Upgrading CS4 from CS or CS2

I would like to upgrade to PS CS5. I have CS, which from its absence on the upgrade eligibility charts suggests it is not upgradeable. Maybe this is a stupid question but does Adobe ever relax their upgrade policies on a one-on-one basis?
If not, then my other avenue for an upgrade is to purchase CS2 from a good friend who no longer uses either PS or the computer it's on, and is willing to deactivate CS2 and sign such papers as Adobe may want to transfer ownership to me. Does anyone know how to transfer ownership or what Adobe's position is on this?
Thanks.
Bob

  • Upgrade to CS4 from Academic/Education CS2?

Can I upgrade to a regular CS4 Web premium from an academic CS2?
    Thanks,

Yes, moving from CS2 to CS4 is a major step, especially since you're using an unsupported operating system. Each application has had many new features and enhancements added them.
You can check out my favorites for InDesign here: http://theindesignguy.com/cs4-thoughts.shtml
And those are just from CS3. Dreamweaver has CS4 has some terrific new features such as the code navigator, live view, live code.
As for pricing, you'll need to check locally. I believe Adobe has non-profit pricing and definitely offers steep discounts to students and teachers.

  • Upgrading from Illustrator 10:  CS2 or CS3? (CS4 and CS5 do not run on my Mac)

Provided I'm able to find a legitimate copy of the upgrade version from a reputable source, which one is the highest Mac version that one can upgrade from Illustrator 10?  CS2 or CS3?  Higher versions won't run on my PPC Mac anyway.
I'm asking now because I just finished upgrading my ancient Acrobat Standard 5.x to Acrobat Professional 8 for under $29, shipped.  It turned out to be a sealed, unopened box, and I've registered it with Adobe already and collected the registration incentive received from Adobe (11 hours of training at lynda.com).
Any input will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    CS4 requires OS10.4.11 or newer.
Basically, you can go all the way to CS4 or anything short of that. Without moving past the PPC chip and OS10.4.11.
Since CS4 will work, CS3 will certainly work. I believe CS3 required OS 10.4.8 or newer. Checking my disk.... yup 10.4.8 or newer. I would simply look for whatever you can find, short of CS5. That itself may sort out what you can purchase.
Actually thinking upgrades.. you're right. Only 3 versions. So for "upgrade" you're limited to CS3 from Ai10. CS3 will run great on a PPC with 10.4.11. I'd search for that if possible. I wouldn't settle for CS2.

  • Upgrade to CS4: from CS2 upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full

Ok, I've decided to go to CS4 from CS2 on my Intel Mac.  Yeah I bought CS2 unknowingly for my Intel Mac and have not been happy with the performance.
Are there any special install procedures for doing a fresh install of CS4 upgrade on Snow Leopard 10.6 (not that it really matters that it is 10.6 vs. 10.5), with CS2 Upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full?
If I remember correctly I had to call Adobe when I went from Photoshop 3.0 to CS2 with the Upgrade disc.
How might the install process go?

    Web logic should upgrade first

  • Upgrade Photoshop from CS2 to CS3 in Macintosh

I am currently using Photoshop CS2 Mac version and DO NOT have CS3 beta version installed. I have couple installation questions whose answers are hard to find anywhere else, hope I can find them from this forum.
Since I heard a lot of troubles regarding upgrading PS from CS2 to CS3 if there is CS3 beta version already installed in Mac, I am a little be nervous. Here is my questions:
    1. Can CS2 and CS3 co-exist?
    2. Do I have to manually uninstalled CS2 prior to upgrading? If yes, how do I do it? I am assuming that CS3 upgrade should have a program to uninstall previous versions of PS, am I correct?
    3. How do I deal with my current registration?
    4. I have third-party plug-ins such as OnOne Mask Pro 4.0, nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 installed in CS2. What's the right procedure I should take to avoid their re-installation?
    5. I also have Lightroom installed now, will CS3 upgrade affect it? Do I need to take any action?
    Thank you very for help!
    Regards,
    Howard

    Patrick,
Welcome to the Macintosh. Glad the transition has worked well for you. A few quick points, here:
    1. Download the combo update to Mac OS X 10.4.11 from the Apple site.
    2. Any software that came from the previous owner must be Apple software that is included with the operating system; or, if other Apple or third party software (including Adobe or Microsoft), it must have a valid license that has been transfered to your name and you must have all discs. Otherwise, it must be deleted in order for you to be legal.
    3. The best current utilities for maintaining and optimizing your computer include: Apple's own Disk Utility (on your Mac OS system disc); Alsoft DiskWarrior; and Maintain Cocktail. Other very good tools include: Roxio Toast (for disc burning); SuperDuper! (for complete system backups); and FontAgentPro (for organizing and maintaining large numbers of fonts). Whether you just print family snapshots or you do four-color commercial printing, you need to calibrate your monitor. Look into the Spyder3 or EyeOne calibrators.
Also note that it is important to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior when you install or upgrade any software on your system. As the specifics of these have been detailed numerous times in this forum, I recommend that you do a forum search for the details.
    4. If you already have installed CS2, then you only need to purchase the upgrade version of CS3.
    I hope this helps!

  • Upgrading Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3

    Hi!
Is it possible to upgrade only Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3 or do I have to buy the whole Creative Suite 4?
I bought an upgrade for Indesign CS4, but now I can use it only as a testversion, because when I start the programme
it asks me besides the new serial number for Indesign 4 also for a serial number of CS3.
But I have only one serial number for the complete Creative Suite and this one will not be accepted.
    What can I do?

    Hello Mr. Spier,
thank you for answering. So I will buy the complete bundle.

  • I have Elements 12. It's an upgrade in most respects from the old CS2 I used for years. Except there is apparently no measuring tool. How can this be; is there a plug-in, or will Adobe fix the problem?

I have Elements 12. It's an upgrade in most respects from the old CS2 I used for years. Except there is apparently no measuring tool. How can this be; is there a plug-in, or will Adobe fix the problem? Anyone know a way around this glaring omission?

Hello again. When I said PSE 12 was an upgrade on CS2, I meant that simply from an informal point of view - and it is: it's better software in most respects. In expert mode, the features and functions are much the same as in the CS2 I had before, but enhanced and slicker. Less 16 bit colour depth and a few other things of course. Unfortunately, as it now transpires, the "few other things" has turned out to include the measuring feature.
Thanks for the work-around - only problem is ... to what Info Panel are you referring when using the line tool? I've looked around but can't see the line length being shown anywhere. Thanks in advance for any light you might be able to cast on it.
Incidentally, I upgraded my written-off Canon D5 MK II with a D6. To me it's an upgrade - it's a much better camera - though by the letter of the law, the strict upgrade path would be to a 5D MK III. One can use the word "upgrade" in this informal (but entirely meaningful) sense, I hope, without being sent to prison!!

  • Trying to Upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended

I am trying to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended.  The Adobe web page states to call Adobe support for this upgrade.  I call them before I attempt the upgrade to ask what I should do.  They tell me to intall it and call back.  I get to the serial screen and call back, they tell me to fully install it in trial mode, then call back.  I do this and call back, but notice it installed CS4 Extended, not CS4.  They tell me they can't help me because I purchased only CS4.  That is all I want is CS4, so I uninstall CS4 extended and try again.  Again the install(from disk) installs CS4 Extended(At least that is what the title page says).
Do I need to uninstall CS3 Extended before I install the CS4 Trial version?
    Thanks for any help,

    Mylenium,
Thanks for the reply.  You are correct and the next support person understood that and got it fixed.
    thanks again for your reply,

  • Upgrade CS4 to CS5 with invalid serial number from pc to mac

I bought CS4 from a registered reseller a while ago, but now when I try to register the download, it says the serial number is invalid. I am now unable to reach the reseller. I have recently moved from pc to mac and would like to purchse CS5. Is it worth trying to register the CS4 so I can qualify for the reduced rate to upgrade to CS5? Or does the change from pc to mac mean I need to purchase new software entirely and pay the full rate?

If I am right , you are planning to buy the CS5 hence the article given by Mylenium would not help as Adobe provide the platform swap for the latest version.
You have to contact Adobe ....They will check the serial number of the CS4 is valid or not....and will register for you.
Once registered  you can straight away place the order for the CS5 on the discounted price for MAC , there will be no problem weather you have the cs4 for mac or win
You should be bothered for your CS4 serial number because if you buy the upgrade of CS5 ,  when you will install the product it is gonna ask you the cs4 serial number .....hence get the serial number checked otherwise you have to buy the new software entirely.
Everything is dependent on CS4 serial numbr, buying CS5 is not the problem....you should have correct serial number of cs4 , get it checked.

  • Got an upgrade to cs4 from Elements.  Is Elements' license still valid?

I'm waiting on shipment of an upsell of CS4 from Elements 6.
In the meantime, I was wondering if the upgrade would render my Elements 6 license invalid, or if I can in fact use Elements as well (on the same computer).  I tried a search, and after a long wait did not find an answer to this, so I apologize if this has been beaten to death.
    Take care.

    "It's a monumentally dumbed-down, limited, emasculated, toy"
"If you like Elements, it's quite possible that you will find the learning curve of Photoshop too daunting."
I'm really at home with CS4 trial actually, I'm not concerned with the learning curve.
From GIMP, the few seconds to locate the new menu items... Perspective clone/Vanishing point, Liquid Rescale/Content-aware scaling, iWarp/Liquefy, etc were made up for with a more workable interface for the most part.
On the other hand, I can see me not wanting to invest much time in taking someone's ex-wife out of the beach photo, etc.  I'm thinking maybe Elements has its use.  It'd be nice.
I’m an Elements ignoramus because it's simply a product I'd normally not bother with for image editting.  GIMP and PS are my only options, none of the midrange tools cut it.
If it's a nice replacement for iPhoto on the Mac, and is more robust and can kick someone off a picture for me in a couple seconds, I could see it being of use.
Anyway it's real nice to finally have Photoshop and nice to be here.

  • Downloading Creative Suite CS4 from dvd - upgrade check?

    Hi there,
I am downloading Creative Suite CS4 from a purchased dvd. It allows me to enter the serial number but then takes me to the net screen that wants to do an upgrade check! I have no other related Adobe software! It asks me to select  product I already own, which I don't. It defaults to CS3 and then of course wants the serial number which I don't have as I don't have a previous version! If I go back to previous screen I can load a trial version and then enter the serial number after 30 days, I don't want to do that.
    Any help appreciated
    Cheers
    V

The only Windows CS4 software I can find with InDesign is this copy of Master Collection at Amazon: http://amzn.to/czqbie
That may or may not make you eligible for a free upgrade to CS5. I don't know when the offer expires but you can read about it here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15304.html?PID=2159997#I%20meet%20the%20requirements.%20Ho w%20do%20I%20place%20my%20order.

  • Upgrade paths from cs5 to cs5.5

    Hello,
I just got off the phone with customer service. I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 in late December. I would like to upgrade InDesign from CS5 to the 5.5 version. I was told this isn't an option because I own the suite.
This perplexes me since I have purchased many, many single items from Adobe in the past--from Pagemaker 3 pretty much on. Is it really true that once I went to CS2 I abandoned my rights to upgrade individual products?
It seems a bit unreasonable, after spending $600 at the end of last year, that now, three months later, I need to spend another $400 just to update one program. Am I missing something?
I am posting here because the representative I spoke with had a really, really hard time understanding English and I'm not sure he even got my question. It took him over a half hour just to find my account and verify that I had a registered version of Design Premium. He told me that part of the problem was that I have purchased so many Adobe (and Macromedia) products over the past 15 years that I now have four accounts and that it was not possible to consolidate all my software under one single account. This also sounds very odd. HELP!
    Thanks!
    Ruth

I looked into crossgrading. The whole thing was a comedy of errors. My new custom built super-charged PC developed an un-diagnoasable software error, and then got stolen after being sent in for repaired. At the time, it seemed like my best option was to start the migration from Windows, buy a Mac laptop, get software to run on it, yet still keep my Windows options open in case the PC was found. I was using a backup PC to keep work on schedule.
I used one of my Macromedia cross-platform suite products to upgrade to the Mac CS3 suite. So it wasn't as expensive as it could have been. In hindsight, yes, I should have just abandoned the PC and crossgraded. But I was very fearful after all the computer issues I had encountered that I would have problems with one or the other of the two computers and I felt I needed some redundancy just to ensure I didn't have more downtime.
I'll look through the Adobe site for a license transfer form. When I called several months ago, the agent, made it sound like these were very difficult to come by. Or perhaps, the agent just didn't know. I've ran into this several times with Adobe. One agent tells you one thing, another says something entirely different. Customer service is lacking in my opinion.

  • Saving InDesign CS4 files for InDesign CS2

I'm about to upgrade from CS3 to CS4 but have a client who needs to open documents I create InDesign CS2. I've been saving files for this clients in CS3's interchange (.inx) format, which has worked fine. But CS4 .inx files will only open in CS3. One work around I found was on TUAW (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/08/tuaw-tip-saving-indesign-cs4-files-for-indesign-cs2/), which suggests opening the .inx file in a text editor and changing the version number. The resulting file should then open in CS4. I was wondering if anyone has tried this (with or without success) or has any advice on saving CS4 docs for CS2? Thanks very much!

I'll go with option 3 since I no longer have CS2 on my machine and my
client won't be upgrading anytime soon. Thanks for the help and great
    advice.
I'd never use this workflow if I couldn't test it on CS2 before sending it off to the client. Don't know what to tell you here... good luck?
Me, harsh? Is that my rep?
Oh, come on. I can say it another way:
"Peter's going to be way too nice about this... DON'T DO IT."

  • Upgrade path from CS1 to CS3.3 OK ?

    Hello
anyone could tell me for sure ( I have had conflicting infos ) if I can upgrade my old CS1 with a brand new CS3.3 premium upgrade ?

And where exactly do you intend to buy such a thing. As Steve points out it has been several years. Additionally, there were several versions of the CS3.3 upgrade.
One was from CS3 to CS3.3 which only contained an Acrobat upgrade and another from earlier versions of Creative Suite. In fact I'm not even sure if there were separate upgrades from CS and CS2.
In short, there are a lot of bogus copies of sofware out there. Be very careful.
