Upgrading CPU

Hi everyone! Before 6 months I bought HP Pavillion 15-p000su. I just wanted to ask (because my knowledge about laptops is too **bleep** low..) if it's possible to change the laptop processor which now is AMD Quad-Core A8-6410M 2.00 GHz, 2 MB cache with a better one? The only thing I've been told recently is that I cannot put an Intel processor on it,so If you can confirm it I would be well...mad.   If there's any further information you need just let me know and I'll post it.

Hi,
The processor is attached to system motherboard in your model series. You can't upgrade to AMD or Intel.
Manual - Page 1
You can alternatively upgrade HDD to 2.5inch SATA SSD, that would give appreciable performance boost.

  • Is it still possible to upgrade CPU on a G4 400MHz Titanium Powerbook?

I have a Titanium PowerBook G4 model (M7952) with a 17 inch screen, originally purchased in 2001. Over recent years I have successfully upgraded the hard drive to 128GB and the memory to 1GB SDRAM.
However, I have recently purchased Leopard and attempted to upgrade the system without first checking -and subsequently discovering - that my CPU speed is inadequate (currently only 400MHz, wheras required minimum for Leopard is 867MHz).
If anyone can advise me whether it is still possible to upgrade the processor on this particular model to the required specification for running Leopard - my initial searches have appeared to indicate this may not be possible - I would be very grateful.
    Thanks, Steve

Even if it is possible, you won't be improving the system bus of the machine, so there will always be a bottleneck. Also software updates may not perform right, as the system is really only designed for built-in processor 867 Mhz or higher G4s, and not upgraded CPUs. Upgrade CPU support has to come entirely from the CPU vendor that supplies the upgrade for firmware updates, and compatibility. Essentially you will be creating yourself a jalopy. 10.4.11 is the max that will ron a 400 Mhz G4 reliably.

Hello Friends. I owner HP Pavilion dv7-6101er (lz661ea) and i want to upgrade cpu. Current CPU is A6-3410MX and socket FS1 i want replace for AMD A10-4600M socket FS1r2. But i don't shure will new cpu working in my notebook? I asked this question in ADM support, they said what both CPU is compatible, but need software support in bios of specific models of notebooks. I can't ask this question in HP support because free support time of my model is ended. Please prompt - BIOS of my notebook will support a new CPU?

All my notebooks have been made HP I always helped the company - buying its products, help you and me now. I'm not asking for much - just a concrete answer - will work or not?
No!! That is where you are wrong. I am not an HP employee.
Very few of us here in the forums are HP Employees. Those that are, with very few exceptions, are here volunteering their own time to help owners of HP products. This is a peer to peer forum where owners of HP products share their time and expertise helping others who need help. We are here to help. We are helping  as volunteers.
There is no concrete answer on this. Sometimes an upgrade to an unsupported CPU will work, but most often it will fail.  Read my previous posts. The risk of whatever currency you use in your country to purchase the new CPU is yours, not mine nor HP's.
Here is a solid answer for you...Use a CPU that is in the list in the Maintenence & Service Guide and your upgrade success chance will go up dramatically.  I cannot say your upgrade success will be guaranteed because there is always the chance that you may break something during assembly/disassembly or be unaware of a critical assembly/disassembly procedure and inadvertently destroy your new CPU.
If you want a high performance CPU and chipset in a laptop then choose well when making a laptop purchase. Laptop/notebooks are actually not meant to be upgraded.

  • Upgrade CPU AMD E-300( 1.3ghz) for laptop HP 2000

Can I upgrade CPU for laptop HP 2000 .? change CPU for this...? impossible.?
Thanks a lot...I want to help

Hello santalucia1992.  I understand you're wondering if you can upgrade the CPU in your notebook.
On some models of notebooks it is possible (though, not recommended) to upgrade your CPU.  The problems you could run into are heat concerns and power consumption concerns.  The cooling system for the notebook was designed with specific parts in mind and a faster CPU will create more heat.  Also, the notebook's power supply was meant to handle a specific amount of power as well.  A faster CPU will generally use more power.  Also, some CPUs are soldered to the motherboard.  This means that replacing the CPU means a full motherboard replacement.
In order to look up more specific information about the notebook I'll need your product number.  I can use this to view what parts are available.  This will give me a good idea whether or not the upgrade is possible.  This document can show you where the product number is located.
I will keep an eye out for your response.  I hope you're having an excellent day!

  • Is it possible to upgrade CPU on my Satellite C

Is it possible to upgrade my AMD E1-1200 1.4ghtz processor to anything faster than that,
I want to be able to play FIFA14 apparently it drags on the current processor.
My ram is 6GB and I believe it is enough.

Generally such upgrade is not supported by any notebook manufacturer.
But I read in some threads that some people were able to upgrade the Intel CPUs in own notebooks. But your notebook (what notebook model is it exactly???) seems to be equipped with AMD CPU and I guess the chipset is from AMD too.
In such case only AMD CPU would be compatible with the AMD chipset.
However, even if the AMD chipset would support another CPU, I guess you would get some problems with the BIOS. In many cases the BIOS compatibility could be the main reason why an CPU upgrade would not work.

  • Mac Pro 2006 upgrading CPU

I have a 2006 Mac Pro Intel with 2 2.66 dual cores and would like to upgrade them to 2 2.66 quad cores. I can't afford a faster unit. I use FCP 6 and it takes me forever to render video but at least these will help me speed it up a little.
I emailed xlr8yourmac.com about this 2 weeks ago seeking help but got no response. I found no posts there or here in apple discussions to help with the questions I've listed below.
Ebay has some used ones but I don't know what units to buy. I went to Intel and they list different "Categories" of (discontinued) Xeon X5355's like "FC-LGA6", "PASSIVE FC-LGA6" and "FC-LGA6 TRAY". Inside each "Category" there are 2 different "Socket" types: "PLGA771" and "LGA771". Then there are *"Spec Codes"*: "SLAEG", "SLAC4" and "SL9YM". I have no idea which would be appropriate if ANY of them are.
I am NOT a techie...I do video & audio and send the computer out for repairs. The computer's way out of warranty but I've chek'd with 2 local apple authorized serv. centers and they said it may cost over $1600 to purchase and install the processors. I know this computer is old and slow but hopefully I can get another year or so out of it. I cannot afford to buy a new unit. That's not affordable right now so please don't suggest that.
    Can anyone PLEASE help me?
Thanks so much for reading this.

These sorts of upgrades are not for hobbyists, especially if this is your Work computer. If you are not a technician, you are risking turning your computer into a non-functioning pile of junk. Sell the current one and buy a faster one, possibly a used one. Or look at the Apple refurbished here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_pro?mco=MTkyMTQ5MzA
Many Macs doing these jobs are NOT compute-bound. Look at Activity Monitor and be certain your CPU is really maxed out. Often it will not be because the real problems are elsewhere. If you want to make it go faster, there are several things you can do:
    1) make sure you have enough real RAM memory. On the Activity monitor memory screen, you should be seeing Zero pageouts, and there should still be some green in the pie chart.
    2) Consider having a "System" drive, with Mac OS X, Applications, and paging only, no user files, no scratch files. This will reduce overall competition for the System Drive and make your Mac more responsive. If this is a really fast drive like a small 10,000 RPM velociraptor or Solid State Drive, that will be even better.
    3) make sure you are editing from one drive, to a different drive.

  • Database rolling upgrade cpu patch with minimal service outage

    Oracle 11gR2 Primary Instance
    Oracle 11gR2 Active Physical Standby
Requirement of applying CPU and CVE patches with minimal downtime. I believe that I've been able to apply CPU patch to Active Standby after deferring redo transport and applying patch to active physical standby first and then performing a manual switchover to have the standby become the primary and former-primary become the standby and they apply CPU Patch there and then perform another role transition to its original role.
Appreciate your experience with primary and active physical standby rolling upgrades/patches. Thanks

    Hello;
I believe you are over thinking this. All you have to do on the Standby is install the patch. No switchover, no SQL. No nothing.
The SQL will move from the Primary to the Standby.
Check the readme for the patch closely or post the patch number if you want to confirm.
    OR
How do you apply a Patchset,PSU or CPU in a Data Guard Physical Standby configuration [ID 278641.1]
( If it helps I had the same thoughts after my first Data Guard setup !! )
If you are trying to avoid downtime entirely the switchover will take about as long as the patch.

  • Upgrade cpu or get a new laptop?

I currently have a compaq presario cq56 notebook pc that only has the intel celeron processing unit (Sadly my mom didn't know anything about cpu or memory and just picked a random laptop for me). I am constantly running into conflicts because the cpu is too slow to suit my needs, I'm a college student that is constantly working on ten things at once!
I am very satisfied with the laptop other than the cpu problem so I've run into the dilemma of not knowing whether or not to try and upgrade my processor or simply get a new laptop all together.
Buying a new processor is cheaper than a new laptop (the cheaper the better since college forces me live on way too tight of a budget) but I don't even know how to find out what processors are compatible with this laptop specifically. I think the intel core i5 would be strong enough to suit my needs but will that processor be compatible with the compaq presario cq56?
So basically, would it be worth it to just upgrade my CPU or will that not change much and should I just take the leap and get a completely new laptop?
    current processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU    900 @ 2.20GHz   2.19GHz
    current installed memory:     2.00 GB
current system type:     64-bit operating system

    Hi,
This is a list of processors supported from day 1:
    Intel® Celeron® 900 processor (2.2 GHz)
    Intel® Pentium® T4500 processor (2.3 GHz)
Intel Celeron T3500 processor (2.1 GHz)
Intel Celeron T3300 processor (2.0 GHz)
Looks like you can't upgrade to anywhere only some T or may be P CPU's.
    Regards.

  • Wanting to upgrade CPU in Satelite L20-196

    Hi there,
I'm new to this forum but have owned this Laptop from new a fair while now. As time has gone on I have noticed it has aged rapidly in the last few months and is in need of a speed boost.
I upgraded the RAM, a matching pair to 1GB (896MB showing, assume it's graphics shared?) but is still not quite fast enough.
My question is, can I upgrade the processor to a Pentium M or at-least a faster Celeron?
If so then what is the best possible CPU that will be compatible? Googling around I see i'm not alone on this idea but all the info and comments where of other L20's and not my 196 model in question.
Am I right in thinking that the limits are 400Mhz FSB, 1.5GHz and 478 Pin for this Laptop?
Lastly, I have replaced and rebuilt many PC's in the past. Is a laptop (my L20) alot more difficult to remove and replace a CPU?
Thanks and look forward to hearing any feedback on this matter.

    Hi Andrej,
Yeah it is getting old but I really don't want to drop this notebook just yet, partly because it's spent most of it's life getting the bloody screen repaired several times over (lol), and partly because despite laptop tech being so much more advanced and more affordable, this one seems to have been reliable so far (touch wood).
As for gaming, it's 'OKAY' in the since it plays small fun freeware titles and older games (Worms Blast for example).
Looking at eBay and the like, if my assumptions are correct about what CPU's this may take from my first post are listed in working condition for about 10.00 ($16 - $18).
If it would work, I really wouldn't mind going through the hassle of swapping them even if its only a mediocre improvement over the old.
Still alot cheaper then buying a whole new laptop, hopefully I can hold out longer if I can replace the CPU, that's the whole idea of this thought.
Thanks for the link though, nice to know most Toshiba's have sockets for the CPU. :)

  • Upgrading CPU board on sunfire V490

    Hi All,
im trying to upgrade a sunfire v490 by installing a second CPU board.
I have the 1st board fully populated of 2 GB RAM in 16 slots (total: 32 GB) and the 2nd one containing 1GB RAM in 8 slots (total: 8GB)
However, im getting POST errors when i startup the server with both boards. I tried to swap boards among slots => same results.
Whenever i try to boot with each CPU board alone => no problems were found.
Kindly assist please if any helpful suggestion.
    Regards

If all of the below requirements are met, then can you provide the POST output, so we can have a look?
    Notes
    - The minimum V490 and V890 OS is Solaris 8 2/04, Solaris 9 4/04, or Solaris 10 3/05.
    - Sun Fire V490 and V890 OBP >=4.15 Version 6 is required.
    - Mixing UltraSPARC III and UltraSPARC IV CPU/Memory boards is not supported.

    - Four DIMMs of the same size form a group.
    - The minimum memory configuration is sixteen DIMMS.
    - Memory errors include CPU number, J number, and Slot location.
    - DIMM groups associated with a failed CPU are unavailable for use.
    - Interleaving is limited to memory on the same CPU/Memory Board.
    - Two-way interleaving occurs in any group when the DIMM size does not match the size used in any other group.
    - Four-way interleaving occurs between any two groups when the DIMM sizes are the same.
    - Eight-way interleaving occurs when the DIMMs in all four groups are the same size.
