Upgrading DigiStills camera so movies can be imported to imovie with audio

Hi
I currently have a Sony Digi stills camera that shoots little movies in mpeg 1 muxed format that are great BUT imovie won't allow me to import the audio into imovie HD (wrong format!)
Can anyone recomend or tell me where to find a list of digi stills cameras that WILL allow me to shoot short film clips and import the results into imovie with audio intact.
Or failing that let me know what formats are supported so i can check before buying another stills camera
many thanks

I have a Sony Cybershot that also takes movies like yours. They will import into iPhoto as little Quick Time movies with audio intact. I just open them in iPhoto, press the "record" button on my iMovie audio microphone, then start the Quick Time movie. I have to cut and line up the audio to match the video in iMovie, but it's the best solution I can come up with thus far. Anyone come up with anything easier?

  • Can we import to imovie with usb connection rather than firewire??

    Dear Friends,
I am considering purchasing a new movie camera JVC EVERIO GZ-MG50E - PAL system.
Unfortunately it has only a usb connection and not a firewire one.
I have been importing until now into imovie with firewire.
Will I be able to import to imovie with usb?
    Will this require special software?
    Hope you can help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Robert:
Consider not purchasing that camera for imovie use. You will need to convert the MPEG files to DV which imovie uses...kind of a pain actually.

  • Mts files cannot imported with audio in pro cc6. how i can import mts files with audio?

when i am importing mts files in pro cc6. every time it is being imported without audio. though original mts files have audio. how can i import mts files with audio in cc6?

To clarify Media Browser suggestion - very important that you copy ALL content from SD card to hard drive before importing using Media Browser. If you only have the .mts files alone, there is stuff missing that is needed for Premiere to properly interpret the video/audio.

  • How can i import into imovie using the camera's built in memory?

How can I import into imovie from my cannon video camera built in memory.  All that comes up when I connect the USB cable is what is stored on the memory card and it doesn't give me the option to use what is stored on the built in memory

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
With the new Photo app later this year the integration between IOS and the Mac will be much greater

After the update to Lightroom 5.7, the profile of my lenses have disappeared in the camera calibration, how can I import them again because I gave you mine Extra gespeicher. I'm working on a PC.

Can we see a screenshot that includes the filename you're viewing with its extension and the camera Make list?
What is almost always the case when someone says they are missing most of their lens profiles is that their current image is not a raw file.  It doesn't matter whether you shoot raw, it matters what the current images is.  Maybe it is an exported JPG or a Edit-In-whatever result file that's a TIF or PSD or JPG.
Here are examples of the screenshot that I'm asking for:
Raw files show 24 items in the Make list:
While non-raw files have only 9 items + None in the Make list:

I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware).  Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.
For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths.  For example:
    Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.
It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:
    file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad.  In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).
Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result.  Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.
I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind.  The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

  • Video content on Canon camera not recognised - can"t import

Hi, I can't see this problem has been posed recently but I am unable to import video content from my Canon 5D Mk11 camera into iMovie. When I connect the camera to my Mac Appeture opens (which is set as default) and enables me to import the stills on the camera. However, when I open iMovie and click on the import from camera icon all I get is the default of the iSight camera. I have previously imported from this camera but can't recall doing it since I upgraded to Snow Leapard. Can anyone offer any advice? Many thanks.

If you get no better suggestions, keep uploading your Canon still files into Aperture, but try uploading its videos to your Mac's iPhoto. You can import videos into iMovie from iPhoto.

  • Can't import from iMovie HD

I can't import my iMovieProject files from iMovie HD (the one that came pre-installed with tiger in '06)
It creates a blank file in iMovie '08.
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately you can't. I tried this awhile back and it actually messed up my imovie file completely (good thing I had it back up).
You can still take your iMovie HD project and put it into the new iDVD but you have to export it into a Quicktime movie first.
    I hope this helps,

  • Trouble opening mpeg movie files and importing into iMovie 08

Hi, I'd be most grateful if anyone could provide any solutions to the following problem...
A friend has emailed me two .mpeg movie files which are parts 1&2 of a home movie which I want to edit in iMovie and burn to DVD. The footage was shot on a miniHDV camcorder (not sure which brand).
Opening in QT 7.6 gives the following warning dialogue: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file."
The files will however play fine in VLC Media Player, but not in mpeg Streamclip (the file appears to play but the viewer is blank with no audio/video). Trying to import into iMovie is unsuccessful. The iMovie browser won't let me choose the files or drag/drop.
Any ideas. I read somewhere that iMovie 08 can't import mpeg-1 files. Do I need to convert the files, and if so how?
Thanks in advance, and apologies - this is my first experience of video editing.

I have QT Player but it hasn't "kicked in" when I try to import my videos.
Something called PIXE VRF Browser is supposed to help in the conversion. The QT MPEG-2 thingy won't install until I buy QT Pro, according to what I get on the screen.
Sounds like you have too many applications trying to do the same thing. Either use the Pixela Pixe VRF Browser or use the Mac applications (Mac OS Finder, Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component w/MPEG Streamclip) but not both to do the same job. The Apple Finder should be able to copy multiplexed VOB/MPEG-2 files from either your PC burned DVD or directly from your camcorder DVD to your MAC hard drive where MPEG Streamclip/QT MPEG-2 component can convert them for use in iMovie '08. Frankly, I don't understand your work work flow or why you want to import your files to a GOP editor in the first place if your goal is to do frame level editing in iMovie '08.
As for Jon's suggestion, I am on dial-up and cannot download big files at 3-4 Kbps snail pace.
What does this have to do with importing your camcorder files to your PC and re-burning them to DVD for use on your Mac? If I were to make a recommendation here, it would have been to use an external hard drive here rather than DVDs for transporting files between platforms and then only if you want the files available to both. If your goal is only to edit them in iMovie '08 or iMovie HD on your Mac, then why not cut out the "middleman" platform?
I wish I could purchase these updates on DVDs but the genies couldn't even tell me if there's such a service.
Totally confused here. Are you saying your DVR-D300 files were commercial produced or that you are dealing with torrent downloads of copy-written material? These are two separate issues with facets beyond the scope of this forum.
As for "platform", I have iMovie08. iMac does not read the mini RAM disks when I connect the camera to a USB port.
Are you saying the Finder doesn't read them or that iMovie '08 doesn't read them? Do you "finalize" your DVDs before trying to read them via USB as the manual states may be necessary as indicated on page 150 of your manual?
How can I find out that iMovie09 will let me import and edit my Panasonic videos?
You could try going to the Apple site and checking the the tapeless camcorder compatibility chart. The Panasonic DVR-D300 is specifically listed along with a hot link for additional information. However, this still won't help you you don't finalize the content.

  • How Much Does Camera Quality Matter for Pics Imported to iMovie?

    Hello,
Always appreciate the responses and answers I get from the forum - thanks in advance!
I am considering upgrading my digital SLR to something 10 mp or better. But wondering whether or not at some point the original quality of digital pics no longer matters because of rendering or compression that might take place once imported to iMovie or when bounced to iDVD. Put another way, is it worth spending $1000.00 for a camera thats pictures will end up in iMovie? (Because I like the Ken Burns feature a whole better in iMovie than the ton of work and less than results I get in FCE).
    Thanks again!

    Kevin,
These are all the pixels you need for iDVD: if you are using NTSC - 720x540 for 4:3 and 854x480 for 16:9; if you are using PAL - 768x576 for 4:3 and 1024x576 for 16:9. If you really like to do high Ken Burns effects zooms, more pixels will be useful, but 10 megapixels is probably more than you really need.
HOWEVER, a $1,000 digital SLR will have a lot of additional features that will give you better pictures. But only you can decide if the extra features are worth it to you.

  • MP4 can't import to iMovie 09?

I have a dc (Samsung NV24HD) that record 720p mp4 file, and it was great working with iMovie 08, but since I upgraded to iMovie 09, it is really wired that it shows that it can import my mp4 file, but after that, nothing shows at event/project area, what's wrong with it?

I have that camera and I can't get it to work with iMovie '08 or iMovie '09. I'm seeing an empty event just like you.
How did you get it to work with iMovie '08?

  • Iphoto can't import .CR2 shot with manual lenses on intel imac

I'm shooting with a Peleng 8mm on my Canon REBEL Xt, it is a manual lens and my problem is that all the pictures shot with regular EF lenses can be imported in iPhoto, but the ones shot with the Peleng freeze the import process. I got this problem on 2 different intel iMacs, never on the PPC ones. and only with CR2 (raw) pics. JPEGs are imported, whatever the lens I shot with.
My idea is that manual lenses do not feed information to the camera. (regular EF lenses inform the camera of their aperture and approx. focus distance). Consequently, the EXIF in the CR2 file has no values for the aperture and focus distance. I think the problem comes from that, but I was wondering if nobody knows a workaround. I did file bug reports, twice.
if someone want to give it a try :
    http://homepage.mac.com/karimc/iphoto_bugreport.zip
CAUTION: when you try to import the above file, iphoto hangs, you have to force-quit it and delete the contents of the "Import" folder in the iPhoto Library. Only for the strong.

Try converting the files to DNG and import that format. It should work.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Playback is the same, both from the "imported" tracks and straight off the CD.
Oh, WMP does the same, too.
    Any ideas?

it's relatively common (at least, common enough to be mentioned in troubleshooting documents and i see it reported in posts a few times each week):
You can't import or play music from an audio CD in iTunes for Windows
i don't have an especially good feel for how much this would help with this particular issue, but it might be worth following up on checking for upgraded firmware or drivers for the PC. these resources might be of some help with that:
