Upgrading Endeca Server data domains from 3.0 to 3.1

Please explain the instructions mentioned below (link for reference where it is mentioned):
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40518_01/studio.310/studio_migration/toc.htm#Application%20data%20structure%20now%20uses%20data%20sets
When you upgrade Endeca Server data domains that were ingested using Integrator ETL, you will need to ingest the records into a single data set (referred to as a collection in Endeca Server and Integrator ETL) that has its key set to "Base". The display name can then be something to represent the actual content of the records.
Setting the data set key to "Base" allows any existing components that were tied to the Base view in 3.0 to be able to display the correct data.
What "key" we are referring here, is it collection key or view key. Also, which Integrator ETL version we are referring, is it 3.0.
I tried exporting the data domain from Endeca 3.0 and importing into Endeca 3.1 with default settings, it did not work.
Thanks in advance!

Correct.
Now, keep in mind that while this will get your data up to 3.1, it is very likely (assuming you have a production app) that you'll want to consider data model changes or other enhancements to take advantage of the new functionality.
Also, there are no more child data sources, so if your application used them, you'll want to consider separate datasets, not just a base dataset.

    Hello friedns :
We have a company with about 2000 users , and two windows server 2003 domain controllers , one of them acts as a primary domain controller , and the other acts as secondary domain controller , all the FSMO s are on the primary DC ,we have decided to upgrade all of our servers from windows server 2003 to windows server 2008 , the first step is to upgrade the domain controllers to windows server 2008 , our domain controllers are so sensitive and has to be active 24 hours a day , i have stress upgrading it to windows server 2008 , what is the best solution to upgrade it with no risk ?
( i have an opinion but i am not sure and i dont have any guide about it , i want to install a windows server 2008 and promote it as an additional domain controller to the windows server 2003 DC and the transfer all the FSMOs to it , and then promote the first domain controller !!! is that possible ? if yes , is there any guide about it? )
If there is a guide available for it please let me know . (Specially if there is a tip & trick)
    thank you guys.

    Hi,
This TechNet online article might be helpful for you.
How to Upgrade Domain Controllers to Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee522994(WS.10).aspx
For your convenience, I have list some general steps for your reference.
Since the following operation have potential damage to Active Directory database, it is highly suggested that you'd better perform a full backup of Active Directory (System State) firstly. Also it is better to test the following procedure in a similar lab environment first.
    General Steps:
    =============
    1. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to the current DNS server.
    2. Make the new server become a member server of the current Windows Server 2003 domain first.
    3. Upgrade the Windows Server 2003 forest schema to Windows Server 2008 schema with the "adprep /forestprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /forestprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the schema master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
    Drive:\sources\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep
    4. Upgrade the Windows 2003 domain schema with the "adprep /domainprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /domainprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the infrastructure master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
    Drive:\sources\ADPREP \adprep.exe /domainprep
    5. Insert Windows Server 2008 Installation Disc in the new server.
    6. Run "dcpromo" on new server to promote it as an additional domain controller in existing Windows 2003 domain, afterwards you may verify the installation of Active Directory.
    Please refer to:
How to Verify an Active Directory Installation in Windows Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816106
    7. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to current DNS server.
    8. Enable Global Catalog on new server and manually Check Replication Topology and afterwards manually trigger replication (Replicate Now) to synchronize Active Directory database between 2 replicas.
Please note: It will some time to replicate GC between DC, please wait some time with patience.
    9. Disable Global Catalog on the old DC.
    10. Transfer all the FSMO roles from the old DC to the new DC.
    Please refer to:
How to view and transfer FSMO roles in Windows Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801
    11. Verify that the old DNS Server Zone type is Active Directory-Integrated. If not, please refer to:
How To: Convert DNS Primary Server to Active Directory Integrated
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816101
Note: Active Directory Integrated-Zone is available only if DNS server is a domain controller.
    12. Install DNS component on new server and configure it as a new DNS Server (Active Directory Integrated-Zone is preferred). All the DNS configuration should be replicated to the new DNS server with Active Directory Replication.
    13. Make all the clients change TCP/IP configuration to point to new server as DNS.
    14. You may configure TCP/IP on all the clients, or adjust DHCP scope settings to make them use the new DNS server.
Please note: It is a good practice to make the old DC offline for several days and check whether everything works normally with the new server online. If so, you may let the old DC online and run DCPROMO to demote it.
    Hope it helps.

  • Wrong Integration Server Data retrivied from Adapter

For unclear reasons the wrong URL to connect to Integration Server was retrieved by Adapter Framework.
This happened only once, and in this situation the xml message of a productive interface were sent to IS of an
    other system (!).
As I can see in the default trace, during the call from AF
CPA cache service to SLD, the wrong host was retrieved.
In other circumstances, we have found that sometimes the IS hostname is filled with blank, causing the AF to not dispatch successfully the messages to IS. But in this case, thanks to the patch 14 of XI AF, the message are re-sent after the next polling sequence (15 min.).
I kindly need an help to discover which is the root cause of this kind of problem.
I red note 764176 about finding inconsistencies on sld, but I have some doubts on the correct implementation in my case. In the note it's discussed about the same domain written two times (for example one in fully-qualified host name and one with a short host name). In our productive SLD there are three domain that have the same name for the technical system point of view, but three definition as CIM data, since there are originally three XI instance on the same host. So, I don't know if we are in the same condition as reported in the note.
Does anyone have encountered a similar situation? Any workaround? For example, I view in the default traces that during the SLD Access performed by CPA service, there is no defualt value for Integration Server URL, but for default client yes (100). Is there a mode to force adapter framework to set the IS Url without asking it to sld, since I.S. url is always the same?
    Thanks
    Danilo

    Hi,
The connection to the SLD is established by creating an RFC destination and The server program is called with the HTTP address as a parameter that is maintained with transaction SLDAPICUST.

  • Upgrading Weblogic server to move from jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.0 to 11.1.1.4.0

Hello, I would need clear direction to what I should do to upgrade my target weblogic server when I move my development environment from jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.0 to 11.1.1.4.0
Initial ADF project was developed with jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.0 and deployed on a WLS 10.3.0
Now we are upgrating the application and we decided to move the project to jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.4
I need help on what I should upgrade on the target WLS server.
How do we move from WLS 10.3.0 to WLS 10.3.4?
Is it a reinstall or a upgrade? How do we upgrade?
And what about just upgrating the ADF run time? Is it the way to go?
    At following link we see
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/downloads/index.html there is a Application development runtime is it the runtime that we install on the server or not?
I am confused if the ADF run time is tied with the WLS version or not, can someone give me a clear description of what is the ADF Runtime and how we upgrade it on the servers? Any Oracle documentation describing this process that I can provide to my server administrators?
At the end what is the best practice to upgrade the WLS servers when you would lilke to move like me from an older version of jdeveloper to a newer version. is there an Oracle document describing the steps to be done?
    Thanks

I'll echo Timo's question - why upgrade to 11.1.1.4 and not to the latest and greatest 11.1.1.6 (released yesterday)?
Upgrading to an older version basically means that you are setting yourself for another upgrade later on - so why not enjoy all the bug fixes and new features of the newer versions?
In terms of the upgrade process - if you look in the documentation tab of JDeveloper you'll see the book "Upgrade Guide for Oracle SOA Suite, WebCenter, and ADF" which gives the steps you can follow.
For 11.1.1.6 the book is here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/upgrade.1111/e10127/toc.htm
In the same documentation tab you'll find the certification matrix that explains which ADF version works with which WLS version:

    Best regards,
    Samuele Scattolini

    Hi Samuele,
Another issue might be related to the fact that you are running the deployment on a VM. Specifically, could it be that that the machines you were using aren't able to resolve the names to addresses?  We've seen this on VM machines - they seem to have two names configured, one of which is resolvable externally and one of which is only resolvable locally. If this indeed is the case in your deployment, try the following:
    1. Go to $MW_HOME/user_projects/domains/endeca_server_domain/config
    2. Check the contents of the EndecaServer.properties file, on all machines on which the Endeca Server is deployed. Specifically, see how the host on which the Cluster Coordinator should be running is configured.
For example, in a three-node Endeca Server cluster, this line may read as in this example:
    endeca-cluster-coordinator-hosts=host1,host2,host3
where host1, host2 and host3 are local host names of your machines.
It is possible that if your machine is configured with a fully qualified domain name, such as host1.us.oracle.com, but the EndecaServer.properties file lists this machine as host1, then, due to the fact that it is a VM, the name is not resolvable.
To see if this is the case, try changing this file to use another type of notation (say, switch from FQDN to a short name, or vice versa, depending on what is in your etc/hosts and ipconfig, and see if this works.
    Hope this helps,
Here is a doc link about the EndecaServer.properties file: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37483_01/server.751/es_install/toc.htm#Changing%20settings%20in%20EndecaServer.properties
It applies to a data domain cluster, but even in a single-node deployment, the Cluster Coordinator is still running, on this same node, and thus its host must be resolvable.
    Hope this helps,
    Julia

  • Is it possible to access Data Domain to retrieve records?

    Hello,
    I'm using OEID 3.1.
Today i was asked if i know if its possible to access the records stored in the Data Domain to retrieve them.
Actually the question was if there is a way to access the "Database" of the Data Domain to retrieve the data from there.
Is this possible ? Is there a way to retrieve the data from the Data Domain stored?
I can only think it would be possible to retrieve the data but without the information about the columns, only a simple retrieve of information by placing a results table and do an export but maybe there is a way to do a retrieve of the data like a sql export, including information about the metadata, etc..
Regards and thanks for the help.

    Frederico,
Are you trying to do it in Clover/Endeca Integrator, a portlet in Studio or your own application?
The Endeca Server uses Web Services to serve requests for data, it's not as simple as say a REST service or writing a SQL Query (though you could make it that easy by writing a quick front-end).
I think this question is not being answered because it's unclear what the "end goal" of what you're trying to do is and why you are trying to do it.
If you're just looking to "play around", download SOAP UI and play around with that.  It's a great tool, regardless of what you are trying to do as it will automatically interrogate a WSDL file (the definition of a Web Service) and generate sample requests for you.
If you're looking to export records in Clover....you are (almost certainly) using web services already in your data loading graphs.  Check out how something like InitDataDomain uses the Manage web service as an example (or LoadAttributes uses sconfig) and then drop your own web service component on a graph, switch it over to use the Conversation service and try some things.
If you have a custom portlet or front-end looking to use Endeca Server data, Web Services support lots of (nearly all?) coding languages, platforms, etc.  It's probably outside the scope of this forum to talk about consuming Web Services in your application, since that's something that thousands of applications do and is more of a Java/C#/your language of choice question.  For example:

  • HBA controller name changes after upgrading to solaris 11.2 from solaris 11.1

we have upgraded OS on control domain from Sol 11.1 to Sol 11.2 . After upgrade controller name of HBAs and NPIV wwns  changed ( like if it is c2 prior to upgrade  , post upgrade controller name changes to  c8). Due to this we have to redo virtual disk mapping for all ldoms hosted on this machine. .  Would it be possible to preserve the HBA controller names across OS versions ? we even observed this issue while upgrading SRU of solaris 11.2 system.  We have to upgrade around 20 systems to solaris 11.2 and with this issue upgrade seems to be a tedious task. Any idea if there is any fix or workaround for it ?

Are your disks only connected to one single HBA?
We use MPXIO to MultiPath over Multiple HBAs. Controller never changed here for the MPXIO devices.

  • Upgrade to Server 2012 R2 domain controllers from 2003

I am at a loss as to what I did wrong here. Everything seems to be working fine except for one subnet (which is behind a hardware firewall).
We had two Server 2003 domain controllers and one of them was failing.  I raised the forest functional level of our old primary domain controllers to 2003.  I built the first replacement Server 2012 R2 domain controller.  Added the AD DS roles
and promoted it as a domain controller.  I let it sit for a couple days.  The FSMO roles were currently being handled by our other 2003 domain controller.  Once this had been sitting for a while (don't recall how long) I ran dcpromo on the failing
server and demoted it.  Once demoted I shut it down and pulled it out of the rack.  I then built our second 2012 R2 server and gave it the same IP as the failing one.  Installed the AD DS roles and integrated DNS as prompted by the wizard.
I then made it the operations master for Schema master, Domain naming master, PDC, RID pool manager, and Infrastructure master.  Then I ran dcpromo on the second 2003 domain controller to demote it and removed it from the network.  I then demoted
the first new controller (DC03) changed the hostname and IP to the name and IP of the second 2003 controller and promoted it again.  I'm not sure at what point things broke, but everything works from the same subnet that the domain controllers are in,
just not a second subnet that is through a hardware firewall.  I don't see anything getting blocked while watching firewall logs so I don't think the firewall is the issue.
Here is the dcdiag and ipconfig from the first controller (which has all 5 FSMO roles).

When I try to bind a machine to the domain I get an error message that says "

    (error code 0x000005B4 ERROR_TIMEOUT)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.wgd.inet

Verify that this computer is connected to the network, that these are the correct DNS server IP addresses, and that at least one of the DNS servers is running.
Please let me know if I'm missing something or if there are other things I can check.
    Thanks!
I forgot to mention that after the 2003 domain controllers were out of the environment, I raised the domain and forest functional level to 2012 R2.  All clients in the environment are Windows XP Pro or above.  The XP Pro boxes will be going away as
soon as our vendor supports their software to run on Windows 7.

We now have 2 2012 R2 DCs. The 2003 DCs are gone. Metadata from the old DCs is all cleaned up. DNS seems to be working fine in 3 out of 4 subnets. The 4th is behind a hardware firewall and I can see the IP address of the machine I am trying to bind to the
domain connecting to the two new domain controllers but the client machine that is trying to bind gives an error.  An Active Directory Domain Controller for the domain wgd.inet could not be contacted.  It seems that this is just a DNS issue for one
particular subnet (10.240.2.0/24).  This subnet is setup in AD Sites and Services\Sites\Subnets\10.240.2.0/24 (Site: Default-First-Site-Name).
When trying to do anything with nslookup from the 10.240.2.0/24 subnet it times out.  The route is there and I can watch it connect through our hardware firewall over port 53.

  • Unable to create data-domain in Endeca 3.0v

    Hi,
I have installed Endeca 3.0 server in non-SSL mode. The verification URL http://localhost:7001/endeca-server/ws/manage?wsdl is opening up. I could login into the WebLogic Administration Console and could see that the oracle.endecaserver Web application has a State of "Active" in the Administration Console. But when I try to create data-domain using through command prompt I get an error as: 'java' is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
May I know what is preventing from creating data-domain.
    Thanks,
    Anusha.R

It sounds like you are running endeca-cmd[.sh] create-dd as a user who does not have the Java JDK on its PATH.
To set this temporarily for the life of one shell you can follow the instructions in the JRockit Installation and Upgrade Guide, http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15289_01/doc.40/e15065/post_install.htm#i1066387 . To make this permanent, for Linux you'll want to add this to your shell startup files (.bash_profile) or on Windows follow the instructions to add an environment variable.

  • Upgrading SQL Server from 2008 to 2012 doesn't respect existing install / instance paths

Basic Information : Running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with MS SQL Server 2008 (version 10.0.5869), trying to upgrade to SQL Server 2012. Currently working in a cloned
VM of our production server (so I can try things and not worry about affecting our production system).
    Current server setup:
C Drive: Operating System (About 7 GB of 50 GB free)
J Drive: Program Files (About 65 GB of 78 GB free)
F Drive: SQL Databases (About 120 GB of 195 GB free)
Issue: I am trying to do an upgrade of our existing MS SQL Server 2008 install. I am using the GUI method, and choosing "Upgrade from SQL Server, 2005, SQL Server
2008, or SQL Server 2008 R2" in the Setup GUI:
All the checks & rules run with no issues. When I get to the "Instance Configuration" screen in the setup GUI, it is not respecting where my SQL Server instance is already installed (which is on the J drive). Instead it wants to install EVERYTHING
(including Instance Directory, which should be on the F drive, and the install folder, which should be on the J drive) on the C drive under C:\Program Files\ and there is no option in the GUI to change that, as it's grayed out.
I tried using a Configuration File to do the upgrade, but when I tried to specify the specific paths, it says those variables are not allowed to be used in an upgrade. If I allow the install to go through, it seems to install fine, but only leaves me with about
1.5 GB free on the OS drive (Drive C) and all of SQL Server is now installed on Drive C, which is not what I want or need.
Looking in the Registry Editor, I can see that under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft
SQL Server\MSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\ that the SqlProgramDir key
has changed from "F:\" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" and that the SQLPath and SQLDataRoot have
changed from "F:\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL". SQLBinRoot has
    also been changed "F:\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn".
It doesn't seem to want to follow where the existing Install and Instance Directories are. Am I missing something here? I've done a decent amount of research, but can't find anything that talks about this. So I'm at a loss as to what to do from here.

I haven't touched the registry. Here is the ConfigurationFile.ini from the original install (I've scrubbed sensitive info out of it) showing the paths:

  • Upgrading domain from 9.2.2 to 10.3.2

    Hi All,
I want to upgrade a domain which is created in weblogic 9.2.2 to 10.3.2. This domain contains inventory application and below custom configurations like
    i.Create File Store
    ii.Create JMS Server
    iii.Create JMS Module
    iv.Create JMS Queue
    v.Create Connection Factory
    vi.Create Data Source
vii.Set the JTA time out setting
    viii.Create Work Manager
I shutdown the 9.2.2 server and try to upgrade domain from Start---> Programs ---> BEA Products --->Tools ---> Domain Upgrade Wizard from 10.3.2. But I am getting error in Inspect Domain page.
Link to screen short of the error: http://i40.tinypic.com/1pgdqv.jpg (Didn't find any other way to share the screenshot)
I also checked with java 1.5.0_10(need for weblogic 9.2.2) and 1.6.0_18(need for weblogic 10.3.2). There are no other Managed Servers.
    Location of Weblogic 9.2.2:D:\bea
    Location of Weblogic 10.3.2:C:\fmw\bea
    Location of Domain:D:\bea\user_projects\domains\PreSuiteDomain
Can anyone tell me if I need to remove any configurations in config.xml ? Am I doning anything wrong ? Is there any preupgrade steps for 9.2.2 to 10.3.2 domain upgrade?
I am following below links for upgrading my domain.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13179_01/common/docs100/upgrade/upgrade_dom.html

Update to this interesting issue, the issue has been solved by just 2 minor updates.
    - Rename the */lib* folder to any other name, which MUST NOT be the same as the lib, lets call it */lic*
EAR/lib is specified by JEE 5 as the shared library folder. All jars in EAR/lib/ will be loaded by application classloader of WLS,
    - Update the MANIFEST.MF files, change lib/xx.jar to lic/xx.jar

  • Setup of endeca servers for single data domain / low traffic

    Hello,
We are planning to have a single data domain that will be rebuilt nightly using a scheduled Integrator run. It will be used by, at most, 20 people at a time (more like 1-2 at a time) via EQL calls through one web app server within the same firewall/secret zone.
One or two people may also interact with the domain via Studio. I have 3 servers available. The idea presented so far is to install Endeca Server on servers 1,2, and 3, and to put Studio on 1 and 2, and Integrator on 2 and 3.  What is the best configuration to go with as far as clustering and load balancing between the web app server and the three Endeca servers.
Can the EQL queries be simply directed to the server with the leader node. Do I really need a load balancer between the web app server and endeca servers ( like this proposed config.)?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Disclaimer: I don't work for Oracle.
I simply don't think this is true.
    1) Oracle has never said this on paper, I think it's something that someone said off-hand once and it seems to have spread like wildfire.  Everytime I hear that statement from a partner or a prospect, they can never tell me the origin.  It's a popular myth, maybe because it's a round number?
    2) Quite simply, in our experience, the number of records is not the right metric in most use cases due to the columnar nature of OEID.  The number of assignments is much more of a driving factor than the number of records.
    3) Also, given that this rumor has been going around for at least 2 years, even if it were true then, it's not true any longer if you think about how much the software has changed since 2.2.
If you have enough bare-metal hardware (memory, I/O, CPU), I don't foresee 100 million records as a barrier at all.  If these 100 million records are each 5000 attributes wide, then you're going to need more hardware than say 100 million records with 15 attributes.

  • How to build data model in Endeca Server?

After completed the Quick Start Guide, I'm still confused about Endeca components. From the view of BI, there should be a data model built in Endeca Server, and a tool to develop and administrate the data model. Which component acts as this role, CloverETL or something else?

We've created a "Getting Started with Endeca Information Discovery" screencast series that should provide you answers to these questions.
You can find the full outline on our OTN page: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/endeca/learnmore/index.html
And, the screencasts are on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/OracleEID
    Thanks,
