in the same serial as in fcp, it said it's a wrong one..
So, after that, i thought it was time for a reinstall of compressor..
But, after running the installer, it's only getting worse..
Compressor crashes now after showing the nice compressor logo..
Can someone help me?? I am really desperate..
greetings, ewald (I apologize for my bad english ;))

Hello, having the same exact problem and I hope that apple is listening because all I did was up grade from the update software. I now only get the pretty Compressor logo that does nothing and I can't access anything and that's a bear. Went to another forum and posted my delima they said to reinstall. I have done it twice. I have shake and Qmaster and they don't seem to have upgrades listed. I read on of Apples boards that Shake and Qmaster go together with compressor in the upgrade time so they should have simultaneous releases of upgrades and there was none for the other two apps. Anyone heard of this scenario. Please help...begging!
